REMINDER: THIS IS NO LONGER IN FIRST YEAR! This is ALMOST third year now!
Summer before third year
"Guess what?" yelled James. Sirius and Jazz looked at each other and groaned. James had been doing this for the last ten minutes.
"We know! Chicken butt," said Sirius running a hand through his hair exasperatedly.
James gasped. "How'd you know?" Jazz rolled her eyes.
"Mate, I just got here ten minutes ago, it's your house, and it was Sirius who opened the door."
James shrugged. "He got here an hour early." Jazz chuckled.
"What? Why?" Sirius groaned.
"Cause my family sucks. I had to tell them the time two hours earlier because I knew they would make me late."
Jazz nodded slowly. "Yeah, I didn't get any of that."
Sirius grinned. "Honestly, neither did I." Jazz chuckled.
"So, when are Remus and Peter coming?" James checked his watch.
"Remus is coming tomorrow-"
"Why?" James shrugged.
"I don't know, he wouldn't say. And Peter should be here soon." Jazz nodded, and lay down on the the rug they were sitting on.
"Well," Sirius said. "I for one, want to go to my room."
FLASHBACK
"Jamie, I knew you were loaded, but this is just…whoa," said Jazz, speechless.
"Don't call me that," responded James. "And you get your own rooms."
"Seriously?!" squealed Jazz. James winced.
"Yeah, we've got like a million extra ones."
"This place is amazing," Remus said in wonder. James rolled his eyes, but Jazz could tell he enjoyed the attention.
"James, can we look at your room before we get ours?" squeaked Peter. James shrugged, and nodded yes. Sirius set his bag down.
"Now this is what I call a freaking palace." Jazz nodded in agreement, as they walked down the spacious hallways. The walls of the halls were covered in portraits and paintings. Remus admired the works of art.
As they entered the room, the kids heard a noise in the closet. They froze. Except for James, who chuckled and opened the door, revealing… a house elf.
"Lisa, what are you doing in there?"
"Master James!"
"Lisa, how many times have I told you not to call me 'Master?'"
"Lisa is sorry, Master James, Lisa was cleaning Master James's closer as Madam Rea was getting very upset about Master James's sloppiness." James laughed.
"Thanks Lisa."
"No problem at all, Master James, absolutely no problem." The elf turned around to look at the kids; still frozen.
"Oh. Lisa, these are my friends, Jazz, Sirius, Remus, and Peter." The elf beamed and waved merrily at them.
"Welcome, Miss Jazz, and Master's Sirius, Remus, and Peter!" Sirius grinned.
"I like her." Lisa beamed at him.
"Thank you, Master Sirius! Lisa likes you too!"
Jazz looked around the room, and laughed. This was so obviously James's doing. The room was a bright scarlet, and it had a gold border all throughout the room. There was a large poster of a Gryffindor lion, pouncing on an invisible prey. Quidditch posters plastered the walls. His bedside table had a snitch designed pattered into the wood.
"This…is so you," said Remus, voicing her thoughts. He chuckled. James waved his hand.
"Yeah, yeah, whatever. Let's just go." A thought crossed Jazz's mind.
"Um, James, we get our 'own' rooms?" He nodded. "How do we decorate them?" Lisa waved,
"Lisa is going to be happy to help, Miss Jazz." Jazz nodded slowly. This was odd.
"On to the rooms," said Sirius, grinning.
Sirius's room was a bright gold. Gryffindor posters covered the walls. A red rug covered most of the floor. A figurine of a lion held out his bedside table. He grinned, surveying the room. Gryffindor flags were placed in each corner of the room, while the door handles to the bathroom, closet, and room were tied with red and gold scarves. His eyes twinkled, and Lisa laughed cheerfully at his delight.
Remus's room was a mix of gray and mint green. The only sign that he was a Gryffindor, was on the door, which was plastered in patters of Gryffindor, symbols, flags, and posters. Beanbags and armchairs lined the floor, perfect for reading and/or doing homework. It was cozy, just the way he wanted it. He had Lisa place different colored throw pillows all over the beanbags and chairs. Forest green bookshelves lined the walls/
Peter's room was a bright sky blue, with clouds and the sun painted on the walls. A white rug was placed in the middle of his floor. Gryffindor lions played in the grass on the walls. He had a shelf for his books, with small trinkets residing on top of the books.
