Edward was sitting in his shed with Boco, Murdoch and Salty, he smiled as he looked out on to the yard, with the early morning sun.

"It's great to be an engine." he smiled.

The view past the yard led out towards the dock and towards the rising sun as it came over horizon letting the light bounce of the gentle waves. The day was new and everyone was waking up for the long work ahead. As the crews arrived all four where started up, Salty went to the docks with a tune in his engine, BoCo and Murdoch set off to collect their trucks and Edward took in the view as it slowly faded, as the track spun him around. His smile never faded however as he came in to the yard and collected his coaches.

"Looking forward to having a new engine to make runs to the iron works now?" asked BoCo.

"Not really." Edward replied.

"Why not."

"I first met Trevor on a run to the scarp yard on my way to the iron works. And I wile we swap trains now and again, I still like the idea of saving more old and useless engines that might show up one day."

"What about Arry and Bert."

"Oh the new engine is welcome to have them." Edward teased.

BoCo laughed as he carried on shunting his trucks.

"I just hope they fare better then the last engine we had." he feared.

Neville was still making the trip over to Sodor, he had been laid over at Swindon as he needed a new crew to take him the other leg of the journey. But now he was making good time as he came along the line up towards Barrow-in-Furness.

"This might be goo place to work." smiled Neville "Big stations do have a lot of work."

"Where not stopping here." shouted out his crew over the ragging winds.

Neville become shocked and felt a bit nervous.

"Were heading to Sodor, we'll need to drop of the train here first then get a new goods train to the next stop, on the island."

Neville kept glancing back between his crew and the fast approaching station, slowing down he made his approach and pulled in to the platform at the station. Looking around he spotted a few other engines at the other platforms, all with their own trains.

Spotting a waiting engine Neville spoke up "Um excuse me." he asked weakly.

The other engines didn't hear him and left the station.

Seeing another engine come in he tired again "Could you help me?" he asked feebly.

But still he was to quite for the engine to hear him, Neville's face sank and so felt so small in such a large station.

"Hay, hay you." called a voice.

"Who me." asked Neville spotting a Station master. He was calling over from one platform over. "What are you doing here, take that to the yard."

"Oh yes of course." Neville panicked and backed up.

"Stupid engines." cursed the Station master under his breath.

Neville parted the station, backing up he soon spotted the points leading him towards the yard, and so made his way over. He kept looking back hoping he didn't crash in to anything as he kept having to cross over diffrent points to to reached the yard.

Edward was puffing along as he made the trip in to Wellsworth station, as he was coming up he could see Gordon was waiting for him already.

"Hello Gordon, your early." tooted Edward.

"I think you mean, your late." Gordon snorted brushing of Edward's greeting.

Edward seemed confused and looked to the clock on the station building. "No, I'm right on time." he smiled.

"I guess I was in hurry then." defected Gordon.

"Why?"

"Don't you know. The new engine has just arrived, guess I wanted to see them."

"Really, here already?"

"Yes, Bear saw him this morning, she said he looks like a diesel."

"Well I'm sure they're going to a fine addition, where did bear say he saw them."

"He was at Burrow when he came in he was on his way out so he didn't catch much, but they where black." Gordon seemed to have slurred the last word as he said it.

"What's wrong with black?"

"What do you mean."

"Donald and Douglas are black."

"I just mean, they're not a looker."

"You haven't even seen them."

"I don't have to, the last black diesel we had was no good."

"We also had bad diesels in blue and green, what's you point Gordon."

Gordon just kept quite.

"Well, you won't have to deal with them, they're going to working on the Killdane branch, and be working with me."

"As long as they don't come on the main line."

Edward chuckled at Gordon's foolishness and left for the yard.

The burrow yard was a big place, Neville found himself packed in between large buildings with so many of chutes he didn't know where to go. He found an empty siding and backed his train in to it, only to hear a yelling from behind him on one of the other lines. Stopping he soon found a dirty little engine pull up, in dark green paint and glasses.

"What are you doing." he blurted out.

"So sorry, I'm on trial for the North Western." Neville Apologised.

"Oh, I was wondering when you where going to get her, follow me I'll show you where you can take your train."

"Oh, thank you."

The two engines soon backed down though the yard.

"My names Whiff by the way."

"Whiff, what sort of names…" he stopped catching a foul smell. "I smell why now."

"I don't mind the smell, that's why I was transferred here."

"What is the smell."

"A sewage pipe burst, it's a recurring problem , I'm used to bad smells as I liked to work with rubbish."

"Well I guess your one of a kind."

"Kind of like you, with your shape and all."

Neville soon become self concious, but they soon came up in two sidings one with goods train and other empty.

"Is this mine?" he asked.

