Eowyn was absolutely certain that Legolas was affiliated with the mafia. How he managed to get an entirely detailed map of Mount Doom Industries, which included where the security cameras were, she had no idea. Legolas also had a list of all the guards on duty. Eowyn was particularly interested in how Legolas managed to buy so many balaclavas without seeming suspicion and was certain that he had an underground dealer.
The blonde woman took the list of guards on duty from her boyfriend and checked it over. She looked down, not recognizing any of the names so far. They all seemed to be students at Mordor College. Eowyn was midway through the list as when she found a familiar name.
"Winston King?" Eowyn said, looking at the list, "Isn't he apart of that Nascar group or something?"
"Nazgul," Faramir corrected.
"That sounds worse," Eowyn muttered, putting down the list and handing it to Merry, "Like some disorder that takes thousands of lives each year."
"Nazgul: right up there with Ebola," Merry said as he studied the list. The group chuckled nervously. Legolas seemed to be the only one calm in the group. Even the ever stoic Gimli was chewing on his nails whenever he thought that nobody was looking.
The exception might have been Boromir, who was setting up everybody's hand-held radios to the right frequency. However, Eowyn was positive that he was possibly more nervous than anybody else, as his baby brother was waltzing into danger. Eowyn was half tempted to tell Boromir that she would keep an eye on Faramir, and that it was the tango, not the waltz.
"I've heard them being called the Ringwraiths too," Aragorn said in an attempt to be light hearted, though he was looking down at his balaclava and tugging on it.
Boromir chuckled to himself, and then said, "That sounds like a boy-band name."
"With new hit singles like "Breaking Your Heart Like We Broke The Café Windows," Pippin said, a smile tugging on the corners of his mouth. Another wave of uncomfortable chuckles littered the room. Legolas gave Pippin a disapproving glare, and Pippin shrunk away.
"We have half an hour until we go in. Dalamyr is going to help manage from inside the car with Boromir, as he does not ever wish to enter the building, for obvious reasons," Legolas said curtly, sounding much like a drill sergeant. Eowyn stared at him, wondering how the hell there was a stereotype that vegans were gentle creatures ever came up when Legolas was among their midst.
Pausing, Legolas stared at all of them, before he turned to Boromir, "Are the radios set up?"
Boromir nodded, "Don't mess around with the frequency or you'll lose all contact with everybody else and you're on your own. If you can try, the frequency is 23, but these radios are quite shitty and they are extremely hard to tune back. If all else fails, get back to the car and I'll help set it right. Hopefully…"
Eowyn looked at the man she basically considered to be her brother and raised her eyebrows at him. He caught her glance and slowly pulled up his hand to flip her off. Eowyn frowned at him, and stuck out her tongue.
"Are there any other questions?" Legolas demanded.
"Yeah, is there anything to eat because I'm starving," Pippin said. Legolas reached into his pockets and threw a chewybar at Pippin's head. Eowyn watched as it bounced off of the boy's head and into his lap. Pippin didn't even seem to be phased, as he then unwrapped it and shoved it into his mouth in one go.
Merry must have said what Eowyn was thinking, because Pippin began to choke. His cousin laughed as Pippin spewed bits of oats and nuts at him, and slapped Merry hard on the arm. Sam gave them a reproachful glance, and then shook his head.
"The partners are as such," Legolas began, pulling out a list, "Gimli and I are partners. Frodo and Sam are going to be partners. Pippin and Faramir are partners. Eomer and Aragorn are partners. Merry and Eowyn are partners. Any complaints?"
Nobody dared to question Legolas's decisions, and they all looked at their partners. Merry gave Eowyn a sheepish smile. Eowyn supposed that she was partnered with Merry because Legolas did not trust Pippin and Merry together. Though Merry was usually responsible, when he was partnered with Pippin, there was no telling how he was going to behave. Eowyn also had heavy respect for Merry, as he had gone with Gandalf to help save her uncle from Grima.
"Get to the vehicles now!" Legolas instructed, looking down at his watch. Gimli gave a small huff and muttered something under his breath. Eowyn thought that perhaps he had simply said 'Aule help us' but she wasn't entirely sure.
