Chapter 23
"El-Elsa?" Elsa's body started to shift on the bed, like she was running, to or from something. Her head turned rapidly back and forth on the pillow. Another soft groan escaped from her lips.
"Anna." The desperation in the small, frail voice finally snapped Anna out of her trance which caused her to quickly rush over to the bed Elsa was on. She examined Elsa's face for any sign of her waking up on her own. When none showed and she began to thrash around harder, Anna began to panic. She looked around the room for anything that might help her, but, unluckily, found nothing.
She looked back at Elsa, and noticed that her beautiful, elegant face, had changed to one of pain. Anna was now starting to hypervenilate. She started racking her brain to find any immediate solution. Out of nowhere an idea struck her. It was a long shot, but when Elsa was a kid she would have terrible nightmares. When they would occur, Mother would usually sing to make them go away.
Anna quickly climbed onto the bed, and wrapped her arms around Elsa's shoulders to cease their flailing. She pushed Elsa's head against her chest and began to sing:
"I love the way you wait for me,
Ever so patiently,
Waiting by an open flame,
Oblivious to how gorgeous you are,"
Elsa slowly started to stop flailing. This encouraged Anna to continue singing.
"How you tilt your face up in the air,
To take the scent that's lingering there,
How you find comfort like a queen,
With the finest poses I've ever seen."
Elsa body soon ceased move. She began to curl up against Anna, and make whimpering noises. Anna looked down and her heart clenched. She remembered when she and Elsa shared a room together and her mother would usually comfort her when she had a nightmare. She pulled Elsa close to her body and began to finish the song.
"Beautiful Elsa, love of my life,
You make me feel so free,
Let's run away together,
You and me."
Elsa's body slackened when she returned to a deep sleep. Anna looked down and stroked her platinum blonde hair out of her face. She smiled and hugged her close. Soon enough, Anna laid Elsa down on the bed and had gotten off of it, with hesitation.
She stood up and made her way to the door to get Grand Pabbie and tell him about what just happened. She opened the door slowly, and turned to look at Elsa one last time before exiting the room.
She turned around and closed the door. She stood there a moment with her head leaning against the hard wood of the door. She closed her eyes and relished in the silence for a moment.
"That was a beautiful song". Anna's head snapped to her left to find Kristoff standing there with his head down. Anna looked up and down his body, noticing that he looked defeated. She shrugged it off.
"Yeah it is. My mother would sing it to Elsa when she had nightmares. There is more to it, but that's all I can remember." Anna stood there looking at Kristoff, waiting for him to say something.
Kristoff sighed and finally looked up to make eye contact with her. "I'm sorry." Anna looked at him with a confused. He noticed it and sighed.
"I'm sorry about lunch, and anything else I did." near the end of his sentence his voice took the tone of desperation. Anna picked up on this.
"Kristoff, it's fine. Don't worry about it. I should be the one apologizing to you." Kristoff looked at her like she was growing a second head.
"Why would you need to apologize to me?" He moved so that he was standing beside Anna, looking down at her. She looked up at him.
"Because you wouldn't be involved in this if it wasn't for me." He noticed that there was un-shed tears glassing up her eyes. He pulled her in for a hug and whispered.
"There's nowhere else I want to be." Anna graciously returned the hug. They stood there for a little while enjoying each others company. When they pulled apart Anna looked up at Kristoff.
"Could you go find Grand Pabbie for me?" Kristoff chuckled and nodded his head. He turned and started to make his way down the hallway when Anna stopped him.
"Kristoff?" He stopped walking down the hallway and turned to face her. He nodded to let her to continue.
"Thank you." She muttered. Kristoff smiled and nodded his head again.
"You're welcome." With that he turned and started walking down the hallway again.
Anna sighed and turned back to Elsa's door. She slowly opened it and made her way inside, but stopped at what she saw. Elsa was sitting up on her bed examining the room when Anna walked in.
They made eye contact and just stared at each other. Until, Anna broke out into a huge smile and ran over to Elsa, embracing her into a hug.
"Elsa!" Anna began to sob on her shoulder. Elsa began rubbing soothing circles on her back. Once Anna had calmed down, Elsa asked the question that had been eating at her since she woke up.
"Anna," she croaked. Her voice hoarse from use. "What happened?" Anna pulled back and looked into Elsa's eyes.
"We got you out! We did it!" Elsa looked at Anna confused.
"Got me out? Got me out of where?" Anna was staring at Elsa like she had just morphed into something.
"You know, the prison." Elsa looked shocked. She shoo her head and looked back at Anna.
"What are you talking about? The last thing I remember is training in the courtyard with Baldr. Speaking of which, where are we?" Anna looked down at the floor, then back to Elsa. She was just about to open her mouth, when the door opened to reveal Kristoff and Grand Pabbie.
"I found him Anna- Elsa?!" Kristoff was taken aback at what he saw. Grand Pabbie made his way over to the bed and hopped onto it.
"Elsa dear, are you okay?" Grand Pabbie forced her to lay down on the bed.
"I feel okay, just a little weak." Grand Pabbie nodded and began to check her pulse. After a few moments Elsa spoke up.
"Grand Pabbie what happened? The last thing I remember is being in the courtyard with Baldr." Grand Pabbie sighed.
"You're not going to like this." He glanced at Anna and began the retelling of what happened.
