Chapter 18: (If you're here with me)

'Well...that does it.' Mettaton's eyes gazed into the emptiness of his teacup. 'I'm out of name brand tea...and out of time, Alphys sure isn't coming out any time soon.' He left his seat and approached the door. 'But maybe I won't have to go alone if I can coax the human enough...'

'Huh? That's strange.' Mettaton looked around the barren volcanic landscape, his blonde hair should've been easy to spot amongst the black soot plaguing the atmosphere. 'Where is he?' The only thing that remained of the hyper human was his numerous marks on the wall and several more empty ramen containers, Mettaton picked one up. 'I wonder where—wait, Alphys' computer monitor I almost forgot!'

Mettaton pushed the button and watched intently as the monitor flickered on. 'He's going...back to the elevator?!'

OoO

Naruto stood just before he reached the construction site. 'If I don't pull this off then—no, I'll do this, no doubt!'

"So then she told me the stench of boiled cabbages was just too much for her to bear and then when my back was turned she...she...are you even listening?"

"Oh yeah, yeah, it's just that I think I see that human running towards here."

"The human?" He rolled his eyes, all 45 of them. "That's crazy, the human isn't stupid enough to show his face around here a—"

"Yo," Naruto said, he quickly bounded off the support beam and ran up the unfinished elevator base.

"Is he crazy?!"

"But look at him go!"

'Alright! I'm doing it! I'm really doing it!' Naruto looked over his shoulder, the once colossal monsters were now no bigger than dots on a paper. 'This is soooo cool! Man, I could run like this forever!'

He'd gotten so far up, the surrounding metal shell eventually ran out and his feet fixated itself onto the smooth surfaces of the wooden support beams. 'I'm getting close, pretty soon I'll be on level and I can see Kid again, and it's all thanks to...Alphys...'

*CRACK

Naruto's foot sunk into the wood, his hands quickly caught onto the railing before he could fall off. "That was close." Naruto lowly muttered. "I should just climb up from now on, I'm almost there anyways."

Half an hour into his vertical trek and he finally reached Level 3's dry crimson ground. Naruto rolled onto the unsettlingly cold platform panting like a regular dog. 'Now it's just a little ways to the resort.'

He pulled himself up from a pool of his own accumulated sweat and ran down the platform. 'Ah, something smells pretty good. It's kind of familiar...I remember it from the-'

*squish

'What's this?' He plucked a white thread from the sole of his sandals and held it out in front of him. "A spider web, huh?"

"Do you like it~?"

"What do you..." His threatening tone dropped when he saw the dolled up face of a cutesy looking spider winking back at him. "...want..."

"You wouldn't mind purchasing a spider pasty from my parlor, would you?" She asked, her words rolled out smoother than the spider silk.

"Uh," He approached her small stand showcasing all the 'delectable' sweets she had to offer. "How much is it?"

She twirled a strand of her glossy black hair with her finger, patiently tapped on the counter with another and pointed to a web by her stand with one more. "Just a small price of 9999G~"

"D...D...Don't do it, kid..." A guy from behind him said. "I didn't want one...but Muffet...she..." Muffet tapped on her fang and his mouth slammed shut.

"So, how about it hu—huh, where'd he go...no matter, we'll run into each other in time."

*beep

*beep

"Hey...what's up?" Naruto asked, stopping at, so far, the largest array of steam platforms he ever came across.

"HELLLOOOO HUUUUMAN! I saw the amazing feat you pulled off on the elevator, I'm super jealous you get to go to MTT resort before I can. Anyways, besides that, I've been practicing—"

"Why did you call me?"

"To check up on you of course!"

"You don't have to lie to me, Mettaton. Tell me why you called me, for real."

"...I think should go back. There are two puzzles in this area, both of which I doubt you can solve. I mean, did you see yourself in Snowdin? Wow. I'm surprised—"

'That bastard!' Naruto crammed his phone in the deepest section of his pocket and ventured into the labyrinth of steam platforms. They lead him to a storage room reminiscent of where he first met Pyrope. 'So it'll be those types of puzzles? That should be easy.'

"Hey human,"

'That voice.' His eyes widened. "...are you..."

"Nah. It's just Ignis again, you haven't seen Pyrope anywhere have you? I've been looking all over the place for my lil' bro...everyone has...I mean...he couldn't of gone that far, right?"

"I have no idea where he is, but knowing him, he'll pop up eventually."