She gave Faramir a small kiss on the cheek. He gripped her hand tightly and whispered a promise that they would both get out alive. Eowyn smirked at him, making a fist and saying, "Or we die trying!" in a way that she thought might have been carefree.
As she walked over to help wheel Boromir from the room (much to his distaste), she over heard him scolding Pippin, "You do anything to kill my little brother, and your head will be on a spit, you hear?"
Eowyn scoffed, and then said, "Good luck murdering him from your chair."
Boromir glared up at her, "I'm going to get out of this chair soon, and then, little sister, you are going to pay for all of the teasing you have done."
"I'm sure. Focus on the job at hand, bro. Keep track of our positions. Don't worry about the laws we're breaking; Merry'll keep track of that, right Merry?" Eowyn said, turning to him. The younger man seemed to be shocked to be brought into the conversation, but he quickly recovered.
"I'd rather not, actually," Merry said, "Ignorance is bliss..."
With that, Eowyn rolled Boromir into the elevator and down into the car. Dalamyr was waiting for them there, the Harad boy looking more nervous than anybody in the previous room. His usually tanned skin was pale, and he seemed to be fidgeting nervously.
Eowyn gave him a small smile, trying to be reassuring as she helped to hoist Boromir into the passenger seat. Dalamyr gave him a small ghost of a smile, which grew as Boromir began to complain about not being a little kid. Eowyn glared at him, and then punched the older man in the stomach lightly. Boromir began to cough, his disgruntled frown being marred by his continuous cough.
Eowyn got into the back of the car, sitting next to Merry. She hoped that they would talk strategy, but Merry simply handed her the radio that would be shared between them, and stared forwards.
"We're going to die," Merry muttered, his eyes not focusing.
"Nope," Eowyn said. Merry turned to look at her, Eowyn smirked, "Just you."
"Thanks."
"Don't worry, Merry. I took karate. I'm a black belt," Eowyn told him, patting him on the shoulder, "I can kick people in the balls so hard that they'll have to piss from their mouth for three months after."
Merry chuckled, while Pippin turned and gave her a disgusted look. Eowyn gave him one back. Faramir shook his head and sighed.
The drive to Mount Doom Industries was a quiet one. The roads were empty, apart from the other vehicles that belonged to the (as Legolas called it) 'rebellion'. Dalamyr had the radio on, but it was in a language that Eowyn did not understand. Must have been Dalamyr's mother tongue, as he seemed to be singing under his breath.
The factory was dark apart from a couple of windows, where late night workers must have been. Dalamyr parked the car on a side street, and wished them all luck. Boromir had begun to set up a small map and was fiddling around with a bunch of thumbtacks, each colour coded to mark a different pair of people.
Eowyn braided her hair, and then slid on the balaclava. She looked in the mirror of the car. It would be difficult to identify her, which meant that she would be relatively safe from getting arrested, as long as she didn't get caught.
Before Eowyn left to go to her starting position, she gave Faramir a hug goodbye. Though she knew that she was probably not going to die tonight, it was still nice to have at least some sense of closure.
Eowyn let Merry under the fence before she scrapped herself along the dirt to do so. Once on the factory's property, Eowyn felt uneasy. She held her camera at the ready, knowing that she only had sixty photos she could take with it. Each photo was like a bullet clipping; she had to take it, and then find some cover so she could reload.
She cursed Legolas for getting cheap disposable cameras, but she figured that he was a university student, despite the fact that his father was rich, and needed to pay for things.
Once they made it close to the factory, Merry gestured to something, and they both took cover. Eowyn peaked from over the shipping crates and saw a guard. He wasn't wearing a uniform, simply wearing a hoody; a Mordor College hoody.
"Let's avoid him," Merry whispered to Eowyn, "I'm getting bad vibes."
Eowyn had to agree, and they both scuttled around the crates, and slipped into the door while he wasn't looking.
