Sorry for the wait guys. My internet has been acting really freaky and the little one was. But to make it up I'm giving another triple update today! Enjoy it and remember reviews always mean the world to me!
Thirteen-Embry
I walk out the shower and see Mila laying across the bed. I put her phone on the small nightstand and gently pick her up. As I bend down to peel the comforter back, her arms tighten around my neck. I tried to pull them off but she just grabbed me tighter.
"Stay here," she whispered. I gently laid her down and slid in behind her. Even though this felt right, I couldn't help but feel bad. Bree was back home waiting for me and apparently planning the rest of our life out. She told my mother that I said we were going to add on to the house, so we can have enough space for the kids. My mother was not too happy to find out that I was planning on having kids and didn't tell her. I didn't want kids, never have wanted them. Children are very weird; just there incapable of doing anything on their own. And you had to be responsible for them for at least 18 years!
It was hard enough being a wolf. We were responsible for the safety of the entire reservation. And all while keeping it a secret that wolves actually existed and were needed. There was no way I wanted to have a child. Especially not now. I know that I smelled a leech somewhere around us. It's a distinct smell and one that I will never be able to forget. I had called Jake while I was in the bathroom and told him about what I thought I saw. There were only a few people out and I wasn't sure exactly but I thought I saw the leech who tried to attack Mila. He told me not to worry but to keep an eye out. Most importantly I was not to phase. But if there was a leech walking around, I needed to get back to La Push. I couldn't phase or protect people in the city by myself. I needed to get back home where we had the numbers that gave us a fighting chance. I didn't know how I was going to convince Mila that we needed to leave tomorrow but I needed to.
Mila moaned and moved closer to me. Her head nestled into the perfect spot on my arm. This was perfect, and I fell asleep with a smile on my face.
The sound of a gunshot jerked me awake. I was covered in sweat and my heart was pounding. I didn't know what I was dreaming about but whatever it was had me scared. I looked over at Mila and saw her face turned up in pain. Her heart rate was starting to increase. She started shaking and her head whipped from left to right.
"Mila…Mila…Mila…Mila wake up," I grabbed her shoulders and started shaking her. She screamed and started digging her nails into my arms. "Mila WAKE UP!" I yelled at her. Her eyes snapped open and she was panting. Her eyes were wild and I could tell she was scared. Her eyes scanned the room left to right then stopped on me. I let go of her shoulders and grabbed her hands. Just like she did with me last night I took a deep breath and looked into her eyes. Slowly I breathed in and out and nodded once she started to mimic my breaths. I tried to let her hands go but she shook her head no. "Don't leave me Embry. "
"I'm just gonna grab you some water. I'll be right back." Mila heisted but slowly slid her hands away from mine. Quickly I moved from the bed and into the small kitchen. I grabbed a bottle of water from the fridge and took it over to Mila. She was sitting with her knees pulled up close to her. Her head on them. Her heart rate had slowed down somewhat but was still fast. She grabbed the bottle of water and thanked me before opening it up.
"You wanna talk about it?" I asked her. Mila shook her head no. The small alarm clock on the dresser said 6:45 am. Mila finished her water and laid back down. "Can you lay with me Embry?" she asked. I nodded and eased down next to her. The bed groaned from my weight. As soon as I laid down, Mila snuggled up to me. Her heat beat was back to normal now.
"Mila, I have to get back to La Push sooner than I thought. Something came up with work. So we can't stay as long as we planned."
"We can leave as soon as I see Caleb," she said quietly. I wished she would have told me what was going on in her dream but I knew better than to push someone who didn't want to talk. We laid like that in the bed, saying nothing, until she was ready to go see Caleb and his mom. At the hospital I insisted on staying in the waiting room but Mila insisted that I go in with her. Caleb and his mother were laughing when we walked in. Mila kissed Caleb's mother then walked over to Caleb. They moved close to the door and to talk. Caleb's smiled at me and started asking me some questions. I knew that she wanted to talk to Caleb in private but I couldn't help but listen. He wrapped his arms around her.
"You look like shit," he whispered. Mila chuckled.
"I feel like shit. I didn't get much sleep last night. The dream came back."
Caleb hugged her again. "Oh Mila I'm sorry. You didn't mention the nightmares while you were away."
Mila stepped back from him. "I haven't had one since I left. I didn't realize how much I missed getting a full night's sleep until I didn't have one. It was worse because Embry was there."
"Did you tell him?" Caleb asked alarmed.
"NO!" Mila said loudly. I turned to look at them and she was looking around. "You know I don't like talking about it. I just," she let out a sigh "I just want thought I was over all of this you know."
"Mila it hasn't been that long since it happened," Caleb told her "Maybe you should go back to La Push."
"That's actually what I was going to tell you. Embry has a work thing he needs to get back."
"I'm gonna miss you," Caleb said hugging her. He kissed her cheek before they started walking back towards us. The kiss was quick, more like a peck but I had never felt more hurt in my life. We said our goodbyes and headed towards the airport. Changing our tickets to stand bye was as hard as I thought it was going to be. And we only had to wait for a few hours before we were sitting on a plane. Unfortunately we weren't lucky to get business class seats. Mila sat in the middle seat while I had the aisle. As the plane slowly taxied down the runway, I let out a shallow breath. I thought it would get easier but I was still scared. Suddenly I felt her hand slip into mine. She brought it up to her mouth and gently kissed it.
"Trust me Embry," she whispered as she sat her head on my shoulders. She breathed slow and deep and I found myself matching her breaths. I wasn't scared anymore. I was calm. I settled against the chair and waited for takeoff. Mila's slowly drug her fingers across my knuckles, keeping me calm. I thought about something that Billy had mentioned before at one of the bonfires. The imprint is a bond that is unbreakable. Every wolf is incomplete until they meet their imprint. The wolf is to be whatever their imprint needs them to be. They will feel what the other feels; happiness, joy, sorrow, fear, pain. The wolf and imprint are one and the same. I was calm because Mila was calm. I really did need her in my life.
As much as it was going to hurt me, I had to let Bree go. She didn't work and I would never find this with anybody else. I knew it would be tricky getting Mila to fall for me and leave Caleb. They had way more history than me and Bree did. But as long as I tried and Mila made the decision everything would work out fine. The plane started to take off. My fingers dug into the arm rest and Mila's hand. She lifted her head and kissed my cheek.
"We'll be fine Embry. Trust me." And just like that everything was perfect.
