~When she's sleeping on the sofa,
When she's laying in her Sunday best,
When she's turning over Friday,
I could swear I'm sleeping less and less...
And the ocean's getting warmer,
And California's on her mind,
Los Angeles is tired, but we always seem to feel alright,~
Normani cleared her throat, "yeah," she nodded, "yeah, she's happy." Normani wasn't lying, Lauren IS happy, as happy as she could be, that she wasn't sure of.
Camila's eyes remained on her red wine as she swished it around some more and took another sip, "good." Her despondent brown eyes finally meeting her best friend's, "that's all I ever wanted for her," her eyes becoming glossy as she tried with all the self-restraint possible to hold back the sadness from coming through, "even if it's not with me, I just want her to be happy." She played with the rim of her glass.
Normani reached across the table, flashing a tenderhearted smile, squeezing her hand.
Camila batted her lashed, shaking her feelings off and finished her red wine, "anyways," she mustered up the best smile she could, "well now that I'm back, I'm planning an art exhibition for my photos in Malibu at my new house. This has nothing to do with our friendship, this is completely about business and you know that my passion for photography," she paused in thought.
LAUREN.
She swallowed hard, "my passion for photography is ALMOST the single, most important thing in this world to me," her brown eyes staring directly at her best friend. "I want your firm to head the event." She smiled fondly.
"Mila, are you serious? This is huge!" She got up and walked the very short distance to hug the younger girl. "Ahhh! Thank you!"
"Like I said, nothing to do with our friendship Mani, I know what you can do and you're amazing. You're PR Firm is one of the best in California if NOT THE best." She smiled at her best friend. "And I'm going to need the best because the event is in three days."
Normani sat back down, "three days! You're crazy!"
"Yes, yes I am." She chuckled, "like I said, you're the best, you'll make it happen."
"You and you're impulsiveness, it's one of the reasons I love you." Normani smiled, "three days, you got it!"
"Will you extend an invite to the girls," her brown eyes a little hesitant, maybe that was asking too much, "it'd be nice to see everyone, I haven't seen Dinah and Ally for awhile now."
"Yeah, of course." She knew exactly WHY Camila looked the way she did when she asked that question. "I'll definitely let them know, I'll let Lauren know too."
Camila simply mouthed a THANK YOU.
***Normani's House, Redondo Beach, CA 3PM***
They were outside in the veranda, enjoying lunch and the magnificent California weather. "Thanks for coming on such short notice." Normani said placing the pitcher of iced tea and plate of vanilla wafers on the table they all sat around.
"Yeah of course!" Ally said taking a bite of vanilla wafer.
"What's the big news anyways?" Dinah asked excitedly as she poured herself a glass of ice tea.
"Well as you all know," Normani's eyes drifted to the green-eyed girl across from her, then to the other two girls, "Mila's back and she's planning an art exhibition at her home in Malibu, she asked that my PR Firm head the event." She said excitedly, "this is HUGE for my firm guys!"
"Congrats Mani!" Both Dinah and Ally said in unison.
"I'm happy for you Mani, you deserve it." The porcelain skin girl meant every word but she couldn't help but feel a twinge in her heart.
"When's the event?" Dinah asked.
"Actually, it's this Sunday." She answered letting out a breath.
"That's like in two days!" Ally said wide-eyed.
Lauren chuckled; "two days?" she shook her head, "leave it to Camz to execute an event in two days, impulsive, always has been, always will be."
***Flashback 6 Years Ago***
~But I won't...
No I won't...
No I won't...
Cause she's already out the door,
She's already out of here
She's already gone away...already gone away...~
Camila sat at the kitchen counter as she scrolled through her laptop, looking over photos she had taken the last few days. Her bright brown eyes in full view of the living room and she could feel her lips pull to her eyes at the perfect vision in front of her. Her pearly whites making as appearance as she scanned her girlfriend, sleeping on the sofa, her book on her chest as it rhythmically pumped up and down as she breathed.
Camila closed her laptop and made her way to the sofa, "baby," she whispered kissing the very beautiful, porcelain skin girl softly on her lips.
"Hmm," Lauren flashed her a lazy smile.
"I wanna take you somewhere."
"Right now? It's raining." She said tiredly.
"Yes, right now."
They hopped in the car as Camila drove and Lauren had no idea where they were going, but that didn't matter to her. The younger brunette had always been impulsive and she wouldn't change that about her; she loved it.
They parked into a residential area as Camila led the way down some steps leading to the beach.
"This is beautiful Camz." She said running towards the water as the rain gently drizzled down.
"I found this spot the other day while taking scenic photos." She smiled, her heart dissolving in her chest as the older brunette splashed around in the water.
Camila pulled her Nikon D5300 camera out and looked into the view finder, examining every inch of the green-eyed girl who was slightly turned at an angle that only showed her profile, her hair blowing from the breeze as she turned her face skyward, letting the rain drop on her face gently as the water made it's way to her feet.
~SNAP~
The younger girl made her way to towards the older brunette, wrapping her arms around her from behind.
She tilted her had back as Camila kissed the side of her neck, "Lo."
She kissed her cheek, "Yes?"
"I Love you."
