Veggie Vampires?

Chapter Summary: Washington is rainy. Duh. But Luna's heard about a special breed of vampires in the area and she's determined to find them and ask them the whereabouts of the Crumple Horned Snorkack.

Harry passed over the credit card that A had set up for them and then turned to the rest of the group. "Where to first?" He asked them.

All eyes turned to Luna. "What?" She asked seemingly startled by their scrutiny.

"Where are we going?" Sherlock asked. "You're the one that planned this trip, Luna," he pointed out. "Surely you know where we're going?"

Luna blinked at him and then shrugged. "Of course I know where we're going," she paused and stared at them. "You mean you forgot? We're going to find the Crumple Horned Snorkack, sillies."

Harry grinned at her and turned back to the rental counter to retrieve the card and sign for it. He wasn't going to step in and end Luna's fun.

Draco groaned and buried his face in his hands. "You mean we're just going to wander around and hope the Snorkack jumps out at us," he asked incredulously. "Bloody wonderful. Great plan, cousin."

Luna blinked her large silver eyes at him and frowned. "That would be stupid," she told him. "We're going to Forks, Washington."

Draco nodded, appeased. "Why Forks?" Flynn asked and rubbed at his forehead. Sometimes talking to Luna gave him a migraine. He adored her, she was funny and sweet and kind but, man, sometimes she was just so…strange.

Luna turned to him and smiled brightly. "To talk to the vampires, of course. Why else would we go to that dinky little town?"

"Vampires?" Flynn squeaked and then cleared his throat. "You mean like 'I vant to suck your blood' vampires? Seriously?"

Luna let out a light laugh and took Harry's elbow to let him lead her to the RV. "Yes and no. They're vegetarians."

Sherlock's eyes lit up and he hurried to walk beside Luna and Harry. "Vegetarian vampires?" He asked. "How do they manage to maintain their blood supply? Are they weakened by the lack of fresh blood? Are they truly afraid of crosses?"

John shook his head in amusement, shouldered the duffle he'd somehow ended up carrying along with his and Sherlock's luggage and followed the trio.

Draco grabbed the shell shocked Flynn and dragged him after the others. "Lu, I don't care what Lockhart taught you. Vampires do not eat salad. Ever."

Luna's laughter drifted over the parking lot. "Of course they don't silly," she called back to him. "Salad would give them a very upset stomach. You have the strangest ideas, Dray."

"What?" Draco squawked. "That was what…you said…Lu? What do you mean? Lu? Luna!"

His only answer was Luna's delighted laughter and a distant roll of thunder.

"Where are we going?" Draco whined and stared out into the falling rain through the windshield. "It looks exactly the same as it did ten minutes ago."

"To the baseball field," Luna replied without a hint of exasperation even though she'd told him fifteen times already. "The thunder covers the sound of them hitting the ball."

"Why can't we wait until tomorrow to visit them?" John asked. "I mean it's not exactly polite to just intrude on their game, is it?"

Luna rolled her eyes. "I don't know where they live, silly." She stared out into the rainy forest for a long moment. "Pull over here, FlynnCarson. We'll have to apparate the rest of the way."

"What?" Draco squawked. "I have no idea where we're going! How am I supposed to apparate to somewhere without even coordinates?"

"Draco," Harry finally growled. "I swear to Merlin if you do not stop whining and complaining I'm going to apparate you to the bottom of the ocean!"

Draco backed up a step and then pouted at Harry. "You're being mean again," he said petulantly. "I hate it when you get mean. People die when you get mean."

Luna patted them both on the shoulder and then grabbed Sherlock's hand. "Just follow my trail," she suggested and then disappeared with a pop.

Draco swallowed and glanced at Harry. "You're a prat, Potter," he said and then gripped Flynn's elbow and popped after his cousin.

"And you're an arse, Malfoy," Harry grumbled and let John take his arm. "Let's go then." The two men popped away.

Reflexes born of a lifetime of fighting and running caused Harry to shield he and John almost before they disapparated. He felt the vibration of the baseball more than saw it hit his shield. He was very glad that he'd cast a solid one. That was no spell. "Hey!" He exclaimed. "What the Hell?"

Luna's laughter was his only answer in the sudden silence. "You know you shouldn't apparate angry, Harrymine," she scolded as glided from the trees to his side. "It always makes you just a little off target."

Harry just grunted and stared at the group of vampires standing across from them. "Well? Lunalove? Didn't you want to ask them something?"

Luna blinked for a moment and then turned to regard the figures that seemed almost to frozen to be real. "Oh. Yes." She nodded and then rushed towards the smallest one. "Alice!" She yelled happily and drew the smaller woman in her arms. "Finally!"

"Luna!" The other girl exclaimed and greeted Harry's wife like a long lost friend. "You're really here!"

The vampires and Harry's group watched the two girls chatter at and over each other for a long moment and then one of the vampires seemed to relax and took a step towards Harry's group. "Hello," he said softly. "I'm Carlise Cullen and this is my family."

Harry met him halfway between the two groups and held out a hand to shake. "Harry Potter and these are friends and family." He tilted his head to the side a bit and grinned sheepishly. "More family than friends actually," he corrected himself. "Pleased to meet you."

Carlise took the young man's warm hand in his own only a little surprised that the human was willing to touch him. The young man didn't flinch at his cold flesh. Interesting. "So," Carlise hesitated and then nodded to himself. "How does your friend know my daughter?"

Harry turned to consider the two girls again. "I don't think my wife does, actually," he said slowly. He turned his gaze back to Carlise. "Tell me, Mr. Cullen…does your daughter know things others don't? Can she sometimes tell you what is going to happen?"

Carlise stiffened a bit but something in those green eyes compelled him to answer truthfully. "Yes."

The young man grinned. "Ah, that makes more sense," he nodded to himself. "My wife is a seer and I'm assuming your daughter is too. Seers are different, you see, they…well, they recognize one another instantly. Never seen it happen but Luna told me about it."

Two of the other vampires seemed to appear on either side of Carlise. "I can't read him, Carlise," the one on the right said. Harry squinted for a moment. He looked so much like Cedric that Harry very nearly backed away from him.

"Neither can I," the blond on the left growled. "It's like he doesn't even exist."

Harry smirked. "That would be because I'm blocking you," he informed them. "Mind readers?" He asked Carlise.

Carlise chuckled. The name the boy had given had finally clicked. "Not exactly," he tilted his head to the side and stared at Harry. "I thought you'd be taller."

Harry scowled. "Why? Why does everyone always say that? Why? It's…it's just…not nice. Lunalove! Lunalove, your vamps are making fun of my height!"

Luna was instantly by his side even as nearly everyone laughed at his ranting. "It's all right, Harrymine," she soothed. "I think you are the perfect height."

Harry buried his face in her neck and nodded. "Sorry," he mumbled but didn't look up.

Carlise cleared his throat. "Are these the visitors you meant, Alice?" He asked, though he was fairly sure they were.

But the girl and Luna shook their heads at the same time. "No," Alice said. "There are others coming. Edward," she told the vampire that looked like Cedric. "Stay with Bella. Close to her. They're coming."

"They're already here," Luna said dreamily.

Harry felt a rush of air against his back and Luna's magic rolling over him. And then all he felt was the ground against his chest and dirt in his mouth.

"I don't think so, you red-eyed demon," Luna's voice was no longer dreamy. He had never heard her so enraged. He hadn't thought that level of anger was possible for his bright and sunny wife.
