Chapter 71

Harry's POV

I turned away from the bed and walked to the door inlaid in the opposite wall, knowing it must be the en suite.

The marble and glass soon became excess in my periphery as I spotted a door that mirrored the one I just exited.

Two entrances?

I crossed the bathroom in curiosity and pushed the door open.

I was once again immobilized in the frame of the door at the site that lay before me. This room was a contrast of colours, bright reds and dark blues with rich wooden surfaces.

I watched as the quidditch players in the posters on the wall ducked in and out of each other's frames, the dark four poster that sat in the centre of the room clad in familiar scarlet drapes.

I moved further in, catching the familiar images of my parents smiling down at me from the frame that sat on the bedside drawer.

My fingers caressed the dark wood panelled writing desk in the corner of the room which was ladened with fresh parchment and ink which made me think of late night essays and silky soft tresses pressed against my shoulder.

A bookshelf hung above the desk, half full with titles such as Michael Turnip: An Aurors Tale and Seeking to be the Best Seeker.

I sprung open the first book and stared at a picture of Michael Turnip, not seeing him at all as my nose burned and my face which felt as dry as a bone crumpled momentarily at the thoughtfulness of it all but with a deep, rasping breath I composed myself and pushed the book back onto the shelf.

I took the two steps to the right which had me facing large glass doors. There was a balcony in this room as well and something told me that just like the bathroom was meant to be shared, so too was the view and everything that came with it.

I stared at the Castle, more visible from this room than the previous and suddenly a calm aura settled upon my skin, similar to the phoenix song which Fawkes had serenaded us all with four days ago, but the only difference was that Fawkes effect worked from within, healing your soul, whilst this feeling numbed you from the outside.

I soon realised that the calming aura was just a heating charm, probably automatically set to activate when the temperature dropped and for one maddening moment I wanted to burst out laughing, but somehow my lips seemed to be immobilised in this stringent set and the moment passed in silence instead.

The silence that followed my words was short lived however as the doors banged open, and the room's occupants clutched once more at distraction, pushing the grief that lingered about us like a melancholic cloud, at bay once again.

"Where is my sister!"

Somehow, even though I have only heard the voice a handful of times, it was extremely familiar to me.

Perhaps it was the sheer pomposity that exuded the arrogance in a way that even the upturned nose and broad shoulders failed to convey.

The room followed Zacharias Smith's entrance with varying levels of interest and I frowned as I saw him stop in front of the bed at the end of Ky's row.

"I should have known." Ginny shook her head as the boy rushed to the side of the now conscious Anna Smith. The girl's sharp brown eyes observed the room with a flourish and I wondered just how long she had been awake and how much she had heard.

"Are you okay? Why is she not being treated!" Snapped Smith, actually glaring at Madam Pomfrey who was still rifling through her potions cabinet. "If this is how you take care of victims-"

"Victims?" Ginny scoffed, "The only thing that bitc-"

"Ginny!" Snapped Mr Weasley and his daughter bit her tongue but it did nothing to appease Smith, he took a large, affronted breath.

"Excuse me!" Smith glared at Ginny as if she were the amalgamation of all that he hated in the world, "My sister was attacked by a death eater!"

"For the last time, I am NOT a death eater!" Smith's glare fell on Liam as he drew the conjecture from his words.

"You... you ATTACKED my SISTER!"

"I didn't attack her-"

In a funny twist of faith Ron and I stepped in front of the boy as Smith made a bee line for him, "Zack! Zack stop! Don't."

Smith turned around at his sisters plea, even though the boy was insufferable you could tell that he genuinely cared for the girl. "Annie, you need to keep quiet. I will handle this."

"You will handle nothing Mr Smith." Professor McGonagall stepped away from Ky and stared at the blonde siblings, "Miss Smith is to stay here and answer to the Ministry as to her involvement in tonight's affairs."

