Ana's POV
It's been four days since Christian and I came back from Aspen and I have to say, I feel a lot better since our talk. I had no idea that there were so many things that were bugging me, but once I started to talk it came all out of me and I feel more relaxed and calm now. I have seen John yesterday and while it is still a little awkward for me to talk to someone about my life, I think it will help me.
Christian really sticks to his promise and we sit down every evening before dinner and just talk about our day and what's on our mind. This is not only good for me, but for him to and we enjoy this time of the day so much, that I'm pretty sure it will become a daily ritual for the rest of our life and not just until he feels that I can come and talk to him about everything that is bothering me.
Next week Taylor will have some potential new CPO's for me coming over so I can talk to them. The guys he had hired weren't right for the job as they both have families they can't work the crazy hours the job requires and Christian didn't like the way one of them was looking at me. Even I felt a little uncomfortable because I wasn't sure if he was checking me out or if he made a mental inventory of the jewelry that I was wearing that day. So, I hope this will get solved soon. Since Luke is still working at Grey House he agreed to take over the job as Christian's CPO as long as Taylor is following me around.
I feel a lot safer with Taylor. Yes, I see him as a friend, but he has no problems to tell me what to do if it is necessary and he makes sure that no one comes even in touching distance of me.
Two days ago Christian took me, Kate and Mia shopping. It was great, well, for us girls. Christian and the security team that followed us weren't happy at all, but I don't think that spending two hours in each shop is that much. When we went into the third shop Christian was so moody that I asked him to come into the changing room to zip my dress up and as soon as he was inside I locked the door and we had a quickie in the changing room, improving my darling husbands mood considerably. I'm pretty sure everyone knew what we did, because Christian came into the changing room looking like he had just ate something nasty tasting and left the changing room grinning like a loon.
But, I don't care. He is my husband and if I want to have sex with him, I can have him where ever I want, provided I find a room where I can lock the door. Of course, Mia and Kate couldn't resist to tease me about it, but hey my man was a happy camper after our quickie, while Luke who was also with us looked completely frustrated. So, I suggested to Mia she should do the same thing and she was so embarrassed I couldn't help but laugh at her.
Today, I've met the team of the center and we went over some details and got the last flyers and brochures ready. In two weeks we will start to visit all the schools in the area and hopefully get everything started. I know this will be a security nightmare, but I really want to go to the schools and talk to the kids, so Taylor reassured me that he will have a team together by then and that it won't cause any problems.
An hour ago I arrived back home and had lunch with Gail and Taylor. Usually Taylor would eat lunch in his office while Gail would wait to have lunch until I have finished mine and she has cleaned the kitchen, but I felt like having company today, so I kind of forced them to have lunch with me.
"Mrs. Grey, the car is ready, we have to leave if you want to make your appointment on time" Taylor's voice brings me back to the now and I get up.
"Okay, I'm coming. I just have to get my purse"
Christian and I will see my new OB/GYN Dr. Fisher today and I'm glad she could give me an appointment so soon. Christian was a little pissed that we had to wait four days to see her, but she has a very busy schedule and doesn't even take on any new patients, but made an exception for me. I guess, it's because of the Grey name, but I don't care. If Christian's name helps me to get the best possible doctor for me and my baby I will take full advantage of it.
Christian will meet me at her office and I will go back to GEH with him afterwards. He has one teleconference after our appointment and then he wants to take me out for dinner at Canlis. I think I will order double dessert, they have this heavenly white chocolate mouse with berries and I could bathe in it. I swear one day soon, I'm going to order enough of it to fill our tub with it ... our enough to cover Christian in it and lick it off him ... hmm this really has possibilities.
" , we really have to leave now" I hear Taylor call out for me and shake my head, trying to get rid of the thought of my sexy as fuck husband covered in white chocolate mouse ready for me to eat it all off of him.
At 's office we are ushered in one of the rooms and her nurse, a young woman called April asks me to get on the scale. I hate this part, mostly because I will have gained more than I should have again.
"You have 144 pounds Mrs. Grey. With how much weight did you start?" she asks and I want the ground to swallow me up.
"120 pounds" I mutter.
