"Are you sure you didn't forget anything?"
Rin sighed, hearing that same question from his mom for the nth time just for that morning. Not that he was complaining. After all, this is his first day in his new school, Iwatobi Elementary School. Going alone in this unfamiliar place, it was natural for his mother to be more worried than usual.
Wearing a toothy grin so as to ease the worries of his mother, he replied, "Don't worry Mom. Everything's in here already."
With her cheek leaning on her palm she tilted her head and asked, "Even Gou-chan's picture?"
"EH?" Rin blinked once, he thought he had just misheard her or she must've spoken it wrong, blinked twice and thrice, but his mom still looked the same. Yes, she really meant it"...HAHHHHH?!"
"You don't have any solo picture of her in your wallet?"
"Uhhh…Just our family picture. Wh—"
She knelt on the floor, equaling her son's height. She then held his shoulders firmly, "Are you sure you can survive the whole day just glancing on a picture you could barely see the adorable face of your beloved little sister?"
His jaw dropped. No words can express how he felt upon hearing his mother's words. It was just then when he just knew that in his mother's view, he had stooped down to that level; that he was already in the level of desperation.
Well yeah, he had some —includes thinking that Gou is the cutest little sister ever existed in the whole wide world that no living male human species deserve her until Rin Matsuoka lives; not even when he dies— sister complex on Gou, but not to that extent. And isn't it common knowledge that brothers adore their sisters? So, positive, he's just like any normal big brother.
"I knew this would be the case, so I've already prepared this."
She then took something from her pocket and placed it on her son's palm. Rin, still on a daze, mechanically stared at the palm his mom was holding.
"M-mom?" Rin called. He already had a bad feeling about this, but then, he still couldn't help but ask, "What is this?"
His mom beamed a smile to him, "Tadaaaaaaa~!", then took off her hands, "Special service! Gou-chan in her school swimsuit!"
At that instant, Rin gave it back to his mother without even looking at the picture —though a split second glance on the picture in which he firmly believed to be caused by gravity that his eyes looked down, not that he had seen anything. He swore it on his baby shark teeth.
With a flustered face, he immediately replied, "I don't need it! Mou, Mom. Gou will get mad at me for carrying around that kind of picture of her."
"I see. I understand.", said she, nodding to herself.
Sensing that his mom had already calmed down and can speak sensible words, he then changed the subject, "Where's Gou by the w—?"
"So, you want the 'sleeping Gou-chan'?"
And as though she had memorized well the contents of her pocket, she took out the exact picture, "…or was it the 'just-woke-up' Gou-chan? Or maybe the 'Kyaah-don't-peek' picture?",she continued, doing the same.
But then again, stubbornness runs in the blood of Matsuokas; and she was definitely the origin of that trait.
"Choose well, my dear son!"
"I won't!"
"Don't worry Oniichan, I have pictures of you in your swimming trunks here in my wallet."
He must be too focused retorting to his mother that he had not noticed the arrival of the youngest Matsuoka in the scene. His heart nearly stopped with her presence, "G-gou!", he had to calm down and act normal, "I-I didn't notice you there…" he continued.
And it's not like he really did something wrong, there was nothing to be ashamed of….and….wait. WAIT.
There was silence afterwards that had given Rin the perfect moment for realizing the meaning of Gou's statement which he had ignored; as he was overwhelmed by anxiety.
Then came the red tinged cheeks on Rin's face —that kind of flustered face which would urge anyone to tease him more simply because it would look more adorable.
Releasing himself from his mom's grip, he walked towards Gou, "HUH—?! GO—?! WHAT DID Y—?! ARE YOU SER—?! "
"No need to be shy Oniichan. I even show it to my classmates everyd—"
"THROW IT AWAAAAAAY!"
Gou giggled; stopping Rin from his worsening hysterical behavior.
"Just kidding."
Rin faced her; pinched her cheek as light as he could though it still elicited a feint 'Oww' from Gou, "Meanie.", he told her; and sighed of relief, "I'd be embarrassed to death if that was real."
