It had been about twenty minutes since the Pokémon battle between Alex and Christie was interrupted by Team Rocket and Christie was still waiting for her Pokémon to be healed, Alex's team on the other hand was fully healed and she was on her way out of the Pokémon Center.
"Well, guys, it's been a blast but like I said, I hate being in one place for too long." Alex commented as she slung her backpack over her shoulder, whilst the rest of her team was in their Pokeballs her Blitzle was walking beside her as was Christie's Eevee which was, at the moment, the only Pokémon in Christie's team that didn't need to be healed.
"Well we still have to wait for Nurse Joy to give my team the all clear so I don't think we'll be leaving for a while." Christie responded as she glanced over at Nurse Joy. "Are you going to be okay if Team Rocket attacks you again?"
"I'll be fine I mean they attacked me in the middle of a battle where the only Pokémon that was capable of fighting was Blitzle." Alex responded with a confident grin on her face. "If they try that shit again I'll be ready!"
"Just be careful Alex, I've dealt with Bill and Cassidy before and they rarely play by the rules." Steve responded with a frown. "I could've sworn I heard him correcting me about his name just now." Steve thought before shaking his head. "Be ready for anything."
"Thanks for the concern Steve but my team's getting stronger every day, I'll be ready for them." Alex responded with a nod. "Hell Christie, by the time we have our rematch half my team might evolve!"
"I hope so, there's still a lot of Pokémon I haven't seen yet." Christie responded with a grin before Alex turned her attention to Dalton.
"See you around Dalty!" Alex added before giving Dalton a quick peck on the cheek and running off, Dalton blushed a bit before noticing the looks he was getting from the others.
"That girl's had a crush on me since she entered puberty I'm just not sure if I'm ready to make that big a leap." Dalton responded with a frown. "I mean she's hot, don't get me wrong…."
"Dalton, she's still in earshot." Steve pointed out and Dalton winced before noticing the grin on Alex's face had grown even wider, Dalton waited until she was gone before continuing.
"But I've known her since we were kids, it would just be weird, that's all I'm saying." Dalton added and the others shook their heads. "Don't tell me, you're about to ask about the Dalty nickname?"
"Would've asked you earlier but then the Pokémon Battle between Alex and Christie happened and then Team Rocket attacked so yeah, we got a bit distracted." Steve responded and Christie shook her head in response.
"Thanks you the reminder." Christie grumbled and Steve sweat-dropped. "The only thing that's saving you from getting as earful from me is the fact that your Skarmory was ultimately responsible for saving my Pokémon."
"And Alex's Pokémon as well, don't forget about that." Ann pointed out and Christie nodded.
"Speaking of Alex…." Steve trailed off before turning to Dalton. "So what's the story there?"
"Growing up we had cute little nicknames for each other, you've already heard mine but hers was Alie." Dalton responded with a frown. "I pretty much stopped calling her that once I turned eighteen but Alex….well she never really had a chance to be a kid growing up."
"That was because of all the hospital stays, right?" Christie asked and Dalton nodded. "I didn't ask because I didn't want her to feel any more awkward than she already was but what was wrong with her?"
"I never found out now that you mention it." Dalton admitted with a frown. "I don't think Alex knew either, all she knew was that she was being kept in hospital rooms whilst most other kids were out playing or getting ready to start their journey and like she said, the last part really hit her hard."
"Honestly I don't blame her." Christie admitted as she shook her head. "I'll be the first to admit that I got my late start due to a combination of bad luck and laziness but Alex? She got her bad start due to forces beyond her control or understanding."
"Yeah, Alex said that one day she'll sum up the courage to ask her parents what she was ill with but right now she's just happy to be finally on her journey." Dalton responded with a frown. "Speaking of Pokémon, shouldn't your team be healed up by now Christie?" Dalton asked and Christie looked up to see Nurse Joy calling her over and Christie walked up to the counter.
"Your Pokémon are fully healed Christie." Nurse Joy said as she handed over Christie's Pokeballs which she attached to her belt buckle. "Sorry it took so long, I needed to make sure that the Pokémon who assisted in their rescue were all right."
"Well I know my Skarmory didn't take that much damage." Steve commented and Ann and Dalton nodded in agreement in regards to their own Pokémon. "But what about the others, are they okay?"
"They were all given a clean bill of health but I think they would've been in worse shape if they had attacked the Helicopter itself and not the crate that held the stolen Pokémon." Nurse Joy responded and Christie nodded. "So where are you off to now?"
"Technically we're going to Cerulean City to challenge the gym but before that we're stopping at Terracotta Town." Steve responded after he checked the map. "No idea when we'll get there but given the distance we'll have to travel to get there we'll probably set up camp for the night."