"Yep, and I hope your trial goes well." smiled Whiff as Neville backed down.

"Thanks." he replied.

"Hope to see you around." said Whiff and he went back to his duties.

Neville looked around and as soon as he was uncoupled backed on to his waiting train.

"Lets get out of here." said his driver. "I think I'm going to be sick."

"To late." said the Fireman as he threw up over the side.

Some of it splashed back at Neville and his driver started them up as they left in hurry.

Leaving the yard Whiff tooted as they passed him by and Neville whistled back.

Departing the yard they moved towards the station, he passed though with and out the other side.

"Onwards to Sodor." he called as he came up towards the bridge.

Salty was working on the docks when Bill and Ben came in trying to hold back their laughter.

"Oh hello you two." smiled Salty as he shunted some trucks under Cranky. "Can I help you?"

"Oh no were just watching."

"Okay me hearties." said Salty a bit concerned.

Trying to get back to his work the singers and giggles form the twins put him off.

"Alight what have you two bilge-rats done this time?" he asked.

"Nothing." called Cranky. "they're trying to wind you up."

"And how would you no that."

"If you where as tall as I was, you'd would have seen them talking, now get a move on." snapped Cranky.

Salty put it behind him and went to shunt the trucks away as Cranky loaded them only to be met with with BoCo coming in and honking his horn.

"Be careful Salty, those plank wagons your using have loose locks, their sides may pop."

Salty looked back to the twins who had wisely left. "Why didn't you tell me?" he asked Cranky.

"I said I saw them talking, I didn't say I heard them."

Salty grunted as he carefully shunted the trucks, and Edward steamed past as BoCo began to unload his trucks on the key.

"Bill and Ben still at it?" asked Edward.

"They never stopped." smiled BoCo.

"You know I had a wired conversation with Gordon."

"Really."

"They said the new engine is a diesel, and that they where black."

"What does paint have to do with anything."

"I know, but what got me was, that fact Bear had told Gordon he saw a diesel engine."

"Why."

"I was told we were getting steam engine."

"You know what gets me."

"What's that?" asked Edward.

"How Bear left Barrow and some how bested Gordon getting past Wellsworth."

"I think rumour's have been going around." sighed Edward.

"Before you know it." said BoCo "Everyone will think the new engine is a black diesel.

"Lets hope the others have more sense then that."

Thomas was sitting next to James and Kanpford as they waited on their respective singles.

"Emily's been saying the new engine is going to be a diesel." said James "I mean, can you believe it." he fumed "Why the Fat Controller would want another one of those."

"As long as their nicer then some of the other ones we've had." Thomas replied.

"What about Mavis, we like Mavis." chimed in Annie and Clarabel.

"Well what ever the engine is I'm just glad I won't be seeing them." snorted James.

"How come?"

"I don't work on the branch lines."

"What if the Fat Controller needs a train taken up there."

"He can send Emily or Bear, even Molly can go."

"Well you are mixed traffic engine, meaning you're the best." teased Thomas.

James pouted as his single turned green and his crew made him leave before he could reply.

"The new engine is going to be an improvement, on having to go there our selves." Shivered Thomas, and he soon left the station soon after.

Neville was making his way though the lush Sodor county side with his goods train trialling behind. The train was thinning out with every station and the next stop was Kellsthorpe road and it closely approaching.

Gordon was sitting at the station with the express with Bear sitting at the station as well as the two argued.

"I didn't tell you about the new engine."

"I heard you say it the other day."

"No, I mistook two of the shunter's, I thought I told you that."

"Well I guess the news of the new engine is what stuck."

After the words left his mouth Gordon froze as he sat looking at Neville as he slowly reached the station.

"Next time you should pay attention to what others our saying."

Neville soon came a full stop at the station and looked around for the yard, he was just out of Bears line of sight.

"Gordon are you evening paying attention?" asked Bear "Look we don't know when the new engine will arrive or what colour they will."

Soon Gordon snapped back "I think we don't have to guess any more, and it seems your were right after all."

"What do you mean?" asked Bear.

"It's black and box shaped." he snorted as he pulled away.

Neville heard it all this, and watched as Gordon left and Bear soon after, leaving him all alone at the station.

Edward was shunting trucks in the yard when Murdoch returned, form the Iron works

"Your back nice to see your still with us." smiled Edward.

"Those two don't bother me." laughed Murdoch "I'm just glad the branch is quite, now the other engines are gone." he paused "Does that seems harsh."

"No not at all." said Edward.

"Wait where's BoCo?"

"He's taking my train, so I can stay and keep an eye on the twins."

"Good thought, lets hope they don't cause as much trouble for the new engine."

"Yes, I was hoping on some news of their arrival."

"We will have to wait and see."