Not in her wallet actually, but in her treasured ONIICHAN ONLY photo album —sponsored by yours truly, Mrs. Matsuoka. And the collection continues to grow day by day that there might be a need of ONIICHAN ONLY II album; then there's the Special edition.
Exploiting the face of pure and innocence that knows no lies bestowed upon children like her, she just smiled at her brother.
Well, ignorance is a bliss.
"By the way, Gou."
"Hmmmm?"
Rin crossed his arms on his chest.
"Why are you still on your pajamas? We have to go to school already."
She looked down at her clothes then to her brother again, "Ah, it's fine, oniichan. You don't need to walk me to school."
"Geez, fine.I'll wait for you to get changed. Just make it faster, okay?"
He situated himself on the doorway to sit there and wait for his sister.
"I'll just go to school alone, oniichan. "
Hearing her response, he was forced to stand up once again and faced her; he held her shoulders while directing sincere eyes towards her, "Gou, it's dangerous if you're alone. What if something happens and I won't be there to—"
"Oniichan, you're overacting! I won't get lost or get hurt by just going to school. Just trust me, okay?"
She announced so proudly while wearing a smile of reassurance and her rounded orbs brimming with determination that had defeated Rin on the spot.
As if he could defy her when she looked that cute.
"Well, if that's what you say. Just….take care. Promise me."
She nodded.
He ruffled her tresses earning a grumble from Gou for messing up with her hair which he just ignored and just enjoyed touching its silkiness, "Good girl."
When he had enough, he swiped strands of her bangs to the side to expose her forehead.
"Take care oniichan!"
He just stared at her whilst having that playful grin on him then pulled her down to give a quick peck her forehead; followed by a light pat on her head , "See yah later Gou."
Then waving to his mother —the almost forgotten presence in the scene, "Bye Mom!"
"Wait, Rin."
Mrs. Matsuoka grabbed her son's wrist before he had gotten near the door knob; which had him turn back to face his mother.
"Eh? What is it, Mo—"
"C-C-C-C…CAN YOU DO THAT AGAIN?!", said she sparkling, and for some reason, heavily breathing, with her trembling hands barely holding the digital camera — which appeared out of nowhere— in place; ever ready to take a shot.
And Rin could only facewall.

Gou would be lying to say she didn't want her brother to accompany her to school. She likes being pampered by him; or even just being together. She felt safe just having Rin by her side. But she knew well how troublesome it would be for him; because unlike the previous years, they now attend different schools; with quite distance from one another.
She didn't want to be selfish; because of all the things she hated the most was being a bother especially towards her brother. He had always been her priority above anything else ever since she could remember. So his offer to accompany her was more than enough for her and seeing his expression of concern towards her; which is a big bonus.
And it's not like they don't see each other at home every day.
Now that she thought about it, she had been depending on her brother too much. Maybe it's about time she began practicing independence; after all, she's about to enter adolescence in few years time. She should be able to handle herself well.
Because oniichan will go to Australia soon.
Before another gloomy train of thoughts come to her mind, an awfully familiar voice called out to her.
"Good morning, Gou-chan!"
She turned around; perfectly erasing the arising glum on her face just seconds ago and smiled, "Good morning too, Sou-chan!"
It was Rin's closest friend in Sano Elementary school, Yamazaki Sousuke whom she has also befriended through her brother. The three of them were always together that she had even thought of him as her second 'oniichan' and he had always treated her like his own little sister. Well, she didn't mind having two big brothers.
But on the second thought, Rin is the one and only big brother for her.
"So Rin has really transferred, huh?"
She nodded; while they began going inside the school grounds standing side by side; as they continued with their conversation.
"Well, I guess we should just get used to it." said he patting her head and felt her nod once again, "And tell him to at least accompany you to school."
"You just wanted to see him." Gou with a knowing smirk stopped and faced him, "Hohohh~ You already miss oniichan don't you? Don't worry, I'll tell him not to look at other boys in his new school. Oh! But there's this Haruka Nanase that oniichan's been talking about almost frequently and he's like, 'Nanase's so fast! Nanase's so fast!' You should watch out for him!"
He just ruffled her head intentionally messing up her hair,"Your imagination's as crazy as always, Gou-chan."
