"Dumbledore didn't do anything?"
"He just walked away?"
"IDIOT!"
"I know, right?"
"A body? Do you think he murdered someone?"
"Merlin's beard!"
"I've never heard of that spell."
"James has an Invisibility Cloak?" Jazz nodded. Lily looked thoughtful.
"Where was Remus?" Lily asked. Jazz sighed.
"He was in the Hospital Wing, sick again." Cherry frowned.
"Wasn't he just sick a month ago?" Lily and Jazz both nodded. Cherry tilted her head. She flopped off the bed, and started digging in her trunk, ignoring the odd looks she was getting from her roommates.
"Cherry, what are you doing?" asked Lily cautiously . No reply. After a few more minutes of Cherry's rummaging, and the other girls exchanging confused looks, Cherry cried out,
"AHA!" She pulled out a little orange book, and waved it in the air triumphantly. Her friends stared at her, both in curiosity, and worry that their friend was insane.
"What is it?" questioned Alice.
"It's a journal! We can write down all the odd things about Remus, and the dates he's sick! Maybe it'll help us find out the mystery of Remus Lupin!" Her friends stared at her. Jazz and Lily were wearing identical frowns on their faces.
"Isn't that kinda...nosing? It's not exactly our business," said Lily. Cherry rolled her eyes.
"It's Jazz's business, cause he's her best friends. We're her best friends, so that automatically makes it our business." Lily sighed.
"Maybe we should just go to bed?" offered Alice. Jazz yawned.
"Splendid idea, Ms. Prewett," said Lily sleepily, and the girls drooped off to sleep, leaving Cherry jotting sown notes about Remus Lupin.
"Yawn. Ya-wn. YAWN. Y-a-w-n. Yawning," said Jazz experimentally. Cherry groaned.
"Jazz, shut thou crazy face." Jazz tilted her head slightly.
"But 'yawn' is such an interesting word! Right, Lily? Lily agrees with me! Cause she is the Lily of all Lily's of all the Lilies of the world!" Lily lifted her head, to see Jazz bouncing on her bed.
"Jazz, you are my best friend, right?"
"Of course, yeah!"
"Will you do me a super important favor, that means a lot to me?"
"Of course my flower! Hey, I am also a flower! Lily is a flower, and so is Jasmine! OHMYGOSH! SO IS CHERRY! We're all flowers! Except Alice. She is not a flower. But she is a cat! An alley-cat! And cats eat flowers. I think. My old cat did, he ate tulips. He was orange. His name was Caramel. And he used to-"
"SHUT UP!"
"Okey dokey! Pepsi cokey! AHAHAHAHAHAH! That is so funny!" Cherry sighed, and glanced at Alice. They both nodded at each other in agreement. It was time to get help.
"Hey, Jazzy, wanna go downstairs?" Jazz bared her teeth, and then said sweetly,
"Nope, I'm afraid of stairs." Alice sighed in exasperation.
"Wanna go see your friends?" tried Lily. Jazz frowned, and tapped her chin.
"But I'm already seeing you guys!" exclaimed Jazz. Lily moaned in distress.
"I mean Lupin and the rest of the idiots!" Jazz's face split into a smile. She began giggling hysterically.
"Jamie, and Siri, and REMMY!" she sang, still laughing madly. "And Petey!"
""Let's go, Jazz," said Lily. The girls trooped down the stairs, accompanied by the very insane Jasmine Stone. When they reached the edge of the boys' dormitory, Lily bellowed,
"POTTER!" No answer came from the boys' dorm. "Ugh," said Lily. "Potter! Get your filthy arse down here!"
"MMPH!" came the reply from James. A foot appeared and then a ruffle James Potter slid down the stairs. He yawned loudly. "What do you want, Evans?" he asked rudely. She sighed, as if even the sight of James repulsed her.
"This." She shoved Jazz at James, who launched herself at him happily, and hugged him.
"Jamesie, my boy! HI!"
"Oof." James collapsed, and groaned.
"Jazz, why the hell are you so perky?" he said, running a slender, tanned hand, through his already untidy hair. Jazz bounced up and down on her toes. Lily shrugged.
"Fix it." James pushed his glasses up with the tip of his finger.
