Chapter 13
Tim: Lucy! Lucy! Lucy! Baby are you okay? Lucy, what happened what is going on?
Lucy had dropped the phone as soon as she saw Ashley and Chris standing in front of her. Ashley was pointing a gun at her and Lucy was hoping that Tim would come home, arrest them both – again and put them in jail where they belong. Lucy was going to try and convince Ashley to lower her weapon when Chris started talking. Although Lucy was no longer holding the phone, Tim was still on the line and listened in to the whole conversation as he drove as fast as he could back to Lucy's apartment praying that he would get there before Ashley killed Lucy.
Chris: Babe, put that thing down.
Ashley: Then how am I going to kill her if I don't use my gun?
Chris: You promised me you wouldn't kill her.
Ashley: You are impossible you know. Get over her.
Chris: I'm trying Ashley. But it's not that easy. I was really in love with her. I might want her to suffer but I don't want to see her dead.
Lucy: How did you get here.
Ashley: Shut up! No one gave you permission to talk.
Lucy: This is my house that you broke into. I am allowed to talk in my own home.
Ashley: We didn't break in.
Lucy: Then explain how you got into my house without permission but yet you didn't break in?
Ashley: We used Chris's key.
Lucy: Why do you still have my key?
Chris: You never asked for it back.
Lucy: I never imagined you would ever do anything like this.
Chris: That's because you never cared about me at all.
Lucy: Chris, I'm so sorry. It was never supposed to happen like this.
Chris: Then why did you do it Lucy? Why did you date me if you the only person you ever wanted to be with was Tim.
Lucy: Because he never wanted to be with me.
Ashley: That is so not true. Why would you ever think that?
Lucy: Look, I'm sorry that you both got hurt and I'm sorry I dated you when I was in love with Tim but please, just stop hurting us. How did you two get here anyway? You are both supposed to be in prison right now.
Chris: Escaping isn't very hard once you make friends with the right people.
Lucy: And who exactly would that be?
Chris: We found many people in prison that both you and Tim had put away and would love to see you both dead. We also found the prison guard you were tasked to put away before your case was given to someone else and he was more than glad to assist with all of this.
Lucy: I thought that case was closed. That guard was supposed to be locked up in jail for letting prisoners escape while on his watch.
Chris: Yeah, he was in jail only for a little bit, then he got out on good behavior and they let him have his job back.
Lucy: As soon as Tim gets home, he will arrest you and you will both be going right back there. I hope coming here was worth it.
Ashley: Killing you will make this all worth it.
Ashley raises her gun once again just as Tim comes rushing in through the door.
Tim: That will never happen.
Tim quickly grabs the gun from Ashley, pinning her to the floor with the gun pointed at her head.
Tim: And once again you are under arrest. Lucy, would you like the honor this time of cuffing Ashley?
Lucy: I would love that, just let me finish with Chris here first.
As soon as Lucy had finished putting the cuffs on the both Ashley and Chris, Angela, Nyla and the rest of the team showed up to make sure that Lucy was okay.
Angela: Chen, are you okay?
Lucy: I'm good Angela, thanks for asking.
Angela: Tim called me all frantic that Ashley was in your home pointing a gun at you. He was really worried.
Lucy: I know. I'm sorry to have scared you all again.
Angela: Tim, what are we going to do now with Ashley and Chris?
Tim: I would like to send them back to jail.
Angela: I know that, I'm asking who is taking them because I am assuming you would like to stay here with Lucy, let her get checked out and make sure she's really okay.?
Tim: Exactly, I really want to take them myself and make sure they stay there for a really long time. I can't keep living my life in fear of the next time they will get out and kill Lucy. But like you said Lucy needs me to be here with her right now so I'm going to have to trust someone else to transport Ashley and Chris back to jail.
Angela: Don't worry, the guard that helped them has been arrested again. Turns out this is not the first time that he helped people escape prison.
Lucy: I know, that was the case I was looking into that brought me back to Mid-Wilshire in the first place.
Angela: Turns out, even as classified as the case was kept the guard somehow found out that it was Lucy who built the case against him and was then eager to help Ashley and Chris so he could get his own revenge on Lucy for ruining his life.
