Chapter 10: It ends with you

"Hurt, beaten and fearful for our lives, we surrendered to the ninja and in extension, the humans. Five of their greatest ninja, the Kage, sealed us underground with a special fūinjutsu. Anything can enter through the seal, but only beings with a powerful soul can leave."

"There is, however, one way to reverse the jutsu, if a huge power, with the combined strength of the Five Kage, attacks the barrier, it will be destroyed. The strength of the Five Kage is only equivalent to the strength of five ninja. But this accursed place has no entrances of exits."

"Even if a human does fall down, what're the chances it'll be a ninja? I'm afraid we'll remain trapped here forever."

Naruto leveled his back, cramming prickly hands inside his pockets while walking away from the collection of ancient text. 'That's why it's so important to them that I'm a ninja, I would've been totally useless if I weren't.' He entered into a sea of black grass, approaching the only visible thing in the black mass; a gaudy mushroom.

He touched it.

The mushroom's light outlined a path in the grass Naruto could follow. "So that's the only you can get through here," He stood up, pushing through until he found another mushroom.

*squish

'... uh, I think I stepped on something.' Naruto lifted his leg to check for any residue on his shoe, relieved to see nothing, he took another step.

"What kind of noise is that," He said.

"hOI! i'm tEMMIE!" Some white and fluffy monster pounced on Naruto's leg, he petted her hair, which was beginning to look more and more like a gray rat's nest, thinking she was a cat.

"OMG! awwAwa anime human TOO CUTE!" Naruto's foot jut backwards when Temmie started vibrating violently on his leg. "The hell's going on with you?!"

"Teemmmmmm-"

"AHA! There's the human!;0" Naruto groaned.

Aaron and Woshua strutted behind him. Aaron combed through his hair and laid an arm on Naruto's sagging shoulders. "Say, human, my companion and I couldn't help but notice you were the person whom my older brother, Aaron, met!;0"

"You're not Aaron?" Now that he mentioned it, this Aaron did look a little less toned than before.

"Correct, I'm Thomas, Aaron's younger brother, but I go by another title," He flexed his right arm, purposely making his flashy 'MOTHER' tattoo bulge outright. "The handsomer one!;0"

Temmie was discomforted, no longer vibrating, or breathing. "NO! muscles r... NOT CUTE NO! STOP!" She yelled.

After Thomas flexed a second time, then Temmie was flat out gone.

"That's better," Thomas relaxed his muscles and faced Naruto who looked completely distraught. "Aaron periodically flexes himself into the fifth dimension and usually comes back in hours' time, but we haven't seen ol' Aaron in a couple of days. Not that I'm complaining, it's been a lot more quite around here lately, but he owes me like thirty bucks and I need to go on a hot date with Shyren!;0"

Woshua bobbed in agreement.

"So, do you know where Aaron is?;0"

Naruto picked at his nose. "I dunno."

"Oh...well, can't say we didn't try, right Wosh?;/"

"Yup."

"Whelp, we'll be on our way, good evening to you human!;0" Thomas and Woshua were soon swallowed by the blackness.

'Eh, Thomas' sure is a jōzetsu, but he's better than Aaron.' Naruto kicked at another mushroom, and he too ventured through the darkness.

Somehow, the farther Naruto progressed into the world, it only got darker. It was frightening. 'Ah, there's something over there!' Naruto ran towards an excerpt of ancient text. The brightest thing there was at the moment, next to a lantern sitting by his foot. "Without candles or magic to guide them home, the monsters used crystals to navigate."

He looked around, the crystals consumed all the surrounding blackness, although they were gingerly sprinkled throughout.

Naruto went to the closest one, immediately greeted with a thick blanket of pink by. And finally, the darkness didn't seem so frightening anymore. 'I can't go by these, the crystals are way too far apart from each other, I'll just get lost or something.'

He decided on picking up the dim lantern by the wall and holding it in front of him. 'Damn it, this isn't any better either, but...it'll be quicker.' He steadied the lantern, taking careful steps forward.

*distant slime sounds

'Those...things...are here too.' His pace fastened.

*very close slime sounds

'Huh, my lantern feels really...' Naruto lifted his lantern to find a moldsmal gripping the head, he threw the lantern. 'Whatever, I don't need that thing!'

Without any source of light, all Naruto could do was stumble blindly in the dark, it felt endless.

'You know this place was once a dumping ground for all the missing nin and criminals they could catch, sort of like a prison, and they knew full well the monsters were under here. They purposely threw them in the underground knowing the torture they'd bring to monsters. Then one day they stopped it all together, they wouldn't let humans, especially ninja go down here.'

'Of course, that was a long time ago, a very long time ago. They were still a few slips here and there, but gradually, the humans ceased to remember the existence of monsters. Some monsters, on the other hand, never forgot.'

'...what does that have to do with anything?'

