Chapter 37: Light, Darkness, Betrayal, and Power
The mages in the Sabertooth guild could hear the loud sounds of bombs or blasts exploding overseas, and some people like Orga had looked pretty shocked to hear the copious amount of attacks that had transpired. The town of Castelia was not under attack by anyone, but Sting and Rogue could both hear that the explosive waves sounded like they were coming all the way from where Fairy Tail was located. He knew that the fairies could get pretty rowdy in their brawls, sometimes battling wilder than the people in the guild known as Quatro Cerberus, and they had probably taken their fun to another level.
After all, Natsu did tend to be reckless in many fights. He was also a very explosive person, getting very heated up like the flames that he wielded, but Sting did not know that his fiery rival was not the main cause of what was going on. Some parts of Magnolia had been destroyed by Thorn's spells that were a combination of Heavenly Body Magic and Fairy Magic, and putting those two types of magic together could only create a large amount of trouble. Sting had stayed inside the guild with his friends, but he did look a bit uneasy about what could be happening over at Fairy Tail.
He had noticed that Lucy was looking pretty grim while they sat down at a table together, and worry had entered her cocoa brown eyes. Sting was curious about why his girlfriend could be so worried about Fairy Tail when they had brawled every day as their way of having fun, but Sting was also good at communicating with his girlfriend through eye contact. He smirked confidently with no worries in his charming blue eyes, locking them with Lucy's brown eyes, and the white dragon slayer could also read Lucy's body language to get an idea of what seemed wrong to her.
The look of concern on Lucy's face had told Sting that she had heard brawls from Fairy Tail before, sometimes even hearing them all the way from a few towns over, but they never sounded as violent as this one. It had all ended about two hours ago, the noise having ceased to now make way for the calm ocean waves to be heard, and Sting definitely had to wonder what was up with the Fairy Tail guild. Neither Natsu or Gajeel would even think of destroying the entire place, but the sounds of the guild breaking apart were louder than a tree falling in the forest.
Sting had looked down at Lucy's spell book once again, seeing it change to being black this time, and he had really hoped that the book was not trying to tell Lucy to use those black spells that had made Thorn's darkness take over her heart and soul in the fight against Natsu and Erza on the fourth day of the Grand Magic Games. Sting and Lucy both knew that those spells were absolutely forbidden from being used, since the dark type of magic had a deadly aura that did not feel the same as the seven that had preceded it, and the two blonde mages both looked pretty nervous while knowing that those spells could not be used without dark side effects.
Rogue had told both of his friends in a stern manner while narrowing his red eyes, as he came out of the shadow of the candy machine with a chocolate bar, "Sting, I sensed that shadowy power once again. It's not coming from Lucy's book at all, and the smell of it is a lot like blood. Whoever was causing mayhem in the Fairy Tail guild earlier, it was not Natsu or Gajeel. The power that I'm sensing, even as we're all the way across the sea in Castelia, it seems very dark and very malicious. Fairy Tail is a light guild like Sabertooth, Lucy, and we do have to help our allies."
Sting exclaimed in an amazed manner while his blue eyes widened, having stuck to his theory from earlier, "After Wendy had read Valerie's diary to us in the Laverre Ruins, I kept wondering why it said that Thorn could not be allowed the join the powers of the heavens with the powers of the fairies! I bet that Thorn absorbed the magic of somebody in Fairy Tail, which would explain the pink blasts of energy that I heard some people mention outside, and now she's going to destroy Fairy Tail! After all, she tried to eliminate Erza at the beach. Karen was paired with Thorn, too, and she's the woman who had given Thorn's book of spells to Lucy."
At that moment, Lucy clenched her fists tightly while she began to look stern from remembering how Gray had left her a note about the fact that Karen had not been telling her everything that she needed to know about the book. She was actually hiding one piece of crucial information from Lucy, the main reason why Karen had actually thought that Lucy would be the perfect wielder for the spell book, and it did have to do with the fact that Lucy had a heart of gold and a soul that was as pure as silver. A person with that kind of purity was capable of wielding the book, but that was also the perfect type of person for Thorn's soul to inhabit.
As Lucy now knew that this was definitely the time for answers to be given from Karen, she took a few steps back from the table when a puddle of brown mud began to appear in front of her feet. Sting also looked very curious while taking in the familiar scents of the brown mud, seeing many more mud puddles form inside the guild, and they smelled a lot like chocolate. The white dragon slayer knew that it wasn't raining outside for mud to be forming from the wet dirt, and he could also smell the scent of a familiar woman. Her chocolate puddles were all bubbling hot, and several people from Fairy Tail came jumping out of them.
