Chibi-Usa wandered around her richly appointed suite. This was much nicer than the Sorceress' dim caves. She would join Princess Ozma in the search for the magic shoes in the morning. Ozma had assured Chibi-Usa that they were around somewhere.
After searching in every possible nook and cranny around the palace, Chibi-Usa surveyed the treasure room. It resembled an old attic full of junk. She picked up a mirror off the shelf and quickly dropped it again. The scene had changed from her face and began flashing between several different scenes.
"That's my scrying mirror," commented Ozma. "I wondered where it had gotten. Last time I saw it, it looked like a landscape painting on the wall of my sitting room. Every so often things in the palace seem to rearrange themselves."
"There they are," she added as she began digging through a large wicker basket, half hidden behind an old wardrobe. She held up one pointy toe silver slipper with a ruby strap and trim. "Now to find the other one." Ozma dove into the basket again.
Returned to the throne room, the freshly polished slippers gleamed as the fussy attendant gave them a final swipe. Ozma continued her conversation with Chibi-Usa. "I know Dorothy acquired them from the Wicked Witch of the West when her house squashed the witch. I never thought much about where the witch might have gotten them."
Chibi-Usa asked, "How do they work?"
"If you put them on and tap the heels together three times while wishing very hard, they will take you where you want to go," Ozma answered.
Sitting down immediately right where she was, Chibi-Usa put on the slippers, stowing her own shoes in her pack. "Thank you so much Ozma. I can finally take these to the Sorceress and fulfill my quest. And then go home!" she exclaimed as she faded from view.
