Chapter 54
Ky's POV
I laughed as my hair tickled my neck as it bounced up and down, my feet following the same movement as it tapped against his knees, I nestled my chin on his shoulder just as the figures came into view with a mass of stone as their backdrop.
Just as we reached the stone outhouse, greeted by an emerald eye roll, Ron let go of my legs letting me dangle momentarily from his neck until I let go and made the tiny descent to the ground.
"Ha!" Ron laughed, turning to his siblings that just reached us, his face red from a fusion of firewhiskey and physical exhaustion, "Pay up!"
George grumbled, pulling a few coins out of his pocket as Ginny jumped off his back, hitting him on the shoulder, "What's with the death grip? Did you want to rip my bleeding legs off!"
Her brother scoffed, "You should talk, were you trying to choke me!" He massaged his neck for emphasis as Ginny rolled her eyes as she walked back to Mi, Harry and Fred who were sitting at variable heights considering their mismatched butt rests.
"Brother, don't tell me little Won Won beat you?" Fred was balancing precariously on an upturned cauldron, his ginger locks smashed against the back wall of the Weasley's outhouse turned broom shed as he seemed to be looking up at the night's sky.
"It's not my fault Ginny's fatter than Ky that she slowed me down."
"I happen to weigh less than Ky!" Ginny shouted.
"That's not what my back says!" George grabbed his sister in a headlock before she could retaliate, ruffling her hair and pulled her up from her seat next to Mi on the wooden bench, the brunette witch glared at the pair as their antics jerked her elbow and disrupted her texting.
"Well it is your fault for thinking you can beat Team Kyron in piggyback rides! Ky and I once beat Dean and Parvarti in a race from the first to the SEVENTH floor! I'm talking stairs!"
Ron added in boasting as he drained the last of the firewhisky and gulped it down, throwing the empty bottle into the empty orchard. Harry smiled as his best friend grabbed me around the shoulders and pull me to his side, "You think we should enter competitions. Maybe we can win some gold."
"Yes, because being able to run across a field with a person on your back is such an achievement," Mi slowly looked away from her phone and up at Ron with a smirk, "They should write sonnets about you."
"Yeah let's see team Kyron take on team... Geor...Georgini in a real competition! Like quidditch." Ginny exclaimed as George finally let up on her and stole her spot next to Mi, "We'll kick your asses in quidditch."
Ron scoffed as I rolled my eyes at Ginny, "Ky maybe a pathetic quidditch player-"
"Hey!" I elbowed him and it only made him laugh harder.
"But I'm good enough for the both of us. Did you not see that goal-"
Everyone groaned as Ron began reciting one of his many great saves, George grumbled to his feet and pulled Fred up and let him lean on him knowing that his brother couldn't walk let alone apparate, "We better go, and you lot better sneak back inside before mum comes looking!"
He walked towards the apparition spot shouting his goodbye, "Night you lot. Ginny?"
Ginny looked up at her brother, expectantly and he smirked, "Go on a diet!"
Ron's barks of laughter blocked out the profanities that spilled out of Ginny's mouth as I crossed over to Harry and he pulled me onto his lap. His chin fell on my shoulder and I rested my hands on his as they locked in front of my waist.
"Godric Mione you ever going to put that bell phone down!"
Ginny snorted as Ron took Fred's seat, "It's not a bell phone idiot, it's a cell phone."
He glared at his giggling sister, "Sorry I'm not dumb enough to take Muggle Studies to know that!"
"HEY!" Ginny snapped but Mi already cut in,
"We should get to bed! George is right; Mrs Weasley will come looking eventually."
"Fine," Ginny spat, still annoyed at her brother, "Let's at least have one more... where's the bottle?"
Ron shrugged, "I finished it like five minutes ago."
"Must you be an endless vacuum that consumes all my things! It's just like yesterday-"
"Oh not the cheese cake again!" Ron moaned to his feet as Ginny shot up as well.
"You KNEW that was my piece! You heard mum say it but NO-"
"Here Gin." I felt his lips move at my ear as he spoke, his hand held out to the redhead, a plastic cup in it, "I won't finish it, go on have it."
I knew he was just trying to stifle the fight but a pang of jealousy slithered up my spine.
Ginny's eyes flickered to mine momentarily and her glare fell, "It's OK Harry."
"No, no, I insist. I've had too much anyway." I could hear the smile in his voice and I adjusted my position on his lap so I had something to distract myself with.
