Christian's POV
I walked towards The Edgewater, and Eric was there, with a belt in his arms. A Saint Andrews' cross was in front of him. I heard whimpers… cries… I wanted to move towards the voice but every time I was going forward, the distance was increasing. I ran towards the crying voice.
'Yes… enjoy the pain…' I recognised Eric's voice.
'Eric…' She replied. I recognised the broken voice as my kid's. I moved forward and finally reached to Eric before he hit her again. I jumped him from behind. I turned him over and started hitting him over and over in his face. Blood spluttered from his face. I couldn't recognise it as a human again. I kept knocking him over, until finally he stopped resisting, and his body lay limp in my hands.
'Christian… Christian wake up!' Ana shook me from my shoulders as I shot up. 'Christian…' She asked again in concern. 'Are you ok?'
'Yeah… It's… It's just a nightmare…' I replied as I rubbed my face and checked the time on the bedside cabinet. '7.05am…'
'Christian…' She tried again as she rubbed my back gently.
'I'm ok Ana…'
'Christian this is not going to work if you're not going to talk to me…' She insisted. 'You tell your daughter to let you in… you need to set example by letting others in first…' She reasoned.
'Ana…' I said again as I looked deeply into her eyes.
'Christian… please… don't shut me out…'
'It's… I have this deep need to kill that fucker… I can't get it out of my mind Ana…' I confessed. 'I can't help but picture her…' I stopped. 'I couldn't protect her… I didn't get to her on time…'
'Christian…'
'I know what you're going to say Ana…'
'Then stop blaming yourself…' She insisted again as he we heard something break followed by more things crashing to the floor. We quickly got up and followed the sound. We made our way to our daughter's room, and there she was breaking everything that Eric had given her in the 3 weeks they knew each other. Frames, vases, glasses, the watch he got her… there were pictures thorn away, the soft toys in a box, and she was on her knees still throwing things with sobs wrecking her body.
We both moved forward as if on cue. I didn't know how to handle this. Mia did the same when she broke up with her boyfriend. My mum took care of it while dad held her from hurting herself… but this was different… I went down and hugged her close to me getting her away from everything. I held her tighter to me. I wanted to take all the pain away. She tried fighting me. I knew she wanted to get rid of every memory… but this wasn't the way… this was anger…
'Sera, stop fighting me!' I held her tighter. I was more worried that she'll hurt herself rather than me. I rested my back to the wardrobe as her fight subsided. She held tight to my shirt and cried. It broke my heart seeing her broken. I rubbed her back gently, while Ana picked up the pieces from the floor.
'Christian… I'll take care of here… take her out…' She said gently as I lifted her off and moved to our bedroom. She held tight to me letting me comfort her. I didn't want to let go and I was grateful that she felt the same.
'Shh peanut…' I tried as I rubbed her back gently. I saw my father do this to Mia… I tried bringing back memories on how he dealt with Mia. He just remained with her saying warming, soothing words in her ear. I remember myself eaves dropping while my mother took care of the mess and got rid of every memory. I couldn't do this… what was I supposed to say to her? I was never prepared for this. Maybe Ana was right… maybe I should tell her about Elena and me…
'No Christian… No… you are not going to put it on her…' I thought to myself.
'Honey…' I tried. 'You're exhausting yourself…' I hugged her tighter. 'Please tell me… what wrong?'
'I don't want anything that reminds me of him…' She chocked. 'I just couldn't take it anymore… It's all my fault… I had to be stupid…'
'Shh peanut…' I tried again as I soothed her gently. 'I know you're hurting, but you have to let me in… you have to tell me what he did to you…' I continued as she shook her head in disagreement. 'Please Sera… Please tell me…'
'I can't…' She chocked. 'I don't want to remember…'
'Shh honey…' I said again as I placed her on Ana's side. I took a look at her face and realized that she hadn't got any sleep. Her eyes were puffy her face was red. I got up and brought her the medication that John had prescribed to get her to calm down. I brought her a glass of water. 'You have to take these…' I tried as she pursed her lips. 'There's no use in fighting me on this Sera… you have to take them… or else I can call your grandfather and he'll gladly come and sedate you.'
