Song: Read My Mind, The Killers
Focal Character(s): Zelos
Zelos wondered, sometimes, if the goddess could read his mind. Colette seemed to think she could, the way she dutifully said her prayers even though Martel's angels would see her killed to regenerate a dying world and a sleeping goddess.
He couldn't always bring himself to pray. In fact, it was a rare occurrence that he did. Martel's name more often graced his lips as a swear word than as a prayer. He didn't even know if he believed in her or not. What good did a sleeping goddess do, one that would take the lives of the Chosen after Chosen in order to awaken? The world seemed to be doing all right on its own.
Of course, if it wasn't for Martel, Zelos would just be some nobody somewhere that no one cared about. Not that anyone actually cared about him. They cared about his status, a status he held thanks to Martel.
If the goddess could read his mind, she'd probably be pretty shocked. No one would expect the Chosen One to be so blatantly irreverent.
Well, Zelos reasoned, no use worrying about it. If she could read his mind, then what she was hearing was exactly what she deserved.
