The darkness that had surrounded my mind slowly began to fade away. This emptiness was replaced by memories that I did not recognise, as if a completely different person was crawling into my mind. At the same time I started to gain feeling across what I assumed was my body, all numbness dissipating. Once again I was waking up from the blackness that had kept both my body and mind trapped.

As my sense of feeling began to return I could only feel the ground below me, it was as if I were lying down on a hard and cold stone floor. I tried to move my arms and legs however they didn't seem to move even an inch, still held paralysed by the darkness.

As I continued tried to move any part of my body a bright red light burst past my closed eye lids and seemed to be penetrating straight into my mind. The light seemed to fill both my vision and my mind, blocking off all of my senses and thought. The light was managing to get brighter and brighter with every passing moment causing a sharp pain to erupt through my body.

In reaction to the pain I tried to twist my head away from the source of the pain, this however only seemed to worsen the pain yet it managed dim the light passing through my eyelids. The pain caused by this light seemed to be burning through every section of my body, leaving my body numb once again.

But all with no warning both the red light and the pain vanished and I became suddenly aware of the ground below me. But unlike before this ground was both soft and extremely hot. I tried moving my arms around to feel the ground was lying on. By doing this I found that I had full control of my body, even if it was a little sluggish, and that the ground seemed to be hotter in some places than in others. These hotter places were too hot to touch and seemed to be emanating heat rather than just being hot.

I opened my eyes to see the warm, blackened ground beneath me. I looked directly around me and it looked as if I was lying in the centre of a large crater, a crater that would have been made from some sort of large explosion. The crater was around 10 metres in radius and along the edges I could see small flames flicking between dry blades of grass that had survived the explosion.

Looking past the crater I could see that I had landed on the outskirts of a tremendous forest, with trees at least 20 metres tall lined as far as I could see to both my left and right. However in the other direction a large mountain range pierced upwards and through the clouds, behind which I could see the faint glow of the moon. The mountains seemed not to vary in size and from this distance looked as if their snow covered paths would be impassable for even an experienced hiker.

But, even with these two imposing natural landmarks, I had no idea where I was or how I had got here. Broken memories and blurry images were racing past my eyes as I tried to place where I was. However the last thing I could remember was a tremendous clash of steel and a woman's pained scream. I closed my eye hard to try and remember what had happened but I could only conjure up the blurred image of a blonde haired woman.

At this point I knew that trying to dig deeper would likely be pointless and that I needed to try and find someone. I opened my eyes again and once more surveyed the scene around me. The small fires were slowly burning themselves out but the smoking crater was very unlikely to change any time soon. Although it seemed to be the middle of the night I could hear movement somewhere in the forest, seemingly the crater had attracted something that I would likely want to avoid.

So I cautiously pushed myself up form the ground, but as I began to move I heard a slight rattle of metal coming from my hip. I looked down to see that a sheathed longsword was attached to my belt. The hilt of the sword was heavily ordained, with the pommel being made in part by some gemstone, and the hand guard itself being fashioned into what looked like the shape of a dragon. I put my hand onto the leather hand grip and almost on instinct I pulled the blade from its sheath at lightning speed.

The blade itself seemed to shine, even in the faint light, and was a dark grey colour, different to any type of steel or iron I recognised. Although I didn't know why I had this sword, it felt scarily familiar in my hands, almost as if it were a part of my body and soul. Not seeing any reason to keep the blade out, I sheathed the sword and looked between the forest and mountains.

The vast expanse of trees looked much more habitable and I hoped that it would be relatively easy for me to find a path back to some sort of civilisation. However I could clearly see a number of shadows moving between the trees and never staying in sight for too long. I looked behind me at the mountain range and for some reason it looked much more inviting than it should have done considering the size and sharpness of its peaks.

As I stood looking at the mountain I heard a strange noise coming from around the forest, as if the wind were being beaten and thrown around at high speeds. This sound made my mind up, I kept my eyes towards the mountains and set off for them at a slight jog. At the edge of the crater I had to make a slight climb to get over the small dirt face the explosion had created. Once I was past the crater I picked up the speed of my running, but at the same time I could hear the insane winds coming closer and closer from behind me.

For a split second I looked over my shoulder to see at least 20 flying objects speeding towards me. Not knowing what I had seen I turned my head to try and recognise the shapes. Very quickly I realised that the shapes were those of people with large translucent red wings on their backs. From what I could see there was 25 of these flying people and they seemed to have formed a triangle like formation. Those at the front were in heavy armour, carrying long shields and spears, whilst those behind were carrying what seemed like wooden staffs tipped with a stone of some sort.

The sight of these flying people shocked me so much that I stopped running and just stood there staring at them, wondering what the hell was going on. But by stopping these people were very easily able to catch up to me and form a ring around me, spears pointing inwards and shields raised to form a protective barrier. From the uniformity in their red armour and clothing I realised that these were trained soldiers that were now surrounding me.

"Be at the ready lads! This one looks like a Fallen Knight!" This command was shouted out by a sharp, yet older sounding, voice somewhere within the red shield wall. I noticed that at the mention of the term 'Fallen Knight' the rigid formation seemed to collectively create distance from me, as if they were scared of a single un-armoured person. Yet even though they seemed to fear me, I had no idea as to what could have caused this fear.

But although I had little understanding of the situation, I found my hands slowly reaching for my sword and as soon as the sword was out of its sheath and in my hands only one thought came to my mind.

'Kill'