"Oh go on, take it!" Ron spat, "Where is this sudden shyness coming from? Afraid of sharing the same cup with him but swapping spit is perfe..." Ron stopped himself midsentence and his ruddy expression drained as everyone stilled, even the little taps on Mi's phone stopped. "Fuck. I'm..."
"A fucking idiot." Ginny spat and turned on her heel, walking to the house. Ron looked apologetically at Harry and I.
"I-"
"Let's go Ronald." Mi grabbed him and pulled him to the house, tossing a concerned look at me before they became mere figures in the distance.
The wind was picking up from what was a still night and I looked up at the sky, trying to forget Ron's words. Just after we passed the last two weeks incident free, Harry, Ginny and I being able to cohabit not just the same house but the same dinner table and same company... I was even sleeping in her room... As much as I loved spending time with everyone, especially Agnes... I knew this was a bad idea.
"Ky...I..." I felt his chest on my back, hard much like the rock he was sitting on yet distinctly different in the manner in which it trembled as he took a deep breath. "I-"
He didn't continue his sentence as I captured his lips, rising momentarily but never breaking the kiss as I resettled on his lap, my chest to his as his hand slipped under my shirt, his fingers enticing my back into spans of Goosebumps.
"Ky- oh fuck." I stilled at the familiar voice as Harry scrambled to his feet, completely forgetting me as I fell onto the floor.
"Godric, Ky!" He reached to pull me up and then faltered, glancing to the left at Linus and Len as if waiting for permission to touch me. Linus' back was to us as Len's upper lip twitched as he fought to keep a straight face.
"You had your hand up her shirt a moment ago and NOW you ask permission to touch her?"
Harry quickly turned away from the amused glint in Len's hazel eyes and the glare Linus was giving him, and pulled me to my feet. I dusted myself, tossing Harry an annoyed glare considering he let go of me as if I was contagious and turned the look on Len.
The accusation thawed out quickly as it landed on his face and I couldn't help the smile breaking through, in the dark night his eyes glowed as if a feline stilled to pounce, it floated towards accompanied by a spans of teeth and I felt his arms about me and I returned the embrace. It was strange; we were both so different, physically and emotionally. He was more battered and bruised, unkempt and ready for battle yet hugging Len felt just like it did when I was five.
I peeked over Len's bulging shoulder and caught the soft stare, his face basking in the lamp nearby, always lighter in complexion than our brother with soft skin that retained his youthfulness, his face was now spattered with little scars, facial hair and a hardness to it that had little to with its texture. Although, I could tell taking over from Silvain and Selina was an improvement from constantly fighting Palbei, for one thing none of his scars were fresh.
Len let go and I looked expectantly at Linus but he didn't budge, his lips in a tight line and his eyes staying far away from Harry.
"Well..." I shrugged, stepping a fraction closer to my boyfriend who seemed to have turned to stone all together, "Harry and I are back together."
"I should bloody well hope so." Linus bit out, "Or is that a scene you act out with boys that you AREN'T 'together' with!" He still didn't look at Harry, placing every essence of his scorn on me and I rolled my eyes.
"Well, let's call this even then shall we?" His brows furrowed at my smirk and his eyes dilated as he realised what I was getting at... "Christmas break... my fifth year... Grimm-"
"Yes, yes!" He snapped as Len laughed, looking between the two of us in inquisition, "It's quite not the same thing though." Linus threw in stubbornly, lifting his chin up obstinately.
"Of course not!" I chuckled, "For one thing Harry and I are fully clothed and we're not shagg-"
My words were transformed into laughter as Linus' eyes seemed to pop out of his head.
"I meant because Agnes and I were ENGAGED!" He growled, looking at Len for help but finding nothing but amusement in his brother's face to compensate him. Linus stilled suddenly and I glanced around the empty orchard, stepping nearer to Harry and preparing for an attack but nothing came. When I turned back to Linus his eyes were crinkled into a mere slit of suspicion and his head cocked to the side, "Shagging." He breathed and I felt Harry step away from me as Linus' eyes finally fell on him, "Is that what you two been doing?" Linus' voice was so soft it was a wonder how we heard it.
"No! We-"Harry gasped and I elbowed him stepping forward.
"It's none of your business!" I snapped, "I didn't go around asking you what you were doing when Nessie stayed over all the time!"
Linus' eyes grew large as Len barked with laughter, "YOU DID! You insisted on sleeping NEXT to me when she was over! You pretended like you had nightmares, one time you faked a break in!"
I rolled my eyes, "Are we really going to bring up things that happened when I was like five?"
"You were twelve." He gasped, looking at Len, "You probably would still be doing it if you didn't go off to Hogwarts!"