'You wouldn't…' She chocked.
'Try me…' I challenged. 'You're not getting out of this one.'
'I'm not crazy…' She replied as she let her gaze drop.
'Baby!' I quickly cradled her. 'I know you're not! I never thought you were peanut… I'm worried about you… I'm scared you're going to try something… I don't want you hurting yourself…' I admitted as I hugged her tight to my chest.
'You don't think I'm crazy?'
'Unbelievably stupid to go and face Eric alone yes… but never crazy…' I comforted slowly.
'I was stupid…'
'Sera, you should never make rash decisions. Rash decisions are always the worst. Whenever you want to face someone tell us… I would have come with you and beat him down…'
'I believed him dad… I believed him instead of you…'
'Shh…'
'I know I've let you and mum down… you expected more from me…'
'Peanut… you did wrong, but blaming yourself…'
'Dad please… just ground me…' She begged.
'What?' I asked confused.
'If you ground me I'll feel better… you're trying to make it seem like I did nothing wrong… I was stupid…'
'Stop it Sera… Stop it!' I ordered sternly. 'I'm not going to ground you… you paid for your mistake already… it's no use putting you into more misery…'
'You can't hurt a person who's already been hurt too many times…'
'What do you mean?'
'Nothing…' She replied again as she rubbed her eyes. I took back the glass and handed it to her.
'You're not going to get out of this… You're swallowing this and you are going to sleep…'
'Dad…'
'Now Sera…' I ordered as I handed her the medicine. 'Sera, if you won't take them…' I warned again as she cut me off.
'Dad, I don't want to be dependent on these…'
'Sera, you need them… I won't be giving them to you if you don't need them…' I said again as I lifted her chin. 'I'll promise you this, if I see that you are managing to rest, I won't give them to you again.' I said again. She took a minute to see if I was lying to her, but finally she swallowed them. I took the glass from her hand and held her close to me.
'I lost your trust haven't I?' She started slowly.
'Well, for now I'm not letting you out of my sight…' I started. '…but slowly… we'll get there… I need to know that you're ok… I need you to talk to me to start trusting you again. You took a rash decision without consulting us…'
'I never had too…' She replied as he eyes started to flutter.
'What do you mean?' I asked again shocked.
'When you were barely home… I took decisions on my own… Sometimes I… I told Taylor… or Gail…' She continued. 'You were never there… sometimes I tried calling you both at work… but you both hung up on me or sent me a text that you're in a meeting… by time I started giving up on you…'
'Why haven't you told us this?'
'…because…' She continued, as her grip loosened. 'I wanted to start over… I didn't want you to think that I hold grudges…'
'…but you don't…'
'I don't…' She smirked weakly. '…but I'm afraid we're going back to what we were dad… Dad I don't know you nor mum… All I know about you are superficial things. I don't know you personally… I don't know exactly how you think… I don't know anything… all I have are memories of you… of both mum and you…' She explained.
'Why haven't you told us this peanut?'
'What were you going to do? Turn back time dad? Besides… there's nothing you can say or do to make it all better…'
'There are a lot of things we can do… we can talk…'
'Dad… you know yourself that you don't like talking or opening up…' She mumbled slowly.
'Peanut! For you we'll do anything…' I insisted again as I felt her breathing evening out. 'Baby?'
'Mhmm?'
'Shhh… sleep honey…' I finished as I realized that her body finally lost its fight. I finally knew how she truly felt. She made it seem so easy on forgiving us. I guess now I know that this is how she truly feels. We ruined our relationship… and coming to think of it… we don't know each other personally… I don't know what her favourite colour is… what her favourite dish is… what her favourite song or store she has… what her favourite book is… there was nothing I knew about her… This had to change… We were too caught up into our issues that we pushed her away for so long that we lost track of every important detail into life.
'Christian, Mr. Grey and the other parents are in your study…' Gail informed Ana and I.