Natsu had been eating a bowl of hot melted chocolate with a spoon while he came out of a puddle to face Lucy, greatly startling her, and she was even more shocked to see Suna appearing behind her with a confident grin on her face. She was the egotistical girl who had been defeated by Lucy in the Desert Resort, having really overestimated herself back then, and now she seemed to be on the side of Fairy Tail. Gray and Juvia had also emerged from a nearby chocolate puddle, looking fully healed like everyone else, but they also began to scream about the boiling hot chocolate that they had gotten in their mouths.
It was true that Gray had taken everyone to an icy dimension with his spell, in hopes of healing them from the damage that Cana had caused, but Suna did not like the cold at all. She preferred hot weather, thus explaining why she would choose to fight people in the Desert Resort, and she had used her abilities of Earth Dragon Slayer Magic to take everyone back there. When she had gotten back there with everyone, Suna turned all of the sand into boiling hot chocolate with bowls and spoons that were made out of clay, and she also made the hot chocolate be like quicksand to send everyone down into portals that would send them to Sabertooth.
Upon remembering the blonde girl who had wielded the yellow spell book with the spells of Lightning Magic that had once been used to defeat her, as well as using that same book to kick other people's butts before and after that incident, Suna had made her magic take herself and the fairies to wherever Lucy was located. Since Thorn had once spoke of intentionally having Suna fight Lucy, why not become allies with the most important piece in her enemy's little plan to get some revenge? On top of that, Gray looked directly at Lucy in a stern manner while he knew that had to tell her what he should've promptly told her after fleeing from his fight with Thorn.
The ice mage told her in a concerned tone, having some regret in his dark blue eyes, "Listen up, Lucy and Sting! Thorn wants to take over the world and shroud it in darkness, but she'll do it after taking over the world in Lucy's body when that book of spells is complete! She also said how Lucy is her descendant, and how she also used Natsu as a puppet when he was feeling down about Lisanna breaking up with him because he was being a jerk to her! Natsu tried to attack Thorn for that, but she ate his flames and she just got Cana to destroy the Fairy Tail guild while letting her be in love with that woman named Karen! That lady from Team Sweet Melancholy had made those other girls out of shadows, since Lisanna found them in an alley on the last day of the tournament! Anyway, you're our only hope of stopping them! You've got to defeat Thorn, Lucy! She may be your ancestor, but you two are nothing alike! Thorn is pure evil!"
From hearing Gray's words, Sting could only watch as his girlfriend dropped her jaw and widened her eyes in shock. The ice mage had really given her a few major shocks by saying how Lisanna had broken up with Natsu, and she also could not believe that Thorn was planning to take over her body when the book of spells was complete. That was what Karen had been hiding from her, ever since she had discovered that Lucy was the girl who could break the magic seal on the book, and that woman with the silvery-blue hair also now had Cana in her clutches. Karen had helped Lucy start off on a pretty long journey to change from her past self, but now Lucy found it clear that the woman who was supposedly her friend at one time had really been nothing more than Thorn's assistant in their wicked game of chess.
She angrily clenched her fists at the fact that she had been led on like a puppet, and Karen had definitely used Lucy's bitter feelings about Natsu to her advantage. While Lucy would definitely be getting stronger, as she had collected the first seven light types of magic from across the globe, she would also be doing Karen's dirty work for her. She needed Lucy to become powerful enough to the point where Thorn would be unleashed, and the brown-eyed girl had done exactly what Karen wanted her to do. Lucy had been used like a pawn by her fake friend, but she didn't even know that she was led on this long because she was a more valuable chess piece.
Sting asked Lucy and Rogue in a calm tone, looking confident while Rufus and Orga had walked over to the trio with smiles on their faces, "Well, what are we waiting for? If there's an evil person bent on taking over the world, isn't it our job as wizards to try and stop them? If Fairy Tail cannot stop a dark woman from annihilating their guild, then can't we try and stop her before she gets way out of hand? Isn't this our world that we have to protect? Guys, let's go show Lucy's evil ancestor and that shadowy assistant of hers who the most powerful mages are!"