Jazz's room was teal. It looked bright, reflecting the sunlight from the bay window. She has a large, navy blue bean bag chair resting on top of a white rug. She had bookshelves in a corner, and posters of 'Percy Jackson, Tobias Eaton, Annabeth Chase, Augustus Waters, and Thalia Grace.' She said they were fictional characters from her favorite books, but Remus had never heard of them before. Her scarves, headbands, and hair-bows were hung or clipped onto a large, lavender board, covered in hooks. James had rolled his eyes at this, but Jazz had insisted that it was necessary. She beamed at Lisa when it was finished.
"I love it!" she squealed.
"You better," grumbled James. "We just spent a long time on that."
END FLASHBACK
"Are you sure?" James groaned.
"Yes, Jazz, I'm sure! Remus said in in his letter that he was not coming until tomorrow! Why do you care so much anyway?" Jazz blushed, and James and Sirius exchanged knowing glances.
"He's my friend!" she said.
"He's our friend too, Jazz."
"He's my best friend, though!"
"He's out best friend too, but we're not freaking out!"
"I'm not freaking out!"
"Yes, you are," both boys chorused.
Jazz crossed her arms grumpily. "Well, you can't blame me for being worried. It was full moon three days ago, remember?" The boys were silent.
"Damn, Jazz, how'd you know? I can never keep track." Jazz shrugged.
"Cherry sent me an extra copy of here astronomy calendar. I have all the dates." James snorted and Sirius coughed.
"Stalker," he said. (coughed)
"What?" said Peter, walking into the room.
"Hey, Peter!" said Jazz, affectionately throwing a pillow at him.
"Hi," he replied, throwing the pillow back at Jazz. "Where's Remus?"
"Home." Peter looked confused. "It was full moon a few days ago," explained James. Peter nodded.
"What are we going to do to help him? There has to be something we can do," said Sirius, a determined look settling on his face.
"There isn't," said Jazz dejectedly. "Cherry and I spent the last few days researching, and there's no known cure, or even medicine, that will help werewolves."
"So what if there's no cure?" said Sirius. Jazz started to speak, but Sirius cut her off. "We're the Marauders, and one of us just happens to be a werewolf."
"There has to be something we can do. Every full moon, he goes and hurts himself, and there's nothing we can do, and-"
"I have an idea," blurted Peter. Everyone turned to look at him.
"What is it?" He blushed.
"Never mind, it's probably stupid anyway." James rolled his eyes.
"So, just say it. Maybe it isn't."
"Werewolves are dangerous to humans." They nodded. "Are they dangerous to animals?"
"Of course," replied James. "Naturally, they are hunters."
"Actually, they aren't," contradicted Jazz. James looked at her.
"What do you mean?"
"Well, I told you that me and Cherry spent hours researching. And we found that werewolves actually aren't dangerous to animals. I mean, they could hurt them, but they can't turn them into werewolves." James soaked in this information.
"Are you sure?"
"Absolutely positive," she replied. Peter's eyes lit up.
"This might actually work!" he said excitedly. "But it will take a LOT of hard work!"
"Well, if it helps, I'm all for it."
"We could… becomeanimalanimagithingssoitwouldhelphim."
"Speak up, Pete." He sighed.
"We could become animal Animagi. It would prevent Remus from hurting himself… but it's also illegal and crazy."
"My two favorite words," said Sirius, grinning like a madman.
"It's really dangerous though," said Jazz after a moment. James rolled his eyes.
"It's for Remus-"
"I know, and I think that we should do it for him," she said quickly. "But what if something goes wrong? I've heard of people getting permanently stuck in their forms, or even half way in between."
"So? James is good at Transfiguration, I'm good at Potions, Jazz, you're good at Charms, and Peter's good at sneaking around. WIth all that , there's no way we can fail."
"I can think of a few ways," muttered Jazz. Her friends ignored her, as to keep a hold on their newfound optimism.
"My cousin wanted to be an Animagus," said James, warming up to the idea. "We have a ton of her old books in the library."
"We shouldn't tell Remus for now," decided Jazz. Sirius rolled his eyes.
"He has to know at some point."
"For now," emphasized Jazz. James nodded slowly.
"Yeah, wouldn't it be cool if we surprised him?" Peter nodded enthusiastically. Sirius didn't reply, but he had a twinkle in his grey eyes.