"Those are reassuring words and all but I wanna find him myself, and there's no way I can go any further with the road being blocked up by the big gate in the center. It's all thanks to those damn puzzles in the storage room. I mean, I would've solved them myself, but I kind of have no hands...or arms...so...can you..."

"Uh huh, come on, if you help me with the puzzle in there, then you can get outta here and find your brother...so I can pound him into the ground."

"What was that last part."

"What?"

"I thought you said something."

"I did?"

"I guess not, let's get on to solving puzzle then."

Naruto pushed open the door and they entered in. Inside had the same basic layout as the previous storage room, but this time the crates were arranged in a slightly different manner.

"Not too hard from the looks of this, I can solve this pretty quickly!"

'Good. It sounds like he has experience.'

"Hey-hey, it's the arsonist!"

'Not her again..!' Naruto groaned seeing the mini volcano plop on the ground beside his feet.

"If you want another ass beating, it'll have to wait, I'm busy right now."

"Actually, it was getting too hot outside so I went inside here to cool down, next thing I know I see you walking inside with your hot tamale friend."

'A volcano wants to...cool down?'

"As an executive decision made by yours truly, I decided we should be friends based on mutual hate," Vulkin said rather bluntly. "A partnership you could say."

"Why the hell would I want to be partners with you." He grumbled, equipping crossed arms and a furrowed brow.

"Come on, don't be so grouchy, just listen. If you solve it, I can go relax at MTT resort and in return, I won't bother you any more."

"Tch...fine."

"Yay!"

"Don't get too excited, cause you're gonna have to do all the hard labor for me!"

"I love, hard, long, grueling labor!"

"Of course you do..." His hands grasped onto the stationary gun. 'I'll prove you wrong Mettaton, I hope you're watching this right now.' "You guys go behind the railing and push the crates according to my command."

"Yessir!"

Ignis and Vulkin listened to Naruto's commands without much trouble and they pushed the crates until there was a clearly aligned oath from the gun to the switch. Naruto positioned the gun over the switch.

*beep

*beep

He took out his phone and wedged it in between his shoulder and cheek. "Are you back from Snowdin already, Undyne? Cause you gotta look at me up there on the—"

"Human,"

"...Yeah?"

"Alphys didn't tell you, did she?"

"Huh?"

"About...Pyrope."

"She told me to beat him up,"

"...she...well, you can't. Pyrope is dead, human, he kill...ended himself after hearing about what happened to Tsundereplane and...I just want you to move forward away from—"

*BAM

Ignis and Vulkin jumped out of the way as a bullet shot from the gun and spiraled into one of the crates. "That is the worst aim I've ever seen in my life!" Vulkin cheerily exclaimed.

"I'm sorry." Naruto mumbled. He reached for his phone, his hand visibly shaking when he dialed the number.

*ring

*ring

'...I'll just leave a message.'

*click

He attempted to fix his aim and position the gun in front of the switch, but his hands wouldn't allow it.

"What're you doing?!" Vulkin yelled. "That gun only has two loads of ammo, if you keep on playing around like that and end up missing the shot, then we'll have to wait a super long time before someone comes back to refill it!"

"She's right, we really don't have ammo to waste." Ignis added.

*BAM

The bullet missed the switch by a hair and tunneled into the wall. "WHAT WAS THAT?! You did that on purpose just to spite me, didn't you?!"

"I'm sorry," He said.

Naruto silently stepped off the platform and walked behind the railing. "...don't worry, I'll flip the switch, I promise." He went over to the storage room's back wall where the switch laid and scaled the wall, flipping the switch as promised.

"...! You've been a ninja this entire time?!" Vulkin said, watching him walk back down the wall.

"Are...you going to attack me?"

"No, since you did solve the puzzle for me I guess that makes you pretty alright in my book...even if you are an arsonist."

'I expected her to try and fight me, this is a surprise.' Naruto's hands sunk inside his pockets. 'But just in case.'

"Yep, now because of you, human, I'm one step closer to beating up my brother for leaving in the first place!"

"Yeah...let's...go finish that last puzzle..."

The second puzzle went off without a hitch with Naruto solving the puzzle the same way as before and they were in and out of the second storage room then making their way to the gate pretty quickly.

"It's open," Naruto muttered, stopping at the fittingly mechanical entryway.

"Yay! I'm finally going to the resort, bye guys!" Vulkin bounced away, leaving Naruto and Ignis to stand idly on the blighted away metal terrain.