~When I'm coming over Sunday
And I think about you all the time,
I wonder what you're doin
I wonder why you never cry,
When Boston's always raining,
And we never ever seemed alive,
I sung about you once now, I guess I might as well~
***End of Flashback***
"She certainly is." Normani agreed, "anyways, Mila wanted me to ask you guys to come to her art exhibit and well, you know it's my event too so it would mean a lot to both of us."
"Yeah." Ally nodded.
"We wouldn't miss it." Dinah chimed in.
The two girls' said their goodbyes and left.
Lauren was still sitting in the veranda, "hey, you okay?" Normani asked.
"I'm fine, I just don't think I'm going to make it on Sunday."
Normani nodded, "I understand, it's not a big deal," walking back inside the house.
***Art Exhibition, Camila's House, Malibu CA 8PM***
Lauren had been in her car for about thirty minutes now still contemplating whether or not she was going inside. She didn't plan on coming, but she found herself getting in her car and driving and now she's HERE, but she still had no idea what in the world she was doing.
"Wow Mani, this place looks amazing!" Ally beamed.
"Thank you." Normani said proudly.
"Wow, this house is absolutely gorgeous." Dinah took another look around, "all this for little Mila, so proud of her."
"Where is Mila? We haven't seen her all night." Ally asked.
"She doesn't like to make an appearance until the photo information segment is done. She doesn't like her presence to take away from her work." Normani said to the two girls, " and there's the director now, after he speaks she'll make her appearance and begin chitchatting with the crowd. She's really excited to see you guys!"
~But I won't...
No I won't...
No I wont...
Cause I'm already out the door,
I'm already out of here
I've already gone away...already gone away...~
Lauren made her way into the house just as the director began to speak. "Can I have everyone's attention? Thank you all for attending, at this time I'd like to ask if anyone has any questions in regards to the centerpieces. He pointed towards the main wall of the room, which had two photos hanging which were decent sizes, but the centerpiece was huge, it took up most of the wall.
An attendee raised her hand as Lauren made her way closer to the crowd, but she stopped under the arch hallway so she wouldn't be seen, almost as if incognito. "Yes Ms.?" The director turned his attention to the attendee.
"That centerpiece is majestic, can you tell us more about it?"
Camila watched the crowd from the second floor, where she could observe the crowd and the happenings downstairs without being seen, wanting all the focus on her work and not the artist.
"Why yes," the director responded as Lauren's eyes narrowed towards the photo on the wall, almost as if she had tunnel vision and that's all she could see. "This is one of Miss Cabello's earlier works, taken about six years ago. Now this piece of work is very rare as it was taken before Miss Cabello started her professional career. This is the first time she's ever had it displayed as it holds a lot of sentiment to her." Lauren could feel her heart pounding in her chest as he continued to speak. "This photo was taken at an undisclosed beach location here in California. The main subject is of a girl, nineteen years of age. As you can see from the photo she has her head tilted towards the sky, letting the rain caress her skin; this photo is a representation of life and young love as Miss Cabello has described it," Lauren's breathing quickened as tears began forming in her eyes, "and although this photo is in black and white and doesn't clearly show the girl's face, Miss Cabello has disclosed that she has porcelain skin and beautiful green eyes. This," he pointed at the girl in the picture, "has always been Miss Cabello's favorite muse, her inspiration. Like I said, this is a rare photo and has never been published before."
"That was beautiful," the attendee spoke, "I'll take it!"
Lauren couldn't hold back the tears as she made her way down another hallway, she wasn't quite sure where she was headed but she needed to get out of there. She found herself in the balcony, grasping onto the stone rails, crying.
"Lauren." The green-eyed girl's eyes remained on the ocean as she heard light footsteps getting closer. "I didn't think you were coming."
The older brunette slowly turned around, trying to control her breathing as her watery green eyes met bright brown ones. She hadn't seen Camila in four years and she wasn't sure whether she was happy or angry. She just knew that she was overwhelmed with emotions she hasn't had for a long time and she SHOULDN'T be feeling this way, period.
"Well, I wasn't planning on it." she wiped her tears from her face. "That photo, that's me." Her voice cracking, "and what the director said in there…"
"It's all true, I meant every word of it." The younger girl quickly closed whatever gap there was between them, grabbing Lauren's arms, her brown orbs not once straying away from glossy green ones.
"What are you doing here Camila?" Lauren was in pain, it was clear.
"I-I-I," it's always been hard for the younger girl to express herself. "I wanted to see you, I came back for you." She confessed as tears streaked down her face.
"You wanted to see me? You came back for ME?" her tone sharp as she let out a puff of air, "it's been four years and not once did you ever look back, not once!"
"Lauren, I love you. I don't know what else to say." She said let out as she sobbed, grabbing the porcelain skin girl on her arm as she grasped at her own blouse near her heart. "I love you."
"No, you can't just disappear for four years and tell me you love me." She took a step back, tears flowing freely from her smoky green eyes, "it doesn't work that way!" She shook her head, "this was a mistake, I should've never come here."
Lauren hastily made her way back into the house, towards the front door, not once taking a look back.
~Well I'm already out the door
She's already out of here
I've already gone away...already gone away...
Don't look back, Don't look back~
