Episode 5: The Avatar's Wrath
Chapter 1: The Bender Busters
Oh boy, you ordinary civilians thought the Republic was always playing the good guy? Think again! The Confederacy existed for a reason, after all, and in any diverse society full of differing opinions, there is bound to be some form of dividing and problematic prejudice. Even 50,000 years in the future, the idea of a perfect utopia is EXTREMELY unrealistic.
This time around we're gonna be looking at an example of how the United Galactic Republic engages in cruel imperialism solely for the sake of profit, while silencing people who protest against the atrocities.
What gave me the motivation and ideas to write this part of Starhammer 50k? Well, there's been a lot of talk about where the story of Avatar: The Last Airbender will continue, and if a sequel will live up to the standards of the beloved and legendary animated series.
But that's for discussing another time.
Today we will be asking the question, "What happens when the world of Avatar collides with Star Wars, Warhammer, and other sci-fi universes?"
To make a long story short, it isn't going to end well for the Gaang, and something very unfair and unjust will happen to the Four Nations. Keep in mind that Aang and friends are all adults by now in this timeline.
Enough procrastinating, let's get on with the epic tales.
-Aboard The Dragon Reborn, Resurgent-Class Battlecruiser-
-Currently in high orbit above the backwater civilized planet of Kaurava-
The Galactic Republic Navy's (GRN's) 101st Expedition Fleet, commanded by Jedi Grandmaster Mace Windu himself, had entered orbit around an uncharted planet completely devoid of outside influence not long ago. And "devoid of outside influence" emphatically meant that this world had never developed technology necessary for faster-than-light travel, much less the capability to launch artificial satellites.
Yet as Master Windu did his research, while holding a hologram chat with Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi, he discovered that this isolated world, the planet of Kaurava, actually had numerous people in its civilization practicing a unique magic system which allowed for kinetic manipulation of the elements, through martial arts, very similar to the most physical doctrines of harnessing the Force.
This physically demanding and militaristic magic was dubbed simply as "Bending" by the native people of Kaurava, and Benders came in an incredible variety, manipulating the elements of water, earth, fire, air, and possibly others, to form a rigid class of warriors.
Perhaps the most fascinating discovery surrounding the art of Bending was the existence of an individual known as the Avatar, who was continuously reincarnated by an unknown spiritual power, with hundreds of past lives, for the purpose of keeping the world in balance and protecting those who couldn't help themselves.
But the only way to gather more valuable information (and maybe coerce Kaurava into joining the Republic) was to land on the planet and talk to the leaders of its four great nations.
The following hologram chat is between Mace Windu and his temporary advisors, Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi:
"This place will have great potential if it becomes part of the Republic, Skywalker and Obi-Wan. But we must try to do things peacefully instead of immediately resorting to violence."
"I'm not so sure these folks would be willing to join us, Master Windu, even if we show them the benefits. Violence is always an option, or at least that's what many people have told me."
"Careful what you wish for, Anakin. We have already suffered enough from wars beyond count. Obi-Wan, what is your stance on this matter?"
"Perhaps a compromise can be reached. The natives keep their sovereignty, but the Republic establishes diplomatic ties with their government and shares advanced technology to those willing to make use of it."
"That doesn't sound half bad, Kenobi! Though I am taking precautions in case this diplomatic mission gets dangerous."
To begin the expedition, Master Windu and a bunch of mercenary soldiers and Republic Senators boarded a modified LAAT-I (Low Altitude Assault Transport, Infantry) dropship, which was outfitted to operate in planetary orbital space. They then took off and chose to land just outside of Ba Sing Se, the capital of the Earth Kingdom, where the Avatar and his companions were having an important diplomatic meeting of their own...
Walking through the streets, as a citizen of Ba Sing Se, you'd expect these outsiders from the great beyond to be attracting a lot of eyeballing and scrutiny, since they were dressed in attire that nobody in the Avatar world had ever seen before, and some of them were clearly not even human.
But little did you know, these people were the heralds of a colonial invasion from the stars that would bring the world to its knees... well, let's see what the Gaang has to say about it. It's not their first time tangling with imperialist forces.
Next chapter will introduce Mace Windu's entourage, who are about to cross paths with Team Avatar!
