"Ugh, I'm so tired," said Cherry, head slumping against her arm, elbow propped up against the table.
"Tell me about it," said Katie, eyelids drooping softly. "We stayed up way too late yesterday. That probably wasn't a smart idea." Out of the ten, only Michelle looked awake and energetic.
"There's so much food here!" she said happily. "Mmm..." Juee groaned.
"Michelle, how are you not exhausted?" Michelle shrugged.
"No clue. Pancakes?" Juee nodded sleepily, and succeeded in spilling syrup all over herself. Jazz snorted.
"Smooth." Juee glared at her.
"Not in the mood. Just use your magic stick thing to clean it up, please."
"Um, magic stick thing?"
"Stick, wand. They both mean the same thing." Lily rolled her eyes and yawned.
"Sorry, I don't remember the spell." Her friends stared at her.
"What's this? Lily Evans doesn't remember something academic? Le fromage!" Cherry said dramatically. Saniya stared at her.
"Cherry, you know you just said 'the cheese', in French, right?" Cherry waved her off.
"Whatever! But this! This is a once in a lifetime event!" Lily yawned widely again.
"It starts with an 's'. Like, Scorila...Scorsand...Scorlify...Scourgify! Yeah, that's it!"
"Well then, what are you waiting for?" said Juee, gesturing towards her syrup covered pants. Lily chuckled.
"Scourgify," she said tiredly, pointing her wand at Juee's lap. All the brown syrup immediately.
"Thanks Lily," said Juee, satisfied. Saniya laughed.
"Magic is so cool," she said. Maddie and Maya nodded in agreement.
"Jazz, you look like you just died, were in a coffin for a hundred years, and then came back to life," said Sirius, as he plopped down next to her. He wrinkled his nose. "And you smell."
"Thanks. Great friend you are," she replied sarcastically.
"Just being honest," he said grinning at her cheekily.
"Hey Jazz," said Peter. "I got you a chocolate frog." He handed the candy to her.
"Thanks Peter," she said. "See, Sirius? That is what a friend is."
"You do look really weird, though." Jazz pursed her lips.
"I stand corrected." She looked at the two boys behind her. "Remus? James? You guys want to tell me I look stupid too?" Remus grinned sheepishly.
"Well, actually, I was going to tell you to look at your reflection." Jazz's mouth dropped open.
"Remus John Lupin, I didn't know you had it in you!" she said, punching him lightly on the shoulder.
"That's cause he doesn't," said James, handing Jazz a spoon. She let out a little scream as she caught sight of her reflection, and then glared at her roommates.
"Did you not think to tell me that I look like a reptile?!" said Jazz angrily, examining her frizzy bed head. Alice shrugged.
"Oops. Guess it just slipped our minds," she said.
"Thanks. Once again, great friends I have," she said, aggravated. Katie laughed.
"You look stupider than Chase."
"Who's Chase?"
"No one," all six girls replied. Lily shrugged.
"Um, okay then."
"So, when do you guys think you are leaving?" said James, helping himself to chocolate chip pancakes.
"Uh, didn't we already tell you that?" asked Katie. James shrugged.
"About a week, I think," answered Michelle.
"I hope," added Maddie under her breath. She and Saniya shared a look.
"Um, what is that?" asked Maya.
"What is what?"
"That," she replied, pointing towards a white envelope perched delicately on Juee's glass of orange juice. Jazz looked at Cherry, and they both instantly reached for the letter, knocking over the glass of orange juice. Juee looked at her wet clothing. She turned to Lily, and sighed.
"Scourgify," said Lily, a laugh escaping her mouth. Cherry flipped over the envelope, as Jazz glared at her.
"To the Gryffindor first year ladies," she read. "Sounds like Dumbledore."
"Just open it," said Saniya impatiently.
"Alright, alright," said Cherry, slowly ripping of the top, pulling out a letter, printed on a dusty piece of parchment.
"Whoa," said Jazz. "Can't believe old Bubbles wrote that much," she continued, eyeing all the words written on the letter.
"Read it!" urged Maddie rudely.
"Your muggle friends are not that great," whispered Alice to Lily. Lily narrowed her eyes.
"They're not so bad," she said quietly. Alice shrugged.
"Whatever Lily." Suddenly Jazz turned around to face the boys.
"You guys can't fool me, you're so planning something," said Jazz accusingly. Peter groaned.