"Oh, well 24 pounds is quiet a lot for 7 months of being pregnant. But don't worry, it's not that unusual, I'm going to measure you now, then we will make an ultrasound and check on your baby." she says with a smile and of course my belly measures too much, too.
I lay down for the ultrasound and April starts the machine, but when she turns the heartbeat on she frowns and stares at the monitor moving the probe over my belly to look at Teddy from every possible direction.
"What is wrong?" Christian asks and April looks nervous. Oh god, please don't tell me something is wrong with my baby.
"Please wait a moment, I'm going to get Dr. Fisher." she says and I hurries out while I feel panic rising inside of me. This can't be good. I look up at Christian and I know he is thinking the same thing, but neither of us is capable of saying anything and then Dr. Fisher a young woman in her early thirties comes in.
"Mister and , it's a pleasure to meet you. I'm going to take a look at your baby now" she says and frowns in the same way when she switches the heartbeat on. Oh no, what if Teddy has a problem with his heart.
"Okay Mrs. Grey. I'm trying to get your son to move a little bit, this may look scary, but it won't hurt him." she assures me and I grab Christian's hand when she starts to push and shove my belly around in quick movements, checking on Teddy after every time she does it and suddenly she smiles.
"Well, look at what we've got here." she says with a big smile.
"Damn it, what is wrong with our son?" Christian snaps, oh boy he is about to lose it.
"Mister Grey, there is nothing wrong with your son, April called me because she could hear an echo with the heartbeat. This could have been a problem with your sons heart, but one look at your wife and I was pretty sure it wasn't your sons heart that was giving us an echo."
"Then what was it?"
"Your daughter Mister Grey, congratulations, you are having twins." What? Did she just... I push myself up on my elbows to look at the monitor and sure enough there is another baby on the monitor.
"Mister Grey, do you need to sit down? April, please get a water for Mister Grey" she says and pushes a chair from the corner over to Christian who just flops down in the chair as white as the wall.
"How ... I mean ... I don't understand" he mutters voicing my thoughts exactly.
"Well, to be honest, I'm not sure how could miss this. After all there is a second placenta and I'm sure the echo in the heartbeats must have been audible before, even if your son was lying right in front of your daughter covering her from the view. Well, I would say you are very lucky that you came here to see me, this would have been one surprising delivery otherwise and of course with multiples you need to get checked more often than with one child now that you have reached the third trimester Mrs. Grey." she says just as April comes back in and hands Christian a paper cup with water.
"Thanks" he mutters and gulps it down.
"I'm going to print this for you" she says and takes a closer look at my baby girl before she does.
"Hah, look at that, your son is quiet the protective one, he is back right in front of her as if to say, hey lady leave my sister alone, she is shy" Dr. Fisher giggles and I can't help but laugh too. Oh my two babies, wow!
After I have talked to Dr. Fisher for well over 30 minutes Christian and I leave her office and he still hasn't said anything. I know he was worried about having a daughter and probably needs some time to calm down. So, I decide not to talk to him right now and wait until he wants to talk. We arrive at Grey House and in his office he makes his teleconference while I rest a little on the large sofa in his office.
2 hours later his teleconference is finished and I watch Christian sitting at his desk and just rubbing his hands through his hair.
"Okay, let's go and have dinner" he finally mutters and get's up without even looking at me.
"Christian wait, can we please sit down and talk first?"
He looks at me and I can tell that he is completely freaked out that we are having a girl, too. But he walks over to the sofa and sits down with me.
"How do you feel about having two babies?" I ask and he takes a deep breath.
He looks at me and sighs. "Ana, baby, I'm thrilled that we are having twins, it's just and please don't be mad, but I wish that it would have been two boys. It's not that I want our baby girl any less, it's just ... fuck ... what kind of father can I possibly be to a girl Ana? For most parts of my life I hated women and treated them terribly. I know next to nothing about little girls and only thinking that one day my little girl will come home with a boyfriend is giving me nightmares. I know what guys want and most guys would tell a girl anything to get laid. She will hate me for being overprotective and I don't want to raise my kids with double standards, but I know I will, because I want my son to get laid whenever he feels like it, but not my daughter."