Pumping her fists to the air as though encouraging him, she told him, "I'll be rooting for you, Sou-chan!"
"Yeah yeah. Let's just go to class."
Seriously Mrs. Matsuoka, just what are you teaching your children?

The school bell finally chimed signaling that classes had already ended for that day. Gou didn't have any cleaning duties so she could go home right away; though she still had some errands to run for her mother before going home.
She was still busy enumerating the ingredients needed for tonight's dinner as she walked in the school grounds, when someone suddenly tapped her shoulder from the back.
"Gou-chan!"
If she hadn't recognized the voice right away, she would've applied the self-defense her brother had taught her; just the basics; like 'Hit him hard on 'that' spot, okay? Make sure that it's so crushed and he won't be able to produce children anymore.'
Gou never had the chance to try it, though.
"Sou-chan! Mouuu, don't surprise me like that!"
"Sorry!" he grinned at her, "Let's go home together."
They were headed on the same path anyway, and it would be lonely if she'd be alone walking home. Besides, they do this often before; the only difference is that, Rin is not with them.
Equaling Sousuke's bright smile, she responded,"Oka—"
She couldn't finish her response when this distinguishable shade of red came into her peripheral vision. She must be hallucinating right now because on their school gate, there stand a boy who seemed to look like her brother. Her feet just dragged her towards the direction of that boy. As she got nearer him, she was able to confirm that he was real. That was really Rin Matsuoka in flesh; in front of her.
"O-oniichan?! What are you doing here?"
Was the first thing she said; and Rin doesn't seem to be happy with it.
"Baaa~~ ka~~." he pinched her nose, "Isn't that obvious? I'll walk you home."
Then he took Gou's bag and carried it; dangling it on his shoulder, "Let's go."
She stopped Rin from his tracks, holding onto his shirt, "But what about Sou-chan?" she looked back to where he is, then to her brother once again, "We should tell him to join us t—"
"What? You prefer Sousuke now over your big brother?"
It was obvious that he was pouting.
"Eh?! Ofcourse not!"
"Good!"
Gou waved her hand to Sousuke; he replied by copying her. She felt bad leaving him behind, but her brother was pouting and there's no way she could reject his request when he's that cute.
Rin held her hand as they began walking outside the school. It was whole silence and he was just looking straight ahead, not even glancing at Gou; though the whole time she was just staring at him.
But when it was the crowd had subsided, Rin was the one who initiated the conversation.
"Listen Gou," he squeezed her hand to gain her attention; and finally he looked into her eyes.
Thus halting their movements.
"You're my little sister so it's your job to depend on me and let your brother spoil you. So don't you dare reject me again, okay?" she nodded, dumbfounded with his sudden speech, "And don't ever think that it's a bother for me."
She nodded once again and they resumed walking.
He averted his stare from Gou, as he murmured, "I thought you were avoiding me or you were starting to grow up and think that it's embarrassing to be with your brother when going to school."then scratched his hair,"Aww geez, I feel stupid for thinking like that."
"Oniiiiiiichan~!"
When he turned back, he saw Gou stretching out her both arms towards him; grinning at him from ear to ear.
"W-what?"
"Piggy back ride."
"Okay okay. I get it."
He brought down his back pack together with Gou's and gave it to her, as he bent down his knees; finding the most comfortable position for Gou to ride his back.
He faced her, "Here."
Giggling to herself, she wrapped her arms around Rin's neck while he carried her both legs; now dangling from his arms. As soon as he was able to balance them, he moved his feet and started moving once again.
Gou whispered, "Oniichan, I love you the most in the whoooooole wide world~"
He looked sideways, to hide his now pink tinged cheeks, "S-same here."
"EH?! But I thought it was Sou-chan?!"
Now that Gou has detached her head from his, he turned to her.
"HAH?! What are you talkin—"
"OMG! Is it already that 'Nanase-kun' ?!"
Matsuoka females do know how to ruin perfect moments like this.
I just can't let go of this Mom Matsuoka. She's just too adorable. And Sousuke, the 'oniichan's best friend' is just too tempting to be paired with Gou. Sorry, not sorry.