"Another night of camping under the stars, that's just great." Christie grumbled under her breath. "Can we at least try to avoid any lakes so that I don't have to worry about falling in? Or running into another giant Gyarados?"
"We'll set up camp where it's easiest to set up for tents plus cooking equipment for meals." Steve responded with a frown. "If there's a lake nearby you'll just have to avoid falling in."
"Well, given my track record of getting wet around you that's going to be easier said than done." Christie responded with a grin…..which quickly disappeared when she heard other trainers snickering including Ann and Dalton. "Getting my clothes wet, MY CLOTHES!"
"How about we change the subject before Christie digs herself any deeper?" Dalton offered as he tried not to laugh. "Well I don't know about you guys but I'm ready to get going."
"Yeah, same here, after the past couple of days we've spent here I could use a change of scenery." Christie commented with a frown. "Besides, all our stuff's packed up so I don't really see a reason for us to stay."
"That's a good point." Steve nodded in agreement before the four trainers left.
*meanwhile*
"Do you realize how much money went into the construction of that helicopter?" Butch and Cassidy's boss said over the phone to Butch who winced, he was with Cassidy in the car that was now repaired and he was currently getting an earful from his boss. "I know it seems like I'm made of money but I'm not!"
"Understood sir but we did not anticipate that many trainers attacking it at once with their Pokémon just because we interrupted a Pokémon Battle." Butch responded with a frown as the grunt continued to drive. "Besides, most of the damage was to the crate and vacuum."
"That was destroyed the moment they found out about the Support Beam holding it in place." The boss responded and Butch frowned. "Listen Chris, you are very lucky that the helicopter escaped that battle with minor damage but the repairs will still come out of yours and Cassidy's salaries."
"The name's Butch, not Chris!" Butch responded and Cassidy face-palmed. "Look, we're on the way to the route between Fuchsia City and Saffron City as we speak! Once we're there we'll strengthen our teams with new Pokémon and training up the Pokémon already in our teams, the next time we attack those brats we'll be ready!"
"Make sure you do." The boss responded before hanging up, Butch angrily slammed the phone down and growled.
"How long until we get there grunt?" Butch asked and the grunt turned to him.
"We'll be there in a few hours, we'll have to stop for fuel but fortunately there is a Team Rocket Safehouse along the way." The grunt responded and the two senior Team Rocket members nodded.
"Good, let's try not to get into any more trouble." Cassidy responded as the car drove off.
*later on*
The gang had stopped to set up a campsite on the way to Terracotta Town as it was getting late and they hadn't eaten dinner yet, the area that they had chosen was heavily forested but with enough room for them to spread out the campsite a bit to make it look a bit more open and like their last campsite this one was beside a lake where Christie and Steve were currently fishing.
"Any bites Christie?" Steve asked with a bored sigh and Christie shook her head.
"Nope, there have been no bites on my fishing rod." Christie responded with a sigh as she rested her cheek on her hand. "All though there is one thing I'm surprised we haven't done since we started the journey."
"What's that?" Steve asked and Christie pointed to the lake. "Go for a swim?"
"Yeah, I mean it's a bit late for it now and the last lake we set up camp beside was inhabited by that Gyarados but I am a strong swimmer and mom did pack my bikini for a reason." Christie responded before she resumed fishing, after Steve said nothing for a few minutes she looked up and realized that Steve was staring at her. "Steve, soccer may have been my main sport in school but it was hardly my only one."
"Pretty sure it has less to do with that and more to do with the mental image of you in a bikini." Dalton pointed out as he approached them and Christie rolled her eyes. "Still, a swim doesn't sound too bad and your Pokémon can join in too."
"Err, yeah, what he said." Steve nodded in agreement as he wiped some drool from his mouth. "I'm surprised that you're able to swim with that leg of yours anyway."
"Actually I took up swimming at the suggestion of my soccer coach, she thought that it might help me regain the strength in my leg and allow me to continue playing soccer even after my leg injury." Christie responded before sighing sadly. "It helped but it was a slow process, the docs thought my leg was dislocated at first when I arrived at the hospital, that's how bad the break was, by the time I got my leg back up to half strength the soccer season had started again and I didn't want to drag my team down because of my injury."
"So you dropped out?" Steve asked and Christie nodded. "How did your team take it?"
"Personally they understood I broke it in a bike race against two of the other girls in my soccer team, professionally? Well, remember when I said that I led my team to win the championships before I broke my leg?" Christie asked and Steve nodded. "My drop out was at the last minute and they couldn't find a replacement in time so they had to drop out of the tournament."
