Chapter 21: The Only Answer

Naruto sat on a ledge and gazed at the gray scaled buildings reaching as far as the eye could capture. It was incredibly vast, but incredibly empty. With the lingering thought of all the monsters who used to inhabit all those crumbling buildings, he stood up and kept on going.

He stopped abruptly once he turned a corner, a small, brick in the same tone of the decayed buildings caught his eye.

At first, Naruto's pace was slow.

('Are...you hugging me?')

Then he went faster.

('You're the first human to fall down here in a very long time. Come, I'll guide you through these catacombs.')

And faster.

('I'm very proud of you, but I thought you didn't want to talk to the dummy.')

('T-That's not true! I was just doing what you told me, Goat lady! Come on! Lemme talk to a real monster!')

Naruto was tripping on his feet just to get to that old, brick house he remembered so fondly.

('Wh-what're you doing? What're you trying to prove?')

('I...won't...fight...you.')

"TORIEL!" He called out. "I'M SORRY THAT I CAME BACK AFTER ALL!"

('For you, I'll put aside all my worries and if you truly wish to leave these ruins, I promise not to stop you.')

No answer. Naruto scrambled inside the house. "TORIEL! TORIEL! TOR...iel..." he looked around in every single room and there wasn't a single trace of her. "She...isn't even here."

*ring

*ring

'Please pick up…'

*beep

'She hung up before I even got a chance to leave a message…' "Toriel's house" was oddly drained of any color except for the few golden flowers he recalled seeing the time he fell down. And not wanting to stay cooped up in such a depressing home, he stepped over a heavy chain guarding the basement and walked downstairs.

"Looks like I'm not the only one here," Naruto murmured. Monsters lined up the long halls of the dreary basement, as he walked past, they told him bits and pieces of a story.

"A long time ago, a human fell into the Ruins. Injured by his fall, the human called out for help."

"Asriel, the king's son, heard the human's call and he brought the human back to the castle."

"Overtime, Asriel and the human became like brothers. The king and queen treated the human child as their own and the Underground was full of hope."

"Then...one day...the human started acting strangely. From time to time, the human would leave the castle and come back days after covered in dust and in his own blood."

"The king and queen had loved their son, but they were terrified at what he'd become. Though he told them that he didn't mean to kill any monsters, Asgore locked him in a cage in a desperate attempt to protect the monsters."

"Saddened by his brother's harsh treatment, Asriel spent every day with the human inside the cage, talking about what the surface looked like and how much he wanted to visit his village while the human was on the verge of losing his humanity. Until one day, the human sat alone in the cage beside a pile of Asriel's dust."

"Wracked with grief and anger, the human transformed into a creature sprouting many tails from its body. Scoping up a portion of Asriel's remains, he broke out of the cage and crossed the barrier."

"The human, now a beast, ran to his village where he buried Asriel's remains in the center of the village so he could spend eternity there."

"Suddenly, screams rang out from the humans, they attacked the beast with everything they had and the human attacked them back, destroying their village and killing some of the humans. But as fearsome as the human was, the shinobi were even stronger and they subdued him."

"By ripping the monster's essence from the child's body, the human was on the verge of death and he crawled back home crying along the way until he couldn't any longer."

"The human entered the castle, expressing his grief and misery to Asgore and Toriel then collapsed, his blood staining the golden flowers a dark red."

"The kingdom fell into despair and our anger for humans had grown. The king and queen had lost both of their children in one night. The humans had once again taken everything from us and without remorse."

"The king decided to end our suffering, every human who falls down here must die, but the humans were one step ahead of us once again and purposely dumped the worst kinds of humans in the Undergound."

"We were desperate for revenge and tried a countless number of times to use the human souls they dumped down here to break the barrier,,but the souls were too weak."

"Only humans who could emit chakra, the opposite of magic, were of any use, we finally realized, and we begin collecting those specialized types of humans in order to shatter the barrier."

The monsters faced Naruto. "It's not long now." One of them said. "King Asgore will give us hope."

One turned into many and they all started chanting, their words clashing together, and muddling into a loud mess.

"You should be excited too."

"Why aren't you happy?"

"You're going to be free."

"You're going to save us."

"You're going to die."

Naruto ran away from the monsters, monsters who he knew, monsters whom he all faced in one way or another, were all against him and wishing for his death. He kept on running and running until he ended up in a corridor where their voices couldn't reach him.

The corridor was bathed in golden light that bounced off the soft orange checkered tile floor and the arched windows bearing the same Dreemur crest that was on his shirt.

"So you finally made it."

Sans suddenly flickered in front of Naruto's face and he jumped back. "STOP SCARING ME LIKE THAT!" Naruto shrieked.

