Thirty-Three Mila
"OMG! Thank you guys so much for taking me out. You have no idea how bad EJ wanted a burger and a milkshake," Bree said as she stuffed fries in her mouth. I smiled and told her it was no big deal. Even though it was a stab at the heart hearing her talk about EJ. I guess it was something I needed to get used to. This was going to be my life now. Bree dipped her fries in some mayo before putting them in her mouth.
"And that is why I'm glad I can never get pregnant," Alex said shaking his head.
"Don't knock it till you try it," Bree said smiling. She stuck another fry in the mayo and held it in front of Alex's mouth. He squealed and tried to push her hand away but she just kept trying to get him to eat it. I looked down at my phone for the hundredth time and let out a frustrated sigh. Embry still hadn't called, nobody had called. I had no idea what was going on. I knew it was bad when he told me to leave but that didn't stop me from worrying.
"What's going on?" Caleb asked me. I snapped out of my daze and looked at him. I wished I could tell him everything. He was my person before Embry was. He was the person I would call if I was in trouble, if I needed help, for anything really. I had never kept a secret from him. It wasn't hard in the beginning but times like this; I needed to be able to tell him. But I knew I couldn't tell him. I couldn't break the rules and risk what could possibly happen. But damn I wished I could tell him.
"Nothing is going on Care Bear. Everything is fine," I said to him. I even put a smile on my face. But I could tell he didn't believe me. He stared at me and then shook his head.
"Fine, don't tell me. But I know something is going on," he whispered to me before turning back to his food. Bree had finally succeeded and gotten the mayo dipped fry into Alex's mouth. His face scrunched up before he slowly started to chew. A huge smile covered his face and he dipped two more fries in and tossed them in his mouth. An hour later we were finally finished eating and walking out to the car.
"I'm stuffed." Caleb said with a loud yawn.
"Why don't you guys come back with us? Bree asked him. "I'm sure Mila wants to spend more time with her friends and I'm not ready to turn in. I need somebody to talk to." She said as she grabbed Alex's hand. Alex laughed and looked at Caleb. I had no idea what was happening but I felt like Bree was trying to get her own Caleb. She was trying to put dibs on Alex as her new gay best friend. They had been laughing and really hitting it off. Caleb smiled at her and gently pulled Alex closer to him.
"Thanks for the offer Bree but I think Embry and Mila already have one to many house guests," he turned to me "Unless you want us to come over." I stood and looked at them. I looked down at my phone and saw I still didn't get a call. I didn't want to be alone in the house, well I wasn't going to be alone but being stuck with Bree wasn't something I wanted to do.
"Of course Care Bear," I said to him. Bree clapped her hands and grabbed Alex's hand dragging him towards the car. Caleb and I stood watching them.
"I'm telling you right now, if she tries to steal Alex we're gonna fight." Caleb said. I looked at him and laughed before grabbing his hand.
Bree let out another loud laugh. I rolled my eyes and looked over at Caleb. He sat arms crossed not looking amused. Bree and Alex had been laughing almost nonstop since we got in the car. We were halfway home. Alex laughed at something Bree said. Caleb let out a loud breath and reached over to the radio. He turned it almost all the way up after he found the song on the CD he liked.
"I love this song!" Bree yelled out. She and Alex started singing along. Caleb rolled his eyes and looked out the window. I grabbed his hand and kissed it. We looked at each other and without saying a word knew exactly what we both were thinking. It wouldn't be long before we got home and got the two of them away from each other.
"MILA…LOOK OUT!" Bree yelled. I turned and started screaming. There was somebody standing in the road. I jerked the wheel to the left and heard the wheels screeching. The wheel went back to the right and before I knew it the car was flipping over. Bree was screaming. I closed my eyes and prayed that it would stop flipping. Suddenly we were upside down. I turned and saw Caleb next to me. His arm was bent at a really weird angle.
"Caleb…Caleb are you alright?" I asked him. He didn't say anything but I could see his chest rising and falling. I unlocked my seat belt and fell down. The fall made a bunch of air come out. The window had broken during the crash. I sucked in a deep breath as I slowly crawled out the car. The glass was digging in my palm and it hurt like hell. I stood up and looked around. I knew I saw somebody in the middle of the road. But as I looked around now, I couldn't see anybody. I needed to call somebody. I crawled back into the car trying to look for my phone. As I was looking for it, I heard coughing from the back seat. "My baby….oh my God help my baby," Bree started to scream. I crawled back out and went over to the door. It was all dented in and I couldn't get it open. I ran back around to the drover seat and slid on my stomach.
"Bree I need you to calm down. I can't get the door open. I need to break the window. I'll be back ok?" I asked her. Bree stopped yelling and nodded her head yes. Quickly I slid back out and looked around. We were in the middle of the road. I didn't want to run to far from the car in case someone else came driving by. I ran over to the side of the road and up to the forest line. Lucky for me there was a branch on the ground. It wasn't huge but I hoped it would get the job done. I ran back over to the car and dropped the branch. I slid my jacket off and back onto my stomach.