I take his hand and kiss his knuckles. "Christian, I don't think that there is one father out there who really loves his daughter and raises her with the exact same standards he is raising his son. I have to say I don't want Teddy to sleep around either, but at the same time I know that most boys and young men do just that before they eventually settle down. I know you are going to be overprotective with her and she will love it as small girl and hate it as a teen, but I can promise you once she is grown up, she will look back and know that all you did was to protect her."
He frowns. "How do you know?"
"I had my first date when I was 15 and when Josh came to pick me up, my dad was sitting on the steps of the porch cleaning his gun. He got up shook Josh's hand and told him 'see that son, you better take a good look at that gun, because if you hurt my Annie or forget to treat her with respect, it will be the last thing you'll ever see' I was so embarrassed, I wanted the ground to swallow me up, but looking back now I know why he did that and it just shows me how much my dad loves me. You don't have to worry too much about this. These two ... " I take his hand and place it on my bump.
"These two will adore us while they are little, there will come a time when no matter what we do, they will think it's embarrassing and as teenagers there will be times where they will hate us for setting boundaries and not allowing them to do what ever they want, but that's all part of being parents. What really counts is that one day when they have their own families and careers, they will look back and think that we did a good job raising them. And it will be the same for us, I know we will both love them unconditionally, but there will be times where we both just want to strangle them or just want to pack their belongings and ship them off to god knows where, but that's all normal. At some age kids just start to test their boundaries and yes we will probably hear that they hate us, but in their heart they don't mean it."
"But Ana, I have no idea what little girls like to do. With boys it's easy, they like to wrestle and play with cars and all kinds off outdoor stuff and ballgames, but girls. No idea."
"You grew up with a little sister, have you never played with Mia?"
"Sure, horrible tea parties and one time she forced me and Elliot to dress in our mom's clothes." he grumbles and I can't help but laugh imagining him and Elliot wearing Grace's clothes.
"See, so you do know some things. But every child is different. Jenny and I for example. She loved to go shopping with our mom and do all the dress up stuff and just all the girl things, while I loved to go hiking and fishing with my dad. There are tons of girls who love to play soccer or prefer to play with cars and other toys that are usually given to boys and at the same time there are boys who like to play with dolls and do ballet."
"Not our son" Christian says all serious.
"If he likes it, why not?"
"Because that's girl stuff and my son won't do that." he mutters and I know that he knows how ridiculous he sounds.
"We will see about that, but I have an idea. Why don't we cancel our reservation at Canlis and go home instead. My dad is there helping Patrick with a school project. I could cook for all of us and you could talk to him, after all he raised two daughters and I'm pretty sure he can give you advise about all your concern."
"Are you sure, I mean, yes I would love to talk to Ray, but I know you were looking forward to our dinner date."
"It's okay, we can go another time, maybe we could go to the movies on saturday, there is this new movie I would love to watch."
"A chick flick?" he asks with one raised eye brow.
"Yes it's about this girl who moves into a ..." he stops me by holding both hands up.
"Baby, I will endure this for you, but I really don't need to hear what it is about."
"Good let's go."
"Taylor, we need to make a quick stop over there" Christian says as Taylor is driving us back home and I'm surprised when he asks me and Taylor to stay in the car and so we wait in the parking garage of the mall.
"Permission to speak freely Mrs. Grey?" Taylor asks and I laugh, he can be so formal at times.
"Taylor, if you want to say something just do it." I tell him and he turns in his seat to look at me.
"I umm... well I saw that Mister Grey was really worked up after your appointment and I'm worried that something is wrong with the baby." he seems embarrassed asking me this, but I really don't know why, he is as close as family to us.
"Everything is alright, but we found out that we are having twins."
"Two boys, wow congratulations Mrs. Grey."
"Actually, we are having a boy and girl."
"Oh fuck ... umm ... apologies Mrs. Grey. I ... it's just " I can't help but laugh again.
"It's okay Taylor, I get it and yes Christian is a little freaked out, but he is getting there."
"Good, wow a little girl, I think that's the best thing for him." Taylor says thoughtful and I know he is thinking about his own daughter and the fact that Gail is still taking hormones but so far she is not pregnant. I hope that she will get pregnant soon, she and Taylor would be wonderful parents.