'Thank you Gail…' I replied as Ana stood up and handed her the box in the corner.
'Please, could you do me a favour and throw this away?'
'Right away Ana…' She smiled as we made our way to my study. My father was already deep in conversation with one of the family. By the look of their face, I could see that they were Katie's parents. She had her mother's eyes and her father's hair.
'Son…' My father greeted me as both Ana and I moved forward. 'How are you holding up?' He whispered in my ear.
'Do you have a minute later? We'd like to talk to you…' I confessed.
'Yes sure son… any time.' He smiled.
'Mr. Grey… we're very sorry about your daughter.' The Peter's approached me. 'I know what you're going through.'
'Yes… which is why I gathered you here…' I started. 'If we all join and reckon our forces, we can put the person responsible to all this behind bars.'
'Mr. Grey…'
'Please call me Christian.' I insisted.
'Christian, do you think that if we all could we wouldn't have already put this Vincent behind bars?' Michael asked.
'His name is Eric…' I corrected.
'He was a Richard with my daughter…' Annalise added.
'He went by 6 names in total…' Ana clarified.
'I know you are parent's and want to keep your daughter's safe… we all went through the same experience…'
'I'm sorry Christian… I know you mean well, but I don't want my daughter to relive her past… She went through enough already…' Stephen stood up.
'I know how you may feel all… I'm a father myself… but I have some dirt on him too… if we all work together we can put him behind bars.'
'Christian just opening a court case is already a lot of money.' Keith spoke up. 'I'll do anything to see this dirt bag suffering… but not all of us afford it.'
'Which is why I'm offering to pay for everything… I want this fucker dead as much as you… but this is the only way…'
'How did you get our information?' Collin replied.
'It's easy to find you all on the database. I cannot work alone on this because it can back fire, but if we all work together, we would have a reasonable case.' I tried again. 'My father has all the case files on your daughters' case…'
'I know how bad it is… my granddaughter… I don't know her anymore… and I know how hard it is to all of you…' My father encouraged as all of them looked towards each other. I held Ana's hand tight into mine. I was hoping they say yes. Like this and with Leila's death we can put them all down.
'We're in…' The Peter's stood up. 'My daughter… She… she's still in a mental hospital... and probably I will never get my beautiful, lively daughter back… I want revenge.' Morris said again. '…and if you truly love your kids you would do the same. There are many girls that were abused and didn't have the opportunity to put the one guilty behind bars. We are all given the opportunity of a life time to bring justice…' He encouraged. 'I'm tired of watching my daughter struggle at nights… she's depressed… she's not mentally stable…'
'I'm in…' Collin stopped him.
'…and us too…' The last three families agreed.
I could finally feel that we were headed somewhere. Taylor found out that the FBI had the lead on Eric. Leila's unfortunate death served to something. I only had to take care of Elena now…
'Thank you for your cooperation.' Ana said as she handed everybody an envelope. 'In those you will find the time with the FBI Detective. Detective Waters is on our daughter's case. He'd be happy to gain more liability.' She continued. 'We will put him down…'
'Will you inform us about the court date?'
'Yes… I will personally handle everything myself. I will provide you with the best lawyers, and you don't have to worry about money. All I need you to do is allow us to work hand in hand to finally get closure.'
Ana's POV
3 hours later we were finally quiet. Christian was exhausted trying to find a way to get Elena in place. He had a plan that I still couldn't understand. He didn't want to tell me anything about it. He said that before he's sure, he wouldn't proceed… but I could see that things were moving forward. He brought all papers… all files from the Christenfeld's company. He was digging up their dirt, which although seemed reasonable – eye for eye, tooth for a tooth – it scared me because I wasn't prepared on how much prepared they were. I just wanted this to all end and finish. There was nothing I could do to help him and there was absolutely nothing I could do to take the pain of my daughter away.
I knew that sometime around she would want to start throwing away everything. I did it when I broke up with Gareth… and I guess every girl does it… I'm just glad I could have the joy on continuing breaking things instead of her… I lashed my anger… Christian remained staring at me when he saw the soft toys headless in the box. I was too angry to leave them intact. He smiled at it. We were on the same page on something.
