He leaned against the ramparts, his robes barely protecting him from the cold stone. This tower held so many memories…both good and bad.
But mostly bad.
Blue.
Blue eyes that usually sparkled with light.
Blue eyes that now reflected the sickly green colour of the Mark.
How would he do this?
How could he do this?
He stared into eyes as blue as ice, and he tightened his grip on his wand.
The wood was slick with sweat.
His white knuckled grip on the wand was starting to hurt his fingers.
He licked his lips nervously.
He thought of his family, he thought of the consequences.
Weighing both in the balance.
What was that old Latin saying his father had taught him?
Mene mene tekel upharasin.
You have been weighed in the balance and been found wanting.
He licked his lips again.
He wanted many things.
This was not one of them
The flashback sparked a pain behind his eyelids.
Why did he always have to be so damn emotional?
He brushed his eyes impatiently.
He knew what the others saw.
He knew what they felt.
They felt sorry for him.
They pitied him.
He knew they saw a broken, shattered man deprived of a loving home and family.
What they didn't know is he didn't need nor want their pity or their sorrow.
All he wanted was to be left well enough alone, here, in the moonlight.
Alone.
Solitary.
Silent.
People always asked questions.
Noisy, prying questions.
Who was he?
What was he going to do now?
How did he feel about the way things had turned out?
He knew who he was.
He was the son of a Death Eater. The offspring doomed to never be accepted because of his father's actions.
It was his father, not him, they saw.
It didn't matter what he was going to do now or how he felt. All that mattered was that the layers and layers of paint that had obstructed his vision had to be chipped away.
Like cracks in the sidewalk.
The layers and layers of Malfoy that his father had coated on were slowly being removed, and they were showing what was underneath
They were beginning to see the Draco.
The dragon.
Yes, maybe he appeared to be chipped and broken.
But that was just the paint.
His protective layer.
His shield.
Some things must be broken to be able to bend.
He wasn't even broken yet, how could they expect him to bend?
A/N – okay, is this too confusing? I really have no idea, I just wrote mainly with the prompts in mind and it's what I came up with…
Feedback really appreciated.
Thanks for taking the time to read :)
