Eleven- Embry

I hated hospitals. I've always hated hospitals. But this was going to a really hard trip. Not only was I going to be dealing hospitals but I was going to be forced to see Mila with her boyfriend. I tried to mentally prepare myself for a sight that I knew was going to break me in two. Mila was nervous but she was doing a great job of holding it together. I admired that about her. She was strong and being an imprint you had to be strong. When she ran up and wrapped her arms around Caleb, I felt a pain in my chest. I needed to sit down so I fell into the first chair I could see. They were whispering to each other and it was like Mila had forgotten I was there. Was this a glimpse of what I had to look forward to if she denied the imprint? Always sitting on the outside looking in. A nurse came out and Caleb ran right up to her. She looked very young to be a nurse. After speaking to him, he told Mila to follow him. She jumped up and suddenly remembered I was there.

"You go ahead. I'm gonna run down to the cafeteria. I'll be here when you come back out." And just like that she was gone. I went down the cafeteria and forced myself to eat something. I didn't have much of an appetite which want normal at all. See that's the thing I hated about this whole imprint thing. I felt everything she felt. She was sad so I felt sad. I'm guessing she didn't have an appetite either because I usually had no problem eating. And now I could barely keep this food down. It could be because the food was horrible.

Another horrible thing about imprinting was the fact that I wanted to be around her. So even though I had to watch her be with him, I couldn't leave her. Why couldn't she just break p with him already? Break up with him and ask to be with me then all of this would be solved. I shook my head and stood up to throw my half eaten sandwich away. Of course everything wouldn't be worked out. There was still this whole Bree issue I had. Well it wasn't really an issue but I couldn't just leave her. We had history and I didn't want to hurt het. But she was trying to change everything about me. My house, my walls, she even told me to get a new job. But I couldn't be mad at her; it was all coming from a place of concern.

Patrols hadn't been increased but I ended up outside her house, just watching at least three days. Which was crazy and I'm sure made me a stalker but I couldn't help it. I just wanted to see Mila. And even now that it hurt watching her with him, I couldn't walk away from her.

She didn't tell me where we were going and I didn't ask. As we drove she pointed out places that were important to her. As soon as she turned into the cemetery, I knew where she was going. She drove around before stopping.

"You don't mind do you?" she asked. I shook my head no and she cut the car off. She climbed out the car and started walking on the grass. After about four steps she stopped and turned around.

"Come on," she yelled. I climbed out and followed behind her. We walked in silence not saying anything. I didn't know what to say. I wasn't expecting her to ask me to come. I figured talking wasn't something she wanted to do. We made it halfway across the grass before she stopped. In front of our feet was a headstone. It was flat on the ground. She leaned down and wiped it off. Once it was clean she kissed her fingertips and put on the small picture.

"Hey dad bet you weren't expecting to see me this soon huh? Well Mya was in a car accident. IF you see her peeking at the gate send her back for Caleb. Things at La Push are going good. Ava is great Jeff is…well Jeff is Jeff," she said laughing "But everybody is real nice. In fact if it wasn't for Embry I wouldn't even be here. I miss you so much daddy." Mila kissed the headstone again before standing up and standing next to me.

"You can say hi you know," she said after bumping my arm and laughing. She pointed to me and bent over laughing. "Your face is hilarious. I was just kidding but this is my dad. Well not my dad but you get it."

"Yea I understand."

We stood quiet for a few more minutes before Mila clapped her hands. "Well I'm sure you're tired. Let's go and she turned around heading back to the car. I followed behind her quiet and kind of confused. When we pulled up at the hotel she parked and waited while I checked us in. After getting the key she followed me inside. We made it up to our room and I let Mila lead that way in. There was a king size bed with an orange comforter on it. A red chair and ottoman sat on the left next to a nightstand. There was a wooden dresser at the foot of the bed with a TV on top and a small kitchen area.

"That is the ugliest comforter I've ever seen," Mila said walking towards the a closed door. She opened it up and I saw it was the bathroom. "I mean all the colors they could have picked and they picked orange."

"What's wrong with orange?" I asked amused. She was really upset about it.

"A better question would be what isn't wrong with it? For starters it rhymes with nothing and it's hard to match with. Don't tell me orange is your favorite color."

"No no I actually hate the color."

"I knew there was a reason I like you," she said before sitting on the bed. A smile spread across my face hearing her say that. She liked me! I looked around the room and saw we had a problem. There was only one bed. And while she was my imprint I didn't think it was proper to sleep in the bed with her. I pushed the ottoman in front of the chair. It might be uncomfortable but it was doable.

"What are you doing?" Mila asked me.

"Making my place to sleep," I said slowly.

"Why? This bed is big enough for two people. And you've literally been sleeping in chairs this whole trip."

"I know but I just-"

"Embry Call, are you saying I can't trust you because if you are then maybe I need to get my own room."

"You can trust me Mila. I just didn't want to make you uncomfortable."

"Ok so I'm going to sleep under this hideous orange cover and you can ley on top. Now that we have that agreed we need to shower. Caleb has graciously offered to treat us dinner. And I accepted on our behalf. It doesn't happen often." She jumped up from the bed and grabbed her bag before going into the bathroom. This had to be the closet to hell I've ever been in my life. And I had been pretty close if I said so myself.

We ended up in the middle of downtown Detroit at a Cuban restaurant. As soon as we stepped inside the atmosphere changed. Caleb started acting like he was salsa dancing towards his seat. Mila laughed, really loud. She looked so carefree; the happiest she had looked really since I'd known her. I hadn't noticed until that moment. But when Mila thought something was really funny, she threw her head back and laughed. Her mouth was wide open and her laugh was loud. Almost like a scream but not a scary scream. It was like the scream you did when you just went over the dip on a roller coaster. It was a laugh of pure happiness, a laugh that I wanted to give her one day.

"So Embry have you ever had Cuban food before?" Caleb asked me as we settled into our table.

"No I haven't."

"Vincent's is the best Cuban food in the city. You're gonna love it," Mila said as she opened up her menu. There was a lot to choose from and most of it I had no idea what it was. Mila and Caleb took over the ordering. While we waited for our food, it really felt like I was third wheel. They had so many inside jokes. Mila was constantly laughing at everything Caleb was saying. And she kept touching his hands and shoulders; or pushing him. It wasn't in a confrontation way but they were very affectionate. I wasn't getting mad while watching them but it was hurting me to look at.

"So Embry what do you for a living," Caleb asked me.

"I work on cars," I told him.

"That's great. Mila can really destroy a car. She almost blew an engine because she didn't get an oil change. "

"I did not!" Mila yelled and threw her napkin at him. They went back and forth telling embarrassing stories about each other. They had some real history. The food came out and it was really good. Once dinner was done Caleb let us know he was going to back to the hospital. He shook my hand and I kind of felt bad. I didn't think he would like me when I took his girlfriend from him. Mila kissed his cheek, gave him a hug, and then turned to look at me.

"Are you tired?" she asked me. I was tired. I had only been able to get cat naps in. But instead of saying I was, I shook my head no.

"Good, I wanna show you something. Let's go," she said before grabbing my hand and dragging me down the sidewalk.