Natsu could only fold his arms while looking a bit jealous at the sight of his blond rival kissing Lucy on the lips, before smiling confidently at her and seeing her use the Heavenly Ring spell to reach the battlefield because all of the boats were out on voyages right now. They were obviously going to head right on over to Magnolia, not even knowing exactly how powerful Thorn could be, and the fire dragon slayer wondered how Lucy could just go charging into a battle like that Sting. Natsu still thought that she had to be crazy to go up against a powerful enemy, but he did not know about the many opponents that Lucy had faced on her journey.
Meanwhile...
Thorn had made the rubble of her former guild vanish into a large shadowy puddle, smiling evilly at the thought of the fairies now all being dead, and her blood red eyes were filled with malice while she stood on top of the black puddle for a few moments. She could feel something large rising up out of the shadows, going up into the air at high speeds, and it was none other than the Fairy Tail guild's building. It was actually the shadow of the building taking on a physical form, except the building did not have the insignia of Fairy Tail on the orange banner. Instead, it had a black flame on the banner to represent Thorn's beginning of her dark world.
The demonic witch had made a black aura appear in her left hand, concentrating tons of malicious energy in it to make the aura grow to the size of her hand, and Thorn continued to smile evilly while she threw the black aura up into the air. It exploded at the point of where the flame had reached its highest height, creating a large black blast of Shadow Demon Magic that filled the skies, but that was no ordinary flame. Its blast had been quite large, and the dark waves of that blast had made the clear blue sky become black with darkness. The shadows of the darkness had also obscured the sun, setting the stage for what was going to happen.
This darkness had caused the powers of Thorn's Shadow Demon Magic to grow much more powerful, and the vicious look in her blood red eyes could tell anyone that she was definitely in the mood for this. She had actually attacked the fairies as bait to make Lucy come to her, wanting the blonde mage to fight for the lives of her friends, and the black-haired demon could only have a pleased smirk on her face from seeing Karen come out of a shadowy puddle while wearing her yellow top with white jeans. She had an evil smile on her face, giggling about how the plan was nearing its completion, and Cana had came out of the black puddle as well.
Cana had been giggling a bit while she wondered how Lucy would react to all of the news, wanting to see if her friend would be foolish enough to try and convince the brown-haired mage to become good again, and she had faith in her dark mistress. Cana was hoping for Thorn to reign supreme in a beautiful world of darkness, and that would also let her be with Karen for an eternity. The woman with silvery-blue hair had turned around while Cana gently stroked her back with her gentle fingers to playfully get Karen's attention, and the deceptive woman responded nicely by giving Cana a soft kiss on the lips while putting her arms around the young girl's waist.
She asked Karen in a happy manner, blushing a light shade of pink while twiddling her thumbs with feelings of love in her purple eyes, "Karen, after we are done taking over the world, can you and I continue to make love? I just don't want us to only be Thorn's assistants in the great world of despair that she shall create for us, and I'm in love with you. Karen, you even woke me up with a delicious breakfast. Everything had tasted so great, and we had so much hot fun while being in the shower together. I loved it when you... washed me all over.."
Karen responded while smiling kindly, looking down sweetly at Cana's brown pants before her silvery-blue eyes shifted to the lacy black bra she wore as her only other article of clothing, "I'm feeling the love with you as well, Cana. Thorn will definitely allow us to have a romance, and she'll have many slaves. Some people will be influenced to the dark side, but others will have their shadows take over to show how wicked they truly are. I do give you breakfast and pleasure you, my cute young demonic maiden, but we both know that you're loving the feeling of evil flow through your veins. The darkness of malice shall give you power, Cana. You'll love it."
As Cana giggled more, continuing to blush while Karen kissed her forehead, a large pink ring of Heavenly Body Magic appeared behind them. It quickly exploded in a large pink blast, the sight of this making Thorn smirk excitedly, and the light from the blast faded away to reveal that Lucy and her friends from the Sabertooth guild had come here to stop Thorn from carrying out her vile plan to take over the world. On top of that, Lucy was also going to get revenge on the demonic woman for trying to kill all of her friends.
Her cocoa brown eyes shifted from seeing Thorn standing on top of her new guild to Karen and Cana who were standing across from her on the street in front of the guild. Lucy clenched her fists tightly while looking stern, knowing very well that she had a score to settle with Karen for hiding so many powerful and dark secrets about the spell book from her, and Lucy was also going to save Cana from the darkness of Thorn as well. The blonde mage did not know what the two shadowy women had done to Cana for her to be smirking evilly at her old friend right now, but Lucy was determined to not let them throw the world into a dark future.
