Badaq Oakland loved the desert.
He breathed the desert wind and walked the desert sand. He planted his feet and slew monsters in the blink of an eye, the blood coursing through his veins, so real, so strong, so alive. The Lion of the Desert roared.
Largo the Black Lion hated the desert.
When they took the Fon Master to open the seal at the Zao Ruins, he did not think of the lion that used to prowl the sands. He did not listen for the voice crying "Meryl!" on the wind. He planted his feet and soaked the sands with the blood of monsters, so dark, so futile, so meaningless.
He lost a battle to children. He watched his daughter walk away.
Somewhere in the desert, he could hear the lion roar.