"Ouch, I'm surprised that they still talk to you after that." Steve commented and Christie shook her head.
"They were mad at first because they were hoping to win it for the second year in a row but they got over it." Christie responded with a sad sigh. "There were a couple of them who took it really seriously but the girls I was racing against and the coach straightened them out pretty quickly."
"Well it's not like you had a choice anyway." Steve commented and Christie nodded in agreement. "Anyway Dalton, did you come over just to tease me about whether or not I have a crush on Christie….."
"Please Steve, it's not like you've been subtle about it." Christie pointed out with a smirk and Steve cleared his throat.
"Good point." Steve admitted before continuing. "Or is there something you want?"
"Well the cooking equipment that we brought in Karratas is working great, dinner should be done soon." Dalton responded as he looked up to where they were keeping the equipment and saw Ann keeping an eye on the food. "Just a reminder, how do you like your steaks?"
"I like them Medium Rare." Christie responded and Steve gagged. "What? Scared of a little blood Steve?"
"No, I'm just scared of getting ill from said blood which is why I like mine Well Done." Steve responded and Christie shook her head.
"Mom told me that the only way you can actually get ill like that is if the steak's not properly prepared." Christie responded as she grinned at Steve. "And considering that my mom is almost as good at cooking as she was at being a Pokémon Trainer I trust her word on that subject."
"I'm not saying that your mom's a bad cook but I'll just go with my gut instinct." Steve said as he rolled his eyes, before Christie could respond she felt a tug at her fishing rod. "Ah, you finally have something!"
"And as soon as I can real this thing in I'll see if it's a Pokémon and catch it!" Christie responded as she started reeling in the fishing line, eventually the Pokémon on the other line was revealed to be a Krabby. "All right, another water type for my collection and one that actually looks powerful!" Christie said with a grin before getting her Pokedex out.
"Krabby, the River Crab Pokémon, if it senses danger approaching, it cloaks itself with bubbles from its mouth so it will look bigger." The Pokedex's entry read out and Christie lowered the Pokedex…..only to be hit in the face with a Water Gun by the Krabby knocking her over in the process who then used it's pincers to cut her fishing line and disappeared underwater.
"Oh no you don't, get back here!" Christie yelled at the lake before retrieving what remained of the fishing line from the lake and she held out her outstretched palm to the boys. "Dalton Steve let me hold your rods so that we can catch some crabs!" Christie demanded only to blush furiously once she heard the sentence not helped by Steve and Dalton laughing their asses off. "Unless you want to start cooking your dicks on the BBQ stop laughing!"
"Sorry Chris but you make it to easy sometimes!" Dalton said in between fits of laughter and Christie glared at him. "Just be glad that your mom wasn't around to hear that sentence."
"Yeah, knowing her she'd probably be laughing with you!" Christie said with an annoyed sigh. "Seriously though, is there a place where I can get fishing rods repaired?"
"I didn't see any in Pewter City of Karratas and I had a good look around both places." Steve responded as he shook his head. "You might be able to buy a new one when we reach either Terracotta or Cerulean City but until then you'll have to make do with holding our rods…damn it, now you have me doing it!"
"Doesn't matter, I'll get that Krabby one way or another!" Christie said determidly before looking out towards the lake. "Is that lake going to be safe to swim in tomorrow? I mean we know that there's a Krabby inhabiting it now."
"Should be, I mean Krabby are pretty good Pokémon but they are hardly at Gyarados's level and I'm pretty sure that the closest we'll get to one in this lake is Magikarp." Steve responded with a nod and Christie sighed in relief before she was handed a towel by Steve. "Here, you got a bit of water on your face."
"Yeah, I noticed." Christie responded as she rolled her eyes and used the towel to dry herself. "Even so if we're going for a swim tomorrow why not let our Pokémon out whist we're at it? I don't think our teams have had much of a chance to relax over the past couple of days."
"Can your team even swim?" Steve asked as he rubbed the back of his head nervously. "Pidgey and Spearrow probably won't be interested since they are flying types but besides Magikarp you don't have any Water Types."
"And that's why I'm trying to catch that Krabby!" Christie responded with a grunt. "Hell I'll battle it underwater if I have too." Christie added as she went to remove her top.
"Err, Christie, as appealing as the thought of you getting undressed in front of us is I have to point out that even if you can get a Pokeball to work underwater I don't think you'll be able to hold your breath long enough to battle that Krabby." Dalton pointed out and Christie stopped in her tracks when she realized that he had a point.
"You just had to ruin my fun again, didn't you?" Steve asked and Dalton rolled his eyes.