Thorn jumped down from the top of the guild, landing perfectly on her feet in between the two opposing groups, and she took a few steps backwards to easily show Lucy that she was her opponent. She continued to smirk evilly at her blonde descendant who wielded the spell book, and Thorn's darkness had made the shadows give her an exact copy of the book. Since she was its former wielder, a shadowy copy was technically legal in this fight, and Thorn knew that she could use the book to its full extents. She scanned Lucy's body with her blood red eyes, seeing it as a great body to take over, but Thorn just had to ask why Lucy looked so angry with her.
Karen could only guess to herself that Lucy had probably figured out her true nature, really surprising the shadowy woman with the fact that it had taken this long, and she gently ran her left hand through her own silvery-blue hair while smiling at the fact that this was definitely going to be a pretty heated battle between two sorceresses. Karen looked over at Lucy's friends, seeing Sting and Rogue both look pretty cautious because of the dark power that they could sense from her, and she could that this battle would probably not end so well for them.
"We finally meet, little girl. I'm Thorn Heartfilia, your dark ancestor, and I'm the creator of the book you're wielding. I used to be in Fairy Tail, until Mavis excommunicated me from the guild like the bitch she is. My revenge may not have happened back then, but it will happen in this time. I must say, even Karen found it to be quite surprising that we came from the same family tree. However, those similarities give us our differences as well. As more of the seals became broken, I could tell that you did not use your powers for malice at all. Instead, you had the nerve to make my spells be used in good ways. I will take over your body, and the world will be mine."
Lucy exclaimed angrily, clenching her fists tightly while looking straight at Thorn with fierceness in her cocoa brown eyes, "No one is going to control my body, except for me! You have the nerve to try and say that you now want my body, but having my body isn't the same as having my heart and personality! We are nothing alike, Thorn, and I'm sure that the book would be able to sense that! I'm not going to let you take over the world for dark purposes, you demonic bitch, and I'm going to take you and Karen down for having sadistic fun in your twisted game of chess!"
Thorn smirked at this challenge, and what better way would there be to take over the world with her original book when she won it back? The spell books were not on the same level, seeing as Thorn could instantly create spells with their power levels and effects. She began to laugh evilly, knowing Lucy and her friends would perish and fall to her feet. Besides, Thorn secretly had spells that Lucy hadn't accessed yet. Quite underhanded, was she not? Well, Lucy was dealing with the dark ancestor of the Heartfilia family. If Thorn could fight as good as she was at being sneaky, how powerful could she possibly be?
The black-haired demon started this fight off with a spell known as Fire Demon's Lava Flowers, and she unleashed several small fireballs from her mouth, and they came down towards Lucy's group. Everyone quickly spread out and leapt back, but Lucy looked astounded when the attacks suddenly struck her from behind and created red blasts of Fire Demon Magic! She could feel the intense heat of the attacks, more intense than the heat from Natsu's flames or even Lucy's own fire, and she screamed in pain when more fireballs began to attack her from all directions at high speeds! Lucy fell to her knees, after being caught in so many fiery explosions, but she quickly got up to counterattack while inhaling the flames that had been created from Thorn's attacks to restore her energy.
Lucy proceeded to use the spell that was known as Magma Liquid, hoping to have Thorn be hardened in a shell of fiery goop, and the blonde mage shot out seven blobs of volcanic liquid from her mouth. Lucy thought that the burning liquid would be something that Thorn could not defend against, since the volcanic goop would harden before exploding when it hit its target, but her confident smile just had to be a way of tempting fate to not smile on her in this moment. Thorn noticed that the seven blobs of volcanic liquid were headed straight for her, but she immediately created a spell to counter them.
It was known as Fire Demon's Lava Vortex, and this move caused Thorn's blood red eyes to glow with malice while she used her mind to turn Lucy's red blobs of goop into a darker shade of red. They were now being controlled by Thorn, merging together while turning into a large vortex of dark red flames, and Thorn simply snapped her fingers while smirking evilly to send the fiery vortex towards Lucy at high speeds! It hit the blonde mage head on, causing a fiery explosion to transpire, and the side effect of this spell made the explosive fireballs head towards some buildings in Magnolia to create the hellish fires that Thorn wanted in her world of darkness.
