The news of Boromir's 'accident' spread through the campus like wildfire. Rumours accompanied the news, and Gimli was getting quite sick of hearing them. He was tired of people saying that Boromir had been killed in the accident, that the car that hit him was actually a monster truck, and/or the person behind the wheel had actually been a trained assassin and Boromir was a spy (Gimli may have started that one). As much as he wanted to correct the rumours, he did not want people to know that he was in the know about the accident and especially did not want them asking everything about Boromir's state.

Though Boromir was recovering, the accident still impacted the students of the university quite greatly. Gimli would see that students no longer travelled alone, or even in twos; they travelled in large packs, like scared antelopes on the plains of Africa. He had to wade through them every time he wanted to cross the road, go to the grocery store, or even get into his lecture hall.

Legolas had posted on their Facebook group (the one that Gimli was quite reluctant to check), saying that the buddy system had to be used. Aragorn, now buddy-less due to Boromir being in the hospital, had to partner up with Gimli and the vegan psycopath. Gimli didn't mind; it gave him more time to tease Aragorn about his girly necklace and Arwen.

Now, Gimli had been living with Legolas ever since second year of university, and had frankly gotten used to his habits. Legolas woke up extremely early. Legolas liked everything to be neat and tidy. Legolas was a control freak. Legolas had a nice singing voice, which he used often when he was singing. Gimli had basically deemed Legolas a Disney Princess and had to deal with that. But, in all the years that Gimli had to put up with Legolas, he had never seen Legolas in a slump.

Gimli, who frankly thought that talking about feelings was something to be avoided at all cost, knew that he had to do something about Legolas's slump. The environmental science major had only brushed his teeth once this morning; something was clearly wrong.

"Um… Legolas, did something happen?" Gimli asked as he poured his milk into his cereal. He was hoping that Legolas's response would be 'no,' but when Legolas looked up at him from his bowl of oatmeal with a solumn face, Gimli knew that there was no turning back.

"Tauriel broke up with me," Legolas said softly, "Even though she knew that Boromir had gotten into an accident."

Gimli stared at Legolas, increasingly thinking that this was a bad idea. Gimli had never been in a relationship because he was so busy with being an engineer. He was more interested in knowing how to build a bridge than knowing how to deal with women.

"That's…" Gimli paused to think of the proper word, "Insensitive."

"It's more than insensitive!" Legolas exclaimed, whipping out his cell phone and thrusting it into Gimli's hands, "She broke up with me over text, and even told me that she already had a new boyfriend!"

Reason number twelve hundred why I am never dealing with women, Gimli thought as he looked at the phone and the text messages there.

'I'm sorry leg, it's not working.'

'what?"

'we're over… we haven't been on a date in forever… you like that café more than me.'

'no, I don't.'

Yes you do, Gimli thought, though he said nothing.

'I already have another guy I like. Kili's more fun than you.'

Legolas ripped the phone out of Gimli's hands, and then said, "What does this Kili guy have that I don't?"
Gimli was definitely not going to mention the fact that Kili was his cousin. Gimli shrugged, "Pathetic stubble?" Kili had tried, and failed multiple times, to grow a beard.

Legolas sighed, and leaned back in his chair, "I guess... Anyways, I shouldn't be focusing on her… I should be focusing on Boromir's health."

"I think we should leave him be until he actually wakes up from his coma," Gimli suggested, finishing his cereal and then standing from the cafeteria table to go and put his dishes back. He glanced over his shoulder to see Legolas looking utterly defeated. Gimli couldn't really blame him; a lot had happened in the course of a week. There had to be something that he could do in an effort to cheer Legolas up.

The idea Gimli had made him groan. How could he, an engineering student, do this to himself? He looked over at his miserable roommate, and decided that he had to do as he must. Gimli sat down at the table, watching as Legolas flipped through pictures (probably of him and Tauriel) on his phone, "Why don't we visit that professor your dad was friends with."

"You mean Professor Lorien?" Legolas asked.

"Errr…" Gimli didn't even know the prof's name; only that they were a philosophy professor and that he thought the subject that they taught was extremely useless. "Yes. Prof. Lorien. Aren't you friends with them or something?"

"In a way," Legolas admitted, before he stood up abruptly, "Yes. Let's go."