The fear of losing her as Jason crept under my skin. It itched and made my vessels constrict. I was on constant alert mode. Any abnormal sound… too much quiet… everything bothered me. Everything was getting on my nerves. Our lives were totally turned upside down…
I went to call Sera from her room. I needed to change her dressings, however I could hear voices from Jason's nursery. The door wasn't completely closed. I could only guess who was there.
'You know Jason… there's absolutely nothing better in the world than being where you are… there is no worries… no thoughts… just plain happiness…' she continued. '…but I'd rather you were here… it would make life easier… since you've been gone everything changed in here… and now… I screwed up… I screwed up everything… dad seems to be losing his mind… mum… she's afraid on doing everything… and to top it off… I did the exact opposite to the untold rule Jason… You'd probably kick my ass too if you were here… My… our parent's probably hate me… and I deserve it all…' she continued as I entered.
'We don't hate you…' I replied as she looked at the door.
'Mum…'
'We don't hate you Sera… What you did is wrong… but we don't hate you…' I insisted as I moved forward and lay down beside her. 'Why don't you believe us?'
'…because when I went to the club behind your back, dad didn't speak to me for two months…' she admitted.
'That was different…'
'How is this any different mum? I snuck out to l'Estillo with Natalie, and look what happened. I didn't learn my lesson from there… then you asked…'
'Baby… you made a rash decision…' I held her gently.
'…and look where that ended you and dad…' She replied back.
'Do you do this often?' I asked her again.
'Talking to Jason? Yeah… he listens… I think…' She smiled. 'You know… we used to lay down here staring at those sparkly stars mum… we used to love making dotted shapes with them. I used to read him the same book on Humpty Dumpty.'
'Yeah… I remember Jason calling your father Humpty Dumpty…'
'Do you miss him mum?'
'I do… a lot…' I admitted. 'There is no day that passes that I don't think what he'll be doing… or what became of him. He was going to be a heart-breaker...' I smiled. '…I sometimes wonder what we all would have been if he was still here…' I continued as a tear escaped my eye as I held the palm of her hand into mine. '…but I made one promise to myself… I would never lose another child…'
'You won't lose another one mum…' She replied back.
'I'm scared Sera… I really am…' I admitted as I cried as I rested my head on her shoulder.
'From what mum?'
'Elena… Leila…'
'Leila's dead mum…'
'She is now…'
'What do you mean?'
'Jacqueline was Leila… Elena and her were complotting against us…' I admitted.
'No mum… I saw her shooting herself…'
'It was a ploy Sera… Remember when we fired Lorenzo?'
'Yes…'
'He was part of it too…' I explained. 'I don't want them to take you away from me… I need you…' I cried in despair as she hugged me tight.
'Shhh mummy… Everything will be ok… I promise you…' She started slowly. At times I felt like talking to Christian. She had a lot of his features, and their character was almost the same. 'Mum… you've been so strong…don't break down now… whoever is against us wants us to break down so they'll attack harder…' She continued as she rubbed my back. 'Please mummy don't cry! I love you…'
'I love you too honey…' I said again as I let go of the embrace and wiped my tears away. 'Have I ever told you how similar you are to your father?'
'It's the 6th time this month…' She smiled weakly.
'Come on…' I said again as I stood up. 'I need to change your dressings…'
'Um… I'll change them myself…' She replied as she avoided my eyes.
'Sera…'
'Please?'
'Do you know how to do it?'
'Mhmm…' She smiled weakly.
'Ok… but I want to make sure that you did them correctly.' I insisted again as I helped her up to her feet.
Christian's POV
'I thought I heard voices…' I noted as I joined them. 'What are you doing in here?' I asked Ana.
'Nothing Christian…' She smiled. 'Is everything ok?'
'Yeah… we have a lead…'
'Um… I'm going to my room…' Sera said before leaving.
'Sera?' I started.
