Seventeen-Embry

After she dropped that bombshell we went back in the house. She cried and tried to talk about it. I just sat there, hearing what she was saying but not paying attention. I didn't even know how this happened. I always wore a condom. Bree was still going on about how scared she was.

"I thought you were on birth control."

"You can still get pregnant on birth control Embry. The only sure way is not having sex. And up until a few weeks ago we were having it…on a regular basis."

I took a deep breath and walked over to the couch. I sat down on it and ran my hands over my head. This new couch wasn't even comfortable. "What are we going to do Bree?"

"What does that mean?" she asked me.

"Bree we can't have a kid right now or ever for that matter. I don't even like kids!"

"I've seen you with kids Embry. You're great," Bree stood up and walked over to me. She sat down next to me, one hand on my leg the other on my back rubbing it.

"I'm great with kids because they aren't my own Bree. I can send them back when they start crying or when I don't want to be bothered anymore. I don't want kids. I've never wanted kids."

Bree pulled her hands away like I had slapped her or something. She sniffled again which meant she was about to cry again.

"Embry I can't believe you're saying this. I mean I just told you I'm pregnant with your child and you say you never wanted kids," she said. Her voice was thick with tension.

"Bree I told you this from the beginning."

"Yea but I thought you had changed your mind about it."

"Just like you thought I needed a new couch. How you thought I would like that ugly ass color behind my TV. Like you thought we needed to remodel and add on. How you thought I would be ok with you telling my mom that we were getting married."

"That's what people do when they have a baby Embry. They get married and make a family."

"Wait a minute you said you found out today but you talked to my mom before. Why did you tell her we were getting married?"

"I didn't tell her you asked. She just came over and was surprised to see me painting. I told her that I was making this my home since we were going to get married. As far as the couch if you would have been in the store with me, instead of wherever you were you could have helped pick it out. And what is wrong with the color I picked? It matches the throw pillows on the couch!"

"Orange is the one color I hate Bree! All the colors in the world and you picked the one I hate."

"I didn't know!" Bree yelled at me.

"Yes you didn't know. There's a lot you don't know about me. And you're never going to know it either."

"That's because you won't tell me. You don't tell me anything."

Bree leaned back on the couch and started crying in her hands. I could never stand to see anybody cry so I scooted closer. She didn't stop crying but put her head on my shoulder. We stayed like that, not saying anything, until she finally fell asleep. I put her in the bed and was going to run when she woke up.

"Embry stay with me please," she whispered. I let out a sigh and took my normal spot in the bed with her. I didn't sleep at all that night. The next morning Bree woke up and made breakfast. I wasn't in the mood to eat, for a change. I threw on my uniform for the shop and was heading out the door when Bree called out to me.

"My appointment is at 3. I'm going to see Dr. Mullins in Forks."

I didn't say anything, instead just shutting the door. When I got to the shop Jake and Quill were sitting in the office.

"I've got imprint trouble," I said sitting down. I didn't bother to waste time with good morning. Both Jake and Quill had imprinted. It was either the two of them or Sam that you could talk to when you needed help. Of course they imprinted on a bay and toddler so maybe they weren't the best ones to talk to. They had been there for their imprints since pretty much the beginning. But both Jake and Quill had instances where they could have lost their imprints. Nessie was almost lost to Jake by the Volturi and Claire's parents took her away from Quill. They didn't fully understand imprinting and the year they were gone almost killed Quill literally.

"What's up," Quill asked.

"Last night I took Mila out. I told her how I liked her and would be anything she needed me to do."

"So you took the easy way of telling her you imprinted," Jake cut in.

"I couldn't tell her everything right away you know. Besides I hadn't broken up with Bree yet."

"So you confessed your love to Mila and you were still with Bree?" Quill asked cutting in. I knew how crazy it was so I didn't even respond with an answer. Jake let out a whistle and Quill chuckled. I could tell they both disagreed with how I did it. So I knew my next statement was going to really get a reaction.

"Haven't…actually," I said. Neither of them said anything but I could see the gears grinding. Quill was the first one to get it . HE jumped up from his seat and started pacing.

"So you mean to tell me… well us," he pointed back and forth between him and Jake "That you asked Mila to be your girlfriend and you still have a girlfriend?! Dude, are you crazy?!"

"I was going to end it Bree but-" I stopped talking and shook my head.

"But what?" Jake asked me.

"She's pregnant."

"WHAT?!" they both yelled loudly. They were both talking fast and over one another. I couldn't understand what they were saying. I kept asking them to calm down but they couldn't hear me.

"What is going on in here?" Leah yelled as she stepped into the office. All conversation stopped. Leah sat her keys down on the desk and looked at all three of us. Jake and Quill looked everywhere but her eyes. I just kept looking at the floor.

"What the hell is going on?" she asked. "I'm not gonna ask again."

"It's not my story to tell," Jake said. Quill held his hands up and shook his head no. Leah grabbed my ear and yanked me out the chair. She didn't let go of my ear until we were standing outside.

"What the hell did you do Embry?" she asked me. Her voice was tense and I could tell she was mad. I really didn't want to go into details again but I did. I told Leah all about the date and the conversation with Bree. Her reaction was nothing like Jake and Quill's. Besides yelling in shock she slapped me. Hard.

"How could you do that to Mila?"

"Do what? You think I went home and got Bree pregnant? Bree's been pregnant before Mila even got here."

"You know that's not what I'm talking about Embry. You shouldn't have said anything to her until you had this Bree situation dealt with."