Eowyn didn't think it was possible for the inside of the factory to be worse than the outside. It was a complete mess, with boxes and crates everywhere. She saw a crown ladder that had no safety bars around it, and lifted her camera up for the shot.
With a click and a small flash, Eowyn captured the image. She felt proud of herself for a couple of moments, before she heard footsteps, and a shout of "Who's there?"
"Fuck!" Eowyn hissed, grabbing Merry by his sleeve and ducking under a pile of disorganized crates yet again. Eowyn turned down the dial of the handheld radio, and held her breath. They were going to get caught; they were so going to get caught. Damn that flash.
The guard began to kick around the crates, lifting them up and shaking them violently. Eowyn looked at Merry, only to see him looking around for a different place to hide. Eowyn attempted to do the same, but the crate they were hiding behind was lifted and tossed to the side.
"There you are, you rats," the guard said. Eowyn looked up at him, and recognized the bastard; Winston King. Of course, the only one she knew happened to be right there.
Eowyn didn't even think as she chucked her camera at the college student's head, and then yanked Merry to his feet. "Run!" she hissed, pushing him away.
"You bitch! You should know what you started! No bro can take me in a fight!" the guard yelled, chasing after them.
Eowyn whirled around, and punched, smacking the guard in the face. He squealed and grasped at his now broken nose. Eowyn smirked, and then said, "You should know, King, that I am no bro," before she knocked him unconscious with another punch.
Merry gaped at her before a loud alarm started beeping.
"We should go," Merry said.
"Good plan," Eowyn replied, flexing her hand, feeling glad that she had chosen to wear gloves. The two of them scampered off back to the car. Eowyn had just reached the car when she realized that she had left her disposable camera, and the only photo she had taken, behind.
"Merry, you didn't, by any chance, take a photo, did you?" Eowyn asked, gesturing to the camera in his hands. Merry shook his head, "Dammit. There goes any chance of us getting any evidence."
"Well, there were still other teams," Merry said, a hopeful tone as they leaned against the car.
Boromir rolled down the windows, "That didn't take long."
"The alarms went off," Eowyn told him grumpily, crossing her arms, "And I tossed my camera at the wanker who was trying to catch us so now we have no evidence!"
Boromir went off, muttering and swearing under his breath. Eowyn had to agree with him, clucking her tongue in an irate manner. When Boromir finished swearing, he looked up, "Did anybody get caught?"
"I dunno," Eowyn grumbled, still furious with herself for throwing her camera.
"Did any good come of this?" Boromir asked.
"Well…" Merry said, pulling off his balaclava so Boromir could see his face, "Eowyn punched Winston King, one of the Nazgul, in the face twice and knocked him out cold. It was pretty amazing."
Boromir reached from the window and clapped Eowyn's shoulder. "Good."
They said nothing more after that, waiting until all of the groups showed up. Faramir was one of the last to come, saying that they got into a small spat with a security guard, to whom Pippin pulled down their pants, which allowed for an escape. Boromir thanked Pippin, before he scolded his brother severely.
Eowyn was too disappointed to say anything. So far, nobody had gotten any evidence that they could use against Sauron.
The last group to arrive was Frodo and Sam, both of whom seemed to be completely fine and not unsettled by the alarm. Legolas walked over to them, "Our only hope lies with you two, Frodo Baggins and Sam Gamgee… did you get any pictures?"
Frodo didn't answer. Instead, he pulled out his smart phone, and opened up a video. It showed the late-night workers, all of whom were not wearing masks or gloves, working on a fresh batch of molten plastic.
"Sam was the decoy," Frodo explained, "He started taking pictures with his camera while I took this video. Sam left the camera behind as to give Sauron a sense of ease, but I still have this, and a couple more pictures."
The group gave a small, 'WHOOP!' before Legolas announced, "Everybody back to my place! We're having coffee and cookies to celebrate!" there was another small cheer, before Legolas turned to Merry, "Do you, by any chance, still have the information card of that reporter?"
Merry pulled out the card, and handed it to Legolas. Eowyn smiled at him, and told herself that it would be incredibly rude to tease Merry about the small hearts that were drawn around Estella Bolger's name.