After the red smoke faded away, as she inhaled the flames, everyone could see that Lucy had taken damage from that powerful attack. She coughed up some blood while trying to stand up, and the blonde mage had not realized that Thorn's demonic flames had a serious side effect of damaging her before the energy would heal her. Seeing that she could not win with fire, Lucy focused on her determination to beat her dark ancestor. This caused Lucy's red book to now become orange, representing Earth Magic, and she could now see that long-range attacks would not work on Thorn. The evil sorceress also made her red spell book change to the color of orange, and both girls were definitely getting ready to rumble.
This time, Lucy had started things off with the fifth spell of Earth Magic. It was known as Rocky Detonation, and this spell caused the rubble of a destroyed building nearby to float upward from the ground. Lucy sent all of the large pieces of rubble towards Thorn, running towards her while sending small pieces of earth towards her as well, and the blonde mage hoped that this little idea of hers would work. She watched carefully while seeing Thorn punch all of the pieces of earth, seeing them all create orange blasts of Earth Magic, and Lucy even used one of the blasts to propel herself high into the air to be above her opponent.
Lucy had used all of the blasts as a distraction, hoping to have kept Thorn from seeing what she would be up to, but the demonic woman had not fallen for Lucy's little trick. She had used the light from the first few blasts to sink down into a wide shadow, and some shadowy black hands had actually been punching the chunks of earth when numerous blasts could be seen by Sting and the others. Thorn had jumped high up out of a shadowy puddle, being away from the blasts, and she was now right underneath Lucy. Thorn had used the sixth spell of Earth Magic, Stone Slam, and it caused a large chunk of rubble to break apart into smaller stones.
Thorn had giggled in a malicious manner while commanding the stones to head straight up to where she and Lucy were, and the stones followed her exact orders. They made large orange blasts of Earth Magic occur in midair, sending Thorn much higher into the air with Lucy, and the dark witch proceeded to kick Lucy in the back several times with brutal force. Lucy screamed in pain while this was going on, and she nearly choked when Thorn wrapped her arms around her waist to constrict her tightly like a snake. She began to spin rapidly while they began to descend to the ground, but Thorn would not allow Lucy to have a soft landing of any kind.
"You're far too predictable, and you're not at a level where you can defeat me! Prepare to be annihilated by Earth Demon's Desert Funeral, Lucy!" Thorn yelled with a devilish look in her blood red eyes, as she began to slow down with the spin while seeing Lucy look dizzy, and she threw the blonde mage down at some boulders that were headed straight for her from many directions! Orange explosions occurred whenever the boulders slammed into Lucy, causing massive damage to her body, and she screamed in pain while coughing up more blood as she felt a few bones get broken. Some spikes of earth rose from under where she'd land, and Thorn smiled viciously at the second half of her attack beginning to take place.
While Lucy opened her cocoa brown eyes, trying to take away the pain of the explosions and the bleeding wounds on her body, she was only met with more bad luck when Thorn's right hand grabbed her neck tightly while they were both heading towards the spikes. However, Thorn quickly released her grip on Lucy's neck to follow up with a slamming kick to the blonde mage's chest. That kick made Lucy bite her lip to keep herself from screaming, feeling more bones shatter, and a large orange blast of Earth Magic transpired when she was sent smashing into the earth spikes! Lucy could be heard yelling in pure pain, and the dragon slayers smelled her blood.
Sting couldn't believe that Thorn was powerful enough to be throwing Lucy around like this, and he was shocked to see Thorn countering the spells perfectly like she really was the book's creator. Could anything stop her? Sting noticed the smoke clearing, only for him to look utterly frightened at the sight of Thorn stomping her left foot on Lucy's chest and hearing his girlfriend scream in pain. Not wanting to see her suffer anymore, Sting unleashed his White Dragon's Roar at the demonic woman. He shot out the white laser beam from his mouth, doing it at full power, and the attack hit Thorn right in the stomach.
The force of his attack had been strong enough to push Thorn back 100 feet, making her be distanced from Lucy, and Sting's attack had sent her rolling across the ground. The attack had hit Thorn right in the stomach, making her cough up some blood, and the light from Sting's spell had caused Thorn to feel a little bit injured by it. She could feel a slight burn on her stomach, having the injury fade away quickly by inhaling some air to bring in the healing ability of Wind Magic, and Thorn felt better upon being rid of the injury. Even though she was seemingly invincible, Thorn was obviously not focusing her attention on the other Sabertooth mages.
