Three-Mila

It had taken all night to get my room put together. But when I woke up the next morning and saw the finished product I was happy with it. When I first opened my eyes I didn't know where I was but when I saw the window in front of me I remembered. I was in La Push with Ava and Jeff. I got out of bed and walked over to the window. Last night I thought I saw something but as I stared there was no movement. It must have been all in my head. I turned around and saw it was 11:30. I only had 30 minutes to get ready.

After a quick and much needed shower, I slipped into a pair of jeans and one of my favorite sweaters. It was fall but I was anemic which meant I was always cold. When I got downstairs I grabbed an apple and a bottle of water and walked into the dining room. With exactly 2 minutes to spare I sat down on the couch and grabbed my laptop. I opened the internet and browser and clicked on my favorites list. One minute later I was typing letting my log in and joining the rest of my AP Government class. I was a senior in high school and Ava felt like starting over would be torture. Instead I was finishing my high school classes online. I was fine with that. School was never a place that I loved being. In fact back in Michigan I hated high school.

I had four classes that I was taking which equaled about 4 hours "in" school. The first day wasn't bad at all and my homework didn't require a lot of effort. It was good to know that this was going to be easy for me. I still had about two hours or so before Ava or Jeff was due home from work. That left me alone and very bored. Since I was all unpacked I decided to do some exploring. I changed out of my jeans and into a pair of PINK jogging pants. I pulled the pants up till just under my knee and slipped into my ratty old pair of running shoes. After doing five minutes of stretching, I slipped my earbuds in and headed down the driveway.

There were only two ways to run, left or right alongside the road. That was boring, granted I couldn't do it back in Michigan but I might as well run on a treadmill if I was going to do that. After finding the right playlist, I ran around the house and right up to the forest line. i paused for a second, not sure if this was a good idea. I knew nothing about the forest but I needed to do something. As long as I ran in a straight line there was no way I could get lost right? I also set the timer for thirty minutes. I would turn back in thirty minutes. As soon as I stepped foot in the forest, I started to smile. This was unlike anything I've done ever in my life and it was amazing.

Running past all the trees, jumping over branches and stones, seeing birds flying above and animals running from me it was amazing. Something I never really had the chance to do before. My timer went off but I decided to keep going. I was coming up on an hour when I finally decided to turn around. I slowed down and started walking. The songs on my playlist stopped. I looked down to find something else to listen to when I heard what sounded like crying. I pulled my earbuds out and held my breath.

"Get it together Mila," I mumbled to myself as I slid one earbud back in. I heard the crying again. I turned to the left and squinted my eyes, hoping that I could see something. All I saw were trees of course. I was standing in the middle of the forest. I shrugged off whatever it was and took a few steps back when I felt a breeze behind me. Quickly turning around I didn't see anything. My heart was pounding. It was at that moment, running along the road didn't seem quite as boring. This was a stupid idea Mila, I thought to myself. I turned around and screamed when I saw a lady standing in front of me.

"Are you lost?" she asked me. I turned around and looked behind me then turned and looked at her. Confused about where she had come from. I was pretty sure that I was all alone and here was this lady. She looked so out of place here. Her skin was pale, almost like a sheet of paper, and she had thick wavy dark brown hair. Her face was void of emotion as she stared at me. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath in.

"You smell divine," she whispered as she took another step "And out here all alone. Imagine that."

"What are you-" I stopped midsentence when she opened her eyes. They were black. My heart started pounding. And I could barely hear her from all the blood rushing to my ears. I took a step backwards and instantly fell on my ass. She walked over and crouched over me. Her hair was dangling down over my face. I tried to scoot away but the grass was making that impossible. She took another deep breath. This was it, I was going to die and there was nothing I could do about it. I had no idea who she was, what she was talking about, or why she choose me. But it was clear that I was going to die. And that sucked a lot. I was really looking forward to college and marriage and all that other stuff. But as she leaned down closer it seemed like that wasn't going to happen.

Suddenly I heard a loud howl. The brown hair snapped her head up and looked back in the direction of the howl. She looked back at me, like she was debating on what to do. A very loud growl and another howl which was much closer came from behind me. She jumped up and was gone before I could even process what was going on. I jumped up and looked behind me. All I could see was a blur of black fur. I turned around and started running. I could feel my arms and legs getting scratched but couldn't stop. I turned around to see if she or anything was behind me when I felt myself crashing into something hard.

"Whoa are you ok?" warm hands wrapped around my arms. I turned around and looked up into his eyes. Embry looked down at me, his face full of concern. He didn't have on a shirt which was weird it wasn't exactly summer time. His arms wrapped around my waist. I felt the heat from him on my hips. I yanked out of his arms and took some steps back. Before I knew it I felt myself falling back before I felt a horrible pain in my head. Embry was kneeling by me and I could see two other people run up beside him. Embry yelled out my name. I opened my mouth to answer him back but suddenly all I saw was dark.