"Thanks a lot, you're not so bad for a human. I'll tell Pyrope all about'cha!"

The shaking came back. "You...won't find him."

"What're you talking about? He's bound to be somewhere around here."

"You don't understand—"

"What do you mean I don't understand? What is with you, human?!"

"I mean...he's dead. I'm sorry..."

"..."

"And I'm sorry that I didn't tell you sooner, and I'm sorry that I wasted your time and I'm sorry I was such a...coward."

"I don't know, I'll never know the feeling of having a brother...but I've always wondered how it would feel to have one and when I think about the feeling I would get from losing him, I can kind of understand how you feel right now. It hurts, a lot."

"It does." Ignis uttered. His final words still lingered in the air seconds after he jumped away in the opposite direction of the gate.

'I hope I made the right choice...at least now that I told him, I can finally move past this.'

OoO

Past the gate, Naruto entered a long corridor draped in black with a few touches of purple along the walls and lining the floors. With the black of the hallway looming against his back each step he further advanced, it became apparent now more than ever that he was still stuck underground and still hundreds of miles away from the sun. 'I wish I had something bright with me, there's something weird about this place.'

His foot landed into the decorative clumps of cobwebs gingerly placed around the area, he bent down and pulled out the sticky threads from in between his toes. '...this is the stuff from the spider lady's shop.'

"Ahuhuhuhu, did you hear it?" He clocked his head around for any lingering traces of Muffet's voice and found nothing but the darkness calling for him. "They said a dumb human is coming through."

"If your friends could come out I'd gladly give my opinion of them!"

"As if they'd care to hear the opinion from someone who hates spiders."

"Someone who loves to stomp on them..."

Naruto walked further and further into the chasm of cobwebs.

"Someone who likes to pull their legs off..."

Soon, layers of the same cobwebs that were nearly impossible to maneuver through the entire ground. 'This is getting annoying,' He got out his kunai knife and slashed the webs entangling his feet.

"You know what else I heard?"

Naruto quickly turned around. 'I was right,'

"That someone's awfully stingy," Muffet said, taking off the veil of shadows hiding her. She came in closer and he took a step back.

"Are...you still mad I didn't buy anything from you?"

"More than mad, dearie. You think you're better than my own spider pastries?"

"N-no! I never said that!"

"Really, now? But I think you'd be just what my pastries need to make it taste a lot better. Goodbye, ahuhuhuh." Muffet pushed Naruto into the pit behind him, her eerie laughter rung through his ears during the long descent to the bottom.

*THUMP

"Owowow...gah...damn her." He got up while rubbing the newly formed lump on his head. "Now I have to find a way out of this place, but I don't see anything in here at all, it completely empty." Completely empty, expect for the few cobwebs decorating the pit, even color seemed to be absent since he saw nothing but black.

"...!" Naruto noticed the pit slowly filling up with an opaque purple liquid. "I need to find a way out faster," There was no indication of walls or anything else, so he had to settle for the long line of thick cobwebs hanging from the ceiling. He grabbed onto it and began making his way back up to the top.

"I see you made use of the curtains I put up, do you like them? Because they'll be an excellent accommodation to your entrails, ahuhuhu~"

'Yeesh, what's her problem? Did one of her little spider friends bite her in the ass or something?'

"Here's a little present from me to you, enjoy!"

Spiders the size of his own head plummeted down towards him, Naruto flipped between either side of the web so the spiders would land in the rising liquid below his feet instead of in his hair.

"Don't fight your delicious fate, human, the contribution you'll bring will make spiders everywhere very happy,"

'She's absolutely insane if she thinks I'll end up as her food. If only there was a wall around here, then...wait I got it!' He flung his kunai knife in front of him, like he hoped, the kunai etched itself into something rather than continuously flying forward.

'So, there's a wall around here after all,' He swatted a spider away from his head. 'This is about to be over quick for you.'

Muffet poured herself a cup of spider tea as she watched the human escape the pit. "I haven't had entertainment like this in a while and the human isn't half bad, if only he wasn't such a scrooge then I would've considered a different activity for him~"

To her surprise, the human had discarded the cobweb ladder and was running straight up the pit. "Oh, looks like he's coming up faster than I thought, but that's fine. I think an early breakfast is just what my pet needs, ahuhuhu."

OoO

*beep

*beep

"Alphys...I don't blame you for not telling me, I don't even care. Just can you please come back from wherever you're hiding...I can't stand it anymore...I want you here, it's not the same without you."
