For a moment, Zelos saw salvation.
There was a way. There was a way. He couldn't believe that there could possibly be a way. But there it was. He could get out of the role he hated so much and give it to the one who wanted it. Seles could be happy; he could be happy – they both could. For the first time, finally, an angel had smiled on them.
The moment didn't last long.
He held onto that way for a while, and then he stood and watched as the other paths opened before him. He kept a foot on all of them. But he couldn't keep it up forever. The paths started to shift and blur, and by the end of it what he had once seen as the light of heaven became the fire of hell that drew him, coerced him, threatened to consume him.
Whatever would come, would come. He would meet it when it did. And he would have to own up to his actions when that happened.
