A/N: One-sided NanoCoffee~ Nano catches Lalna giving her a strange look. The one everyone gives her. (This is based off of a song by a group called 'Big Bang'. The song is called 'Monster'. Some of the words are used too)
"Lalna...why are you looking at me like that?" Nano queried, her gaze instantly meeting with her teacher's when she moved away from the computer. She was holding some complex machine...thingy Lalna had asked her to build. Honestly, she didn't really know what it was anyway. "It looks like I've done something wrong. ...Again." She sighed, putting the thing back into the computer. Lalna blinked, glancing away.
"N-No...it's..."
"Lalna?" Her questioning tone caught Lalna's attention, their gazes meeting for a second. "...No. You're...not..." She took one step towards the scientist who, to both their surprises, took a step back. "L-Lalna...?" Reaching a hand out, she could see the taint clearly on her skin. "...!" Pieces began to fall into place, recognising the look more clearly in his eyes. It was the look everyone gave her. "...You...think...I'm...a monster." Lalna shook his head, but made no move towards her.
"No! That's a lie! I-I don't...Nano..." He trailed off, watched the female turn away. Inside, Lalna couldn't deny himself. Up until now he was able to keep it locked away, but with all the events of Lalnable and being taken...something snapped in his mind, no longer able to deny the truth in front of him. She stared blankly at her own hand, before stumbling across the room. "W-Where are you going?" The fluxed girl didn't reply, finding the nearest reflective surface she could. The first one that came to mind was the water just outside Panda Labs. It seemed like years before she was there, tripping and falling face-first into the shallow water. Nano knelt in the water, waiting for it to settle. When it did, she didn't recognise what looked back at her. Her eye, blank and white – completely enveloped in taint. It had spread even further on her face and torso than the last time she saw it, even completely taking her arms. Coherent thoughts were shattered in that second, sounds of nature becoming muffled. A million things began to run through Nano's mind, nothing really staying for more than a few moments. "Nano?" The girl flinched, being brought back to reality. She spun around in the shallow water, the scientist standing a few inches or so from the water's edge getting slightly sprayed by the droplets.
"Y-You... I...I trusted you." She muttered. "I LOVED you. But...you're just like everyone else..." She refused to look him in the eye, instead focusing on the ripples at the surface of the water. "I'm not a monster." Nano's gaze fiercely snapped to Lalna's. "I'm NOT a monster. Please..." She whispered. "Lalna..." She slightly moved closer, Lalna looking away guiltily.
"I'm sorry, Nano. I...can't do anything else." The words barely registered in the girl's mind. "You...it's too far gone. I can't help you." He stole a glance at the girl, regretting it immediately. The pain and sorrow in her remaining eye was heartbreaking. The man she trusted with her life, who she had loved forever...abandoning her? Words then began to pour from her mouth, not even stopping to think through her thoughts.
"But, I love you. I trust you. Lalna, I-you-we're friends, aren't we? You promised you'd look after me. You said you wouldn't become like them. The way they look at me, you're the exact same now! I...I..." Her face fell into her hands, the tears flowing freely from her eyes. Usually she would've expected the scientist's comforting words and touches, but now she knew they would never come. He wasn't the Lalna she knew anymore. Just a shadow, a shell of himself. "I...need...you." When Nano finally pealed her hands from her face, her lover was gone. No trace. She curled up in the water, not caring that she was soaked through. "...I think I'm sick." She whispered to no one; not even the fish that swam in the water came close to her. Even nature itself knew what she was.
A freak.
A monster.
Not even her old partner could see her for anything other than that now.
