Brian had to move fast as he climbed over the driver's seat, cutting the seat belt with his knife from his pocket. Roxy's body fell forward as he gently moved her from the seat. He could smell the gasoline burning. He knew he didn't have much time before the car would blow. He moved her from the car, cradling her in his arms. "I got you." He whispered. He could feel the heat of the burning car as he turned and began to run towards the crowd that had gathered. He could hear the sirens in the distance as he made eye contact with Leon who was being held back by Hector. His face was stained from the tears that were continuing to fall down. Brian's foot hit the grass just as the car blew up, knocking him forward. His knees hit the ground as Leon caught Roxy in his arms. "Watch her head." Brian told him as he patted Hectors arm. "Jackson!" Brian yelled. He spotted Dom on the ground, shirtless. His shirt was on Jackson's head, covering the cut that was oozing blood. It seeped through the shirt as Brian sighed. This was a disaster.

"Brian!" Leon yelled. "She doesn't have a pulse." Brian hit his knees again as he unbuttoned Roxy's shirt. Her stomach was turning blue. He shook his head as he looked up at Leon.

"She's bleeding internally." He told him. Leon began shaking his head as he leaned down and kissed her lightly on the head. "Leon, I need you do something for me. I am going to help her, but I need you to trust me."

Leon nodded his head. Brian knew he was afraid to speak. "I need a pen. I need someone to give me a pen!" He shouted into the crowd. The crowd had calmed down some since most of the people there were underage and they knew street racing was illegal. Everyone scattered with the exception of some curious bystanders. A pen was given to Brian as he pulled the ink out and looked up at Leon. "I need you to hold her head up like this." He tilted her head back. "I am going to put a hole in her neck right here. I can't do CPR, she is too badly bruised. It will not hurt her. But she needs to be able to breathe and I fear that her lungs might have collapsed."

"I got it." Leon replied. "Go ahead." It was the first time Leon spoke to him. Brian nodded his head, using the knife he used to cut the seat belt, he made a tiny hole in her throat. He quickly stuck his finger in the hole to keep it from closing before sticking the hollowed pen into it.

"I need someone to tell me if my son is okay!" He put his fingers on the side of Roxy's throat and felt for a pulse. "There is one, okay. It's slow but it's there." Leon nodded his head as Brian's head shot up to the sound of ambulances pulling up. He moved out of the way as the EMT's rushed over to them.

His entire body was on fire as the sweat poured down his face. He was panicking. He rubbed his hands down his pants as his breathing quickened and his eyes before blurry. The tears flooded down his face as he covered his mouth to stop the cry from escaping. "Brian…" Dom whispered softly putting his hand on his shoulder. Brian nodded his head as he tried to get a hold of himself. He squeezed his eyes shut as the pain began to take over. He blamed himself. He should have been honest from the beginning. None of this would have happened. He bowed his head as Dom kept his hand on his shoulder, waiting for Brian to get control of himself. Brian wiped his face as he nodded his head. "Jackson was awake, Brian. He woke up. His leg is broken and his face is badly bruised but other than he should be fine."

"Good." Brian whispered. He shook his head. "Roxy wasn't doing too good, man. I don't know…"

"We need to go. Leon went with Roxy but we need to go."

"Okay."

"Are you okay?" Brian paused for a second before nodding his head. "Okay, let's go."

The ride to the hospital was silent as Brian stared out the window. There wasn't much to say. His heart ached for his son and his best friend. He couldn't help but wonder if he could have stopped all of this. "She's going to make it. She has to." Dom interrupted his thoughts.

"I just—" Brian took a deep breath. "I thought I was doing the right thing by not telling him right away."

"We all made mistakes, Brian."

"I just wanted to protect him."

Dom was silent. Brian returned to looking out the window. His mind wondered to the first time that him and Dom met. He wanted to get into the racing scene so bad that he gave up his car. It wasn't even his car. The department had gotten him that car. He gave the car up before it was blown up by Tran and his goons. He had valued Dom. He took advantage of his friendship and tried to bring him down. But it only brought him down. He lost everything. Jesse. Mia. He shook his head. "I'm sorry, Dom. I know I have probably said it multiple times but I mean it…I am so sorry for everything that I did back in two thousand one. I was selfish. I wanted something so bad that I was willing to give you away…give Mia away. We lost a lot that year. I know you did too. And I am sorry."