'That you can't save them all. Just think about it, kukuku,'

"...Oh-oh! I see some light!"Naruto took off to whatever was glowing ahead of him, eventually, even the lingering darkness let up as well as his bottled fear.

"An...echo...flower," He was breathing heavily. "I ran all the way for this, it better be good,"

BEHIND YOU

Naruto heard a sharp voice cut behind him, they were also breathing heavily, "All of this can end. Our pain, our suffering, our misery."

The voice dropped. "And it can end with you."

'Undyne isn't acting like she normally does...' Naruto turned around, showing no fear. "You want another fight or something, 'cause I'll give you one!"

Undyne ignored him and subtly walked forth. "With the power of five ninja souls, our king...King Asgore Dreemurr...will become a god, he can finally shatter the barrier and take the surface back from humanity. He'll give them all the pain and suffering we've endured all these years. Countless humans have fallen down here, but only four were ninja. You're the fifth one."

"Do you understand, human? This is your only chance at redemption," A spear formed in her hand. "Give up your soul or-"

"NO! I WON'T LET YOU KILL ME! If you want my soul, you're gonna have to fight me for it!"

"That's what I was planning to do IN THE FIRST PLA-"

"HEY! Undyne I'll help you fight!"

"..."

"...!"

"Kid!" Naruto gritted his teeth, passionately glaring at the yellow monster. "I told you to keep my headband safe, but you got the lens all cracked!"

"..." Undyne was dumbfounded by the human. 'The hell's wrong with him, he's worried more about some stupid headband than his own life?!'

"Heh, sorry, I kept on falling, but look on the bright side! Undyne's like right in front of you! You've got front row seats to her fight..." Monster kid scanned the room. "...wh...what? Who is she...fighting?"

Undyne grabbed Monster kid by the cheek. "H-hey, you aren't going to tell Snowdrake about this, are you?" Their face burning when Naruto let out some snickers.

"Come on, put me down already!" She pinched harder.

'Damn these kids,' Undyne dragged Monster kid away while quietly muttering a few choice words of her own.

Naruto found himself in another flooded area with knee-high water, except instead of garbage floating around, there were echo flowers scattered everywhere. 'They're really loud this time, like they're in the same room as me...' He thought, slowly passing the flowers.

...hmm, if I say my wish you promise you won't laugh at me?

Of course I won't laugh!

Someday I'd like to climb this mountain we're all buried under. Standing under the sky, looking at the world all around...That's my wish.

The hall ended and left a wall of ancient text waiting for him. "The angel...the one who has seen the surface with the special bloodline of the deceased. They will return and the underground will go empty." Naruto dismissed it as nothing but bullshit and continued on the right to a lone bridge.

Naruto was over half way across the bridge when he suddenly stopped. "I know you're there, Kid, come out." Several seconds passed before he heard soft scuffles.

Several more seconds passed and Naruto turned around, a bright smile plastered on his face. "Hey Kid ya finally came back, what took you so long?!" His smile cut off quick.

"Can I ask you something?"

He stuttered. "...uh, huh."

"Are you a...human?" Monster kid said human in a particularly nasty way. It almost scared Naruto.

He rubbed his arm. "Yeah, but..." Naruto saw fear instead of anger rise in Monster kid's eyes. "I won't hurt you or anything I-"

"Shut up."

"K-kid, we're still frie-"

"I SAID SHUT UP! I know now, why you were acting so weird when you read those texts...I...DON'T WANNA BE FRIENDS WITH YOU...you humans are the reason...why they're not here anymore..." Tears rushed down their cheeks, drenching the ground. Monster kid's voice trembled. "I...hate you."

"...That's how it is, huh?" Naruto was drained of any emotion other than anger. "I was wrong about you, I thought having a friend meant they didn't care about who I am, but now I see, you aren't any of that. And now because you found out I'm a human...YOU CAN'T EVEN LOOK AT ME THE SAME WAY!"

'Let's have some fun with this pitiful being..kukuku.' "Heh, now you can find out something else about me..." Naruto slowly approached Monster kid, his pupils were slit, face narrow.

Monster kid was frozen by their own fear. Not one muscle in their body risked as much as a twitch.

Naruto bared his canine teeth. "...that I'm also a JINCHURIKI!" He snatched Mosnter kid's collar and help him close to his face. Monster kid saw tears pouring out of Naruto's blood stained eyes, they wanted to say something, but Naruto's skull-shattering punch ceased any communication.

Monster kid flew down the bridge. Rolling to a stop at the far wall. 'Was he...crying?'

They were quickly lifted from the ground and back to seeing Naruto's desolated face. "WHAT DO YOU THINK OF ME NOW?!" Naruto barked, readied for his final punch.

Monster kid's breathing was heavy. "...I...I think you're..." They suddenly dropped down.

"...a..h...h..-"

Monster kid saw a pool of blood slowly accumulate, their eyes dared to wander up.

"It's okay now..."

"He's dead."