"Here we go again," said Remus.
"Um, what?" said Alice, looking confused.
"I know you are!"
"How? We really did not do anything," said Peter.
"Shut up Jazz," said Sirius. "We haven't done anything this time."
"What? Why? Jazz?" asked Cherry, a puzzled expression on her face. Jazz turned back to the girls.
"They are the Marauders," she said. Cherry gasped, and Alice looked at her.
"It's not that big of a deal," she said. Cherry shrugged.
"I don't know, it felt like it needed something dramatic." Alice rolled her eyes.
"Whatever." Remus grinned.
"Jazz, you are more of a prankster that I'll ever be." Jazz glared at her best friend.
"Jazz! You're in on this?!" screeched Lily.
"Thanks a lot," she grumbled to Remus, who laughed. James ruffled his hair, and pushed his glasses up the bridge of his nose.
"Ah, we're just going to go now, before Jazz decides to like murder us with her pillow, or something."
"Excellent, Jasmine, absolutely wonderful," said Professor Kemps. "An Outstanding if I ever saw one!" Jazz beamed at the praise.
"E," said James.
"A," said Peter, looking proud.
"O's all the way," said Sirius, high-fiving Jazz. Remus blinked in surprise as he received his essay on vampires.
"What did you get?" said Jazz, snatching the parchment out of his hands. Remus stared at the ground, ashamed. Jazz looked at the paper silently, and passed it to Sirius, who moaned loudly.
"A 'P'?" he said.
"Problem, Mr. Black?" asked the Professor. Sirius shook his head.
"The one second I start to like Kemps," whispered James furiously, "he has to go and be an idiot again!" Sirius nodded in agreement.
"What has he got against Remus?" he questioned. Remus shrugged uncomfortably.
"No clue," he said, lying straight through his teeth. Jazz laughed, angrily but quietly.
"That is just lame. I pretty much copied all my reasons from you, Remus, and yet he's got the nerve to fail you, and give me and O. Idiot."
"And don't you guys think it's weird that he's trying to teach us the third year curriculum, like dark creatures?" continued James. Remus shifted his feet, wanting to change the subject.
"Hey Jazz, where are Lily's friends?" he asked. Jazz's eyebrows creased.
"Er... I don't really know. Let me ask her," she replied. She scribbled something down on a piece of parchment, that she's been doodling on. Jazz waited until Kemps was facing the board, and tossed the crumpled paper at Lily's head, where she was was sitting in the front with Cherry and Alice. Peter winced as the Professor turned around just in time to catch the ball of paper hitting Lily's desk. He raised his eyebrows as he slowly walked over to Lily, who was glaring fiercely at Jazz.
"Something that you would like to share, girls?" he said calmly.
"Uh-" stammered Lily, as the Professor picked up the sheet, eyes scanning over the words.
"Hey Lil," he began. "Where are the Muggle/Squib girls?" Kemps furrowed his brow.
"Explain," he demanded, smacking the paper down on the red-haired girl's desk. Lily remained quiet.
"Explain," he ordered, voice louder than before.
"I can't," squeaked Lily. Kemps laughed.
"Then you'll just have to join me in detention for the rest of the week. You too, Ms. Stone. I'm very disappointed in you both." Jazz rolled her eyes.
"Whatever." Kemps turned to her, eyes suddenly cold.
"Excuse me, Ms. Stone?"
"Maybe you should just let it go," Remus advised her quietly. Jazz ignored him.
"Sorry," said Jazz sweetly. "Whatever, sir," she finished, emphasizing on 'sir.'
"Two weeks, Ms. Stone."
"No, Ms. Stone!" said the Professor in frustration as Jazz's match exploded into a cloud of feathers and glitter. "You need to simply imagine the match transforming into the needle! Focus! Like Mr. Potter here," she said, watching as James expertly transfigured his match into a sleek, silver, sowing needle.
"I just can't get the hang of it!" she wailed, loudly and dramatically. Remus and Peter laughed at her antics, though Peter wasn't doing much better himself.
"Well, you better get the hang of it soon, Ms. Stone, because we've done this activity seven times, and the holidays are already approaching us." Jazz groaned loudly, and Professor McGonagall gave her a sharp look, and snapped her fingers. "Get going! Only ten more minutes left of class!"
"Thank Merlin," said Jazz, as McGonagall turned away. "Old Cat Lady." Remus stifled a laugh.