"No need to be such a prick, Evans, I shall do what I can,"he said. "REMUS LUPIN!" He shouted loudly, making everyone wince, except Jazz, who had grown used to his tactics. A muffled sound came from the boys' dorm. Jazz and Lily's hearts both skipped a beat, as an exhausted Remus Lupin came down. His hair was ruffled, and his half-closed eyes were squinting at the bright lights. He was wearing plain black tank top, and a pair of pajama pants that were striped black and grey. Lily let out a small squeak. He yawned.
"What do you want, James?" he asked, falling back on the couch. "Morning, Jazz. Lily." Jazz grinned.
"Remmy! REMUS! HAHAHAHAHA!" she yelled energetically. Remus lifted his head.
"Lily?"
"Mmm?"
"Is something wrong with Jazz?" he questioned her. Lily nodded.
"That is why we called you." Remus laughed weakly, and got up and stretched. He yawned again, and walked over to Jazz. She was still giggling madly.
"Smells like a Pepper-Up potion," he observed.
"Well, she's definitely peppery," said James grumpily, once again running his hand through his hair. Jazz ran over to him, and started examining his hand, giggling to herself.
"Ooh, pretty, pretty, hand!" she said, chuckling. Remus nodded to himself.
"Yeah, tose are the side effects of too much of that particular brew. Random blurtings, crazy thoughts, hyper-active neurons, synapses a bit closer than usual so thoughts jump more often than usual, nucleuses decrease by the reciprocal of..." James and Lily stared at him, while Jazz hopped on on foot.
"He knows everything," said James disbelievingly. He turned to Lily. "How is it that he knows everything?" Lily shrugged.
"He just does," was her reply. Jazz smirked at her redhead friends.
"Bet you like that," whispered Jazz to Lily.
"Jazz!" Lily blushed crimson, as Jazz rolled around the floor, laughing. Remus and James had a puzzled expression on their faces.
"Um...what?" said James uncertainly. Jazz giggled, as Lily shook her head fiercely. Remus groaned, as Jazz started singing some muggle song by someone named Taylor Clift. "Someone needs to take her to the Hospital Wing," announced James, irritated. Remus sighed.
"I guess I'll do it. Lily, want to come with?" Remus asked. Lily blushed, and nodded. Remus started towards the door.
"Um...Remus?" He turned to her, and she blushed even more. Merlin, she needed to get that under control. "Um, maybe you should...putonashirt."
"Come again?"
"Oh for Merlin's sake, put on a shirt Rem!" yelled Jazz impatiently. Lily blushed, and Remus laughed at Jazz, who was glaring at him.
"Lily? Are you alright?" Lily nodded, confused.
"Why do you ask?"
"Your face is all red."
"Will she be okay?" asked Remus urgently. Lily looked away. Did Remus fancy Jazz? No way! They were obviously just friends. But-
"Lily. Lily? Hello?" Remus was calling her. She averted her eyes, and wait for it- she blushed.
"Sorry. Um, what were you saying?"
"I asked if you would wait here with Jazz while I go get the others."
"Others?"
"James, Sirius, and Peter." Lily nodded. He grinned at her, and left the Wing, leaving Lily alone with an unconscious Jazz, and Madam Pomfrey. Pomfrey stared wistfully after him, making Lily giggle.
"Such a nice boy, such a shame," muttered the healer. Lily was puzzled by the woman's words, but it did her no good to dwell, so she let the thoughts slip from her mind. Lily heard a weak cough. Jazz had woke.
"Jazz, you're up!"
"I noticed," said Jazz grumpily. "Merlin, what happened to me? I feel like my head just gave birth to a gorila."
"Interesting comparison," said Lily dryly. Madam Pomfrey bustled in, and started her usual routine; forcing potions down Jazz's throat, causing her to splutter and cough violently when the nurse left the room.
"Stupid Pom-poms," muttered Jazz. Remus Lupin walked in the door, accompanied by none other than the Marauders. Remus's face lit up, when he saw that his friend was fine. Peter waved at her.
"Jazz, you're alright!" Jazz groaned.
"Why do my friends like to state the obvious?" she asked, irritated. Remus grinned,, and ruffled her already-tousled hair. She swatted him, and for good measure, stuck her tongue out at James.
"What's wrong with you?" he asked her, playfully punching her on the arm. She grinned.
"Duh. Everything." He laughed loudly, along with Remus and Sirius, bringing a smile to the girl's face.
