An Okita Special: A Bittersweet Moment

The incredible fragrance radiating from her fresh lunch reached his nostrils. Unable to hold back, he grabbed his chopsticks and stole a bite.

Wow.

"A lucky little princess, aren't you?" he chuckled before taking more.

She stirred in her sleep when his arm accidentally brushed against her cheek.

"Oops, sorry 'bout that."

He made sure she was asleep again before he shoved the piece of chicken in his mouth.

It was currently just the two of them on the roof right now. Yamazaki had his infirmary duties to attend to, and Saitou was busy reporting a group of delinquents to the principal. Heisuke had detention with Hijikata-sensei…surprise, surprise. Okita himself had fallen victim to detention with Mr. Satan many times before. Not fun.

Chizuru must have slept very late last night for she had fallen asleep almost immediately after setting her lunch box down. Though she was originally using the wall for support, Okita had gently repositioned her so her head laid on his lap instead. It'd be much more comfortable than the cement surface.

Almost absentmindedly, he combed his fingers through her soft tresses, the slight breeze aiding him along the way. She hummed sweetly at this.

It was tantalizing. She was right here, sleeping on his lap, scent invading his senses. Yet she was not his. He could not do more than this. She viewed him as a friend and brushed off his advances as jokes, writing it off as a consequence of his flirtatious ways. She was only partially right.

He never found himself to be the type with bittersweet thoughts like this, but he's never really seen a girl quite like Chizuru before. Unique girls called for unique situations, he reasoned. For Chizuru, he would make this exception.

He knew after she woke up, he would have to let her go. But she would be back again later. He sees her around the school after all, and she frequently eats lunch with them now anyway. He would always be there for her too, if she were to ever turn around and look for someone else. Even if she needed some comforting, or assistance in any way, he would be there in a heartbeat.

They were friends after all.

In this moment however, he'd like to think otherwise. Right now, in the absence of others, she was all his.

And that would be sufficient for now.