"It seems like a lifetime ago, Brian. I know that you feel like what you did was right…"

"It wasn't."

"Jackson is lucky to have you, Brian. He is very lucky."

"Thank you." Brian replied. The tears filled up his eyes again as he shook his head. He could see the hospital ahead as he wiped his face and straightened up. He had to be prepared for whatever was going to be thrown at him.

They both rushed through sliding glass doors in the emergency room that was already filled with multiple people. Brian's head was spinning as he looked around. Dom hit his arm as Leon exited the doors. He looked broken. "What's going on?" Dom asked rushing over to him. "Are they alright?"

"Jackson has a fractured skull. They are doing x rays on him right now."

"Rox?" Dom asked. Leon bowed his head as the sobs escaped his mouth.

"They don't know, man. They won't tell me a lot just that she is going to need surgery." Brian put his hands on top of his and turned around. The pain was weighing down on him as he squeezed his eyes shut. "Brian got her to breathe but…the impact of the wall was just too much on her little body."

"Leon, sit down brother. We got this." Dom whispered to him. "Brian, come with me." Brian nodded his head as they walked through the doors.

"Excuse me, can I help you?" A nurse stopped them.

"Yeah." Dom replied. "There was a boy and a girl who were just brought in here from a street race. Can you tell us how they are doing?"

"They are both in surgery right now. That is all I can tell you. If you will wait outside in the waiting area and I will alert you when they are ready." She ushered them back out as Brian slowly walked over to the wall Leon was leaning against and slid down to the floor. Dom stood in front of them not knowing what to say or what to do. Life wasn't supposed to be this hard. Not for those two anyway. It was supposed to be easy.

Hours seemed to have past as Brian became impatient. He had moved from the floor to the window. The crowd that was first there when they arrived seemed to have disappeared leaving only them in there alone. He sighed as he ran his hand over his head when he heard the doors open. Mia came rushing in, wrapping his arms around Leon's neck. Brian's throat was in his stomach as he looked back out the window. "Brian…" She whispered but he didn't turn to her. His heart ached again. He could feel the emptiness rising from his stomach to his throat as a cry escaped his mouth. "No." She wrapped her arms around his waist as he dug his head into her shoulder. "Everything is going to be okay, Brian. It has to be."

"I just keep thinking…I should have told him. He should have known the first time that I met him. We wouldn't be here right now."

"We all did what we thought was best for him, Brian. This isn't your fault."

Brian shook his head. "I just…I just got him back." The tears flooded down his face as she shook her head. The doors opened with two doctors walking out. Brian's heart stopped beating at that moment.

"O'Connor?" One spoke first. He removed his hat from his head and sighed. "With the amount of speed Jackson was going when he hit the wall, it's a miracle that I can even tell you this right now. But he is alright. He is in for a long road of recovery but he is alright. His leg is broken. He fractured his skull but it did not cause any brain damage. He broke many bones in his face but will be easily fixed with surgery. We were able to repair his liver but had to take out his spleen. Like I said…the road is going to be long but he is going to be alright."

"Thank you." Brian whispered shaking the man's hand. The relief flooded over him as he wrapped his arms around Mia's body and began to laugh. "He's alright."

"And Roxy?" Leon stood up. Brian let go of Mia and looked up at the doctors. "Please…"

"Your daughter…" He stopped. "Roxy was thrown against the passenger's side door multiple times. Her head took most of the damage. She had bleeding in the brain. We put her into a medically induced coma…just until she is stable enough for another surgery. The brain is swelling. We are trying our hardest to keep it from swelling too much…" Leon shook his head. "Mr. Miller, there is extensive damaged…We are doing everything in our power to help her."

"Is she going to die?" Leon asked. His voice was above a whisper as Brian turned away.

"I cannot tell you that right now."

"But it doesn't look good?"

Dom walked out of the hospital as Brian's knees gave out on him. He hit the floor as Mia knelt down next to him. "It is touch and go. It's a waiting game right now. We need Roxy to stabilize before we begin surgery again."

"Thank you." Mia whispered. She grabbed a hold of Leon's hand and squeezed it. "She's going to be alright, Leon."

"She's all that I have left." Leon replied softly. "I can see her…" The tears fell down his face. "She's smiling with her long brown hair blowing in the wind. It was the first time I took her driving. She was so happy. I can still hear her laugh. I can still…" He covered her face with his hands as the sobs escaped his mouth. Was this it? Was this how it all was going to end?
