Chapter 24
Anna sat down beside Grand Pabbie while he was telling what happened. Anna nervously chewed on her fingernails and glanced around the room at various things. She noticed every now and again Elsa would sit up, only to grimace in pain and lay back down. She did this a total of five times before Grand Pabbie told her to stop.
"You may re-open wounds, and believe me, no one wants that." Elsa continued to shift on the bed, muttering, "How can I sit still for this?" She finally motioned for Grand Pabbie to continue.
Anna was still partly in shock from seeing Elsa wake up. She was starting to fel guilty for almost giving up hope for her. The only thing that jarred her from her own reality was when Elsa moved or Kristoff nudged her, and she was thankful for that. Eventually, Anna was able to snap out of her stupor and listen to the conversation.
"That's when they made the trip from the prison to here. You're all lucky to be alive. If it wasn't for the incident down by the docks at Arendelle, we might not be having this conversation." Grand Pabbie sighed and sat back in the wooden chair he was standing on.
Elsa, with her head still on the pillow, nodded with her eyes closed. "What happened down at the docks?"
Grand Pabbie sighed. "Rebels attacked some of the ships coming in. They were able to take a few down before falling back into the woods." Elsa turned and looked at Anna, when she opened her eyes Anna would've swore they had flames burning behind them.
"Who are these people that helped you free me?" This question wasn't directed toward Grand Pabbie, but Anna instead.
Anna stared back and shook her head, and began to tell who they were, or rather, what she knew about them.
"Well, they are refugees from other kingdoms that they have attacked. I know some of them are from Corona, Rustica, and even people from Arendelle. They have have lost their homes just like us, tell her Kristoff!" Anna motioned for Kristoff, who was mostly quiet until now, to pick up where Anna left off.
Kristoff shook his head and sighed. "Well, there was at least three hundred of them the last time I checked. They are mostly surviving civilians and POW's. Most of them want to fight back, but they lack the supplies, power, and numbers. With their leader dead I'm surprised they pulled off the raid at the docks. I would love to fight back against them with the people who want to fight back. To put it bluntly Elsa, I was hoping you would to. These people have went through hell and back. Elsa, you could be the turning point in this war. You could save all of Arendelle." When he finished he glanced an apologetic look at Anna and looked at the ground.
Anna looked crestfallen. Meanwhile Elsa looked at Kristoff with a thoughtful expression. Elsa rose in her bed to a sitting position.
"Pabbie, how long until I can go out?" Grand Pabbie looked confused and shocked by this question.
"You can't be implying what I think you are, are you?" Elsa thought for a moment and stole glances from Anna's shocked expression to Kristoff's hopeful one. She slowly nodded her head.
Anna gasped. "You can't be serious Elsa!" Anna looked at Elsa with a incredulous look on her face.
Elsa nodded. "I'm dead serious Anna. These people need to be put in their place, and I'll be damned if they hurt you or the kingdom and get away with it." Anna directed her gaze to the floor, while Kristoff laughed and slapped Anna's back.
"This is when we rise up and take back what was ours!" Elsa grinned when Kristoff said this.
Grand Pabbie grabbed everyone's attention again. "Well, it depends. I'd say you wounds will heal in about 4-5 days." Elsa nodded her head and looked back at Kristoff.
"We need to inform the rebels of their Queen returning. Would you travel and inform them?" Kristoff looked a bit skeptical at first, but it went away nearly as fast as it came.
"I'd be glad to." He said with one of his trademark smirks. Elsa nodded and looked at Anna, whose eyes shone with worry and respect. Elsa smiled.
Grand Pabbie cleared his throat. "If you're actually going to do this, you'll need to come up with a plan. We'll help with that part. I would like to have one soon. There are things we need to discuss in a more appropriate manner." Elsa thanked him.
Soon enough Kristoff and Grand Pabbie left to make preparations for Kristoff's trip, leaving Anna and Elsa alone in the room. Elsa shifted on the bed until there was room for Anna to sit down on it.
"Anna, we need to talk." Anna's mind raced thinking about what they could possibly need to talk about. She reluctantly, moved over and sat on the bed. Elsa looked at her and threw her arms around Anna.
"I'm sorry." Anna returned the embrace and rubbed soothing circles on Elsa's back. She didn't realize that Elsa had begun to weep on her shoulder.
When she realized it, Anna was confused. "Elsa why are you crying?" Anna pulled back and had Elsa face her.
"For leaving you. Anna I may not remember everything clearly, but some of my memories are all fuzzy. The one true image that stuck with me was in the throne room." Elsa cleared her throat. "I thought it was just a image my mind conjured up, but now I know. I'm sorry." Anna yanked Elsa back into an embrace.
Tears whetted Anna's eyes. When Elsa pulled back they stared into each others eyes. Anna stared deeply into Elsa's eyes while Elsa stared into hers. Anna could see multiple emotions in Elsa's eyes. Anna didn't even realize she was leaning in, until she met Elsa's lips in the middle.
The kiss lasted for several minutes. They broke apart only when they had to breathe. When they pulled apart, they rested their foreheads together. Elsa whispered, "I remember that night, Anna. I remember."
Anna and Elsa shared another embrace. Little did they know someone was standing outside their door, peeking through the crack, disbelieving what they saw.