"Involvement?" Smith choked out, "My sister was not involved in any of this and you ALL will be hearing from my father-"

"No, Zack, please." Anna smith slipped out of the bed. She was still in her school uniform, her honey colour tie blending with her long blonde strands as she stepped forward, light brown eyes pleading into McGonagall's, "I swear, I had nothing to do with tonight's events... I wasn't involved-"

"Anna-"

"Don't patronize us Smith. We have a witness that states that both you and Lucan Banner aided a death eater." Hermione's voice appeared passive but I knew it to be anything but, "Denial would only sink you further into the quicksand that is the law. Do not think that the fact that you are underage would help at all, it's not a good time for death eater sympathizers."

"I am not a death eater sympathizer! I didn't even know that Bastian was a death eater! I only realised when he entered the school with those people with the masks. I swear!"

"I suppose we're to believe that Banner forced you to help him them?" Hermione arched one dark brown eyebrow at the girl as Ginny glared at her red-faced, a combination of irritation at her father and anger at the girl in front of her.

"No." The blonde glanced at the unconscious boy next to her, "I wasn't forced, but I was misinformed. Banner told me that Bastian was his cousin and that..." She glanced at me and then looked away uncomfortably. I then realised she had refocused onto Ky, the stare of discomfort slowly morphing into a simmering glare and I protectively stepped to my left and blocked her view of my girlfriend.

She glanced up at me annoyed, "Look, all I wanted to do was get back at Thornton! I didn't know about any death eaters and I didn't want her to get hurt, I just wanted to put her in her place! The way she waltzes around this place like she OWNS it! Minding everybody's business! Like last year-"

"When she stopped you from taking advantage and destroying the self esteem of Angelique Morian!" Hermione took a threatening step forward and Ron mirrored the action, ready to prevent it getting physical as it tended to become when Hermione was particularly peeved.

"She turned the whole school against me! She bald my head last year, do you know that David broke up with me after that and NOBODY would date me afterwards because Ky Thornton had marked me as her enemy." The girl's voice grew high pitched and she seemed to have fully recovered from the stunner.

"Oh please, you're not that special." Ginny quipped with a wrinkled nose.

"Miss Granger. Miss Weasley." Professor McGonagall's warning was so feeble it was laughable, she obviously didn't like the girl but needed to come across as objective, "Continue Miss Smith."

"The last straw was when Liz and Mia stopped talking to me. I had absolutely nobody, until Travis Davis offered me a hand in friendship... he didn't like her too, I didn't know why but he... he..." She glanced back at Banner, "He was the one that came up with the idea for the poster. The one of her half naked."

"You were behind that whole debacle!" Hermione shrieked as my jaw clenched and I quickly sought Ky's hand to help calm my nerves.

"It wasn't just me, it was Travis and Lucan as well! I don't know why but they were more than happy to ruin her social standings but somehow not even that had worked, even though Luke had done an exceptional job on the photos, the school still loved little miss perfect."

Genuine hate exuded the girl and Ginny and Hermione both stepped protectively in the way of Ky, as if the girl's abhorrence might somehow affect Ky's recovery.

"Travis soon got over her; he didn't care to interfere with her so it was up to me and Lucan. Lucan eventually confided in me as to why he disliked her, about his cousin, Bastian, and her going out last year and how she had dumped him for Harry Potter."

She glanced at me and she hastened to elaborate at the disbelief etched on my face, "Luke showed me the pictures of them together! You could see how smitten the boy was and he said that he was now in a deep depression! That he tried taking his own life whilst she carried on like nothing happened, laughing all over the place with Harry Potter."

It was weird the way she kept saying my name as if I wasn't staring right at her, as if she thought the story so often in her head it became a rehearsed recital of the many reasons why she hated Ky Thornton.

"It's not right." She spat bitterly, "David was just the same. Smiling down at Angelique Morian, blind to the world. That's when I realised... she and Angelique had planned this whole thing! Just to get David away from me! It was only fair that I get my revenge and when Lucan said his cousin wanted to see her in person-"

"You arranged to have her kidnapped?" Ginny spat out in disgust.

