Thirty Nine Embry

I'm almost certain that I could have gotten away but I couldn't leave Mila and Bree. I didn't know what Sabrina would do to them if I had gotten away. She was pretty pissed when Leah slipped out of their grasps. We hadn't had time to set up a plan before it happened but knowing Leah she had gotten the pack and they were heading back to where she last saw me. That was a horrible idea since we were heading back to La Push. I didn't know what Leah had planned and there was no way that I could talk to her.

We were speeding on the highway heading back. Sabrina had Bree and Mila in a car with her, Saul had me in the truck with him. The two other leeches were each in the back besides me. The smell was horrible. My nose had been burning from the stench. I couldn't take it anymore.

"Can you let the window down please?" I asked the leech driving. He looked back at me and laughed.

"Uncomfortable mutt?" he asked. He laughed before speeding up. As we headed down the coast I had no idea where we were. The road was passing by too fast outside. I wasn't sure how far we were from La Push. I needed to think of something and fast. I looked back out the window at the car in front of us. I knew as long as I could look at the window and see the car in front of me, the girls were safe. My son was safe. I had to figure out a way to keep them safe. I looked to the left and saw Vanessa looking out the window. The other leech was staring at the car. Her face was full of concentration. She must have been the one Sabrina was talking about earlier, the one with the shield.

I needed to get her away from them but how was I supposed to do that? I needed to come up with a plan. I remembered Bella was practicing all the time. Back when the Cullen's thought we were going to have to face the Volturi. She was able to stop every single attack that could have happened with that shield. That had to be why Alice had no idea we were coming. I looked at the radio and saw it said 9:42pm. We had a couple hours or so left until we reached La Push. I needed to find a way to let them know we were coming. But the only way I could do that is if I phased. And I had to be close enough that I could talk to somebody. I didn't want to think it but if I was close enough to talk to someone then that would be too late.

We passed a sign that said rest stop 3 miles ahead. Rest stops meant bathrooms. Bathrooms meant a possible way to contact somebody.

"I need to use the bathroom," I said loudly. Saul looked at me through the review mirror and shook his head no.

"No can do mutt."

"Look I haven't went to the bathroom in almost a day. At least pull over and let me go outside."

"Saul I'm sure the girls need to go," the shield whispered.

"Did anybody ask you?" Saul replied "Don't you have a job to do?"

"I can do my job. Vanessa can't you ask Sabrina if we can stop? He's dancing in his seat," Vanessa turned and looked at her sister. She looked at Saul then back at her sister. When I saw her look I started moving my legs back and forth. I really did have to pee so it wasn't hard to fake it. Vanessa sighed and pulled her phone out. She tapped the screen and put it up to her ear.

"The dog needs to pee…we can pull over for a few seconds. I'm sure the humans need to go too…alright." She said before hanging up. "Saul, follow Sabrina. When we stop you need to take the mutt out."

Saul let out a groan and followed Sabrina to the exit. When we reached the rest stop, Vanessa climbed out the first. She had yanked me out of the truck. The shield stepped out and went over to the car. She opened the door and Bree stepped out. Mila stepped out behind her. She turned and looked at me but quickly turned away. I knew she was doing this because she thought it was protecting me or something. But this was killing me. I needed to talk to her.

I took a step towards the building when Saul grabbed my arm. He threw a punch to the back of my head. I wasn't expecting it so I fell down to the ground. "Where do you think you're going?" he asked as he bent down to pick me up.

"The bathroom," I groaned out.

"Nice try. You're going over here," he said before pushing me behind the building. This was a wrench in the plans for sure. I needed to leave some kind of note a sign something. But what could I do in the middle of the woods? Saul walked me out into the woods a few feet and pushed me down on the ground.

"Can I get a little privacy please?"

"Yea right," Saul said. He kicked me to the ground and took three steps back. "This is as much privacy as your gonna get." He didn't turn around which told me I needed to come up with something else. I looked around me but saw nothing. I just needed to let the pack know what was going on.

"Fuck it," I mumbled before turning around quickly. Saul wasn't expecting it which let me get a good hit in. As soon as he fell I took off running, phasing when I got a few feet away.

