Author Note: Still looking for reviews. I just want to know if this a good one or not.
Four-Embry
This was getting old really quick. We hadn't had as big of an issue as the battle with the Cullen's, or lack of battle, should I say. But Jake still insisted we do patrols. I had been on my shift for about an hour, working the North perimeter while Seth was working the South perimeter. He heard Mila and smelled her before he saw her.
What do you want me to do? He asked. I saw Mila running and shook my head. Who the fuck would pick the forest to run in? Especially when you know nothing about it. Seth was confused as to who she was and why she was here. I could tell he was about to ask.
Just keep an eye on her. Don't get to close though. I told him. It sucked that we could all read each other minds but times like this, it came in handy. I reached the treaty lines and turned around heading towards Seth. I was halfway there when the familiar scent hit my nose. Seth smelled it to because he howled. What the hell was a leech doing here? Suddenly knowing that Mila could be in danger I ran deeper in the forest. Seth got there first, I saw Mila on the ground with a leech over her.
Seth get her to away from Mila, I yelled at him. He stepped forward and groan before howling. Jake and Collin had phased now and were running towards us.
The leech is heading further South, Seth told us. Mila took off running.
Embry go find Mila and get her out of here. We'll handle the leech. Jake said. I stopped running and sniffed the air. I didn't know where Mila was but thankfully the wind was working in my favor. I smelled the faint smell of cherries. I passed her and phased. I barely had my shorts on when I stepped out from behind a tree in front of her. She ran right into me. my arms grabbed hold of her before she hit the ground.
"Whoa are you ok?" I asked her. Her heart was pounding and her eyes were wide. She turned her head around gasping for air. Before I knew what was happening I had wrapped my arms around her waist. Suddenly she pushed me off her and stepped back. I should have been paying attention; I should have known the tree root was there. Mila tripped over it and fell back. The sound of her head hitting a moss covered rock was one of the loudest sounds I've ever heard. The smell of blood hit my nose.
"Mila…Mila…Mila!" I yelled at her but she didn't answer. She wasn't moving but I could still hear her heart beating. I crouched down and tried to pick her up when she started moaning. Jake, Seth, and Colin came running over towards us.
"We got the leech!" Seth said.
"What happened?" Jake asked.
"She fell, what does it look like? We have to get her out of here," I said picking her up. We got her back to her house. Ava wasn't home yet so I had to call Leah to help clean her up. Her wound wasn't the bad; a small cut on her temple it didn't need any stiches or anything. Leah cleaned it up and stuck a bandage on it. Mila kept saying she was sleepy but Leah refused to let her go to sleep. Something about her possibly having a concussion. I sat her in front of the TV and followed Leah on the porch.
"She's gonna be fine Embry. If she complains about a headache give her two of these," she said holding out a bottle of pills to me. She started walking off the porch but I stopped when I grabbed her arm.
"Leah you have to stay. I can't stay with her."
"I did you a favor by coming here Embry. I should have been back to work fifteen minutes ago. Look just be yourself, I know you're scared but trust me everything is going to be fine. I already called Ava when I was upstairs; she'll be home from work around 7. You only have to keep an eye on her for less than an hour."
"An hour is a long time Leah."
"What's the big deal? Most of the guys were dying for a chance to be around their imprints."
Leah was right; most of the guys did want to be around their imprints. But I wasn't most of the guys. I didn't want to have an imprint and I was already in a relationship. Bree and I had been together for almost a year and living together for the three months. Leah was already pulling out the driveway before I turned around and headed back into the house. Mila was still on the couch, flicking through the channels. I stood in the doorway not sure of what to do.
"You can come sit down if you want. I won't bite you know," Mila called out. I walked in the room slowly and sat down on the couch. I felt a pull to sit closer to her but instead left a full seat between us. Mila stopped on Animal Planet. They were doing a special on wolves. Oh great just what she needed to be watching. The band aid was a huge contrast to her skin tone. I still couldn't believe that I had let her get hurt right in front of me.
"Do you need anything?" I asked her. She turned to me, her face evident she was thinking.
"A bottle of water and some Tylenol would be great," she said as she turned back to the TV and started changing the channels again. She stopped on a music video and started singing along. In the kitchen I grabbed a bottle of water and glass. She laughed when I held out both to her. As soon as the cap was ripped off the top of the bottle she took a swig. Bree only drunk bottled water but never out of the bottle. It was weird and something I didn't understand. Mila thanked me as she took the white pills I held out for her.
I sat down on the couch and said nothing. The silence was awkward and I wanted to say something to her but I didn't know what to say. What do you say to the woman who the spirits say you're destined to be with. It should be easy for me to start a conversation with her but instead I was sitting there fiddling with my hands. I wanted to talk to her and get to know everything about her but I couldn't. She would think I was crazy if I started asking her a bunch of questions but sitting in silence was killing me. I figured I could start with why she moved in with Ava. Yes that was a good place to start.
"So…Mila what brings you to La Push?" I said after clearing my throat. Mila turned and looked at me. She looked down at the ground and then over to me.
"My dad passed away a little over a month ago. I have no idea where my mom is and thought I was going to end up in foster care when Ava popped up."
"I'm sorry to hear that," I said to her. I really was I understood what it was like not having one of your parents around. At least Mila had spent some time with her mother. I hadn't gotten any time with my dad, whoever he was. "Wait a minute foster care? How old are you?"
"17. How old are you?"
"I'm 29." Her eyes got wide and her mouth feel open at hearing this. Yes I was almost thirty just like the rest of the pack but I didn't look a day over 19 21 if I was stretching it. I normally told anybody new that I was 21 years old. It was easier to explain looking this young instead of telling them the truth. I hadn't even told Bree how old I was when I first met her. The fact that I was willing to be so open and honest with Mila and I had only known her for a day was crazy to me. that had to be the imprint.
"I don't believe you. Show me some ID," Mila said scooting closer to me. I don't even think she noticed it. I pointed down to the gym shorts I had on.
"I would but I left my wallet at home."
"Next time then," she said smiling and sitting back on the couch. I smiled hearing this. She had plans to see me again. But then I shook my head. Of course she would see me again. La Push was small. Of course she would see me again. I was about to ask her another question when her computer stared making a weird noise. Mila's face light up as she turned the TV down and flipped the computer around to face her. She tapped a button and the noise stopped.
"Hey baby cakes," a smooth tenor voice said from her computer. Mila laughed and waved at the screen. It was then I realized two things: One: she was on a video call and Two: she had left a boyfriend back home.
