Forty Four Embry

Everything happened in slow motion. I had just phased and headed straight for Sabrina. Alice was on the ground withering in pain. And I could see the mist heading from Alec's hands. Suddenly it all stopped and I smelled blood. Sabrina stood up and I gripped her waist. I heard Alice jump up and she jumped on Sabrina's back. Her arms went to her neck and she started to pull her head back. The sound of concrete cracking met my ears. I didn't know where Jane and Alec had gone to. Suddenly I heard Mila screaming. I turned around and saw one of the scariest sights ever. Vanessa stood with her mouth on Mila's arm. I ran over and jumped on Vanessa. Alice yanked Mila up as I snapped at Vanessa's neck. It wasn't long before we had her body in pieces. I phased out and saw Mila on the ground. She was screaming and rolling around in pain. Alice grabbed her waist and started to shake her head.

"This isn't good. We need to get the venom out. It's spreading."

"How are we supposed to do that?" I asked her. She looked around and then looked at me. "Keep her calm. I'll be back," Alice said before running off. Mila started gasping and screaming. I grabbed her and put her in my neck. Her eyes were closed. I rubbed her head and kissed her forehead. She was sweating and her skin was hot. She screamed out again. "Shhh…shhh Mila I'm here. I got you. Can you hear me? I've got you Mila." I said to her. She screamed out again. "I know it hurts, I know that it hurts but it's going to be ok alright? We are going to be fine. You're going to be fine." I told her. I said the words even though I wasn't sure. She started to breathe deeply in and out.

"Let me see her," a voice said from behind me. I recognized Carlisle's voice. I sat her on the ground and moved over. Carlisle looked at her arms. "There is only one bite here. How long has it been?"

"About five minutes. Can you get it out?" Alice asked him. Carlisle looked at me.

"I can but I will have to suck it out."

"What?" I yelled at him "There is no way you're putting your mouth on her."

"Embry you can trust Carlisle. He made Edward stop when he saved me." Bella said to me. I turned around and saw her standing behind me. She put her hand on my shoulder. Emmett came over and nodded his head behind her. I looked at them and then back at Carlisle. Mila groaned out again in pain. I quickly nodded and turned my head away. Mila let out a scream and kept groaning. When she suddenly stopped I turned around quickly. She was still breathing and I heard her heart beating. Carlisle had his back turned to me, Alice stood in front of him. He turned back around and walked over to Bella and Emmett.

"We need to get back and quickly. Bella Emmett we need two cars... fast cars." Bella and Emmett nodded before disappearing into the woods. Carlisle kneeled down next to Mila. "If you don't mind picking her up Embry; I figured you would want to carry her to the road. She's unconscious so you can move fast. You'll need to move fast. Time is of the essence." I picked her up and ran behind Carlisle. We made it to the road just as Bella and Emmett pulled up. Somehow they managed to find an Audi and a Mustang. Carlisle pointed to the Audi and I slipped in with Mila. He went to the Mustang and we quickly pulled off. Normally I would have been concerned by how fast we were driving but Carlisle made it obvious that we needed to get back home. The entire time we were driving I held Mila in my lap. She never woke up and she never made any other noise. I kissed her forehead. "You're going to be fine Mila."

"What are we doing here?" I asked Alice. She had just stopped the car and jumped out. She opened my door and reached in to grab Mila from me. I held her to my chest and growled at her. Three other leeches stepped out of the house. I see Carlisle's wife go to him. He said something to her and she covered her mouth. She looked towards the car then back towards the house. Bella came over and kneeled in the door.

"Bringing her in, let's Carlisle do his work."

"I can't go in there Bella."

"Don't worry about the treaty. If Jake or Sam has anything to say they will answer to me."

"Embry," Nessie said from behind her. Bella looked up and stepped out of the way. She leaned down towards me. "Come inside with me. Jake is on his way. You know that we will do everything we can to save her. She's family."

Nessie was right. She was Jake's imprint and she was family. I knew she was right, that they wouldn't let her be hurt. I took a deep breath and said ok. I carried Mila in the house and followed Carlisle to a spare room. There was a hospital bed and some other machines there. I didn't even want to ask why they had a room like this on standby. I was thankful that they did. I sat Mila down on the bed and stepped to the side. Carlisle and Esme walked over and started cutting her clothes off. They were looking at her then quickly looked at each other. They didn't say anything but I could tell something was wrong. I stepped up and looked from Mila to them. "What's wrong?" I asked them.