"No! There was no kidnapping involved, she went down there willingly! All I had to do was wait upstairs for a key, I didn't even know where she was, Lucan only knew. I had no idea his cousin was a death eater; I was just as surprised when I saw them upstairs... fighting... I ran back down... to hide but then Rheines hit me with a stunner." She glared at Liam who looked completely unfazed.

"You think we're supposed to believe that you had no idea that Bastian Blishwick was a death eater?" Ron's voice was level as his hand was nestled in the crook of Hermione's elbow, preventing her from moving forward.

"I swear-"

"That's enough." Smith shot his sister a disapproving look when her voice took on a grovelling texture and stepped in front of her, "My sister has said all that she can on the matter, she has recovered from her attack and we wish to leave. Any further discussion on this matter should be done so in the presence of our father."

"That is fine, Mr Smith." McGonagall's olive green eyes glinted through her glasses as she surveyed the two, "But remember, knowingly or not, your sister has placed innocents of this school at the hands of death eaters, do not leave this Castle."

The boy narrowed his eyes at the transfiguration mistress as he pulled his sister behind him, the girl glancing back at the still sleeping Lucan Banner in concern.

"Professor McGonagall, I am willing to speak to the Ministry when they arrive if that is what you wish, but may I now be excused."

McGonagall's glare softened to the slightest degree when her eyes fell on the polite boy and I stepped out of his way as she inclined her head in the positive.

Rheines glanced back at Ky, his hazel eyes soft and then turned and made his way out of the room.

"I can't believe it! If we had hunted down whoever was behind that stupid poster we would have known to keep a watch on Anna Smith. Because she's surely been keeping a watch on all of us, I've seen her around this year too many times to be coincidental, I don't care what she says Professor McGonagall, but she is a vindictive girl and she can't feign ignorance, she knew exactly what she was doing!" Ginny growled as she folded her arms and leaned against the wall between Ky and Neville's beds.

"While I don't disagree with that sentiment Ginny, I don't know if knowing who doctored the posters might have changed anything. She'd probably just have gotten suspended and that surely would make her even bitterer." There was a slight defensive tone in Hermione's voice and I wondered whether she perhaps knew who was behind the posters, or had a means of finding out, but chose not disclose it thinking that it was all too petty and beneath her to dig into.

My reverie was broken by the dilation of her eyes accompanied by a gasp and I turned around to find Silvestre Sabre framed in the doorway, a tiny feminine outline cradled in his arms.

It must have been déjà vu for the room's occupants, but in stark contrast to me, the man never hovered in the centre of the room questioning where to lay down the woman, but instead walked determinedly to the bed at the end of Bill's row and laid the body down.

I wiped at my face with the back of my hands, agonizing warmth grappled within me and I rushed out of the room meeting Ron and Hermione in the corridor outside, Ron was rubbing her arm as she whimpered into his shoulder.

I walked back to the stairs and continued to the third floor, a profound guilt settling on my conscious... I should have done something... somehow...

"Oh Godric." Hermione's voice croaked out as we pushed the first door open and I closed my eyes in pain.

"Oh Godric." Hermione and Madam Pomfrey ran forward when she saw that Silvestre had begun covering the body, slipping the sheet over the old wizened face, the loose grey hairs fluttering in the wind that seemed to seep through the very walls of the Castle. Gabrielle Sabre...

"Where... how..." Hermione looked back at Ron in bewilderment, wondering if they had seen Madam Sabre or why anybody would call such an elderly woman into battle.

Silvestre's fingers smoothed down the sheet one last time before stepping away from his mother's corpse, his face stern and shoulders wide, although tired he looked unhurt, and whilst he was a Palbei, he was supposed to have been involved in a battle with death eaters and unlike Ron and the others, did not have felix felicis to come out unscathed.

He still hadn't answered anybody's questions, walking towards Ky with determined strides.