"Jazz, you should have seen yourself when you had the potion. You were more delusional than usual!" said James happily. Jazz stared at her friend with a raised eyebrow.
"I'm glad you noticed. But one question, James?"
"And what would that be, my dear Jazz?"
"Who gave me the potion?" James shrugged.
"Sorry, princess, we had nothing to do with it. This time." Lily arched an eyebrow at the word princess.
"And why should I believe that?" said Jazz haughtily. Sirius yawned.
"Because you woke us all up. Think about it. Would we really play a prank where we actually had to get up?" Jazz considered this, and shrugged. Then she looked at her friend.
"Remus, why are you wearing pajama pants?" Remus laughed and Lily giggled. Yes, you heard right. Lily Evans giggled. Jazz and James were watching them with raised eyebrows.
"Well, you were acting like an idiot-"
"Gee, thanks for telling me that again."
"I didn't exactly have time to change while you were bouncing like a maniac," he finally managed to say. Jazz looked thoughtful.
"Remus, were you wearing a shirt?" He turned red.
"Ah...kind of." Jazz snapped her fingers.
"So that's why Lily was blush-MMPH!" James had chucked a pillow at her, because both Lily and Remus's faces were a bright red. Jazz glared at James, but winked at Remus, who blushed even more. He could only hope that Lily, Jazz, and James had not noticed the scars and cuts on his arms. Remus's thoughts wandered to last night's full moon.
He thanked Madam Pomfrey, before he undressed silently, and stowed away his wand in a place that the wolf could not reach. Remus could feel the moon magnetizing his veins, and pulling him to the brink of his mind. The moon rose, and Remus let out a scream of terror. It had been seven years, and even the sight once-in-his-eyes beautiful moon still frightened him to death.
He let out another scream of pain, as fur erupted, taking the place of his milky-white skin. It felt as if the skin was being ripped of his fragile body, and as if it were to be replaced with needles. He straight teeth lengthened into blood thirsty fangs, which were bared dangerously. His eyes changed from emerald to topaz, from green to amber. His long eyelashes suddenly felt as if they were painfully jabbing his mutated eyes. His white teeth faded into a disturbing and sickening shade of yellow. Pain bubbled up inside of him, and exploded like a gunshot. His mouth was replaced by a sniffing snout that belonged to the wolf hidden inside. Tears streamed down his face as he struggled to keep control of his mind, though he knew he couldn't hold on forever. A growl slipped unwillingly from the young boy's mouth.
The wolf fought back, beginning to regain control as it did every month. Remus's last thoughts before the wolf took over were; what did he ever do to deserve a night of excruciating pain such as this? The last bit of control he had over his mind slipped away, and the piercing pain would now wait until morning. His pained screams turned to mournful howls that could be heard from a great distance away. Where a boy once stood, was a terrifying wolf. A monster.
"Remus? REMUS!" Remus blinked.
"Um, sorry, What?" Jazz shook her head.
"We've been calling you for the last three minutes!" Remus shrugged.
"I said sorry, so whatever!" Jazz grinned at him. Remus looked at his watch, and shot up.
"We have classes! Lily, Peter, let's go!" Lily looked confused.
"Why not Potter and Black?" Remus looked at her as if this was an obvious question with an obvious answer.
"Because obviously! Jazz is in the Hospital Wing," said Peter.
"Um...so what?" said Lily. The boys and Jazz looked at her as if she had grown a second head. Remus sighed.
"Because Jazz is in the Hospital, for once they actually have an excuse for skipping class. Now let's go, McGonagall is so going to murder us."
"Sorry we're late, Professor, it won't happen again."
"Quite alright, I suppose. Where is Mr. Black, Potter, and Ms. Stone?"
"They're in the Hospital Wing, Professor. Jazz accidentally had too much Pepper-up potion," said Remus, handing her the note that Madam Pomfrey had given them. Professor McGonagall inspected the note, and nodded slightly. Remus, Lily, and Peter took their seats as Professor McGonagall continued her lecture. A Hufflepuff was asleep on her desk, snoring slightly. Out of the whole class, only Remus and Lily were actually paying attention, leaning forward and listening with rapt attention. They were also the only ones who noticed when Professor Dumbledore walked in. He let out a little as he saw the first years asleep on their matchsticks. Dumbledore whispered something to McGonagall, who paled visibly. Remus and Lily exchanged puzzled looks.