"Sounds good to me."
"Well… when should we start working on it?" The doorbell rang.
"Later, cause I'm assuming that's Remus." Jazz tilted her head.
"I thought he wasn't coming until tomorrow?" James shrugged and ran out of the room; Peter following. Sirius and Jazz sat in silence for minutes. Jazz enjoyed the sun streaming in from the window. It truly was a beautiful day. The sun was bright, and the sky was a clear blue, with a few white puffs scattered around. The weather was warm, and the summer breeze was slight. Mrs. Potter was a sucker for beautiful gardens, and the ground outside was covered with beautiful flowers, freshly mown grass, and shiny stones.
Jazz thought about her friends and sighed. It seemed like they were all growing up, and she wasn't. Not in maturity wise, of course. Sirius still wore Percy JAckson underwear. She laughed at the memory.
But in looks, James, Sirius, Remus, and even Peter towered above her short frame. Sirius and James were the same height. Remus was an inch shorter, and Peter three inches shorter. Jasmine? She was six inches shorter. Even Peter was taller than her! And to top it all of, Jazz was, er, underdeveloped. But the boys, were getting more… muscular. James was the most because of Quidditch. Jazz hated that. She used to be able to call him the scrawny Potter. She couldn't do that anymore. He still was sort of scrawny, he didn't exactly have a six-pack; they were only 12/13 after all. But he wasn't exactly a stick anymore.
And to top off all that awkwardness, the boys were 'all the rage' in Hogwarts. After the declaration in 2nd year that they were the Marauders, girls had simply fawned over James and Sirius. They, of course, loved the attention, though it was quite awkward for Remus, Jazz, and Peter. In fact, the only boy who payed attention to her, other than James, Sirius, Remus, and Peter, was Chase Smith, Cherry's cousin. Not that she was complaining. She quite fancied him after all. Oh, and also Fabian and Gideon Prewett. But they were like older brothers to her. She was pretty sure Cherry fancied one of them though. And-
"Jasmine, Jazzzzz. Jazzy Jasmine!" Jazz sat up, and bumped heads with Sirius.
"Ow!" they said at the same time, rubbing their foreheads.
"Geez, woman," he said. Jazz rolled her eyes.
"Sorry," she said. "What's up?"
He raised an eyebrow. "Remus is here." Sirius stood up, pulling Jazz with him.
"Ow!" she shrieked. "You almost pulled my arm off!" Sirius winced t her loud tone.
"Yeah, well you almost broke my eardrums. I think we're even." Jazz grumbled as Sirius pulled her down the halls of Potter Manor.
Jasmine stopped as she stood in front of Remus, and glared at him. He shifted uncomfortably.
"Um, what?"
"Who are you?"
"…what?"
"You look different," said Jazz, observantly. And it was true. Remus's eyes seemed greener. His hair wasn't as shaggy as it had been the year before. And he was now as tall as James and Sirius.
Remus blushed. "Uhhh…" She poked him hard in the chest. He winced, and she mumbled an apology.
"And where have you been? You haven't been answering any of my letters!"
"Or mine," piped Sirius.
"Mine either, except that one," said James.
"Ditto," agreed Peter. Remus grinned sheepishly, and ran a hand through his hair.
"Yeah, about that…My dad showed me the letters. And then he threw them away. And I got one from you, James, because my dad was at work." James whistled.
"Damn, and I thought my dad was strict."
"RIght, well, you know how my dad is." Jazz shuddered. Remus's dad was not exactly her favorite person. Let's just say, that whenever she was within ten feet of him, she did something that he disapproved of. Remus's mum, however, was the sweetest woman. Ever.
"Yup," she said, popping the 'p'. Remus laughed, and winked at her. Jazz frowned. Her heart skipped a beat. That was odd.
"Hogwarts in a week!" she said, swiftly changing the subject. Remus groaned. Everyone looked at him. He raised his hands up in surrender.
"I kind of didn't get to do my homework."
Silence.
"Who are you and what have you done with Remus Lupin?" asked Jazz.
"My dad didn't let me do it."
"Well, there is something I never thought I'd hear," said Peter.
"Whatever," said Jazz.
"Whatever is a girl word," mumbled Sirius.
"Homework later," Jazz continued, acting as if she hadn't heard Sirius.
"First, we have to catch up."