I realised I was following him eagerly and quickly regained my place next to Ky. Silvestre was a healer of note, he had even been helping Theodore Nott out these past few weeks... surely he would know what happened to her.

Another thought crossed my mind... Silvestre was Ky's guardian. Considering her potion wore off and she was susceptible to visions, she must also be susceptible to him invading her mind, he must have seen she was in danger, even where she was, he must know everything that happened...

"Silvestre-" He turned slowly away from Ky and his eyes found mine.

"I cannot enter her mind. It is different than usual though, I assume she has not taken her potion. Usually it is as if trying to open a locked door, but now it is as if the door is jammed but I will not force it open at the same time. Ky must not be forced awake... let her rest."

"But she-"

"She is broken Miss Granger. She knows full well the outcome of today's events and her soul is torn asunder and her mind, her powers, have shut down her conscious self for her own protection."

"So we just... what let her sleep? She's hurt!" Ron stepped towards the blonde man in concern.

"She has lost a considerable amount of blood and Madam Pomfrey has given her blood replenisher. Her physical wounds are minor and already healed as well, all her inner abrasions can only be repaired with time."

The room fell into silence once more as his words sunk in. So Ky had put herself to sleep? I suppose it made sense… it was an insurmountable amount of grief to deal with and if she felt it all at once it might destroy her. I slipped my hand into hers, feeling utterly hopeless but making a promise that I would remain by her side so she would never have to fight these demons alone.

"Silvestre..." Hermione stepped forward, "Your mother?"

He never turned away from Ky, staring down at her face with vacant eyes.

"She showed up at my door at midday, insisting I let her in. I did... we sat... had tea... I let my guard down of course, I tasted the valerian root in the tea far too late and the next moment I was lying on the floor of the kitchen with the night shining through the curtain. I traced her and found her location but she had also warded the house, the wards broke at midnight and when I got to there... to the place where she was, deep in Dungeons, I found her in my clothes... she must have used polyjuice, I do not know why she did that."

Mrs Weasley stepped toward the blonde man with sadness etched upon her face, the death of Gabrielle Sabre the sole event that managed to distract her from her injured son, "Because she loved you Silvestre."

He didn't spare Mrs Weasley a glance as he continued staring at Ky, "If she loved me she would not have caged me away when my own needed me so desperately. If she loved me she should have known that taking my place would not garner forgiveness or affection on my part. If she loved me, she would have let me go, let me fight-"

"Let you die. Silvestre... surely you see why she had done it." Hermione joined him in her staring down at Ky, the three of us like a triplicate protective force on her right whilst Professor McGonagall stayed steady on her left. "She must have had a vision of your death and sort to rectify it. She must have seen that the only way to save your life was to forfeit hers... you said you found her in the dungeons... that's where Ky was... she went there to protect her-"

"Bastian Blishwick's body is down there as well." He cut over Hermione, obviously feeling that topic had been exacerbated in a way that only Silvestre Sabre can do, "I haven't touched it, I thought it best for the Ministry to deal with but it is evident that Len killed him. I saw his swords down there."

There was the slightest hint of pride in his monotone and I couldn't help straightening up at that point. Bastian Blishwick was dead… Len killed him…

There was a clearing of a throat and we looked up to find Roger Davies standing before us. His dark hair was matted with sweat and his left arm was hanging in an odd sort of way, he glanced down at Ky, his blue eyes shaking slightly when they took in her pale face.

His eyes then flickered about the room and landed on Professor McGonagall, I noticed the stern point of his chin and the rigidity of his back.

"Professor McGonagall, may I speak with you in private-"

His words were swallowed by an ear piercing screech and my head snapped around just as Fleur's knees hit the floor. We all scrambled forward but Mr Weasley reached her first and I just noticed that she was clinging to a person; all I could tell from this angle was that it was a lady with black hair.

"Mary?" Professor McGonagall dashed forward, "Mary?"

