Song: Deliver Us, The Prince of Egypt Soundtrack
Focal Character(s): Van
It was almost funny, Van thought, how the world didn't seem to realize that it was crying out for deliverance.
Its people went through the motions day after day, flocking like sheep to readings of the Score, basing their very lives on words of a woman long dead who saw a future of destruction. They didn't even know they were slaves.
Van paused, gazing expressionlessly at the cathedral. People brushed past him, stepped around him on their way to work. Their very clothing displayed the symbols of Yulia. All for a Score that foretold their doom.
Sometimes, he wondered when they would see their bondage. He wondered when they would understand that they had labored away, lived and died for a promise of darkness instead of the light they believed in.
His boots tapped firmly against the cobblestones as he continued up the stairs, nodding at the guards that stood stiffly to attention at the sight of his Dorian General's uniform. He never wondered for long. He knew the answer. He always had. It was almost funny, in a way. They wouldn't realize until he erased this world of bondage and replaced it with a world of freedom.
They didn't even realize that he was their deliverer.