"All right, who the hell thinks they can just squirm their way into this battle?! You must really want me to make you get fried by my electricity, don't you?! I'm sure that you all know that I attempt to kill anyone who tries to screw with my plans, right?!" Thorn asked the four males from Sabertooth, as her book now turned yellow and she began to charge up yellow lightning in her left palm.
Lucy exclaimed fiercely while she struggled to stand up, as her spell book turned yellow as well, "If you're a master sorceress, falling for a distraction is a really big mistake! If fire and earth won't do a thing to you, then let's see if you like being shocked!"
The blonde girl had narrowed her cocoa brown eyes at Thorn, before proceeding to move at lightning speed for her chance to make another plan. Lucy had grabbed some of the rubble, making many piles of it in a long zigzag trail between herself and Thorn, and Lucy proceeded to use the Electric Curve spell. She shot out a beam of yellow lightning from her left hand, letting it hit the first pile of rubble in the zigzag line, and it moved like a pinball to hit the other nine piles. Every curve that it took had caused the spell to grow bigger, faster, and it was also stronger.
Upon seeing that Thorn had simply placed her hand against the last pile of rubble that had been hit by the beam of lightning, Lucy knew that she had to end this battle quickly. She followed up with the eighth spell of Lightning Magic, the spell known as Electric Vortex, and this move had caused a large vortex of yellow lightning to be fired from Lucy's mouth. It grew stronger from hitting every pile of rubble in the chain, evolving in every way while absorbing the electricity, and the vortex of electricity was now nine times bigger, stronger, and faster than before. As it headed towards Thorn, Lucy smiled softly with the hopes of this battle ending quickly.
The Electric Vortex spell, combined with Electric Curve, had made an enormous yellow blast of electricity transpire! It blinded everyone's eyes while the yellow light stuck around for a few minutes, being intensely bright, and Lucy truly thought that not even Thorn could stand up to a spell like that. Her most powerful move had been enhanced nine times, but was it enough to bring down a dark demon like Thorn? Lucy fell to her knees while panting heavily, having sustained serious injuries from Thorn's brutality, and she had hoped that her prediction had come true.
However, Lucy just had to tempt fate into being unkind to her. The yellow smoke cleared on Thorn's side of the battlefield, and Lucy widened her eyes in shock from what she was seeing. Thorn had created a spell known as Electric Paralysis Sword, a yellow sword being in her hands while it had seemingly taken in all the power from Lucy's attack, and the black-haired woman swung her sword quickly like she was cutting the air. This caused a long jet of yellow lightning to head straight for Lucy, growing with distance, but there was no explosion upon contact. Instead, Lucy found herself being severely electrocuted and paralyzed by Thorn's sneaky spell.
This wasn't just a paralysis move, though. Lucy could feel the lightning charring her skin, tearing through her body like it was going to kill her, and she coughed up much more blood while feeling agonizing pain from the electricity going through her body. Her spells were being torn through, one after another, and tears began to form in her cocoa brown eyes. This battle was completely hopeless, and the odds were slammed against her. What could stop Thorn? What could prevent Lucy from meeting her end? Her body began to tremble, from seeing the vicious look in Thorn's eyes, and she felt like she wanted to run far away from here.
No matter what spell she used, Thorn would just counter it with something even trickier or even more powerful. Sting's distraction might've only been good for that one time earlier, and Lucy imagined Thorn to be towering over her now. Was she going to die here? Would the world fall into darkness? Thorn's evil laughter kept resonating in her mind, and the darkened sky didn't make it any better. She could also see Cana and Karen looking so pleased to see Lucy looking like she was out of ideas, and Lucy felt bad for not being able to save her brown-haired friend from the darkness of Thorn Heartfilia.
"You should really feel bad to be a descendant of the Heartfilia family, Lucy. You and I are nothing alike, and you don't even know how to be on the same level as me. Your skills are far too weak, and they are very disgraceful. You should very well that of the three types of slayers and beings to exist, the demon slayers and the demons are the strongest of the trios. There is nothing that you can do to stop me, and I will enjoy filling your soul with my darkness to use the book to its fullest extent. This is where you meet your end, Lucy, but I will forgive you for opposing me after I rule the world with your friends being my obedient slaves." Thorn explained to Lucy in a vicious manner while a large pink aura surrounded her body, malice in her blood red eyes.