Mary Towers olive green eyes met the deputy headmistress', they were blurred with tears as she clutched the distressed blonde in her arms, her face reddened and my blood ran cold.

"I... I heard about the boys. I heard about Linus and I used the emergency portkey to go to the Burrow-"Her next words were drowned out by an excruciating cry on her part.

"I'm sorry Roger, she just... I tried to keep her outside but she..." The redhead auror, Sarah, blubbered at Roger Davies and his jaw clenched. Sarah kept pressing her lips into each other in a desperate attempt to stop crying but the tears never ceased and she hovered over the two woman, at loggerheads on whether to pull Mary back outside or leave them as is. I turned to Davies whose blue eyes stared down at the women but seemed never to comprehend their existence.

"Agnes?" It was Hermione, she grabbed at Davies to get his attention, "Where's Agnes!"

His face was a pale white as he looked up at the ceiling and I watched his Adam's apple bob uncomfortably, "We found Mrs Thornton at the edge of the ward line. Her remains are presently with the Ministry-"

"NO!" Mrs Weasley screeched, "She was home... she was home when we left! An auror arrived for her protection."

At that Sarah burst into tears and turned on her heel and ran out the door, leaving Roger Davies to deal with the assault of questions.

"Auror Hawke was also found. It appears that they intended to leave the premises but were attacked once they reached the apparition point." Davies voice was void of emotion as he glanced upward, as if interested in the architecture of the roof.

"Roger!" Fleur screamed and her pretty face was stained with tears and pink blotches, "Are you sure! Maybe, maybe zey got away."

Davies continued to look at the ceiling, "We found their bo... remains Miss Delacour-"

"Roger!"

Fleur screamed and he snapped his head down at the part-veela, staring at her for the first time and taking in her whole being and his shoulders fell and he stepped back, his lip shaking erratically and snot dripped from his nose but his eyes remained dry, "Fleur, I am sorry but she is dead."

"No. No. No!" Fleur shook her head in the negative as she clutched desperately at Mary.

"Maybe we can save her. Maybe we can save him." Tonks kept muttering softly, she had sunk to the floor next to the sobbing girls, forgotten due to her silence but she suddenly shot to her feet, her hair changing colour erratically, whirling from short to long in a frightfully deranged sort of way, "Yes, yes...we can-"

Lupin clutched at her but she wrenched forward, "Nym, please-"

"NO!" She pushed off Lupin with unnatural strength and turned savagely around, her now black eyes on Silvestre, "You! You fix this! You take her and put her inside me! DO IT! I know you know how, DO IT! DO IT!" Tonks began banging against Silvestre's chest but he remained inert. "DO IT!"

"I CANNOT!" Silvestre snapped, "I do not know how and even if I did it is a ghastly, unpredictable, unnatural form of magic-"

"You can't bring back someone from the dead. Agnes wouldn't want that..." I muttered softly, walking slowly back towards Ky. I hadn't even thought of Agnes. I assumed she was at the Burrow… my face crumpled and I buried it in her long dark locks… what has happened to her world? What has happened to our world?

"She'z not talking about Agnes." I inhaled deeply and worked on pushing all my emotions deep within me and straightened up. Mary was stroking Fleur's silvery hair as the part-veela's dark blue eyes fell on me, "She'z talking about ze baby."

"The baby..." Hermione croaked next to me, removing her face from Ron's shoulder.

Mary closed her eyes in distinct agony as Ginny gasped as her mother's hold loosened on her, Mrs Weasley's grief transforming into disbelief.

"No… she never said…"

"She was less than a month…" Mary muttered, "She wanted to tell Ky first and then let everyone else know, we found out because well… she couldn't keep it to herself." Mary's lips folded into each other as she ducked her dark head down, "She was going to tell her today."

The rest of her sentences were incomprehensible as she began crying into Fleur's shoulder. Mr Weasley bent down to pull the ladies off the floor as Remus ran after Tonks who barged out of the Wing.

