For a long time, Raine found it hard to believe in change. When a person lived as long as she would, everything seemed the same. The world's mana was slowly declining. Half-elves were subject to discrimination. The Desians ran rampant over the world. The seasons cycled and everything remained the same.
The journey of world regeneration turned her world upside down. Or rather, it turned her upside down. She had been a person who said there was no second option, no second chance, no other way. Things were how they were. They didn't change.
But to her surprise, as they traveled along the path that twisted and changed beyond what they could see or expect, she found that she was changing. And as she changed, she found herself willing to believe in change, that other things could change just like she had.
Not everything could be changed. She still believed that. But now she realized that some things could change. And as time passed, people could change too. It might take months or seasons or even years, but people could change just like she had.
It hadn't been that nothing was changing. Really, it was that she just hadn't been willing to see it.