Guys! Guys! Anybody! I yelled out. I was met with silence which wasn't a good thing. I looked behind me and saw Saul and Vanessa running behind me. I pushed myself to run faster. This would be so much easier if I could just howl but I didn't want them knowing what I was trying to do. Hopefully we were close enough and someone would hear me.

Is anybody out there? Come on guys I know somebody is out there!

Embry? Embry is that you?

Seth?! What the hell are you doing here?

Leah came back and told us what was going on. She went to get Brady and Collin the rest of us were looking for you.

Where are we exactly?

We're right outside Seattle.

Look I don't have much time.

What are you talking about?

I turned around and let him see I was being chased by the leeches.

Shit Embry. I'm on my way.

NO! Go back to the reservation let everybody know that we are coming back there. I told Sabrina there is a potion to kill us.

A potion? What the hell?

Tell Jake to get some kind of plan together and make sure all the imprints are safe. I'm gonna lead them as close to the res as I can get them. You guys need to figure out a way to know when we get there. I won't be able to do this again. HURRY SETH!

Embry wait!

I tuned him out and made a slight left. I turned around and saw Saul and Vanessa still coming after me. I made another turn and stopped behind a large tree. I had just phased out when they caught up to me. Saul punched me in the stomach and I bowled over. All the air was knocked out of me. Vanessa hit me again and I fell down to the ground.

"And where exactly did you think you were going?" Saul asked me.

"Just needed to stretch my legs," I told him. Saul hit me one more time before yanking me off the ground. Quickly he pushed me forward. When we walked out and Caleb opened up the door for me. Before climbing in, he pulled out some chains.

"Make sure he can't get out again. No more stops," Saul said angrily. He walked over to the car and jumped in his seat. After I was secure in my chains Caleb pushed me into the car. He shut the door and went back to the car ahead of us with Sabrina. We were about to pull out when there was the loudest scream I had ever heard. The front passenger window exploded out and Caleb's head was hanging out. I could tell he was struggling to get back up.

"Oh shit," Saul said. He, Vanessa, and her sister jumped out of the car. They all made their way over to the truck. I hopped on the seat until I was falling out of the car to the ground. "Get him under control!" I heard Sabrina yell at Saul. Saul and the shield quickly carried Caleb back into the small building where the bathrooms were. Vanessa looked in the car and back at Sabrina.

"What now?" she asked her. I had no idea what she was asking her that for. Suddenly the smell hit my nose. Blood. But whose blood was it? The girls were already in the car when we came back.

"We need to get to a hospital now!" Mila yelled out. Mila was talking and she was ok. But that meant that Bree wasn't. I could hear three frantic heart beats. Mila, Bree, and the baby. Bree was in labor! She screamed out again.

"They need a hospital. Caleb can't make the drive with her like this," the shield said.

"We lose control in the hospital. We can't watch them.'

"The pregnant one is only concerned about the baby. She's gonna be doped up on pain meds."

"I won't say anything I promise," Mila told them.

"I know you won't because you aren't going," Sabrina said before yanking her out the car. Sabrina slammed the door before dragging Mila over to the car I was in. She turned and looked back at the shield.

"Take her the hospital and stay with her. You need to get out of here now before Caleb loses it."

The shield nodded and quickly jumped in the driver seat. She didn't wait for Sabrina to change her mind before pulling away from the curb.

"Saul Vanessa let's go! We don't have much time." She yelled out for them. They came back out but without Caleb. Sabrina looked confused.

"He found a snack," Saul said climbing into the passenger seat. Vanessa lifted me off the ground and put me back in the car. Caleb came out a few minutes later. His mouth was covered in blood. He didn't say anything as he hopped in the truck. He sat in the third row of seats. Vanessa put me in the car and slid in next to me. Mila sat on my right, behind Saul. I could tell she was pacing her breathing. I wanted to tell her everything was going to be ok. It was killing me that I couldn't do it. I hoped that Seth was able to get the message to the rest of the pack.

Suddenly I felt a jolt. A smile threatened to break out on my face but I had to hold it in. Mila fingertips grazed my leg. I knew she was trying to tell me everything was going to be alright. I just hoped that we both were right.