"I'm sure you would've enjoyed staring at her half naked ass whilst she stretched her body to get warmed up BUT would you want to explain to the hospital and her mom if she drowns that you did nothing whilst she risked her life because of one Pokémon?" Dalton asked and Steve frowned. "And for that matter does anyone here know CPR?"
"Err, no." Steve winced in response. "Then again I still have Zach's business card and since he passed through Karratas before we did he can't be that far away."
"Steve, if I had to choose between dying or that pervert staring at my half naked, unconscious body I'd have to think about it first, just saying." Christie responded as a large sweat-drop rolled down her head. "Besides, just because he's a medical student doesn't mean he's trained in CPR."
"Christie, he graduated remember? I'm pretty sure he was taught it at some point." Steve pointed out and Christie frowned once she realized his point. "Anyway Dalton, shouldn't you be checking on the steaks?"
"I was about to go check on them actually." Dalton responded before he walked off towards were the gang had set up the BBQ to check on the steaks. "Okay, they should be finished soon."
"I hope so, I'm starving." Christie responded with a grin on her face before stretching her arms and letting out a yawn. "Think we'll have to worry about Team Rocket for a while?"
"Don't think we will, that helicopter couldn't have been cheap and the Pokémon did do a lot of damage to it." Steve responded as he shook his head. "Besides you saw the state of their teams when they attacked us at the Pewter City Gym so if anything they'll be looking to strengthen their teams before they attack us directly again."
"That's true and it at least explains why they attacked me and Alex with that helicopter." Christie responded with a nod before the smell of meat caught their attention. "Is that steak I smell?"
"You got it." Dalton responded as he walked over to them with two plates in his hands. "One Medium Rare steak for Christie…." Dalton trailed off as he handed her the plate. "And one Well-Done steak for Steve, just don't complain about it being chewy!" Dalton added before giving him the plate. "We decided to eat by the campfire, want to join us?"
"Yeah, sounds good." Christie nodded in response as did Steve before the two teens stood up and walked over to the campfire.
*meanwhile*
"That Eevee I caught will make for a good addition to my team!" Karen thought with a satisfied smirk on her face as she walked up to the Pokémon Center, she was a bit ahead of the gang at the moment as she was currently near the outskirts of Terracotta Town, she would've continued on to the town but she had noticed the Pokémon Center and decided to stop there first. "Just need to swap out Sandlash for the Eevee and from there I'll aim to evolve it into either Espeon or Umbreon." Karen thought as she entered the center and found it mostly deserted. "Hello? Is there anyone here?"
"Nurse Joy is currently tending to my team but besides her we're alone beautiful." Zach's voice rang out and Karen looked up seeing Zach sitting down at a booth and enjoying a drink "Why don't you join me miss?"
"Karen and I don't think so." Karen said as she shook her head. "My Pokémon team doesn't need a check-up I'm just here to swap out one of my team members for an Eevee I caught." Karen added before noticing that Zach's Sylveon was out of her ball and sitting beside her trainer. "I'm guessing that Sylveon's yours?"
"Yes, she is, the rest of my team got its backend handed to it by a skilled trainer and it took my Sylveon here to beat the rest of his team." Zach responded as he took a sip from his drink. "As you can probably guess Sylveon is my best Pokémon."
"My best Pokémon is a lot cooler than that." Karen responded before letting her Chesnaught out of his Pokeball. "But then again I'm from Kalos and I'm very familiar with Sylveon's moveset."
"Yes, I assumed that you were from Kalos based on the fact that Chesnaught is the evolved form of that region's Grass Starter, Chespin, correct?" Zach asked and Karen nodded. "In fact I met a male trainer that had the evolved form of Fennekin and a Litleo in his party the other day."
"He wasn't tall and a red-head was he?" Karen asked as her eyes narrowed and Zach nodded. "Was his name Steve?"
"Yes, he was traveling with his sister Ann, a girl called Christie who I can only assume is Steve's fuck buddy and a guy called Dalton." Zach responded and this caught Karen's attention. "You know them?"
"Know them? Steve's my ex!" Karen responded with a smirk and Zach raised an eyebrow at her. "Did you battle them?"
"No, it almost came to that when Steve thought that I was using my position as a medical student treating Christie's ankle injury to check her out." Zach responded as he took a sip. "But I did catch the giant Gyarados that inhabited the nearby lake with Sylveon's help."