30 minutes later Christian comes back into the car grinning at me with two large bags in his hands.
"What did you buy?"
"I'll show you later, okay?"
"Okay, but now I'm curious."
At home we find my dad and Patrick in the kitchen. "Hi daddy" I beam at him and we hug. We had a long talk two days ago and I know Christian was right when he said this would only bring us closer, because now I really know that for him there is no difference between Jenny, Patrick and I.
"Hi Annie, you are home early, is everything alright with my grandson?"
"Oh, he is fine and so is his twin sister" I tell him with a big grin and his mouth pops open.
"Twins, why didn't you tell me this earlier?"
"Because we just found out, Teddy likes to keep his sister from everyone's view. Anyways, why don't you and Christian sit down and have a beer. Patrick will you help me to fix dinner?" I ask and five minutes later my brother is preparing a salad while I marinade the steaks for dinner.
"So, do I have to chop veggies for the salad because Christian is completely freaked out about having a girl" Patrick smirks and I roll my eyes at him.
"No, you are helping me fixing dinner because one day you will move in with your girlfriend and she will appreciate the fact that you know how to cook or at least help her in the kitchen."
"Yea right, why don't you teach your husband?"
"Because I don't want to buy a new kitchen each time he tries to cook. Besides, this way we can talk. So, tell me how was your day?"
"Mom called." he says and I look up at him.
"What did she say?"
"Apparently she is running out of money and she, well she wanted me to ask you if she could have the money you have put away for Jenny. She said ... she said since Jenny is crazy and will never get better, so she won't need it. Ana is she right? Will Jenny have to stay in that facility forever?" he asks and I can see the tears in his eyes so I pull him in a hug.
"That's not true Patrick, mom just wants more money to spend, but she is not getting one penny from Jenny's money, I'm not going to give her that money. And I'm sure that Jenny will get better. Dad told me she is doing a lot better. Maybe soon you can visit her, don't believe a single word mom says, okay? She is just miserable and says those terrible things to make anyone else miserable, too."
"But what if she is right?"
"She is not, Jenny is responding well to her new medication and therapy. She really wants to get better now and that is the most important thing. It took her a long time to come to terms with the fact that she is sick and in need of help, but now that she is willing to accept the help she will get better. Okay, trust me, mom is wrong."
He looks at me and it is killing me to see my baby brother this upset. "Mom didn't even ask how I'm doing, she just wanted me to ask you for the money" he tells me and I fell so bad for him.
"Patrick, look mom is really upset right now and maybe it is best if you don't answer her calls for a while."
"Why is she upset." Oh crap, I really wanted to wait for a good timing to tell him, but I guess I have to do it now, because I don't want to lie to him.
"Let's sit down" We sit at the kitchen table and I take his hands in mine.
"You remember when I had the car accident?"
"Sure, I will never forget that time, I was scared to lose you" he whispers.
"When I was in the hospital I needed a blood transfusion and it turned out that mom and I have a different blood type. I have the same type as Jenny and you, dad's blood type. He gave me his blood and it saved me. But daddy started to think about this and ... and he suspected for a long time that I was his biological daughter and after the accident he secretly had a paternity test done. It came back positive. I am his biological daughter, just like Jenny and you. He kept it to himself, but after Jenny was admitted mom and dad had a nasty fight and he told her about me. That is why mom flew off the handle. She is upset and miserable because I am not Frank Lambert's daughter."
"So you are not just my half-sister, but my real sister like 100 percent" he asks wide-eyed and clearly excited.
"Yes, I am."
"That's so cool, I mean, it doesn't change anything, you are still dad's daughter and my sister, why is mom upset?"
"Look, she really loved Frank Lambert and I think she saw me as a part of him she could keep even after his death."
"But you are still her daughter, I don't get it."
"Me neither, but all that's important for you to know is that nothing between us changes. No matter what you need, I want you to know that you can come to me with everything that's on your mind."
"I know, love ya Ana." he smirks and I grin.
"Love ya, too, pee-bear"
"Oh man, don't call me that" he pouts and I giggle. "I will call you that even when you are old and gray, so let's cook."
