"The herbs ease the pain but cannot stop the poison spreading through the body," Elrond replied with a rare tenderness and sadness, his eyes troubled. "I do hope he lasts till Imladris."
"That's it?" Gimli asked in disbelief. "Is that all you can do?" He could not give up on his friend, not after everything they had survived together.
But Elrond only sighed and shook his head. "For once, I feel so helpless," he admitted. "I have no insight as to why Legolas was not in the vision."
"Because he died…" Gimli sighed, increasingly resigned to losing his best friend.