"Heh...you really are at the end of your journey, huh? It's hard to believe an idiot kid like you is gonna determine the fate of our world, but that's later, right now, you will be judged."

"For what?"

"For everything. Every action, every EXP you've earned."

"What's EXP?"

"It's an acronym."

"What's an—"

"All you need to know is that it stands for execution points, it's like a way to measure how much pain you've inflicted upon others and while admittedly it's hard to do in this format, I did it. And when you kill someone, your EXP increase, get a certain amount of EXP and your LOVE, your Level of violence, increases. LOVE measures your capacity to kill."

"Wait seriously like some kind of video game?"

"Exactly like some kind of video game, the more you kill, the easier it is to distance yourself and make killing hurt a lot less. In your case, if your LOVE increased to a certain point, it's likely the tailed beast inside you would've completely come out and kill you in the process."

'That sounds scary…'

"...but you never gained any LOVE, 'course that doesn't make you some sort of angel, it just means, despite all the hardships you faced and all the times you've been treated like trash, you always did the right thing and never hurt 'em back. Even though there were a few hiccups along the way, you always made a point to fix your mistakes. No, you never gained any LOVE but you didn't gain some love. I'm actually kind of...proud of you, that takes guts, kid, considering where you came from."

Naruto's face turned bright red. "You really think so? I mean, it wasn't that big of a deal, I was just doing what anyone else would've done and things just kinda happened, y'know?"

'This kid...' "You know what? I take that back, you're just a lousy brat."

"And you're just a lazy skeleton."

"Yeah, I know."

"But now that you mention it, I am kind of scared to face Asgore now, with the whole 'determine the fate of this world' stuff."

"Whatever you do out there, our world either ends or begins with you. Just keep on doing the things you've been doing and find a way to get us all out of here like you always say."

"I'll keep on saying it until it comes true."

"Right, right, just know that I believe you, we...some of us do and we're counting on you, Kid. Good luck."

"Got it."

Naruto walked out of the corridor and down a long, gray hallway. He recounted his entire journey up to this point before venturing through to the long awaited throne room.

'I hope I'll get to see them all again soon...'

-Throne Room-

The entire floor was covered in vibrant golden flowers, a tall, fuzzy monster draped with a pale, purple cape stood in the middle of the flowers back turned against the doorway. Naruto shifted his way through them to get to the towering monster, the yellow petals lightly scraping against his knees.

"Hey, you, Goat guy! You're...King Asgore, aren't you?"

"...just a moment...I'm almost finished watering these." Asgore set the watering can down and turned to Naruto.

For a brief moment, the two, Asgore and Naruto, locked eyes with each other then quickly turning away. They both knew neither of them wanted to go through with this.

"I really wish I could say 'would you like a cup of tea' right now…" Asgore blurted out.

Naruto studied the flowers, then looked back up at Asgore blonde-bearded face. "...we should get this over with already. I'm ready to fight you."

"Uh..ok...um…" Asgore started walking towards the exit. "Follow me...you don't need to look so upset, just think of it as a...visit to the dentist...ha...maybe that wasn't the best example…" He rambled.

For once, Naruto kept to himself, immersed in his own thoughts, he didn't even realize when Asgore suddenly stopped and bumped into him. 'Gah...why is his back so hard?!'

"Are you ready?"

Naruto nodded, rubbing his forehead, and they went on into a spacious room containing a single, large barrier. "This is the barrier," Asgore said. "If you have any unfinished—"

"No. Let's go."

"Whatever you do, you have no choice but to fight me," Seeing Asgore tear off his cloak, revealing his heavy armor and massive, blood red trident didn't startle Naruto nearly as much as hearing the chilling tone of his voice when he said those words to him.

Asgore pointed his trident at Naruto's color drained face and said, slowly, "You have the first move."

Naruto jumped on Asgore's trident and ran across it. Acting quickly, Asgore threw his trident on the ground and swallowed his fists in an indistinguishable fire, but when he looked back, Naruto was gone. "Where is that boy…" He muttered.

*BAM

Naruto landed a punch on Asgore's cheek slinging his head sideways, then another to his jaw, instead of going in for another, he jumped back to the far edge of the room and ran upside the wall. Asgore bulldozed after the spiky blonde, leaving a trail of fire behind him, he punched the spot where Naruto was at, but produced nothing but a big hole in the wall. 'That boy is fast,'

Asgore spun around and ran after him, stopping only to pick up his trident. 'This should stop him.' He positioned the trident at his moving target and balls of fire shot out from the tips.

Naruto ran away as the fireballs pelted the walls, creating crater sized holes. '...before I can do anything, I have to get rid of the trident.' He dove through the hole Asgore first punched through. 'I need to think of something quick before he gets here!'

