Third Person POV
Annabeth was freaking out. The naiads already checked the lake. There were about 12 search parties out there already looking for him. She remembered last night clearly.
The stars were bright in the sky, and the fire's flames rose high into the air, a bright orange. Everything was perfect. Annabeth noticed her eyelids beginning to droop, and told Percy that she couldn't stay awake any longer. Then she noticed that there were dark circles under his eyes as well. He agreed with her, and together they walked back to Annabeth's cabin. As they stood just outside the doorway to Cabin Number Six, Percy leaned in and kissed Annabeth softly on the cheek, smelling like smoke. "Love you wisegirl." He spoke softly, afraid to penetrate the silence. "See you in the morning." With that, he flashed Annabeth a smile, and disappeared into the dark.
Percy hadn't shown up to breakfast, which was unusual, to say the least. That kid never missed a meal. But, as paranoid as she was, her siblings forced her to eat, telling her she could check up on him after. So, immediately after scarfing down her eggs and hash, she darted down to Cabin Number Three, the smell of salt becoming overpowering. As she stepped into the cabin, Annabeth unconsciously glanced at the neatly tucked in bed on the far end of the room, where Tyson slept before he began to make his stay at Poseidon's palace.
Although that was normal, when she checked where Percy usually slept, Annabeth found that his covers were completely tangled and the lamp next to the bed was on the floor, the bulb smashed. The covers being tangled was a usual occurrence for Percy but the lamp on the floor- that was just unsettling. So Annabeth set out to find him.
By the fourth hour of searching, Annabeth had gotten about half the camp to help her search for Percy. Annabeth had rushed to tell Chiron and he confessed to not having heard from the gods in a couple weeks. After being granted permission to organize search parties, that's exactly what she did. Annabeth had Thalia and the Hunters of Artemis scouring the countryside for him, Grover was attempting to use his empathy link to find Percy, but it didn't seem to be working. Camp Half-Blood had sent out some of its finest to find the son of the sea god, but not a single lead could be found, even with both Tyson and Mrs. O'Leary on the case.
At 11 o'clock at night, Malcolm decided that enough was enough. He turned to his sister, who was still pouring over maps of New York and the surrounding areas. They were the only two still awake in the Athena Cabin, as the rest of their siblings had gone to bed around 9:45. The only light they had to see by was a candle Annabeth had by her bed, and the light from Daedalus's laptop that Annabeth still had open.
Malcolm strode over to where his sister was working and lightly put his hand on her shoulder. "Annabeth," he said, speaking quietly. "It's time for bed. You can work on this in the morning." Annabeth's head jerked up quickly, fixing Malcolm with a glare. "All the time that I spend sleeping, Percy spends who knows where doing who knows what. I have to find him." A strand of blonde hair fell in front of her trademark grey eyes.
Malcolm sighed tiredly and pinched the bridge of his nose irritably. He rose to his full height of 5'6. "Annabeth Chase. I am your older brother* and I will not be able to sleep without knowing that you are sleeping." Malcolm switched to an authoritative tone, although somewhat softer. "Bed. Now."
Annabeth huffed in annoyance and crossed her arms, but glared defiantly in Malcolm's eyes and said, "One day, you won't be able to control me anymore. Tomorrow, I am searching for Percy, and I won't stop til I find him."
Madeline POV
Gods, was it hectic here. When I found out I would be coming to a roman training camp, I expected order, discipline and authority. What I got was 300 kids running around with half their armour on, searching for their MIA praetor. When I had first heard the rumors, I thought, why don't they just iris-message him? It'd be much easier that way. But then I realized that they probably didn't even have iris-messaging, and that it was more of a greek thing.
My second thought was, oh gee, a quest to find the lost praetor! How fun! That thought remained in my mind, because although it has been suggested, Reyna had neither accepted nor denied the request.
During the first day of Jason's disappearance, the rumors were strictly oh my gods where is he? By the end of the second, however, the rumors had spread to didn't that new girl show up the day he went missing? There was not much I could do about the rumors anyway, so I just let them be. No harm done, right? It's not like the senate could prosecute me of pure speculation.
Halfway through the first month, there were a limited number of people who would even talk to me anymore, the suspicion had gotten so thick. I could count on one hand the number of people who were actually humane.
Number one on my list was a girl named Hazel Levesque. She has dark skin and coffee colored hair that bounces in natural curls. Not many people like her, either. She's a daughter of Pluto, so her company is not very welcome in most places. Although there were a few vicious rumors about her, I didn't believe any of them. Innocent until proven guilty, and so far Hazel was innocent. Hazel is so sweet and caring it's hard to believe anybody could come up with the stories that were circulating.
By an extension of having Hazel as a friend, I also had Frank. Frank Zhang reminded me of a big teddy bear. He was big and muscular, but he hadn't grown out of the baby fat on his face yet. Seeing how stocky he was, you would think he would be a swordsman, but alas, he was an archer. An excellent one at that. Frank hardly ever missed. Although he wasn't claimed yet, I could tell that he wasn't a child of Apollo. Frank was just hoping that he might get claimed by Apollo on his 16th birthday, and I wasn't going to be the one to burst his bubble. I knew he was still going through a hard time after his mom died, and I tried to provide what meager comfort I could.
Hazel and Frank tried to deny it, but I knew that they both had the biggest crushes I had ever seen on each other. I told them one day, while they were profusely arguing that they did not like each other, that the truth hurt, but that it was better to accept a painful truth than to wait for a blissful lie to fall over and collapse in your face.
Yeah, ignorance was bliss.
While it lasted.