I want to get up and Patrick gently pushes me back in the chair, takes a can of cream soda out of the fridge and places it in front of me.
"Sit down, I will cook." he says and I look at him surprised.
"I can cook, don't worry and you can barely get out of that chair on your own, so relax and I cook."
"But I can help you" I offer.
"Nope, just sit there and keep me company."
45 minutes later our dinner is ready and Christian and my dad come into the kitchen.
"Wow that smells amazing baby" Christian says and kisses me.
"I didn't cook, it Patrick did."
"Really, you can cook?" he asks him and Patrick explains that he learned it in school and by watching me and Jenny cook while we still lived at home. While we eat I watch Christian and he looks a lot more relaxed than he did when we arrived home. I look over to my dad and he winks at me, letting me know that they talked and Christian is better now.
Later that evening after a long bath with Christian, where I also told him about my mom and he promised to talk to her, I'm in bed reading an article about how to nurse twins while Christian wanted to get something.
"Interesting?" I hear his voice and look up.
"Yes, I googled articles about how to nurse twins. You know; do I nurse them at the same time, or with a time difference or maybe only one, though that seems a little mean and I really want to nurse them both."
"The classes we are going to take start next week, I'm sure the midwife who is one of the instructors can give us some advise about that topic. Nursing only one and giving the other formula doesn't seem ideal to me. Though it would be easier as I could feed one of the babies while you nurse the other one."
"I think I will start to pump my milk early on, so I can alternate between breastfeeding and giving them a bottle. Well, that is if I will produce enough milk to feed them both."
"We'll have to wait and see what happens, so I wanted to show you what I've bought earlier at the mall" he says sits down on the bed and places the shopping bags between us.
He takes the first one and produces two identical plush toy cars for babies that are making sounds if you squeeze them. He reaches into the other bag and places two identical dolls from the bag.
"You were right Ana, it doesn't matter if our baby girl or Teddy wants to play with cars or dolls, as long as they are healthy and happy everything else doesn't matter. I still need sometime to get used to the idea of having a daughter, but it doesn't scare me as much now then it did earlier today. And I know I will be her worst nightmare as soon as she starts to date, but Ray assured me that this is a normal thing, so maybe I'm lucky and our little girl will love me just like you love your dad."
"I know she will, just trust me on this one."
"I always trust you baby and ... umm ... I bought one more thing, it might be a little cheesy, but I saw it and had to buy it." he reaches into one of the bags again and produces a white onesie with little soft pink hearts printed on it and embroidered on the front are the word 'Daddy's little princess'
"Oh, that is so cute, Christian. I will put it in my hospital bag so we can dress her in it the day we take them home."
Christian gives me dazzling smile and produces yet another little white onesie from the bag, but this one has little blue stripes and the words 'Mommy's little man' embroidered on it. I can't help it, damn these pregnancy hormones, but I start to cry.
"Hey, what is wrong" Christian asks and gently wipes the tears that are falling down from my face.
"Nothing, this is just perfect. Perfect like you and those two" I whisper and rub my belly.
"Perfect like you baby" Christian whispers against my lips and soon we get lost in each other...
So, all of you who guessed that they are having twins were right :-) At first I was thinking about waiting until the delivery and I had the birth scene already written, but it seemed too unreal and too much drama to me, so I decided to reveal it earlier. In the beginning I didn't even plan on them having twins, but after some of you suggested it I liked the idea more and more until I decided to go for it.
I won't be able to post for a while, as I have a lot going on right now, so don't expect the next chapter before march 15th...
Oh, and I guess most of you noticed that A&C haven't talked about a name for Babygirl Grey, the reason is that I noticed that I'm close to 1000 reviews (thank you all so much for that, I never expected so much positive feedback and I love to read your thoughts about my story) and with a couple of chapters left before the delivery I've decided that the person who leaves review number 1000 can pick the name for Babygirl Grey. I will send a pm to the person who leaves review number 1000, so make sure you log in to review. If the review is from a guest please leave the name in the review ...
If you haven't seen it already, I have started a new story, it's called a The Wild Ones, it's OOC and AU, so if you like this kind of stories, give it a try :-)