"That was the lake that housed that Gyarados I heard about? Sounds like Steve and Christie dodged a bullet when their make-out session was interrupted." Karen thought with a look of amusement on her face. "And he's a medical student, I guess that explains the get-up, maybe hanging out with him would be in my best interest." Karen thought before grinning. "Forget what I said, as soon as I get my Eevee from Professor Sycamore I'll join you."
"Excellent, Sylveon please move over to give the lovely lady some room when she returns!" Zach instructed his Pokémon who nodded before moving over and once Karen had transferred her Pokémon she sat down next to him. "In all my excitement I forgot to introduce myself, I'm Zach Michaels and I'm from the Hoenn Region."
"I'm Karen Midawa and I'm from the Kalos Region." Karen introduced herself as Sylveon made herself comfortable again. "So who was that trainer who nearly wiped out your team?"
"Some Flying Type trainer called Jack, he certainly thought high of himself and his team was quite powerful." Zach responded with a shrug. "Not powerful enough to take down my Sylveon though, that said he didn't take the loss well."
"No kidding." Karen responded as she glanced towards the Sylveon.
*later on*
It was now night time at the gang's campsite and most of the trainers where asleep in their tents, however there were one trainer who was still asleep who was fishing at the lake and it wasn't Christie either.
"Man, I can't get any sleep!" Dalton thought as he rested his chin on his hand. "At least I can kill some time until I can get some sleep by fishing….." Dalton's thoughts were interrupted when he felt a tug on the rod and he quickly gripped onto it as hard as he could. "I swear if it's another Magikarp I'm going straight to bed!" Dalton thought before reeling it in quickly, however it wasn't a Magikarp that had been caught on the line. "A Krabby, wonder if it's the same one Christie failed to catch earlier." Dalton thought before getting hit with a Water Gun to the face. "Yep, it's definitely the same Krabby." Dalton thought before activating a Pokeball. "Pikachu, go!" Dalton tossed the Pokeball and the Pikachu emerged from it.
"Pika!" Pikachu said happily once he was let out of his Pokeball, when he saw the Krabby trying his best to snap the fishing like with his pincers however Pikachu quickly got the idea.
"Are you ready to make our first capture since Mankey Pikachu?" Dalton asked and Pikachu nodded. "Pikachu, Quick Attack!" Dalton commanded and the Pikachu charged towards the Krabby before slamming his body into him knocking him free from the line in the process. "Great, knowing my luck he'll head straight back into the lake!" Dalton thought before the Krabby charged towards Pikachu and hit him with its glowing claw. "That was Crabhammer! I guess it wants to fight after all!" Dalton thought as Pikachu got back to his feet. "Pikachu, Thunder!"
"Pikaaaaa….." The Pikachu trailed off as he charged up his electricity and the Krabby charged in for another Crabhammer. "CHUUUUUU!" Pikachu finished his cry before letting lose with the electric type attack, it hit its mark and once it was done the Krabby was knocked out.
"Pokeball, go!" Dalton called out as he tossed the Pokeball and successfully captured the Krabby. "I caught a Krabby!" Dalton exclaimed happily only to be hit with a flying hairband.
"Some of us are trying to sleep Dalton!" Christie shouted at him and Dalton sweat-dropped before calling back Pikachu before he could make a leap for Christie's breasts, Christie was currently in her nightgown and her messy hair was currently out of its usual ponytail. "Why are you up capturing Pokémon anyway?!"
"Same reason you're up, I couldn't get any sleep." Dalton responded with a frown as he handed Christie her hairband back. "And besides, if you're mad now I'd hate to see your reaction to which Pokémon you captured.
"Dalton, if that Krabby you caught was the same one I failed to capture earlier I won't be happy!" Christie responded with a frown and Dalton shook his head as Christie quickly got the idea. "It's the same Krabby isn't it?"
"Yeah, he hit me with a Water Gun and everything." Dalton responded with a nod and Christie face-faulted. "Look, just go back to bed I'm going back to Karratas to have Nurse Joy heal up my Krabby." Dalton added as Christie got back to her feet.
"Is it too late to ask for a trade?" Christie asked hopefully and Dalton nodded before walking off, Christie moaned in response before returning to my tent. "At least the day can't get any worse." Christie thought as she closed the tent door.
*the next day*
It was now early in the morning and the gang where just waking up and getting ready to start the day. Well all except for Dalton that is.
"I can't believe it took Nurse Joy that long to heal up Krabby and Pikachu." Dalton thought as he let out a tired yawn whilst he walked down the path that would take him to where the gang had set up camp for the night, he ended up sleeping at the Karratas Pokémon Center again due to how long it took for his Pokémon to heal up but he was now on his way back. "It should be smooth sailing from here anyway, unless I bump into a trainer…." Dalton's thoughts trailed off when another male walked down the path opposite him, the two trainers stopped as their eyes met.