Gimli tried to keep a smile on his face as he followed Legolas through the cafeteria and outside. It was snowing, yet again. Gimli hated snow, and he hated that Canada got so much of it. Throughout his entire life in Scotland, he didn't get as much snow in a year that Canada sometimes got in a week. He tried to brush the snow out of his beard, but ended up failing. He then supposed that he would just let the everybody laugh at him for having a snowy beard.

The philosophy building was in a part of campus that Gimli only ventured in when he was incredibly lost or incredibly drunk. It bothered him to see Legolas manoeuvre his way around this area with ease. Gimli was on the look out for any of his fellow engineering students, who would definitely tease him from getting anywhere close to this place.

Finally, they reached a rather old looking building, and Legolas marched up inside. Gimli followed him warily, looking at everybody in the building with untrusting eyes. Who would want to devote themselves to trying to figure out human feelings? He just didn't understand them.

"The office is on the second floor," Legolas told him. Gimli wasn't a fan of second floors; he liked to stay as close to the ground as possible. This was yet another reason for him not to like this professor.

They entered a small room, where a man with blond hair sat, typing on a computer. Gimli wondered if this was Professor Lorien. Legolas walked over to him, and smiled, "Hey, Haldir. Is Professor Lorien available?"

Haldir looked up from his computer, and then gave Legolas a smile, "She has no meetings or lectures right now, but she may be busy. I can give her a call."

She? Gimli had thought it to be a man. It made much more sense now; women and feelings tended to coincide better than peanut butter and jelly. Gimli hung back as Haldir called in to the woman's office.

"Go on in," Haldir said with a nod.

Gimli stayed as close to Legolas as possible. He didn't want to stay here for too much longer; he was afraid that he might catch the philosophy. Legolas was very comfortable in the building, as he knocked on the door.

The woman who answered it could have been a super model. Gimli looked down at his feet; not because he was embarrassed that she was so pretty, but so he could keep himself from getting blinded by her incredibly white teeth.

"Hello, Legolas…" she said in a rather soft voice. "It has been a while. I thought you would be coming to see me soon, with the events unfolding on the campus. How is Mr. Stewart?"

"Recovering very well," Legolas responded. Gimli was wondering why he wasn't freaking out about the fact that this woman had basically guessed the reason why Legolas had come to visit her. "Things have been stressful lately… I came for some advice."

"Oh, so this is about Tauriel as well," Professor Lorien said, "Did I not tell you that you two were not a good match?" It was then when she saw Gimli, "Oh? Who is this? Your boyfriend?"

"Room mate," Gimli said gruffly.

"An engineer," Professor Lorien said with a smile. "Seldom do I see your type around here. You did well thinking to come here."

Gimli's hypothesis that this woman was a witch was now heavily supported. He felt extremely uncomfortable as she pulled out chairs for the two of them. Legolas seemed to be completely unaffected by this.

"You come seeking advice, I presume. I am afraid I do not have all of the answers, as one often does not," she said. "Gandalf should be out of the hospital soon. In time for Valentines. The celebration should truly lift the spirits of most. Mr. Stewart should wake from his coma, if he continues on this path. This darkness with not endure."

Legolas nodded, "And about Tauriel?"

The woman gave Legolas a smile, and Gimli was tempted to shield his eyes. "You already have a solution for that, Legolas. You need to just stop over looking it."

This was why Gimli did not like philosophy folk; they spoke in riddles. He did not understand how Legolas seemed to be more relaxed than he was before. Legolas stood up from his chair, "Thank you."

Gimli was incredibly confused; they had literally been here for a minute, why were they already leaving? Legolas gave the woman a nod, before he left the room.

Gimli stood from his chair, "Thank you, professor," Gimli said quickly, not looking at her.

She gave a small laugh, "Thank you, Gimli. If you keep on looking after your friends, good things shall come your way. Please keep that in mind."

Gimli nodded, before he turned and followed Legolas. It wasn't until they were out of the building when Gimli spoke. "How did she know my name?"

"She just seems to know things," Legolas shrugged, "You get used to it. Thanks, it was a good idea to go there…" Legolas looked off into the distance for a moment, before he turned to Gimli and said, "We abandoned Aragorn! We have to go to him, now. The buddy system cannot fail again."

Gimli sighed before Legolas ran down the street, yelling at Gimli that they couldn't be late for work. Gimli followed him, trudging through the snow with curses on his lips, and a smile in his heart. Legolas was back to normal, and that was all he could really ask for in these hard times.