Tim: I'm glad that's been taken care of.
Angela: Ashely and Chris will also be going to Maximum security in two separate prisons this time and they will both not be allowed to contact each other. Hopefully this whole story is over now and you two can go on to living your lives.
Lucy: Thanks Angela. I'm looking forward to that.
Everyone else who had come to check on Lucy started exiting the apartment until Angela was the only one left there. Angela was about to follow her colleagues out when she noticed the romantically set table and turns towards Tim.
Angela: Oh my God! Oh my God!
Tim: What? What's wrong?
Angela: You were going to propose tonight
Tim: What?! What are you talking about? Why would you even say that?
Lucy: I'm guessing you noticed the table
Tim: Table, what table?
Angela: Wait Tim, you didn't set that up?
Tim: Nope, I wasn't home when all of this happened. I was still at the station remember. Lucy sent this all up not me.
Angela: Whoops. Sorry. Hope I didn't ruin your plan
Tim: To propose? Nope, that plan is still intact. But next time don't jump to conclusions until after I have asked Lucy to marry me.
Lucy: I am standing right here, you know.
Tim and Angela: We know.
Lucy: You're really planning on proposing?
Tim: Of course, I am. Why do you sound so surprised?
Lucy: We just never spoke about it. We don't even live together yet. I guess I just assumed you never thought about it.
Angela: I'm going to go and give you time to talk. Clearly you need to. Tim I will personally make sure Ashley and Chris end up exactly where they need to be.
Tim: Thank you Angela. I really appreciate that.
Angela: Good luck! Call me as soon as she says yes.
Tim: Get out!
Angela left, closing the door behind her leaving Tim and Lucy alone in Lucy's apartment.
Lucy: You really want to marry me?
Tim: You don't? Want to marry me, I mean.
Lucy: Of course, I do. It's something I dreamed about before you and I ever started dating. I just never thought it would happen. And you never mentioned anything about it before
Tim: Lucy. After everything that happened between us this past year, I just wanted to wait until we were in a perfect place before asking you.
Lucy: Now seems like pretty perfect to me.
Tim: Seriously? You seriously want me to propose to you right now?
Lucy: You don't want to?
Tim: It's not that I don't want to Lucy. I do, believe me I do.
Lucy: The answer is yes Tim, the answer will always be yes Tim.
Tim: I know Lucy, I never had any doubts. That's why I never brought it up, I know that this is something we both want and Lucy, it will happen I promise. But Lucy, after everything we went through these past years, you deserve only the best and I wanted to give that to you. So I was planning on surprising you with most perfect proposal special for you.
Lucy: It doesn't have to be a surprise for it to be special.
Tim: I know that, but I want to do this right Lucy, when I ask, I want it to be perfect and I want it to be amazing and special just for you. You deserve only the best Lucy and I want to give you that perfect moment you deserve that. I don't want you to feel like you missed out on anything when it comes to the proposal and engagement and wedding.
Lucy: Asking me now, won't make it any less perfect.
Tim: No, but it will ruin all my perfect plans.
Lucy: You have it planned out already?
Tim: I sure do.
Lucy: What is the plan?
Tim: Nope Lucy, no way. I am not going to give you any hints. I want you to be surprised and excited and happy.
Lucy: Being with you every day makes me excited and happy. But you know what would make me happier?
Tim: What?
Lucy: Being your wife.
Tim: No Lucy, no! Stop. You do not get to propose to me, that is not how this works.
Lucy: Why not? If you want to take your time, I get it, but I don't
Tim: Lucy, please. Can you just let me do this one little tiny thing for you?
Lucy: You already do so much for me.
Tim: No, I do not.
Lucy: I don't want to argue about it. But I don't want to wait forever until I get my ring.
Tim: It won't be forever, just not today. Is that okay?
Lucy: As long as you and I are together as a couple, I'm okay. Yes, I would love to call you my husband or fiancé but boyfriend will work for now.
Tim: Thank you.
Tim stayed over that night at Lucy's house and they both went to bed extremely happy. Lucy woke up the next morning and noticed that Tim had already gotten up. Lucy got dressed and walked out into the main room and saw that Tim had set the table with plates and all of her favorite breakfast foods. Lucy got excited, was Tim going to propose right here before work? Lucy sat down as Tim came out of the bathroom.