'Yes dad?'
'Are you ok?'
'Mhmm…' She replied back as I moved forward towards her. 'Um… are you going to work tomorrow?'
'Yes… I have to pick up some paper work and I'll be back home in an hour or two… Do you want to come? I offered. I knew that Ana wasn't going to be home. She had a very important meeting to attend and although I trusted Gail with my daughter's welfare blindly, I still wanted to make sure that she'll be under my radar.'
'Um… I don't know…'
'Come on… you need to get out of the house some time or another…' I insisted.
'Your father is right…' Ana backed me up as she thought about it.
'I…'
'Come on… we can also gossip on my employees like last time…' I tried. We had a good laugh on how some dressed inappropriately.
'Dad… It's not that I don't want to come…'
'Then come to work with me… you've closed yourself within these four walls.'
'Ok… ok… I'll come with you to work…' She finally agreed.
The following morning wasn't easy. I could see my daughter back to her old rituals. They weren't that alarming, but I caught them immediately. I could take it away for now… but if this persisted… I had to do something. At around 7am we were already on the road to GEH. She kept walking behind me. I could see her from underneath my eye that she was panicking. She flinched every time I touched her shoulder… and she jumped whenever I talked to her after a long period of quiet. Her perkiness was gone… He smile was fake… she put up a diplomatic smile.
I had already cleared the desk where she could sit opposite to me. I brought the files and explained things to her clearly. She understood everything – I was glad of that… she was starting to immerse herself deeply into many projects. We split the paper work and worked on them together. Unlike last time, there was no sound… no laugh and no creak… just the sound of a electric kettle boiling and the sips of tea every now and then.
We were so caught up in our work that I didn't realise it was lunch time. I raised my head and rested my back to the chair. She was so absorbed. Her eyes kept darting on every line, and with her right hand she kept writing detailed notes on an A4 paper. I could see her leg shaking nervously and she was picking at her lips with her left hand. It was a habit that I hated she had. At times she turned and twisted the biro weirdly in her hand until she continued back at her work.
'Sera…' I called her gently trying to get her attention but it was no avail. She was so consumed. Maybe this was a bad idea bringing her to work. I knew how she worked… she'd immerse herself into work trying to forget everything… and she was forgetting everything around her. 'Sera…' I called her again as I touched her right hand gently while her head shot up immediately taking her hand away from mine.
'Yes…' She answered slowly. 'Am I doing something wrong?'
'No… no… you're doing your job perfectly well.' I smiled as I got up and fixed my tie. 'It's time for lunch…'
'Um… can I eat here?' She asked again.
'What? Why? We always took lunch in the cafeteria near the book store…' I turned facing her confused.
'I just need to get this work done…' She replied again as she avoided my eyes.
'Come on… work can wait…' I insisted as I lifted her chin gently.
'Dad… please… I'll eat here…' She insisted again. 'I really don't feel like going out…'
'You've been working for 4 hours straight!'
'Dad… please…' She begged.
'Ok… ok…' I replied. 'I'll bring take out and I'll eat here with you… I'll let Samantha know you'll be staying here if you need anything call…' I replied back, as I grabbed my keys.
'Thanks dad…'
'You're welcome peanut…' I smiled. 'Just please… don't escape from here… I'm trusting you…'
'Don't worry… the only things that will be escaping are these papers…' She teased.
'I'll get you a salad… is that ok with you?'
'Yeah… sure…'
Sera's POV
I could see it in his eyes… He was suspecting something, but at least he didn't force me to go out again. I rummaged in my bag for my iPod and searched for a suitable piece of music. I put it on the highest volume it can go too and went back to my papers. These weren't that boring as I thought they were to be… only dad's handwriting was a bit illegible at times… and then he says that mine is hard to read…
I continued reading but a hand on my sides scared the crap out of me.
'Ms. Grey…' He greeted. 'I'm sorry to interrupt…' He smiled coyly as I quickly got up and removed the ear phones from my ear.
'Shoot…' I thought to myself. 'Dad… why are you taking long?'