What was she asking Silvestre to do? Put the baby inside her? She said he knew how to do it… a shiver ghosted over me… magic was truly a blessing and a curse. Loss takes all the more time to be accepted due to the many options we have of preventing death… horcruxes and ghosts and ways of transferring a foetus into a living womb…

I turned around, watching as Davies wandered towards Ky. He looked as if he hadn't slept in days and fought about ten death eaters, but I knew the feeling that truly wore him down was the loss of his friend. Hawke. I tried recalling his face but it just didn't come to mind.

He placed an envelope on her bedside drawer, "Found it in his coat." He then turned and walked out of the room.

He didn't say if it was in Linus' or Len's coat, but I quickly assumed that it had to be Linus' as Len wasn't even wearing a shirt.

I glanced down at the green shirt Ky wore and it occurred to me that it was in fact Len's. My fists clenched as I realised that they must have been a reason for Len to give her his shirt…that bastard must have… no… I had the utmost faith in Len, he would never have let that happened…

I glanced at the envelope and didn't fight down the urge to grab it and open it, just to ensure that whatever awaited her once she awoke would not be startling enough to thrust her back into unconsciousness.

I pulled out the cardboard within and popped it open to find that it was a birthday card, holding few sheets of parchment.

I didn't read the writing which was bathing the inside of the card and looked at the papers enclosed.

The first was a crisp piece of parchment which was familiar to me; I had seen my birth certificate which I discovered in my Gringott's vault, many times.

I stroked the gold lettering that lounged on the centre of the page amidst the black, slanting official writing.

Kyrianna Ariana Kendra Dumbledore.

Linus had finally changed their names. I had asked her about it once but she said that Linus wasn't ready for it, that she knew he wasn't comfortable with the idea because he and his grandfather had a somewhat strained relationship.

I recalled with a painful pang the way he clutched the turret, almost hanging off it, utterly distracted by Dumbledore's death that he let his guard down for a moment that cost him his life.

The way he had screamed for Dumbledore when he first burst through those doors.

It was evident that the nature of Linus and Dumbledore's relationship had altered, for the better.

The second piece of paper was a muggle sonogram dated 28 June 1997.

I could tell it was muggle because the picture wasn't moving and I wondered if they even had Wizarding Sonograms.

My face broke into a smile as I stopped searching for the baby amidst all the black and white and saw an arrow point at a small white ball structure, the arrow lead up to neat writing, Your nephew/niece/all round awesome little person that I am sure you can't wait to corrupt haha.

I brushed at my face and sniffed as I spotted words that sat at the corner that read: Baby Dumbledore at three weeks.

The third sheet was folded, a broken seal my invitation to lay it open and I searched through the jargon to find recognizable words.

I stared at the address that sat at the bottom, my other hand nestled comfortably in her still fingers.

I shut the door of the room with a snap, only having it open long enough to see the baby's cot as Hermione's cries got loader and Ron pulled her into his chest.

I turned and made my way down the stairs, I didn't know why I came here. I suppose I wanted to make sure that when she came here, like I know she would do once she woke up and found the envelope, that it wouldn't be too much.

Too much?

Of course it was too much! Her whole family was massacred! Her brothers, her sister-in-law, even her brother's unborn child.

I kicked the door open and ran down the path in frustration.

It wasn't fair! They were good people… the best people…

I thought back to the four graves that lay in the island on the Black Lake. McGonagall had fought tooth and nail to get permission to let them be buried together and luckily for Scrimgeor's sake he relented.

I thought back to the Beach Day, all those months ago, I remember spotting the three of them across the Lake on that island… her brother's always made her smile in a way I never could, nor in a way that I would ever be able to. It wasn't particularly a better smile than the one she gave me, or a worse one, it just was different, a smile that belonged to just them and it was beautiful.

Godric, it was beautiful.

"Ahhh."I kicked at a garbage bag as I cut through an alley on my way back onto the High Street, continuing my thrashing until the floor was nothing but tomato peels and stained serviettes.