"I suppose you're familiar with the unwritten rule." The other trainer, a tall man with brown curly hair and dark green eyes who was wearing an air force t-shirt, blue jeans and red Reebok shoes, said with a cocky smirk. "When two trainers' eyes meet a battle must begin."
"Actually I wasn't, kind off new to the whole Pokémon Trainer thing." Dalton responded with a smirk. "But if it's a battle you want it's a battle you get, my name's Dalton and I'm from Viridian City."
"The name's Jack and I'm from Cerulean City." Jack responded with a smirk. "So how many badges do you have?"
"Just the boulder badge, soon as me and my companions get to Cerulean City that'll change." Dalton responded with a smile. "What about you?"
"Same here, I could've just stayed in Cerulean and challenge their gym leader but I was advised not to." Jack responded with a smirk. "How about we keep things simple? Say, two Pokémon each?"
"That works for me!" Dalton responded with a nod as he nodded to him. "You go first."
"Very well, Abigail, I chose you!" Jack tossed the Pokeball and a Crobat emerged from it.
"Abigail?" Dalton asked with a raised eyebrow. "Is it safe that assume that that Crobat's a female one?"
"Yes, she is and just to get it out of the way, all of my Pokémon are female." Jack responded and Dalton blinked in confusion. "It wasn't exactly by choice, all the Pokémon I've caught to date are female."
"Well it just so happens that my Pokémon team features a perverted Pikachu." Dalton responded and now it was Jack's turn to look at him with confusion. "Like you it wasn't exactly by choice, he was my starter Pokémon, anyway, Pikachu go!" Dalton tossed the Pokeball and his Pikachu emerged from it. "Pikachu, try not to get excited but all of his Pokémon are female."
"Pika?" Pikachu asked as he turned to his trainer with a confused look on his face.
"Then again, I think the only Pokémon you'd be interested in is Gardevoir." Dalton admitted as he rubbed the back of his head nervously. "Do you have one?"
"All my Pokémon are trying types figure it out for yourself." Jack responded with an annoyed sigh. "And before you ask about how I managed to win the Boulder Badge with an exclusively Flying Type team, it was with extreme difficulty."
"I'd say something about that but one of my traveling companions managed to win the badge using her Eevee so who am I to judge." Dalton admitted as he shook his head. "Also usually someone volunteers to be the ref for a Pokémon Battle…."
"And there's no one around to fill the position." Jack interrupted him as he shook his head. "Besides, this is a two on two Pokémon battle so I don't think we'd need a judge."
"Dalton?" Christie's voice rang out and the two trainers looked up seeing Christie who was currently wearing the same outfit she wore yesterday. "Were…." Christie trailed off before moving out of the way as Dalton's Pikachu made a leap for her breasts. "Were where you?"
"I was on my way back to the campsite but I bumped into Jack here." Dalton responded as he motioned to the other trainer. "And now a battle's about to begin."
"Just like that? You do realize that you've missed breakfast right?" Christie asked as Dalton's Pikachu returned to his side of the field. "Why didn't you just say no?"
"She hasn't heard of the unwritten rule either?" Jack asked and Dalton nodded. "Well since you clearly have more interest in looking pretty than actually having a brain I'll…." Jack trailed off as Christie grabbed onto his ear and pulled him towards her.
"Say that again!" Christie demanded as she gave him a nasty death glare whilst Dalton and Pikachu sweat-dropped.
"Since you are obviously new to Pokémon battles I'll tell you!" Jack quickly corrected himself and Christie let go. "Basically when two trainers' eyes meet a battle begins."
"That's one of the stupidest rules I've heard and I used to go to a school that banned crop tops because they were distracting for boys." Christie commented as a large sweat-drop rolled down her head.
"And considering how many crop tops I've seen you wear you must've hated that rule." Dalton responded and Christie shook her head.
"Yeah but the school quickly dropped that rule when the moms in Pallet Town pointed out the double standard at the next PTA meeting." Christie added with a frown. "Back on topic, what if a trainer's Pokémon team is wiped out when that happens?"
"Yeah, and that's why it's an unofficial rule and not a mandatory one." Jack responded as he shook his head. "Are all your companions this dumb?"
"No, they're not but this particular companion likes kicking the balls of boys who annoy her and she's a former captain of a high school soccer team!" Christie pointed out with an angry look on her face and Jack sweat-dropped with a wince. "Unless you want to experience that first hand I'd suggest you shut up and start this damn battle!"