Asgore's arm thrust out of the hole. "...!" Naruto slashed his arm with his kunai knife then carefully jumped back, for the brief moment Naruto stood there, petrified, Asgore made his devastating attack.

"...I'm...sorry."

Naruto stared at Asgore's, now orange, trident. The prongs were lodged deep inside his body, thankfully they missed his vital organs, but no doubt the blood loss from the already giant puddle of thick blood stick surrounding his mangled body would kill him fairly quickly. "Me too," Naruto said, blood thrashing down his chin.

The same color of the blood around him drowned out the blueness of Naruto's eyes, his teeth sharpened, and his fingernails become claws. "I WON'T LET YOU KILL ME." In a quick swipe, Asgore's trident snapped in half and Naruto sprung up. Ripping the trident out of his body, he pulled his arm back and lunged at Asgore.

Naruto's punch sent Asgore flying back into the main room and slamming against the barrier. Naruto pinned his soft head onto the barrier wall, then reeled his arm back. "I remember the day after my son died…" Asgore said in a voice barely above a whisper.

"..." His arm relaxed, but his hold was still tight.

"The entire underground was devoid of hope...the humans had taken everything away from us so I declared war on them in a pit of rage."

"I said I would kill any human who came here and take their soul to become godlike and free us from this...prison. I would destroy all of humanity so monsters could rule on the surface, although the monsters were happy with my declaration, my wife was disgusted and she left, never to come back."

"To tell you the truth...I do not want power or to hurt anyone anymore, I just wanted to give the monsters hope, but I can't go on with this anymore. All I want is to see my wife and children, just one more time. Please, this war has gone on long enough, take my soul and leave this prison."

"Take...your...soul?" Naruto could feel it, the longer he stayed in the fox's cloak, the more he could feel the nine tails chewing away at his soul, his determination, his...being. He was getting closer to losing full control of himself, becoming that beast again he loathed so strongly. And he had absolutely no control over it.

"I..I don't want you to die...I-I don't wanna kill you…" Naruto's hand squeezed his head tighter and tighter, like a machine. "...A-Asgore I—I don't care anymore!" The cloak dispersed and Naruto buried his head under Asgore's own head.

"You have to get away from me Asgore so I won't hurt you when I lose myself. I'll come back, I swear I will, I'll save you monsters, then we can all be happy…"

"...just hurry back so you, me and Toriel...we can all be a family, together."

*SLASH

Asgore's head rolled off his neck and tumbled onto the ground, his body slowly disintegrating into white dust. Naruto gazed at Asgore's dust, he scooped up a handful and watched as the particles seeped through the crevices of his finger. What was left was a small seed sitting in his hand.

"You're such an IDIOT!" A familiar starchy voice announced. Flowey popped up behind Naruto wearing his usual delightfully twisted face and said, "Tsk, haven't you learned a single thing about being cooped up in a cave where everyone hates you…"

"IT'S KILL OR BE KILLED."

Part 1

Chapter 1: Rift

Long ago, two races ruled over Earth: Humans and Monsters

One day, war broke out between the two races

After a long battle, the humans were victorious

They sealed the monsters underground with a powerful jutsu

Many years later…

His bright red ball teetered through the mouth of a small cave opening. Naruto stood there, dumbfounded at what happened. He hesitated. '...how am I here again?'

"HEHEHAHA!"

Everything was suddenly drenched in darkness. After a few moments of dead silence, Flowey's face emerged from the shadows, just the sight of his putrid little face made Naruto's blood boil.

"Howdy!" The sound of his voice made Naruto slip into the fox cloak.

"It's me, Flowey! Flowey the flower!" Hearing his named made his claws and teeth sharpen. "I owe you a huge thanks! You really did a number on that geezer! Without you, I never would have gotten past him, but now with your help, he's dead."

He snapped. His cloak turned a deep, dark red and his eyes and mouth hollowed out.

"Oh boy, look at you, you really are a freak! But don't worry, when I get your soul, I'll be a GOD and then monsters….humans...everyone can see the true meaning of this world! Your little fanfiction ends here. After I kill you, it'll be called Floweytale from now on, HEHEHAHA!"

Naruto watched Flowey transform into a gigantic thing, indescribable by words. In an instant, several thousand pellets the size of his own head and squirming vines came at him, but with a short handed tailed beast ball he was able to easily destroy them and pounced onto Omega Flowey's spiny arms.

Reaching a certain point where he could no longer continue, he fired a compact wave of chakra at Omega Flowey's 'head', though it did little more than a scratch. Suddenly, the screen comprising Omega Flowey's 'face' started flickering and it projected a deep blue soul on the TV screen. Right beside him, a copy of himself with a deep blue heart across his chest appeared. With no time to even take a breath, Omega Flowey came back and started launching bombs at them, quickly, Naruto grabbed the blue soul copy of himself and threw it towards the bombs.

