Thirty-Five Embry

I had searched all of Forks and gotten nowhere. They weren't here. The sun was starting to rise and I couldn't take it.

They aren't here! Where could they be?

Embry you have to calm down.

Don't tell me to calm down! My imprint is missing! I yelled at Brady.

It's not just your imprint missing Embry. All of them are important to somebody. Leah chimed in We are going to find them but you need to calm down. We don't know what is going to happen when we find them.

Leah was right. I need to calm down. But hearing her say that scared me. I was making it a point not to think about all the bad things that could happen. I hadn't really smelt leech in Forks.

Well if they aren't in Forks where else could they be? Brady asked

Yea where else could they have gone? It's not like there are a bunch of places to eat around here. Leah said. I thought about the note that Mila had left. Bree wanted a burger and some fries. I thought about the place we went to eat before.

Do you think we'll find them there? Brady asked.

I don't know but we gotta try. It's heading towards Port Angles. I told them. We all headed towards Port Angles. We had been running for a while when the smell hit my nose. There was blood. I started running harder. We could hear the sirens and people talking.

We need to phase out! Leah told us. We phased out and headed towards the voices. We all made sure we were deep enough off in the woods before we phased back. We had tied a pair of shorts onto our ankles. After slipping them on I ran back out to the road. There was a small crowd coming. I pushed my way through praying that I wasn't going to find what I knew I was going to. My nose felt like it was burning from the smell of the leech. As soon as I reached the front I felt Leah grab my arm. I growled at her and she tightened her grip.

"Calm down Embry," she whispered to me. Calm down? How could I calm down when I was staring at Bree's car turned upside down!

"Looks like something ran out into the road, scared the poor kid. He must have crawled out for help but straggled into the woods. Unfortunately before help could get him, looks like a bear did." One officer was saying to another one. He said the poor kid, as if there was only one. But that didn't make any sense. How could there only have been one? Mila, Bree, Caleb and Alex were all gone together.

"I need to talk to somebody," I told Mila.

"You need to calm down first Embry. Follow me," Leah said. She dragged me through the crowd towards Brady.

"Stay here," she said before turning around. She took a few deep breaths and pushed her way back to the front of the crowd. If I wasn't so worried about Mila and Bree, I would have been very impressed about the tears that she was displaying. Leah was crying so hard. She managed to get an officer's attention.

"Officer please you have to help me. That car looks like the car my friends were driving last night. I haven't heard from any of them!"

"We only have one body on the scene ma'am. I'm sure it's not your friends. Just keep trying to call them."

"Can I look please?! Just one look?" Leah asked him. He shook his head no. "Sorry ma'am but I can't let you pass the tape."

"Please sir you have to let me look. I just need to make sure it's not them!"

"Ma'am I already told you, there was only one body in connection to this accident. It was a white male between the ages of 21-25. His car crashed and he must have wondered into the woods. Just keep trying to call you friends."

White male? That must have been Alex. But I was still standing confused. They all had been together. Where in the hell was everybody else? I knew the chances of him being attacked by an animal were highly unlikely. I just needed to get close to the car; I needed to see if I recognized the leech smell. My eyes quickly darted left and right. The cop said that Alex had made it into the woods. I didn't see any footprints which meant he must have been carried. Leah was back by my side by now.

"What are you thinking?" she asked me. I didn't say anything just went back into the woods. Brady was sitting underneath a tree. His head would drop to his chest but he would quickly put it back up. I knew Brady was tired. We had been out all night. He needed some rest, I did too but I couldn't rest. I walked over and pulled him up.

"Brady you go back and get some rest. Tell the rest of the pack what's going on. Leah we need a distraction. I need to get by where they found Alex's body. I didn't smell leech by the road but I'm hoping we get something over there."

"Got it," she said phasing and heading over there. I turned around and Brady was still standing there. I could tell he didn't want to leave. He opened his mouth to say something and I shook my head no.

"Brady it's cool. I need you to get back and let everybody know what's going on. We'll call when we know more alright? Hurry up," I told him. Brady gave me a half smile turned and ran away. I turned around and followed behind Leah. It wasn't long before I heard her growling and snapping. The few techs on the scene screamed and ran away. The plan was working well until I heard a shot ring out. Leah growled again. She snapped at a cop and he followed behind the crew. They were on their walkie talkies saying they thought they found the wolf who killed the boy.

Leah's lounge rolled out her mouth as she turned and looked at me. I smelled two different leeches but I could smell them. I didn't recognize the scent. I pulled the cover back from Alex. Leah whined a little. I felt her pain to. We had just saw him laughing and having a good time, now he was in front of us. Dead. He had a bite mark on his neck as well as his arm. If I didn't knowing what to look for, I would have missed them. A leech had definitely been there and been a part of this. I needed to get to a phone.

"We need to get the pack," I told Leah. She held her head up and howled. Two seconds later another howl was made. I knew it wouldn't be long before the rest of the pack was there with us. I just hoped that no one would come across us before they got here. I went behind a tree and slipped my clothes off. I phased and ran back over to Leah.

I noticed slight trail heading that way. It's getting faint though. I'll stay here till they get here. Don't do anything stupid Embry. Call us if you need help.

Thanks Leah. I turned and headed back towards the high way. Leah was right the smell was getting faint. I didn't smell cherries or even sandalwood. I had no idea if Leah or Bree was with this leech. I just knew I had to keep taking a chance. I needed to find them.