"Excellent idea, and since you're here why don't you be the ref for the match?" Jack offered with a nervous laugh and Christie nodded before stepping in between the two trainers. "And to avoid confusion, my Crobat is called Abigail."
"Are you sure you're going to be okay as the ref Christie? The last time you reffed a match was when you met me." Dalton commented and Christie grinned.
"I'll be fine and besides, it's not the first time I've been airtight with two boys….." Christie trailed off once she realized what she had said. "One word of this to Steve or Ann and you're going in the lake with your clothes on!"
"But that means that I won't get to see you get wet!" Dalton complained only to blush when Jack burst out laughing. "How about we just agree to only mention me kicking this guy's ass in a Pokémon Battle?"
"Deal, are you guys ready to begin?" Christie asked and the two boys nodded. "Then begin!" Christie called out and the boys grinned.
"Then let's get this show on the road! Abigail, Aerial Ace!" Jack commanded and the bat like Pokémon flew towards Dalton's Pikachu.
"Pikachu, Quick Attack!" Dalton commanded and the Pikachu charged towards the Crobat at high speeds, Abigail was able to get her attack off first but Pikachu quickly recovered before hitting the Quick Attack. "Now use Thunder!" Dalton added and the Pikachu started charging up the attack.
"Abigail, use Double Team!" Jack commanded and the Crobat split into several copies off herself causing the Thunder attack to hit one of the duplicates. "Did you really think I'd train an exclusively Flying type team without some kind of protection against attacks like that?"
"Your Crobat can't avoid the Thunders forever!" Dalton responded with a frown and Jack smirked.
"Abigail won't need too! Abigail, use Cross Poison!" Jack commanded and the all the Crobats started firing purple energy in the shape of a cross at Pikachu but while the attacks did hit Pikachu remained standing. "I'll give you credit for raising your Pikachu well but he can't keep this up forever!"
"He won't need too!" Dalton responded as an idea popped into his head. "Pikachu, use Thunder on all of the Crobats!"
"Wait, what?" Christie and Jack yelled out simultaneously as Pikachu unleased the Thunder on all of the Crobats including the real Abigail, fortunately for them Christie and Jack were able to avoid the stray bits of Thunder and once it was over Abigail was out cold.
"Abigail is out! Pikachu wins!" Christie called out before sweat-dropping. "And I just remembered that there's no one around to hear me besides you two."
"I can't count the number of times I've made the same mistake whilst referring a match for friends myself, so don't feel too bad about it." Jack admitted before grinning. "And besides, your statement is incorrect as both Pikachu and Abigail are out!"
"Huh?" Christie and Dalton asked simultaneously before turning to Pikachu who had passed out.
"Remember Cross Poison? On top of dealing damage to the target Cross Poison also comes with a ten percent chance of poisoning the target." Jack explained as he called back Abigail and Dalton did likewise with Pikachu. "Add in the damage that Pikachu took from the Cross Poison in the first place and you know the rest."
"Unfortunately yeah, I do." Dalton responded as he activated another Pokeball. "But let's see how you handle the newest member of my team! Krabby, I chose you!" Dalton called out and much to Christie's annoyance the Krabby that she almost caught the day before emerged from the Pokeball.
"You chose to send out that Pokémon just to annoy me didn't you Dalton?" Christie asked with a deadpan expression on her face but before Dalton could respond the Krabby hit her in the face with a Water Gun. "I can't tell if Krabby is more annoying than Pikachu at the moment."
"Am I missing some context here?" Jack asked and the two trainers sweat-dropped.
"Long story short, Christie almost caught this Krabby yesterday evening but it broke free whilst he was pointing her Pokedex at it." Dalton responded and Christie frowned. "By hitting her in the face with a water gun and cutting her fishing line with his pincers but that's beside the point, later that evening I couldn't get any sleep so I decided to go fishing and ended up capturing it."
"Why would you go fishing if you couldn't get any sleep?" Jack wondered out loud before activating a Pokeball. "Forget it, Amber I chose you!" Jack tossed the Pokeball and a Charizard emerged from it.
"Amber? Was that the best nickname you could come up with?" Christie wondered out loud as she got her Pokedex out and Jack shook his head.
"I realize it's a horrible pun but it was the best name I could think off at the time." Jack responded as Christie pointed her Pokedex at the Charizard.
"Charizard, the Flame Pokémon and the evolved form of Charmander, when expelling a blast of superhot fire, the red flame at the tip of its tail burn with far more intensely." Christie pocketed the Pokedex once the data had been read out….only to be hit with another water gun.
"Three times in two days, I'm beginning to think that your Krabby has it out for me Dalton!" Christie grumbled under her breath as she wiped the water from her face with a napkin.