Tim: Oh, perfect your up. I was really hoping to catch you before I left to work but you looked so cute while you were sleeping and after last night, I really didn't want to wake you.
Lucy: You're going in to work today?
Tim: Yeah. Grey gave you the day off, but Lieutenant Pine said she has too many people out today she couldn't give me off. I'm sorry.
Lucy: No, it's okay.
Tim: I would really love to sit and eat with you but I have to go now or I will be late.
Lucy: Be safe out there today babe.
Tim: Always
Lucy: I need you to come home to me tonight alive and well.
Tim: I will. Now eat your food before it gets cold.
Lucy: Thanks for the breakfast. It looks great.
Tim: Your welcome.
Tim walked over and quickly kissed Lucy before he left the apartment. Lucy was confused as to why the room looked so nice and romantic if he wasn't planning on proposing. Tim didn't bring it up after that day and neither did Lucy. But every little thing had her questioning his motive.
A week later Lucy was in the roll call when Tim gave the morning speech since Grey was out for the shift and Tim was acting watch commander that day.
Tim: Before we all go out on patrol, I would like Officer Chen to come up here for a minute I have a question to ask you.
Angela: Really Tim? Here?
Tim: Officer Chen, we are all waiting.
Lucy: Yes sir
Lucy walked up and when she was standing next to him, he looked at her, and smiled and took a deep breath.
Tim: I would like to ask you if you would do me the honor of
Lucy: Yes Tim, I would love to
Tim: You never even let me finish the question
Lucy: You don't have to Tim. My answer is yes, my answer will always be yes.
Tim: I want to know if you will ride with me today.
Angela: Uh oh
Lucy: What?!
Tim: I know when we started dating, we agreed to never ride together again because I can't be objective when it comes to you, but with Grey out I'm overworked and I would like for you to be my Sargent's aid again just until grey gets back.
Lucy: I don't work patrol anymore. I'm chief of detectives. How exactly do you expect this to work?
Tim: Don't worry about all that I already cleared it with the Captain. It will really make my job easier if you can ride with me today, but if not, I understand.
Lucy: Tim, do you not remember what happened the last time we rode together?
Tim: I do, but I'm hoping this time will be different.
Lucy: Okay, I'll do it for today. But don't ask me this again.
Tim: Wouldn't dream of it.
Their shift went relatively well. Lucy enjoyed spending the day with Tim again, even if it was while they were on the job. Lucy was still so annoyed about the way he had asked her to do this but decided to drop it and let this play out the way Tim had planned.
When Lucy got back to her desk at the end of the day, she saw that there was a small gift-wrapped box sitting on her desk. It was too big to be a ring and Tim wasn't there though she knew that he was the only person to ever leave her presents like this. Lucy sat down and opened it up to see 2 tickets for Hawaii. When she turned it over, she saw a note from Tim.
Will you join me in Hawaii to celebrate you know what?
Lucy was so confused, Tim wanted her to go with him to Hawaii to celebrate their engagement when he hadn't even asked her to marry him yet? She looked around but he was nowhere to be found. She put away the tickets, gathered her stuff and was about to walk to her car when she got a text from Tim.
Tim: You want to join me tonight for dinner?
Lucy: Sure
Tim: Perfect. I'll pick you up from your apartment in an hour.
Lucy: Great see you then.
Lucy was smiling to herself all happy when she left the station. She walked to her car and was about to get in when she saw Tim sitting on the same bench where he had first asked her out. She really had wanted to go home to change before their date so she just opened the door, got in and drove off.
Tim who was waiting nervously for Lucy to come out saw her walk right past him and drive off realized his perfectly planned proposal to ask her in this place that meant so much for them had just gone right out the window if he still wanted to ask her today. Tim was about to text her that dinner was canceled when he saw Angela walk over to him.
Angela: You okay Bradford? You look upset
Tim: I was just about to propose when Lucy got in her car and drove off.
Angela: What did you do wrong this time?
Tim: Nothing, Angela. I swear I did nothing wrong.
Angela: So why did she drive away?
Tim: I don't know.
Angela: What was your plan?