"HEY!"

"We're sorry!" Hermione called to the lady that exited her shop, ushering forward to apologise, "We'll fix it…sorry."

I banged my fist against the wall and felt the comforting pain overcome the immense feeling of grief that burned in my throat.

I turned, the rubbish piled up around my feet and I leaned against the wall, the cool air brushing at my raw knuckles.

Ron was staring down at the floor like he was prone to these days, Hermione staring at me in concern.

I knew her concern wasn't just for me, nor was it just for Ky either. Rheines had informed her that the Death Eaters had taken Nott's unconscious body with them, she told me how he had saved her from Bellamy and sudden rush of fear gripped my body.

I dashed forward and grabbed her, my arms enveloping hers tightly as it sunk in how close I came to losing her.

She hugged me back fiercely and I felt Ron's lanky forearm about my neck as he embraced us both.

The reason why I could even begin to gauge the level of despair Ky would feel at the loss of her family was because of these two people that stood before me. My family. Our family.

Dumbledore was gone.

So was Linus, and Len and Agnes.

Snape turned traitor like we knew he would.

Apart from McGonagall and Silvestre… we were all that Ky had left.

Three teenagers falling apart in the middle of an alleyway.

I gripped her tighter still as the memory of the room that was decorated just for me, in the house that Linus had purchased so he could be closer to Ky, resurfaced and I sobbed harder.

It was a gift of fate really, a message from beyond the grave, a welcome into their family. A testament that they approved of our relationship...

I sniffed, wiping my eyes on my bare hands and we untangled ourselves, Hermione still clutching me from the side. We didn't break the silence and made our way back to Hogwarts.

Ron was the first to speak, just as we crossed the winged boar gates, "I keep thinking about Bellamy."

Hermione stiffened slightly under my arm, "Me too. Burnt alive or bullet through the heart. I fancy the latter, just to see Bellatrix's face that both her children were done in the muggle way."

I glanced down at Hermione with a raised brow but all I could see was her bushy brown hair, Ron mirrored my expression, "Erm... no... I wasn't fantasizing about killing her... not that it's not an entertaining past time. I was just thinking about her actions that night. All their actions really, the death eaters... when Ky came out onto the grounds, they all turned their attention towards her, I was duelling Allison Fleeceheart myself and she just turned her back on me. Mate," Ron's blue eyes found the ground once again, "they meant to... do her in too. Bellamy will want revenge for her brother."

I watched the considerable smaller group of mourners in the distance, slowly making their way to the gate, majority of the student body already in the Castle, preparing for the train ride back home which was an hour away."I know Ron... I know. That's why Ky has guards outside the hospital wing day and night."

"I'm not talking about keeping people out." I turned to my best friend just as we stepped into the Entrance Hall, Hermione unglued herself to my side. "I'm talking about-"

"HARRY!" I snapped my head up, Ginny was at the top of the stairs, her black dress robes falling off her shoulder, her long ginger hair swaying as a group of students bustled past her on their way down.

I was at the top of the stairs before she could get her second breath out and with nothing but her look of alarm as instruction, I took off in the direction of the Hospital Wing.

I pushed the door open forcefully and barged in, Madam Pomfrey and Professor McGonagall froze in shock at my entrance and my eyes went straight to the bed I sat at for almost four days straight.

My heart hammered in my chest as Professor McGonagall stepped towards me, her fingers clasped together tightly but I didn't need her to say it.

I walked to the drawer, looking for the envelope but knowing I wouldn't find it.

I stared at the empty bed as Ron's sentence completed in my head.

I'm not talking about keeping people out. I'm talking about keeping Ky in.

She was gone and the small stitch that seemed to be the sole mechanism that was holding me together was torn asunder...

She was gone and the only loss I couldn't comprehend befell my shoulders and dragged my very spirit to the floor...

She was gone and my mind was driven to madness as I imagined the worse, which usually became my reality.

Ky was gone...