I pouted, "Well I can hear how relieved you are that I'm off at Hogwarts." I sniffed, "You don't even miss me do you. As long as you get to have sleepovers with Nessie."
Li scoffed, "Yes, yes I like having sleepovers with my WIFE! And don't try that guilt shit with me! Reverse psychology nonsense! You." Linus turned to Harry and I growled.
"For heaven's sake Linus, you know his bloody name!"
He either ignored me or was too focused on staring Harry down, "Prohibere fecundation OR redde immotilatio?"
Harry's green eyes were like trembling emeralds in the night as he glanced at me and I sighed, opening my mouth but stopping as no sound emitted. I opened it a second time but to no avail yet again, and I stomped my feet, the only way I could relay my anger at being magically silenced save punching my brother in the face, which was looking very tantalizing an option right about now.
"You heard me. Prohibere fecundation OR redde immotilatio?" In contrast to Harry's emerald orbs, Linus' blue hue was steady and severe as Harry glanced at me again.
"Er... I don't... erm... the first one?"
Linus' eyes found mine and I silently sighed, "HE DOESN'T EVEN KNOW THEM!"
"OH WHO CARES!" I was partially shocked by the sound of my voice but wasted no time in stepping forward and returning my brother's glare, "He has enough time to..." I swallowed as Linus cocked his head, a glint of hope in his eyes as it slowly sunk in that my 'innocence' was still intact by Harry's lack of knowledge on protective spells. "And it's Immotilatio, everyone knows that!"
I shrugged, blowing a strand of my hair away from my face as Len smirked behind Linus' shoulder, highly entertained by all of this.
'Linus."
I felt his arm around my shoulder, steadier than it was five seconds ago and I glanced up, catching his neck which was darkened by the prickly fine hairs that crept up, enjoying their last night before their beheading. Sometimes I didn't know whether I liked Harry better cleanly shaven or with a little five o clock shadow. I did enjoy the texture; the contrast against my own always made my skin prickle in such an exciting way. But then when he was clean shaven my lips on his skin, scented with aftershave and smooth...
I audibly sighed and Harry glanced down at me quickly, his lips twitching at the look on my face and he pulled me closer into him as he turned back to Linus whose eyes were clamped on me, buzzing thoughts whizzing behind the windows of his soul and Len ceased to find the amusement in the whole scenario.
"I know it seems like I'm unprepared. But the truth is, I've been waiting for Ky... well for my whole life really. I never knew who she was or where she was but this feeling... I appreciate this feeling. I appreciate Ky. The last thing I would do is disrespect her. I may not be the-"
"Harry." He stopped as Linus stepped forward and raised his hand and I watched Harry's Adam's apple bob but his posture relaxed as my brother's hand rested on Harry's left shoulder, "That's enough. I'm not here to interrogate you."
I scoffed and he glanced down, his dark brows arched over his tired eyes, "Oh how I hope your child gives you enough stress to make you grey by the age of thirty."
I rolled my eyes, "I, just like Nonno, would be able to rock grey hair."
I laughed as the apparent severity of the situation died down at Harry's previous confession and suddenly I wanted to have this conversation done before my brother's good humour waned.
I ducked under Linus' outstretched arm and turned, walking backwards in the direction of the house, opposing the wind as it flung my hair forward and disturbed my vision, "Race you to the house."
I spun around and began pelting forward as I heard Len chuckle and his heavy footsteps at my side. I glanced backwards at Linus' exasperated face and Harry's amused one as they walked, side by side in my wake and my smile widened.
"Ha, you lost! Now whatever shall I extract as my winnings! Maybe a lifetime of servitude!"
Len laughed as he pushed the kitchen door open and I smiled as Linus and Harry approached, their dark hair both bustling in the late night swirls of wind as they walked towards me, engrossed in conversation much more pleasant in nature, evidently seen by the smiles on their face.
I leaned against the door as Len rested his head on my head, his shoulder at my back as his hand found my left shoulder, and I knew, just like my brother did, that I did not lose.
Just as my eyes found glistening green orbs, bright with laughter above a mischievous grin I couldn't help the blush on my face and I was grateful Len couldn't bear witness to the soppiness of it all...
I took in a deep breath of night air just as Linus reached me, tossing me over his shoulder and threatening to throw me from Ron's bedroom window if I didn't get to bed as Harry leaned against the opened door frame, a sliver of lunar light casting his face in ethereal luminescence as he watched me being carried away by my brother, his only help a wink and a cocky grin at my silent pleas of help.
And just like that I knew, I was hands down, without a doubt... the Winner.