Tim: I organized a trip to Hawaii and put the tickets on her desk.
Angela: Hawaii? Why there?
Tim: It means something to us, to her that I knew she would understand.
Angela: Okay and then what?
Tim: I texted her if we could go out on a date tonight but I wanted to propose to her here first and then go out locally to celebrate with everyone I was going to text you all to join once she said yes, but then she saw me, walked right past me, got in her car and drove off.
Angela: That sounds so perfect, I just don't get why she drove off.
Tim: Me neither. Am I doing the wrong thing asking her to marry me?
Angela: Of course, not Tim. Look just go pick her up for your date and then either ask her before you leave or at the restaurant, but don't give up.
Tim: I just worked so hard to make it perfect. I really wanted to ask her here, where she first told me how important our relationship meant to her.
Angela: It will still be perfect Tim. Just go, ask her already.
Tim: Okay, okay.
Angela gave Tim a hug before he left. He was nervous as he drove to Lucy's apartment, this was not how he expected tonight to go, but he was still determined to at least have the night end according to his plans. He went up to the 6th floor and took a deep breath before knocking on the door. Tamara opened the door and then she smiled at him knowingly.
Tamara: Hey Lucy, your boyfriend's here to propose.
Tim: How did you?
Tamara: I'm smart like that Tim, I told you I'd make a great detective.
Tim: You really will.
Lucy came out of her room and was all embarrassed.
Lucy: Tamara!
Tamara: What? It's not like you didn't suspect it when you got the tickets to Hawaii.
Lucy: Okay, get out.
Tamara: Tim, don't screw it up.
Tim: I wouldn't dream of it.
Lucy: Good
Tim: Good
Lucy: So, are we going to dinner or what?
Tim: We are but your outfit is missing a little something
Lucy: What?
Tim takes out the ring box and gets down on one knee. No this wasn't how he planned on doing it but it was still pretty perfect. He just really hoped she was still planning on saying yes.
Tim: Lucy Chen, will you marry me
Lucy: Yes! Yes!
Tim: I was really hoping you would say that.
Lucy: Like I've said before my answer will always be yes.
Tim stood up and slid the ring onto Lucy's finger. He then bent down and kissed her deeply. Tamara who had watched and videoed the whole thing came out to congratulate them.
Tim: Do you want to skip dinner?
Lucy: No, I'm starving and you promised me dinner. Plus, you will need that fuel for later when we celebrate this ring you just gave me.
Tim: Okay, let me just text everyone telling them you said yes and to meet us at the restaurant.
Lucy: Can we tell them later? I really want tonight to be just about us.
Tim: Whatever you want Lucy.
Lucy: Thank you.
Their trip to Hawaii was perfect. It was simple and romantic and everything that Lucy had ever dreamed of. She was so happy all of the time.
Tim let her make most of the wedding decisions and in the end when it was becoming to much and too stressful, she decided she wanted to elope and eventually tell their friends they were already married. Tim who just wanted Lucy to always be happy agreed to her plan but still secretly wanted to plan her the perfect wedding and reception but eventually they got into a routine and life took over and the wedding never happened.
Life was pretty near perfect for them both and after all they had gone through to get to this amazing place Tim was just so happy that they were able to be so happy together.
6 months after they got married Tim came home one day to find Lucy sitting on the couch with takeout containers in front of her.
Tim: Hey Lucy, how was your day?
Lucy: good, and yours?
Tim: Better now that I'm home with you and I get to wear my ring. It's hard not being able to wear it at work all day.
Lucy: That is going to have to change now.
Tim: What? Why? I thought we agreed not to tell them until we had the wedding and ceremony that they could come too.
Lucy: I know, but life has a way of changing plans for you
Tim: What's changed?
Lucy: One of my dreams is about to become true.
Tim: You are already married to me, so which dream are you talking about?
Lucy: The dream of being the first and only woman to make you into a father.
Tim: Wait, is this for real? Are you really? Are we?
Lucy: Pregnant? Yes Tim, I'm pregnant. We are going to have a baby. Part you and part me, just like I had dreamed of.
Tim scooped Lucy up, twirled her around and kissed her so deeply.
Tim: I love you Lucy
Lucy: I love you too Tim Bradford.
