Disclaimer: I do not own Naruto.
Neji decides it is ridiculous, really, the things he is willing to put up with for his current love interest, given that she does not even know she is his current love interest. It is well past noon and he has just woken to Tenten's Siamese cat, Lee, meowing and patting his face. Beside him, Tenten remains soundly asleep.
Tenten, as the president of student council, was of course required to attend the winter formal the council had planned. And she of course, as she somehow always manages to do, successfully persuaded him to be her date.
Lee takes another swipe at him, and Neji seriously considers pushing him off the bed. His head is pounding and annoyance flares in him when he realizes the drinks at Kiba's party were definitely spiked.
He supposes he rightfully deserves the consequences of spending the night out with her, especially for agreeing to attend all those after parties, despite his better judgment. But it wasn't all bad, he concedes, when Lee has taken a momentary break from swatting at him. Tenten looked resplendent in her navy dress, and he had gotten to hold her close as they danced one of the many slow songs of the evening. And then they had come back to her place, and he had made her laugh, and they inhaled an entire pizza before falling asleep to Tenten's favorite Jackie Chan movie.
This love thing, though, it can't be good for his heart. In an ideal world, he muses, eyeing Lee warily, last night would have ended with his lips on hers, after she had accepted and reciprocated his profession of love. Wasn't that how it always ended in the movies? But he had chickened out, even with the alcohol in his system, and he decides that it is probably the lamest thing he has ever done.
He is relieved when Lee finally crawls over him to pester his female owner, pawing at her hair buns. Neji watches, hoping Tenten wakes up so they can get breakfast (he is not going to venture down to the kitchen alone when her father, Gai, is around). He almost finds the scene amusing, until Lee gives up trying to wake her and returns to whining at him. He glares at the ceiling.
Ridiculous, it is all ridiculous.
