Here's chapter 28! I just realized that is pretty long. Well for me at least :) We do have a tie for the names so I'm going to kept asking you all to vote except this time, it's down to two! If you already voted, I can't count your votes twice sadly. The two final options are:
Andrew
Alex
agb1700 : Thank you and I'm really glad you do!
Guest : Thank you for the vote!
b. loves. books: No problem and I'm glad you like all the names!
Dhenn618 : Awwww thanks bunches
! I hope you enjoy this chapter as well!
just-A-Girl-1517 : I really like it too ;) ….. but I can't vote :*( ….. but I like having you all vote :)
prnamber3909 : Hehehe it has been slightly confusing. So you know about the guerrilla, right? They basically don't want to be like the rebels and tear down the monarchy. They just want advancement. By advancement I mean, they have resources like the super computer that could 'advance' the country. They want to be able to go inside everybody's brains and make it so it is all a system. A system which is extremely dangerous because it limit's a human's power. They want to take away the one thing that we all think is guaranteed. The power to make our own choices and our own decisions without being forced to do something else. I hope this clears things up a tiny bit and if you want any more clarification you can PM me :)
Theselectedwriter : Thanks for voting and I hope you like this chapter!
Chapter 28:
"You have absolutely no idea how happy I am that you're here," I said giving Marlee a hug.
It has been three weeks since Maxon left. They were coming back soon and I was so grateful. It made me know that Maxon would be here with me. We heard nothing else from the guerilla. Also, Maxon said we wouldn't have contact with them for the last week due to data stealing.
We were right and all of our calls were going to them. Luckily we had all been careful, but Maxon said they couldn't let them know anything else. Plus, calling while they were on the ocean was hard. The connection was beyond awful.
Their trip hadn't succeeded, but at least we got information. They were going to come back here and try to figure out how the guerilla was taking the calls. That might lead to a location. Another thing we could do is send a video.
None of us knew what would happen next. Everyone wanted me to take it easy because I had 3 weeks left in the pregnancy.
I called Marlee here because being the only lady in a council filled with men was a pain. They all thought in strange ways which sounds sort of rude.
I just needed somebody to talk to and get advice from. My best friend coming and living in the palace was definitely something I needed. Also, since Carter was a part of our troops and was with Maxon, she knew what I was going through.
"I'm glad to be here as well. I literally can't wait until Carter is back," Marlee said worriedly.
This was strange considering how optimistic she normally was.
"Why? What happened?" I asked hurriedly.
"Well Carter knows, but we haven't gotten to talk. I called him, but he said things were being tracked and I told him, but then it got cut off and-," Marlee said in a hurried manner.
"Wait Marlee, what did you tell him?"
"I'm pregnant and you see I told him, but right then all the communication was cut off." She said exasperated.
"You're pregnant?! That's amazing; I know how much you love kids!" I said absolutely happy for my best friend.
"Thank you, but right now I just really want Carter back."
"I know the feeling and it'll be okay. He'll be back soon and everything will be fine. I can even throw you a baby shower," I said giving a smile filled with hope.
"America, why didn't you have a baby shower?" Marlee asked me.
It suddenly hit me that I really didn't.
My eyebrows were furried together and I was beyond confused. The royal family would invite Queens, Princesses, and Duchesses from around the world to celebrate.
"Please don't tell me you forgot. It's supposed to be a grand celebration," Marlee said laughing.
"Well considering the events that have recently been happening, a baby shower would be both dangerous and unnecessary. We can't waste money for something like this. Plus, normally on the 8th month they throw the party. Maxon's oversea and we're practically at war with the guerrilla. Thinking of something like this is remarkably unreasonable." I said shaking my head.
"Oh my goodness America, you sound like a Queen. What happened to you?" Marlee asked giggling.
"I had to step up to be worthy of my King," I said smirking.
"Oh please, more like you were left to basically rule… alone…. this entire country….. while you're 8 months pregnant….. and your husband is overseas." She said.
"You know maybe that is the right answer," I said with a smile.
"So how have you been doing with all of this. I'd probably have given up by now," Marlee said returning to her gentle voice rather than the one that was laughing.
"Um, I guess I'm okay. I'm not going to repeat what you said, but just everything that has been going on has been hard. I guess knowing that we're still here as a country and we're all still alive is what keeps me going. Trust me, I've seen the cities and they don't look so good, but at least everybody knows we're trying. I was on the report alone last week and I just let them know what was going on. If I hid it, they'd hate us even more. At least all the magazine articles now aren't titled, 'King and Queen are failures'." I said looking down.
"I'm sure they weren't like that, America…" Marlee said sadly.
"Oh really because that's exactly what they were like… and they even have every right to be; that's what sucks. " I said in a bit of an angrier tone.
"It's tough for them too. At least they know you understand. Have you read the article about some advice you gave. It was amazing. There were tons of good articles as well including guesses on names for your little son. You're keeping this country going. You, Maxon, and your son. They all still love you. You're doing an interview tomorrow, right?"
"Thank you and yes I am. I don't even know what it'll be about," I said shaking my head.
"Well just know that it'll all work out. I feel bad for complaining that Carter isn't here when your situation seems tough. Now, come on. I really would love to see my room," Marlee said putting on her optimistic smile.
I led Marlee to her room and she decided to take a shower. I was walking up to my own to see if I could take a power nap. I was getting extremely tired at this stage.
I walked up the stairs and started for my room. As I was walking I bumped into Aspen.
"America?" Aspen said.
"Oh, sorry didn't see you."
"No no, it's alright. How are you?"
"Umm okay…. Marlee came here," I said looking into his green eyes.
"That's good…" He said awkwardly.
"Mmhmm," I said my eyes closing.
I yawned and said, "Well I'm going to go take a fifteen minute nap, I'll be in the meeting soon."
He shook his head. "I'm not letting you do that. Maxon told me to make sure you would work too hard and you would take rest."
"No one has time for that," I said leaning on his shoulder.
He chuckled and then led me to my room.
He knocked on the door and I heard my maids answer.
"Oh dear," Anne said.
"Huh," I said looking up.
"Bring her to the bed," One of them said hurriedly.
"Are you okay, should I get the doctor?"
That snapped me to reality and I sat up.
"No no, I just… I'm fine. I'm going to sleep and it'll be okay," I said shaking my head.
"I think she just needs some water," I heard Aspen say.
"Probably," I heard Lucy reply.
"I have to go, but I'll see you later Lucy," he said giving a kiss on her forehead.
"Okay, I'll go get something for America," she replied with a smile.
After they left, I couldn't help, but drift off to sleep.
I do have a good reason why this chapter is short! It was originally really long, but I split it up. Why? Well I would've of either updated today and not update for nearly another week or give you a short one today and another tomorrow or the day after so you could have something to read. I decided on the second so… yeh. Please do keep reviewing, reading, following, and adding this story to favorites. Thanks!
