Hello Everyone!
Just an idea that I got while falling asleep, as well as coming across a few fics and rereading House of Hades (mainly the Caleo parts), but yes this is a Caleo fic, because I was sleepy with a few ideas.
Anyway more notes at the bottom.
Onwards to the story!
Jason's POV
Jason walked down the corridor of the Argo II, trying to find Leo. He was concerned about how Leo had been acting at the café and how he had reacted to the name "Calypso". He walked into the engine room, trying not to trip over the tangled cables and wires. He found nothing but more wires, so he headed to the statue, which was stuck in the middle of the ship.
He crawled all over the ship, searching even in the stables, but couldn't yield any results. He headed towards Leo's room to see if he was there, though he doubted it because the boy rarely stayed in his small room for long amounts of time due to his ADHD.
He reached Leo's room, with the door slightly ajar, and was about to knock when he heard someone humming an odd song from inside, something that he hadn't heard of before. But that wasn't the weird part.
The weird part was that the song reminded him of the beautiful and peaceful times in his life. It was like it was entrancing him to revisit all the good things he had ever lived through.
He looked in and saw Leo, tinkering with a strange compass-like object, humming the strange song as he worked. Jason knocked and pushed open the door a little more. Leo shot up, quickly hiding his project and abruptly stopping his humming.
"Holy Hephaestus, Sparky! Don't scare me like that!" he exclaimed. "Well don't just stand there like an idiot. Come in!"
Jason pulled up a chair next to Leo, who leaned back in his, propping his feet up on his desk.
"Hey man, what happened with you? Where were you when you-"
"Whoa! Whoa! Slow down! Nothing happened, man," Leo said, not making eye contact. "There's nothing wrong, I'm just thinking about something."
"About what?" Jason asked. "You can always trust me. Come on, we're supposed to be best friends, right?"
Leo continued to stare at the ceiling, chewing on his bottom lip, before finally, turning around and replying. "Fine I'll tell you, but promise me, you won't tell anyone." Leo stared at him, with a serious expression that Jason had never seen on him before, but he still had a weird look in his eyes, like he was in two places at once.
"Okay, I promise. So, what's going on? Why are you acting like that?"
What did Calypso do to you? Jason held back this question, knowing that if he pushed too hard, he would make Leo fall. And where would that get him?
"Slow down, Sparky," Leo laughed, a hollow sound that didn't sound like him at all. "Like I just said, I will tell you about my days on an island of…" He took a deep breath and forced the word out. "Ogygia."
Jason recalled Piper mentioning something about Percy having visited an island by that name, meeting a goddess who had fallen in love with him. But as part of her curse, she could only fall in love with heroes who would have to leave eventually. What did that have to do with Leo, though?
"After being shot off from the ship by the snow princess, I fell toward the only island in sight." His face started to show a little pride. "As I was falling, I managed to make a helicopter with what I had mid-air, and I only survived because of that."
Jason studied his friend's face. Despite the pride shown there, his eyes were still shifting and looking everywhere as if searching for something. He wouldn't look him in the eyes.
"So, what happened afterwards?" he asked, prompting Leo to continue. "Did you meet Calypso? How did you meet her?"
Leo's face went slightly red at this and started fidgeting.
"I kinda crash-landed on her dining table, which was about three thousand years old," he said. "She started yelling at me for breaking her table, before trying to get me to leave."
Jason whistled. "Not exactly the best first impression on someone, eh?"
Leo snorted, shaking his head.
"It was a terrible first experience. But the raft that was supposed to come pick me up didn't come at all and so we went on our separate ways, getting as far away from each other, well as far away as we could on that beaut-" he stopped himself before continuing. "Well, we got off to the worst start you could ever think of, from pot throwing to yelling at each other... You name it, it happened. But after I found a ton of Celestial bronze, I started working on a few projects myself and eventually forgot to eat-"
"Wait, you were working to the point where you forgot to eat, again? We told you to be careful about that!" Jason exclaimed, exasperated, sighing at Leo, who was looking sheepish. "That isn't good for your health, you know that!"
"Yeah, yeah, I know. Anyway, Calypso came over and brought food for me, then later brought these clothes for me," Leo said, gesturing to the army jacket that he was wearing. "It's because I kept on burning the clothing she gave me. These are special in the way that they don't burn up or get too small, they even clean themselves." Jason looked at the army jacket and noticed that the jacket was indeed clean, considering any other clothing he wore would become covered in grease.
Leo licked his lips and continued to talk about his time in exile.
"Anyway, using the bronze that I found on the Island, I made the bronze mirror that Frank, Hazel and I found in Rome, but because Ogygia is hidden from the world, we needed a musical invocation-" he stopped again, lisking his lips once more. Jason furrowed his brow, wondering if he should stop him in order to halt the pain he was obviously in.
"To try and at least see the outside world,' he continued after a minute, "but Queen Dirt Face decided to interfere with us. I was about to fry her face, but Calypso talked with her and chucked her off the island."
"Uh, how did she do that?" Jason asked, wondering if Calypso had magic that could ward off evil earth goddesses, just like that.
"You know the three finger claw thing that they showed us at Camp? Well, she did that and Gaia just vanished, blown away by the wind. Calypso declared that she would help me, considering that if Gaia wanted me killed, then you guys actually need me to succeed in your quest," he said, grinning broadly at Jason, who shook his head.
"Anyway, I'm probably starting ramble here, but we eventually got the guidance console done and we started to plan how long it would take to make a ship, when that magical raft that was supposed to come ages ago came, though that's only because it comes when Calypso falls in love with the other person on the island-"
Jason spluttered, and then coughed. Leo frowned at his reaction.
"Wooow…! Did you really have to react like that, Sparky?" Leo frowned at him jokingly.
"So you mean it, right? She fell in love with you?" asked Jason, leaning in towards Leo, who backed away slightly.
"Of course! I mean, who doesn't love being on Team Leo!" Leo cried, waving his hands around. Jason grabbed his hands before he got hit in the face and put them down, looking Leo straight in the eye.
"She really did, didn't she? That's why you've changed so much and why you're working so hard too, to try and save her-"
"No."
That single word stopped Jason from speaking and caused him to look into Leo's now completely serious eyes. Those eyes held the seriousness that Jason hadn't seen before in his best friend's eyes.
"I know for sure that she's in love with me," he said slowly, "and that I'm in love with her."
Jason could only gape at the seriousness of Leo. Whatever Leo had done on that island had really changed him. He could only hope that it was for the good.
"Can I do anything to help you then?" he asked, cautious as to how Leo would react.
"Just make sure you don't tell anyone, because I want to see how this goes and figure out how I'm going to do this," Leo said, leaning back in his chair and relaxing. "I still don't really know how to do the whole feelings thing, you know? And this whole 'rescuing an eternally doomed, but really hot, Titan girl'."
Jason rolled his eyes but nodded.
"Well, I guess I can only wish you good luck and hope for the best then, huh?" said Jason as he got up and clapped Leo on the back. He reached the door and looked back, only to see Leo already back to working on his project, humming once more.
He smiled inwardly, happy that his friend had found something to fight for.
Well, something that wasn't the good of all humanity.
OK done!
That took a while too but oh well.
Personally, that was way too long, longer than planned anyway. I felt like I was really ranting in this story, so I hope you guys like this.