"Bree, take my jacket. Cover your face. I'm gonna try to get you out!" I slid her my jacket and she took it from me. I ran back over to the window and looked at her. When she was ready I took a deep breath and hit the window. Nothing happened. I took another deep breath and hit the window again. Nothing happened. This couldn't be happening right now. I needed to get her out! I held the branch to try again when I was suddenly thrown off my feet. I screamed as I hit the ground. I gasped for breath as I opened and closed my eyes. My head was spinning.
I stood up and saw two people by the car. I couldn't see who it was. The sun had set long before. I hobbled up and looked at the car. The strangers were walking around the car. Suddenly one guy bent over and yanked a door off. My mouth fell open and I started to scream. They were vampires! The door flew behind him and he dragged someone out the car. Bree started screaming as the other person yanked another door off. I ran as fast as I could to the car. When I reached the car I started screaming. One vampire was kneeled over Alex…feeding. I ran over and started pounding on his back. I don't know why I did that because it did nothing. He reached back and threw me off of him.
I fell into the ground and started coughing. I didn't know how much more of this I could take. My body was screaming for me to stop but I couldn't. Bree screamed again. "EMBRY! EMBRY!" I yelled out as I slowly stood up. I screamed his name again as I slowly ran back towards the car. He had to hear me, he heard me when we were in the clearing. Caleb started screaming this time. As quickly as I heard him, I didn't hear him anymore. I screamed and ran towards them. I couldn't lose Caleb to, this was too much. "EMBRY!" I screamed out again. He had to hear me! I needed him to hear me. I shut my eyes and screamed for Embry again. When I opened them I saw the vamp leaning over Caleb.
Bree screamed out again. "Please…please let me go! I'm pregnant," she yelled out. That wouldn't matter to them, whoever they were. They only cared about one thing. The vamp that killed Alex spun Bree around and pinned her to his chest. He opened his mouth wide. I couldn't watch Bree loose her life. I closed my eyes.
"ENOUGH!" a voice yelled out. My eyes snapped open and I saw three more vamps walking, well more like floating towards us. Sabrina stood in the middle, two women by her side. She looked down in disgust before turning her attention back to the vamps.
"I told you to be discreet!" she said staring at the vamp that held Bree. Bree looked on in horror as she tried to get away. The vamp tightened his grip on her arms and pulled her closer to his chest.
"We tried. She freaked out. We left her for you," he said. Sabrina turned her attention to me and smiled. I looked on in horror, not knowing what she was going to do. She quickly jerked her head to the vamp on her right. The girl yanked me up by my arms before I could blink.
"Let me go please!" Bree cried "What are you people?" she asked. She started hyperventilating and crying harder. She needed to calm down. I didn't want her to go into labor this early.
"Bree we're gonna be fine. You just need to calm down ok. Trust me," I told her. Sabrina started to laugh a little. She walked in front of Bree and inhaled. She turned around and looked at me.
"She doesn't smell as good as you. Even with the smell of mutt you still smell delicious. I've been waiting patiently for you. But those mutts made sure to always be around, to always keep you close. You can imagine my happiness when Saul here told me you were alone. Not one wolf in sight. And I was so...happy! You see your little mutts have taken out some people who were very important to me. And I know the Volturi will be more than pleased with me if I got rid of all these mutts."
"You'll never be able to get them! They will beat you and kill all of you. You should just leave now," I said to her. My voice was strong but it was still shaky. I tried to sound sure but I really didn't know. I had screamed for Embry but he never came. I didn't know if he was going to find me. As soon as I thought of leaving him I started to cry. I was going to die which meant Embry was going to die. Bree was standing across from me sobbing. Suddenly it hit me, he was going to lose me and Bree…and even EJ. There was no way he would be able to handle that. I knew Embry loved me, he told me all the time. He showed me every day but I knew that Bree was important to him too. She was the mother of his child. I knew he could handle losing an imprint but if he lost his child? That would kill him.
The vamp that I now knew was called Saul inhaled. He was holding Bree and kept looking at her neck. Sabrina turned around and looked at the car. She finally noticed Caleb and Alex on the ground. She walked over and kicked Alex in the leg. Then walked over to Caleb and kneeled down close to him. I didn't know what she was doing. She stood up and turned to us.
"Saul, clean this up and when he changes bring him to me. Let's go," Bree said walking past us. The other two vamps she was with followed behind her. We ended up at a truck. Bree climbed into the driver seat while Bree and I were forced in the back seat. The two vamps slid in but blocked the door. Bree and I were squished together in the middle. Bree was still crying but had gotten her breathing under control. She rubbed her stomach slowly. I grabbed one of her hands and squeezed it. Bree turned and looked at me.
"We're going to be fine," I mouthed to her. She smiled a little and nodded yes. I had no idea what she was thinking. I knew she was scared. She had no idea what was going on and I couldn't even tell her. I looked out the window trying to see where we were going but it was dark. And on top of it being dark we were driving so fast down the road. There was no way I would have been able to know where we were going, even if it was daylight. I didn't know where we going but I closed my eyes and prayed for Embry and the pack to be able to find us. I didn't know how I was going to get us out of this but I had to make sure we stayed alive. When they pack came to get us we needed to be alright.