In an instant, several tiny and golden star-shaped shields floated in midair around Lucy. She could only breathe heavily and stay on her knees, still feeling the lightning's paralysis overtaking her body. The golden shields began to spin like shuriken, as they made sharp cuts and tears on her body, and the rest of them began to attach themselves to the brown-eyed girl. Lucy was screaming in pain while her clothes now became torn, the cuts on her body causing her to lose more blood, and there was nothing that she could do. Even if Sting tried to help, wouldn't Thorn just kill him as well?
She could hear Thorn's deadly footsteps coming towards her, and Lucy could only let tears fall from her eyes when she realized that it was all over for her. She had come so far, only to probably die in the end. She regretted not being able to be with Sting any longer, and she wanted to have a great future with him. She never told him this, but she sometimes envisioned a happy family with him later on. Now her aspirations were being torn away from her, and she could only wish that she could tell him how much she loved him and believed in him. Her heart palpitated wildly from realizing these were her last moments of life, and the dark world would begin.
Karen told Lucy with an evil smirk on her face, happy about how this had all turned out, "It's always important to trust a person that you know. Really, the moment that you trusted me enough to help me open the book was the moment that you dug your own grave. It really was nice to know you, young blonde maiden, and I'll take good care of Cana while we bring about the age of darkness upon everyone on Earthland. Maybe you'll get smarter in the afterlife as a soul, wandering the world while wishing you could correct your pathetic mistake of ever being so gullible to help someone offering you a book after one strangely goes missing from Fairy Tail."
Thorn shouted with a brutal and dark facial expression, as she stood in front of the crying blonde mage, "After I kill you, just know that your spirit will be taken over by my darkness. Enjoy having me take over your body like I did in the Grand Magic Games, but it will be permanent this time. It's time for you to die like the useless trash you are, you pathetic sorceress! Heavenly stars, maintain your celestial cling and make this girl's destruction be the dawn of my dark world! Even Mavis and Zeref will have to bow down to me!"
The pink stars immediately detonated like bombs, creating massive pink blasts of energy that could be seen from every part of Fiore. Their power was obviously destructive, since every building in Magnolia began to be obliterated. Thorn laughed evilly, having a demonic smirk on her face when realizing that there was no one left to stop her. She had heard her opponent's final screams of terror, and smiled when she saw the puddle of blood spreading outward from where Lucy's body probably was right now. The long game of chess was now over, and Karen could only laugh in a devious manner while knowing that the darkness was about to take over. Cana also smirked devilishly at the sight of the smoke clearing up, and she saw Lucy being unconscious while her body lay motionless.
"No... Please, no... It can't end like this, LUCY!" Sting shouted with a horrified facial expression, as he fell to his knees while hoping that the worst possible outcome of this fight had not truly transpired.
As Sting began to tremble, however, his eyes widened in shock from noticing that a certain item was around Lucy's neck. It was the white heart-shaped pendant from before, the same pendant that was attached to a necklace of fine golden beads, and Sting had not remembered about that item until now. It was the pendant that Lucy had used for a transformation (Go back to Chapter 6, if you need your memory refreshed), and it had not been used in quite some time. Now that Lucy's spells had evolved and changed so much, could the pendant have had some of its own new uses?
The white dragon slayer could only clench his fists angrily now, mad at the fact that Lucy had been killed by such a vicious demon, and he had been such a fool to leave it all up to her. Sting looked at Rogue and the others with anger in his eyes, the same angry look he gave Jiemma from when he had almost killed Lector, and Sting proceeded to glare at Thorn while noticing that the black-haired demon was really overestimating herself. If Thorn wanted to take over Lucy's body, then that end to her plan would have to wait. Right now, as he charged towards her Sting would make her see the light while showing her that a devilish shadow's natural weakness is its complete opposite. Upon remembering Darcy's words in the tower, Sting was going to try and play this game of chess with a plan of his own.
How was the 37th chapter? Did you like it? Sorry for not showing off Sting's new moves more, but they will be shown in the second part of this thrilling battle! Lucy is not dead, so don't worry. Karen will also explain everything to Sting, since the search for a potential sorceress was never talked about much until now. Anyway, will the book do something unexpected? Does a certain spirit in the book finally bond with Lucy to stop Thorn? How will this all end? Standby for the update!