"Shut up Jazz, she might hear you," he said. She rolled her eyes.
"Whatever Remus. Stop being such a goody-goody."
"Hmm," said James. "Old Cat Lady? I kind of like that."
"Nah," said Sirius, grinning widely. "We should call her Pretty Kitty." The Marauders burst out laughing, but quieted immediately at the Professor's dark stare.
"Oh Merlin." Rrrringg. "Saved by the bell," she finished, jumping out of her seat, and slinging her bag over her shoulder.
"How can you be saved by the bell?" asked Peter curiously. Remus shrugged.
"Who knows."
"Where'd Jazz go?" Sirius shrugged.
"No clue." Remus snorted.
"When have you ever not been clueless?" Sirius grumbled.
"Wanker."
"Sorry," Remus apologized. Sirius stared at him.
"I was kidding, you dork!"
"Oh." Remus blushed. "Sorry."
"Stop apologizing!"
"Sorry- I mean-"
"Remus!"
"Sorry! Oops."
"AARGH!"
"LILY!" Lily turned around.
"Yeah... what?"
"Aren't we and your muggle friends supposed to meet Bubbles? You know, that letter?"
"Wrong grammar, but yes, we are."
"I don't want to go," said Jazz grumpily. Lily sighed, and sat down on the bed.
"Honestly, me neither. I feel like we've been to Dumbledore's office way too many times, like we're criminals."
"Too many times indeed."
"Maybe we should just stay here, and not go."
"Yeah, we should protest!"
The girls looked at each other.
"Ready to go?"
"Yeah."
"So, Professor, to what do we owe this pleasure?" said Cherry in a sarcastic tone. Lily kicked her leg, while Jazz and Alice both stifled laughs. Dumbledore chuckled.
"Yes, yes, I truly am sorry for bringing you kids in here again, but I have news to share, both good and bad." The kids immediately sat up.
"Um, good news first," said Maya timidly. Dumbledore sighed.
"Well, the six of you will have to leave the vicinity of Hogwarts, as of right now." The muggles shared excited looks.
"Bad news?" said Jazz slowly.
"The bad news is that the people looking to slaughter you and your families have not been caught or stopped, and it does not look as if that will happen anytime soon," he said.
"So why the heck are you letting us go out there?" demanded Katie.
"You will need to go into hiding," he replied calmly. "I have already spoken with your parents, and they agree that this is the best option to keep you safe, and out of harm's way." Michelle shrugged.
"That doesn't seem too bad." He looked at her intensely.
"Be warned," he said. "While you are in hiding, you cannot and will not keep in contact with the rest of the world, not even Ms. Evans. I will be the only one that will have the power to speak with you, along with your families."
"Why you?" asked Saniya. The old professor was silent for a moment. Then, he replied,
"Because I will perform the duty of being your Secret-Keeper," he said. "You might be attacked, and will have to stay prepared for events that may take place in the future, and-"
"Wait, hold up," said Maddie. "What's a Secret-Keeper?" Professor Dumbledore shook his head.
"I'm afraid that I cannot say at the moment," he said.
'Total dejá-vù.' though Alice.
"When do we leave?" asked Juee quietly.
"Soon," said the Professor. "I shall inform you when time comes. For now, you may return to your dorm, and enjoy your last few hours at Hogwarts." The girls nodded respectfully, and left.
"-and so we have to leave in a few hours," finished Lily, explaining the situation to the Marauders. Sirius grinned.
"Well now, this calls for a BRH," he said, winking at James. Jazz groaned.
"Not another one! We just had one! Not that I don't love them, but we get so many points taken off. Last time we got 70 points taken off Gryffindor, putting us for last place."
"Uh," said Lily, a confused look on her face. "What's a BRH?"
"A 'break rules hour'," replied Remus, with a sigh. Juee and Saniya exchanged glances. Katie shrugged.
"Sounds like fun."
"I'm in."
"Let's do it."
"Shouldn't we invite the twins?"
"No way! First years only."
"Cool with me."
"Whatever."
Maya burst out laughing as the bucket turned over, and splashed a group of unsuspecting third-year Slytherins.
"Brilliant, Maya!" praised James, slapping her hand.
"Thank you, thank you very much!" she said bowing. Maddie sighed happily, and looked at the scene around her. She really was going to miss this abnormal, yet amazing place.