"I know but I had to let her know how I felt Leah. I couldn't just keep showing up at her house and not tell her. Plus Ava already knew." Leah's eyes grew big at the mention of her best friend.

"Don't worry I didn't tell her. She guessed and she swore she wouldn't tell anybody."

"How do you even know Bree's pregnant?" Leah asked.

"She told me."

Leah raised an eyebrow. I shook my head. Bree wouldn't lie about being pregnant just to keep me in her life would she? No she wouldn't do that. Leah must have seen my disbelief.

"I'm just saying. Girls will say anything to stop a man from leaving."

"You didn't stop Sam," I blurted out. As soon as the words left my mouth I wanted to take them back. Leah rolled her eyes and took a deep breath. Her arms were shaking but quickly stopped. She had some gotten some amazing self-control over the years.

"I'll give you that one because you're losing your mind. But if you mention Sam to me again I will hurt you. Did you have a pee on a stick? In front of you?"

"No but we're going to the doctor later today."

Leah was about to say something else to me when Collin and Seth came pulling up. Leah left me standing there and walked into the shop. I spoke to the guys then phased and went running. I wanted to run past Mila's put instead ran the perimeter five times. By the time Bree and I headed out to Forks I wasn't feeling any better. The entire ride was silent; the waiting in the lobby was silent. The lobby was small and there were only six other people in the office with us. Two couple sat on our right and two single women sat across from us. The lady leaned over and started talking to Bree.

"Is this you and you're husbands first?" she asked.

"We're not married or even sure she's pregnant," I cut in. The lady's face became beet red and she sat back in her chair. Two seconds later Bree was called to the back. I followed Bree down the short hallway.

"I just need you to unbutton your pants for me. This is going to be a little cold," she said as she squeezed some blue jelly on Bree's stomach. The huge white piece went on her stomach and she tapped on the keyboard. The screen lit up and she moved it side to side then up and down. After a few minutes she tapped the screen again.

"And there's baby," she said with a smile. She turned the screen to face us. There surrounded by white was a small circle of black. She tapped the keyboard again. "You look like your just shy of seven weeks. Congratulations you two."

She turned the screen back to face her and tapped her keyboard again. Bree grabbed my hand and squeezed. I looked down and saw a huge smie on her face. She was so happy and there i was feeling like my life was ending.

Now that I knew I had to tell Mila. When I walked up Ava was walking on the porch.

"Good job last night Embry," she said as she stepped in. The aroma of food hit my nose and then I heard the most angelic sound.

"I didn't know you were coming over. You never called me back." Mila said throwing her arms around me. She still smelled the same. I took a deep breath and wrapped my arms around her.

"I broke my phone last night. I didn't get another one yet."

"You and Jake get into a fight or something? You look like you lost your best friend," she said laughing. I wanted to laugh but I couldn't. Mila looked at me confused then grabbed my hand.

"Foods done I'm going to talk to Embry," she yelled over her shoulder. She drug me outside and started walking. When I saw she was going towards the foot trail I stopped her.

"I don't want to go up there." I said quietly. That was my place and it was filled with happy memories. She had happy memories. I didn't want this to be what she remembered Third Cliff by. I turned around and took a deep breath.

"Ok but Embry what's wrong? You look like you just lost your best friend. What is it?"

I turned around and before I lost my nerve blurted it out. "My girlfriend is pregnant."

Mila stood, staring at me, not saying anything, and then she started laughing.

"I'm sorry it sounded like you said your girlfriend is pregnant."

"I did Mila."

"But you don't have a girlfriend. You told me you weren't talking to your girlfriend on the River Walk."

"I wasn't talking to my girlfriend. That was my mom."

Mila stared at me. She folded her hands and put them on her lips.

"That's why you never said you wanted to be whatever I wanted you to be. And here I was thinking that you were some sweet charming guy who didn't want to pressure me into anything. But you're not. You asked me to be your girlfriend when you already had one. You tired putting it all on me and saying I could decide what we were but you already had somebody!" she yelled out the last part.

"Mila I'm sorry-"

"I trusted you Embry."

"Mila you can still trust me!" I said stepping closer to her.

"Don't come near me!" she yelled "Just stay the hell away from me." she turned around and started walking away. I couldn't let her leave. Not like this. I grabbed her arm and swung her around to face me. My lips pressed against hers. Her body was stiff but within a few seconds I could feel it loosen. Her lips slowly opened. We were going to be fine, I could feel it. Her eyes were closed and her hands landed on my arms. Mila took in a gasp and grabbed my arm tighter. I started to smile when Mila pulled away from me. Her arm swung around from behind her back and landed square in my chest. I heard bones crunch and instantly felt the pain in my hand. Mila screamed out in pain and grabbed her hand.

"Let me look at it," I asked her.

"Embry just leave me alone. It wasn't enough you broke my heart but you had to break my hand to?" by now tears were falling down her face. I took a step forward and she held her good hand out.

"STOP!" she yelled at me. I stopped and watched her turn around and run away. She was so mad she didn't realize she was going the wrong way. I knew she didn't want to see me but I couldn't let her get lost. I ran after her.

"Mila at least let me make sure you get home. This is the wrong way."

She stopped running and leaned over gasping for air. I didn't know if she was crying from me or the fact that hand could possibly be broken. I tried to touch her but she swatted my hand away.

"Don't…touch…me…Embry….take…me…home." she said in between pants. She needed me to take her home so that's what I did. After all the wolf is always what his imprint needs.