"Class dismissed!" yelled Professor McGonagall suddenly.
"But we just got here," grumbled Remus. Most of the class jumped from their slumber, and started packing their supplies. Remus shook Peter awake.
"Um, should we just go back to the Hospital Wing?" asked Lily. Peter nodded, and Remus agreed. The three strolled to the Wing, chatting animatedly about the disruption that had occurred during class. As the three reached the Hospital Win, they were greeted by a grim looking Madam Pomfrey. James was ruffling his hair in distress. He wore an expression of terror and confusion. There was a hint of anger etched into the boy's face. Sirius also did not look so good, as he was frantically pacing the Hospital Wing, a disheveled look to his usually elegant appearance. Remus's grin disappeared. ames looked up.
"Do you know why classes were dismissed early?" he said in a low voice, unlike his own. Remus, Lily, and Peter slowly shook their heads. James's breathing was heavy. Lily looked at Madam Pomfrey, who looked frightened.
"Just tell us what happened!" said Remus impatiently. James gulped, and said,
"Jazz and Cherry have been...have been..."
"Kidnapped. Abducted. Stolen. Call it whatever you want, but they're gone," finished Sirius. Remus blinked. Lily gasped. Peter fainted.
"Hello?" said Jazz. Her surroundings were pitch black.
"Pom-poms? James, Sirius? Anyone?" Her eyes narrowed as their was no reply. Where was she? The last thing she remembered was a flash of red light. Shuffling noises could be heard nearby. Jazz froze and pulled out her wand.
"Hello?" she said again, more cautiously this time.
"Jazz?"
"Cherry?"
"What are you doing here?"
"Um, I don't know. Where exactly are we?" Cherry buried her face in her hands.
"Okay, where do I start...We've been kidnapped." Jazz opened her mouth to speak, but Cherry held up a hand. "Just wait. Okay, we've been kidnapped by these morons called Death Eaters." Jazz had to stifle a laugh.
"Death Eaters?"
"You might laugh," said Cherry darkly. "But one of the goons was the man you guys saw last night, and they are downright insane. Like, killer insane. They only like pure-bloods, and we're both half-bloods, so they won't be the nicest to us. And no, I have no idea why we're here," said Cherry. Jazz had a puzzled look on her face.
"So what is the point of kidnapping us?" Cherry shrugged.
"Like I said, I have absolutely no idea. But the aurors are probably looking for us."
"Aurors?"
"Dark wizard catchers."
"Dark...wizards?"
Remus tapped his foot impatiently. Sirius and James were batting a paper ball back and forth. Peter was eating. Lily and Alice were sitting quietly, not making as sound. Suddenly, Sirius stood up, letting the ball fall to the floor. All eyes rested upon him. He threw his hands up.
"Why are we waiting here?" he said. Lily sighed as he continued. "Our best friends are missing!"
"Sirius, the aurors are looking for them, now calm down," said Lily.
"No! I will not just sit here while Jazz and Cherry have been kidnapped BY MURDERERS!" Sirius was shouting by now.
"BLACK! If we go, we'll be in danger too!" Sirius looked her in the eye, and said slowly,
"I. Don't. Care." Lily fumed.
"You prat, stop being a reckless idiot!"
"We are going! Is your own safety more important to you then your friends? Who's with me?"
"UGH, Black, no one is actually going to-"
"I'm in," interrupted Alice. They all turned to her in surprise. The petite girl shrugged.
"Count me in too," said James.
"Me too!" added Peter.
"Same here," said Remus. They all looked at Lily expectingly. She sighed.
"Fine. I am not going to be the only one left out. It's still reckless, if you ask me." Sirius cheered, and Remus stood up.
"Alright, so I think we should-"
"WAIT!" yelled James. Lily rolled her eyes.
"What now?" James ignored her.
"We're only eleven. We need help from people with more experience in the hexing area," he said mischievously. Remus groaned. He knew exactly who James was talking about.
"Who?" asked Alice. Sirius and James exchanged glances.
"Fabian and Gideon Prewett," they chorused simultaneously.
"-and so we need your help," finished James. The red-haired boys shared a look, and nodded.
"Count us in."