"Now that's not fair, he hit me with a Water Gun as well!" Dalton asserted before turning to Jack. "Back to the battle, sending a Fire Type Pokémon, evolved or not, against a Water Type Pokémon? If you wanted to lose that badly why not just surrender?"
"Because I'm not about to lose, Amber is not only my strongest Pokémon but she was my starter, I got her as a Charmander, she evolved just before I reached Pewter and a few battles later, including the gym battle…." Jack trailed off as he pointed to his Charizard. "You can see the results for yourselves." Jack added with a confident grin.
"Encase you haven't noticed Krabby still has the type advantage and I'll be taking full advantage of that." Dalton responded before nodding to Christie who had finally finished drying off her face.
"Huh? Oh right, the match!" Christie remembered before tossing the napkin into a nearby bin. "Begin!" Christie commanded and the two trainers grinned.
"Amber, use Steel Wing!" Jack commanded and the Charizard flew towards the Krabby as her wings started glowing silver.
"Krabby, use Water Gun!" Dalton commanded and the Krabby fired its Water Gun at the flying Charizard, however despite being hit by water at high speed the Charizard kept flying eventually making contact with the Krabby and carrying it with her. "I need to act fast or this battle may be over." Dalton thought before grinning. "Krabby, use Crabhammer!" Dalton commanded and the Krabby slammed his claw into the Charizard's back forcing her to let go and sending it crashing to the floor alongside Krabby, however both Pokémon where able to get back to their feet but were clearly worse for wear.
"If you think one Crabhammer will defeat Amber your dead wrong!" Jack growled before pointing to his Charizard. "Amber, use Dragon Tail!" Jack commanded and the Charizard span her body around before slamming her glowing tail into the Krabby.
"That's just what I was hoping for!" Dalton commented with a grin and Jack gave him a confused look. "Krabby, grab onto her tail with your pincers!" Dalton commanded and the Krabby was able to grab onto it before it could be sent flying and the Charizard flailed her tail around trying to shake it off.
"That's your big plan? Pathetic! Amber, take flight and use Dragon Tail to shake that Krabby off!" Jack commanded the Charizard flew into the air…..
"Just a few more seconds….." Dalton thought before the tail, and Krabby, was close to Amber's head. "Now Krabby, use Hydro Pump!"
"WHAT?" Jack yelled out but the surprise wore off to late as the Water Type attack hit its mark forcing Amber to abandon the move and let Krabby go, this time Krabby landed on his feet but Amber didn't.
"Amber is out! Krabby wins!" Christie called out before sweat-dropping. "I need to stop doing that." Christie muttered before shaking her head. "The winner is….."
"Don't finish that sentence!" Jack growled as he called back Amber and marched up to Dalton. "Dalton, do you realize what would've happened if Krabby's Hydro Pump had accidentally put out the flame on Amber's tail?!"
"Yeah, your Charizard would've died." Dalton responded with a frown. "That's why I waited until Krabby was near Amber's head, to minimize the risk of that happening."
"The fact that you took such a risk in the first place disgusts me." Jack spat out before storming off. "Next time we meet I'll battle your girlfriend because she seems dumb enough to give me an easy victory!" Jack added before storming off down the road and Christie turned to Dalton once he had disappeared from site.
"So, was what that jackasss said true?" Christie asked and Dalton nodded. "You realize what could've happened if you did kill his Charizard right?"
"Like I said, I tried to minimize the risk as much as I could." Dalton admitted as he called back Krabby. "Well as you saw my Pikachu is out cold and we're too far away from Karratas to make a quick trip back there, you wouldn't happen to have a Revive on you would you?"
"I left my backpack at the campsite but I think I do have one in there." Christie responded with a frown. "He knows the area well so maybe he's headed towards a Pokémon Center?"
"You really expect me to follow him considering how badly our first meeting went?" Dalton asked and Christie frowned when she realized that he had a point. "I'll take my chances for now and if I encounter any other trainers I'll use my other Pokémon like Ralts, Butterfree, Manky or Krabby." Dalton added before his stomach rumbled. "Besides, I'm hungry and the nearest Pokémon center is probably not for miles."
"That's a good point." Christie responded with a nod. "Let's head back then, I'm sure Steve can cook you something and besides, we still haven't gone for a swim yet."
"You haven't? Was it because you were waiting for me?" Dalton asked and Christie nodded. "Well I'm not about to pass on the opportunity to see you in a bikini…I mean get some exercise." Dalton laughed nervously as Christie glared at him. "Let's go." Dalton added as the two teens returned to the campsite.
