Twenty-Mila

"That's it. We're turning around," Caleb yelled at me. We had been walking for almost two hours, well past the one hundred paces he had given us. And we were no closer to finding Leah. After forty minutes of walking, and not knowing where were going I managed to find Third Cliff. Leah wasn't there though. It took some convincing but I managed to get Caleb to agree to walk with me some more. But it was dark now and even I knew it wasn't a good idea being out in the woods.

"Let's go," I told him as we turned around. It wasn't long before we realized that our logic of walking in a straight line was a terrible idea. We stepped into a clearing and Caleb let out a deep sigh.

"See this is why I told you this was a bad idea! We're lost and worse nobody knows that we're lost."

I looked down at my watch and saw how much time had passed. Ava had to know that we were gone by now. But what if she didn't? Caleb pulled his phone out and tapped the screen.

"This night is getting better and better. I don't have service! When am I going to learn not to go along with everything you say?" He asked. Caleb walked away from me holding his phone up in the air. Almost as if that was going to give him some miracle. As I followed behind him, I wished the Embry was here. He would have known where to go; well he would have never let us walked out alone in the first place. He would have insisted that we stayed home and the Leah was going to be ok. Just like Caleb had, I wouldn't have listened to either of them. But he would have followed us and made sure we got back safe.

"I have a bar," Caleb yelled out. I turned and ran over to where he was standing. I grabbed his phone and started dialing Embry's number. Yes I knew his number by heart. One of the consequences of dialing it but never hitting connect.

"So we meet again," a soft voice called out. As soon as it hit my ears I started to tremble. It was her, but it couldn't be. I grabbed Caleb's arm, forcing him to look at me. "Who the hell-"he said looking at her. She was walking towards us. I was confused as to how I had heard her when she wasn't right next to us.

"Fancy seeing you here again," I said. Caleb stood looking between the two of us confused. I'd moved my hand down to his wrist, hoping he still remembered Spinster. That was the code word his mom came up with back when we were younger. It was her way of telling us when we needed to run and hide from one of her boyfriends.

"I was really sad we were interrupted last time. And I see you have a friend," she said smiling. Caleb turned and looked at me. I knew what he was thinking. Who the hell is this lady and why we are still standing her. In the blink of an eye, she was standing right in front of us. "What the fuck?" Caleb said. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath.

"Who the hell are you?" Caleb asked her. She looked at Caleb and licked her lips.

"I'm Sabrina."

"What do you want?" I asked her in a whisper. Caleb had started taking steps backwards. He had his hand wrapped around my wrist.

"What do I want? Well," she said as she got closer to me. I heard her take a deep breath in "At first I just wanted to play. But then your friends killed Jackson. And since you mean so much to them, it's only right that I take you."

Her icy breath was right by my neck. "Spinster" Caleb yelled before pulling me back towards him. Her hand moved so fast. She grabbed the front of my shirt and yanked us both back to her. With more force than I had ever seen before, she flung Caleb right into a tree. "Caleb!" I screamed out in fear. She had tossed him at least ten feet behind us. She turned and smiled at me.

"Embry!" I screamed out. I had no idea why I was screaming for him. But I had nobody else to call. Every other time I had needed him, he magically showed up. She licked her lips and opened her mouth. When I saw her teeth, I let out the loudest scream I had ever let out before.

"EMBRY!" Suddenly there was a growl, so loud that I wasn't sure what was making the noise. She turned around and whispered, "Not again." I turned and looked past her. I couldn't see anything but I could hear them. With fear in my eyes I heard the howls. It was a wolf, not just one wolf but a pack of wolves. They were huge, larger than any animal I had seen.

The largest one was brown. He stood, his head held high, and his teeth bared. The growl was coming from him. To his left there was another brown one. He was large but not nearly as large as the brown one. The one to the left let out a howl and two other wolves appeared in the clearing. They were both smaller, one was sandy brown. His ran and stood next to the smaller brown one. The gray wolf ran and stood to the right of the big brown one. He growled and snapped his teeth. My eyes got wide when I realized that was the same wolf I had saw in the backyard earlier that day.

Sabrina tightened her grip on my shirt and pulled me in front of her. "Looks like the whole gang is here. Which one of you killed my Jackson?"

I stood watching the entire scene scared out of my mind. She was crazy! Talking to wolves like they could actually answer back. I couldn't stop the tears from falling, I was really scared.

"Sabrina stop!" a voice yelled out. Sabrina turned around with me still in her arms. I screamed out in horror as I watched two other men moving towards us. The more I tried to get away, the tighter it seemed her hold was on me. She had moved her arm from my waist up to my neck. The men moved just as fast as Sabrina did. One was big and looked like he spent all his free time in the gym. The other guy was smaller.

"Sabrina, you can't do this. We have rules here," Muscle head said to her. As soon as he said that I heard a snapping noise from behind us. Sabrina turned us around and hissed at the wolves. The gray wolf stepped up. Sabrina stepped back but pulled me right with her. The sandy brown wolf had run off somewhere.

"Sabrina listen to me, let her go." Muscle head stepped up. Sabrina hissed at him and pulled me tighter. She slowly ran her tongue across my cheek. It was cold and clammy.

"You hear that Emmett?" Sabrina asked "Do you smell her?"

"Sabrina, let her go," the man who I now knew as Emmett said. The other man stood silently. He looked me in my eyes and I suddenly felt calm. I wasn't scared anymore. I stopped fighting and dropped my hands from her coat covered arm.

"They took Jackson from me. It's only right," she said quietly. She moved her arm away from my neck. The fear that had left instantly came back. I didn't know what happened but I heard growls and felt myself being thrown around. I looked up and saw one of the wolves running towards me. He came over whining. His nose was cold but that didn't stop him from nudging me. I smiled and reached out to touch him, sucking in air as I lifted my arm. Right before I touched his fur, he turned and ran away.

"Come back," I whispered. I didn't want to be left alone.