The blue soul shot a powerful beam destroying the incoming beams as well as part of Flowey's thick arm. However, that was the last attack had as they spent their time dodging from all the craziness Omega Flowey threw at them. While amidst all the dodging, another flickering came with this time, a yellow soul coming on the TV screen. Another copy appeared, the yellow soul, and it immediately began charging up for a devastating tailed beast ball. Meanwhile the blue soul was working on scaling Omega Flowey's ferocious body.

Naruto jumped over the finger bullets and into the center where a white chakra beam tore straight from his mouth and dug into the screen. Nothing, still. He retreated to his original spot and grabbed one of the incoming finger bullets, then threw it at the pink mouth thing coming from the TV screen. Right after, the screen flickered showing a brown soul. The third soul copy formed and hacked away at the thick tune like wires hanging off of the screen.

Naruto dodged more and more vines, coming faster each time, some were even on fire, until the brown and yellow soul destroyed them with a chakra wave. When the fourth and final green soul came at last with TV screen flickering yet again, there wasn't another copy made, instead all four souls merged into Naruto's body giving him the size and power to rival Omega Flowey.

He clutched Omega Flowey, reeling his arm back, his punch smashed straight through the once impenetrable TV screen.

"THIS….THIS CAN'T BE HAPPENING!" Omega Flowey wailed.

Naruto locked his jaws onto the TV screen and tore it off from its 'body', then threw it on the ground.

"YOU IDIOT!" His voice sounded muffled due to being face down on the floor. "I'LL KILL YOU!"

The pink mouth thing shot a powerful beam of its own, carving a giant hole through Naruto's body.

Just like that, Naruto's body returned to normal, and just like that, Omega Flowey shot several vines through his body recreating the giant hole.

It went back forth again and again until Omega Flowey gave up and circled pellets around Naruto's body.

"HA...DID YOU REALLY THINK YOU COULD DEFEAT ME...I AM THE GOD OF THIS WORLD!"

"AND YOU? YOU'RE HOPELESS...HOPELESS AND ALONE...AH, THAT'S RIGHT, WHERE'S YOUR WORTHLESS FRIENDS YOU HOLD SO DEARLY NOW?! WHERE ARE—"

*CRACK

The crushed seeds fell onto the floor from the cusps of Naruto's claw. He destroyed Omega Flowey's body's with a chakra bomb and turned to the TV screen still miraculously intact.

"...Go ahead...GO AHEAD AND KILL ME!"

Naruto pried open his mouth and a skeleton of the nine tailed fox slowly rose, fleshy pink muscles and tendons started wrapping around the skeleton giving it a more disturbing appearance. Just as his soul was slipping away into the clutches of the nine tails and into the bricks of destruction, the four souls surrounded him, suppressing the emerging fox.

'It's ok to be...afraid.'

'...but don't let it control you.'

Naruto collapsed, his body saturated with blood, he though he exasperated every last drop of energy from his body, but when he saw Flowey sticking out of all the debris he forced himself to crawl towards the flower. Ignoring all the screams from his muscles to stop, he continued forward, rage was his only fuel.

He plucked Flowey from out of the debris, squeezing him tightly as he muttered a few words to him, "...I should kill you for everything you've done to me."

"You think I've had a change of heart, don't you? That I learned something?"

"Not really, just how pathetic would I be to kill a little flower. You can't even do anything for yourself without the help of others."

"If you don't kill me...I'll come back...and I'll kill you…"

"I know, but I won't let you."

"...I'll kill everyone...everyone you love…"

"Give it up, already."

"..."

"...?"

"Why?"

"Why are you being so nice to me?"

"I don't...know, I hate you so much, but when I try to force myself to kill you...I can't."

"I don't understand….I don't….I can't...I can't understand." Flowey freed himself from Naruto's grasp and plunged under the earth, then he finally collapsed.

OoO

When Naruto woke up, all that was left was a giant door, the barrier was gone. Waves of bright yellow light shone through the opening and lit up the room. It felt like an eternity since he'd ever seen light, he stood up, the light encompassing his body. Ahead would be the surface, his village, his sensei...all the people who hated him, but also a new sense of determination. "...!"

"...I...still don't where my ball is...damn..."

End of Part 1

A/N: Ok, I should clarify the Asgore fight a bit, the last part Asgore turned his trident orange which meant Naruto would have to move to get past it...he didn't and was impailed as a result. Though that didn't really matter since his wounds healed anyways when he went into fox cloak mode. And that's about all I have to say about that.

The neutral route has been a fun ride and thanks to everyone who's stayed with me this entire time. Next chapter starts part 2, and I'm super excited for it. 'Till next time;)
