Chapter 22
Three days. Three long days. That's how long Anna had been waiting for Elsa's condition to improve. She had barely left the room. The only time she did was when the call of nature had gotten too strong. Her meals were brought to Elsa's room where Anna would pick at the food. Kristoff and Beth had tried to coax her out of the room, but to no avail. Eventually, they had just decided to give her space.
So here Anna was, sitting on a small wooden chair in Elsa's room, watching the trolls give Elsa more of that thick green substance. She stared on in mute facsination as they changed her bandages. These last few days have been miserable for her. She should be feeling happy that they've finally found some help for Elsa, but these last few days have finally caught up to her. She realized that, Elsa may never wake up from her coma because of too much-
Stop. You have to be strong for her! She wouldn't give up on you so why-
"Anna." Her head snapped toward the doorway where she found Kristoff standing there with a frown on his face. She was so caught up in her inner turmoil that she didn't notice the two trolls had left her alone in the room. She nodded to let him know to go on.
"Can I come in?" He asked. Anna nodded and grunted in approval. He moved inside the room, taking in his surroundings. There was a small desk in the corner that had some leftover food from Anna's breakfast scattered on it. He chuckled lightly before turning his attention back to Anna, who has moved her chair over to Elsa's bedside and was currently leaning face down on the bed.
"How are you feeling?" A heavy and uncomfortable silence filled the room. Kristoff soon found himself fidgeting where he was standing. He was about to take back his comment until he heard Anna sigh.
"Not good, Kristoff." The mountain man felt his heart clench at her tone of voice. The usually bubbly and charismatic tone, replaced with a small, weak one. Sighing, he walked over and put a hand on her shoulder, rubbing soothing circles on it.
"Hey I have an idea," he sat down on the bed and pushed Anna's body up so that he could look in her eyes.
"How about you come and eat lunch with me and Beth. It... It'll help us out a lot." He pleaded. He stared into her eyes trying to place any emotion other than despair. When another heavy silence settled over the room, he gave up. He slowly rose from the bed and walked to the door.
"It's okay Anna, you don't have to." He was just about to leave the room when a small frail voice stopped him.
"No, I... I want to go." He turned to look back and noticed that she was turned to him. Surprised, he smiled and gestured for her to come here. She glanced at Elsa from the corner of her eye, and sighed before she got up and slowly made her way across the room to Kristoff.
She looked up at him and smiled. "Lets go." She muttered more to herself. He smiled, genuinely as they walked down the sort hallway from the medical wing to the dining hall. Anna noticed that there was a lot more trolls walking around the facility. She still didn't know why the trolls had built one of these. Either way, right now, she could care less.
Kristoff pushed open a large door to reveal a very large room. There was a stone table sitting in the middle of the room. The table stretched to almost end to end, it was something Anna would describe as 'Insanely big table were 200 people could sit at.'
When Anna entered the room, the first thing she saw was the tables lone occupant. Beth, was seated on the far end of the table. Beside the top of the table. Anna and Kristoff started making their way down toward her. Once she saw them coming she quickly stood and ran over. She embraced Anna in a hug and whispered "it will be okay," in her ear.
When she pulled back she looked at Anna reassuringly and then took her place back at the table. Kristoff sat down at the head of the table with Beth to his right, while Anna sat down on his left.
Someone had already prepared the table with many vegetables and some sort of colorful rock sweets. Kristoff and Beth began to load up their plates with food, while Anna sat there with a few carrots on hers.
Kristoff and Beth would always try to start up a conversation, but would stop whenever it would turn to Elsa or something about Arendelle. It infuriated Anna and she finally snapped, when Kristoff abruptly stopped telling the story about when Elsa turned the courtyard into an ice rink.
"Enough jumping around this! I know that she may never wake up! Jeez stop treating me like I don't. I'm not a kid anymore, I know whats happening!" Anna yelled.
The room got deathly silent. Kristoff cleared his throat, seemingly annoyed. "Fine. I didn't want to ask this at lunch, but what are we going to do about Arendelle?"
Anna glared at him from the corner of her eye. She glanced at Beth out of the corner of her eye and noticed her head a downcast. Anna sighed and dropped her gaze. Finally Beth spoke up.
"What- what about the rebels, can't they help?" Kristoff sighed and thought about the idea for a moment.
"Yeah, they can, but they need the right motivation. Even though their homes have been destroyed some families separated, they need to feel like they are helping someone other than themselves. They need a leader."
Anna sat there as silence settled over the room. She shook her head. "I've had enough of this." She had gotten up from her seat and stormed out of the room. She didn't notice Kristoff or Beth hang their heads in shame.
Anna was quickly moving through the hallways not paying any attention to any of the other trolls. She quickly made her way to Elsa's room. She opened and entered the room and closed the door behind her. She threw herself into the old wooden chair that was in the room.
She didn't notice the slight groan emanate from the bed, until it said her name. "Anna?"
Anna looked up and her jaw unhinged itself.
"El-Elsa?!"
