Song: Moving Mountains, Thrice
Focal Character(s): Ion

What do you do, Ion thought, when you have the future of the world written at your fingertips?

He remembered the composite first through sixth fonstones in the chapel and space for the fragment of the missing seventh that would complete the Score. What do you do when that future ends in death?

He remembered watching Van and Mohs and the Order's cantors and the pilgrims in those first few weeks, when he was becoming Ion. What do you do, he thought, when people hand you all the power in the world, when people will walk across continents to see you, because they believe in the Score?

He remembered meeting Arietta and Anise and Asch and Jade and Luke and Tear and Guy and Natalia and so many others. What do you do when you use your power, the power you only have from the Score (the power you only have because someone else died before his time and they made you to take his name and his place), to give the Score up?

He remembered the panic, the fear, the hard work, the hope. He remembered the people, the good people, who would live in this new world of so many possible futures.

What do you do? You read the one possible path that is written at your fingertips. You take death out of another who needs to live and into yourself. You know who your self is. You let go.

Ion looked from Luke and Tear to Anise.

What do you do?

You love. You die.