Suddenly Mila started to scream. Her body started to thrash around the bed. Esme stepped up and put her arms across Mila. "EMMETT!" she yelled out. Emmett ran into the room past me. He held Mila's legs down. She kept screaming. Carlisle pulled a long syringe out. "What is that?" I yelled at them. No one said anything to me. Carlisle plunged the syringe in her arm and pushed down. Mila let out a growl and suddenly stopped moving. "What is going on?" I yelled at them.

"Embry I'm going to ask you to step out," Carlisle said. I looked at him like he was crazy. There was no way I was going to leave her! I stepped forward and tried to get to her. A pair of arms wrapped around my shoulders and started pulling me back. "LET ME GO! GET OFF ME!" I screamed out.

"You will calm down and come with me. You will not come back inside until Carlisle says you can," my alpha said in my ear. I felt the tightness in my chest. It was an Alpha order and I couldn't ignore it. I wanted to but I couldn't. I stopped fighting and let Jake lead me outside. As soon as we were out, I turned and pushed him off me.

"You can't keep me away from her Jake! She's my imprint."

"I understand Embry. But Carlisle can't help her if you keep getting in the way. You know that he won't let anything happen to her."

"I don't know anything anymore. I thought Bella and Emmett had turned on us! I thought I could rescue Mila but she got bit while I was there."

"That was part of the plan Em. We needed to get you, Mila, and Bree back."

"Bree…I don't know where she is."

"Emily found out what hospital she's out. She's in Seattle. Do you want to go see her?"

"I can't leave Mila."

"Go see Bree and your son. Nessie and I will be here with Mila. As soon as I know anything I will call and let you know. You should go see her."

Jake was right. I didn't want to leave Mila but he was right. After everything they had been through I needed to go see them. "Call me as soon as you know something Jake." He nodded and went back into the house. I turned around and ran back to my house. I hopped in the car and headed to see Bree.

It didn't take long before I was pulling up at the hospital. It took about five minutes for them to send me to her room. When I walked in, I found Bree sitting on the bed. A small bundle in her arm wrapped in a blue and white blanket. Bree was laughing and looked like she was ok. I stood staring at them for a while.

"Embry!" Bree said surprised to see me. I walked deeper into the room and found Kim sitting in a chair. Kim stood up and hugged me before excusing herself out of the room. When she left Bree looked at me. "Do you want to hold him?" she asked me quietly. I wanted to but I didn't say anything. "Come on Embry. You won't break him." She said smiling. I walked over slowly and held my hands out. Bree shook her head no. "Put your arms in front of you like I have mine." I did it and bent over. Slowly she placed him in my arms. I looked down at the small baby in my arms and couldn't help but smile. He looked perfect while he slept in my arms.

"Hello there Evan James Call."

"Actually it's Embry Call Jr. I had a change of heart," Bree told me. I looked at her surprised but didn't stop the huge smile that came across my face. I heard EJ let out a stifled yawn and looked down. His eyes opened slowly and I saw the most beautiful brown eyes I had ever seen. He opened his mouth and let out a cooing sound. His hand reached out and opened up. I put one of my fingers in and he closed his hand around it. "Whoa he's a strong one," I said to Bree. She laughed again and shook her head.

"Must be that super human wolf like strength." I looked at Bree surprised.

"After everything I've been through, I know that the legends are true. Mila and Kim filled in the blanks for me. And I know the rules, I can't tell. And I won't. Nobody would believe me anyway. I didn't believe Mila when she tried to tell me."

I turned around and sat EJ in the small clear bassinet that was next to the bed. I turned around and sat on the corner of Bree's hospital bed. I didn't know how to start this conversation or even what to say.

"Bree…look I…I'm sorry about all of this. I never meant for anything to happen to you. I never meant for you to be involved in any of this."

"Embry it's ok really. Now that I know everything makes sense. We can just move forward from this. I did have to come up with a crazy story to explain the bite mark though," she said laughing "But I'm fine, EJ is perfect, and Mila is fine. You and the guys got to us. You guys rescued us." As soon as she mentioned Mila's name, my face dropped. "What is it?" Bree asked me.

"Mila and I didn't get away as quickly as you did. Something happened and she's in the hospital sort of."

'Oh no! Is she ok?"

'I don't know."

"EJ and I are being discharged tomorrow. Go be with Mila. I know it's killing you being away from her this long. We are going to figure out how to make this all work."

"Bree I can't-"

"Embry Call. Your soul mate is hurt. Go before I have you kicked out."

I walked over to her and kissed her on the cheek. She smiled and pushed me off to her. I kissed EJ before I walked out the hospital. I had been on the road for almost an hour when my phone started to ring. I looked down and saw Jake's name flashing on the screen.

"Jake!"

"Em it's me. You need to get back here. We need to talk."
